Mercedes cloning will ‘definitely’ help Aston Martin in 2022 – PlanetF1

Posted: at 4:44 am

Aston Martins decision to effectively clone the Mercedes car in 2020 will definitely help the team in 2022, says Andrew Green.

Back when they were known as Racing Point, the British team opted to base the design of their 2020 challenger on the title-winner Mercedes car from the previous season.

It proved to be a somewhat successful strategy for them with their car more often than not being the third fastest on the grid and their drivers claiming one win and three podiums between them.

Green, the teams technical officer, thinks its also one that opened their eyes and thus will have definitely helped them build and develop their car for the 2022 campaign.

It definitely opened our eyes to new ways of working new concepts, new ideas, he told The Race.

And it has enabled that thinking then to follow through to some degree on the 21 car but the 2022 car definitely.

Greens team were heavily criticised for what became widely known as their pink Mercedes with a number of teams viewing the copying as a form of cheating and protesting the design.

He remains adamant they did nothing wrong though and that trying to replicate another design was far from the easy option for them, requiring a huge amount of work and skill.

Anger from rivals stemmed from the successful way in which they carried out such work, he says.

What we did was look at the car and went about working out why that car was significantly quicker than everybody else, he added.

We did our own learning. Theres no shortcut to doing it. Its not a copy, its developing a solution where youve got a rough idea of what you think the answer is, but youve still got to get there and it takes a lot of development and a lot of work to understand.

In some ways, its even harder because sometimes the directions pull you away from what you believe to be the right answer. I think the team did a great job in understanding the philosophy behind it.

If you look up and down the grid, a lot of other teams have taken the same philosophy. They did what we did last year and theyve taken the philosophy of the fastest car and developed it as their own.

Its not a new concept, its just that everybody latched on to it because I think we did quite a good job and other teams were a little bit upset that wed done quite a good job.

Drivers warned of surge in illegal number plate cloning as older cars look to avoid fines – Express

Posted: at 4:44 am

Many drivers have been stung by fines wrongly attributed to their cars since the introduction of clean air zones and the expansion of Londons Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). With the number of fines increasing for drivers who have not entered the car tax zones, it has been suggested that more rogue motorists are using fake plates to cheat city centre enforcement cameras.

Bath, Birmingham and Portsmouth all launched their clean air zones last year, with some more polluting vehicles being charged a daily fee for driving in the zone.

A number of other cities are also set to launch a clean air zone this year, including Greater Manchester, Oxford, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Some clean air zones charge older cars between 7 and 10 per day to drive inside the emissions area, whilst larger vehicles like HGVs and buses can be charged between 50 and 100.

There are fears that as more clean air zones are introduced, more fake number plates could be seen.

In 2019, the number of drivers complaining to the DVLA about correspondence, fines or penalties wrongly linked to their vehicles has more than doubled.

The DVLA had 9,384 complaints about correspondence, fines or penalties wrongly linked to vehicles in 2019, up from 4,021 in 2018.

In 2020 the figure fell to 7,400, thought to be due to traffic levels in the pandemic.

Between January 1 and July 31 last year, the latest period figures are available for, it was 4,110.

Jack Cousens, head of policy at the AA, said: With cities across the country introducing clean air zones, plate cloning could increase as fraudsters hope to cheat the charges.

A policy from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) stipulates that if a driver is stopped more than once with a plate which doesnt meet regulations, the registration should be rescinded.

In this case, the driver would be issued with a new, random number plate.

This is done so all number plates meet the UKs regulations and can be more easily identified by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras.

A quick Google search can lead drivers to find fake number plates, which could potentially be used to navigate around the charges.

There have been a number of instances where drivers have been wrongly fined for supposedly driving inside a clean air zone.

Richard Gregory-Gibbons, from Staffordshire, says a driver with the exact same car and same licence plate is frequently travelling through Birminghams CAZ zone and claims his registration plate was cloned.

This case of mistaken identity has left him inundated with penalty charge notices (PCN).

In August, he had received almost 30 letters and needed to appeal each fine individually via the councils website.

He received six letters in just one day three of which were for bus lane fines and one warning letter from the clean air zone.

Another driver, Ruth Costello from West Sussex, said she had been receiving the 120 penalty charge notices (PCNs) since the launch of Birminghams CAZ in June.

The motorist, who lives 160 miles away from Birmingham, received 19 fines totalling 2,280, despite having never driven in the city.

About cloning a repository

You can clone a repository from GitHub.com to your local computer to make it easier to fix merge conflicts, add or remove files, and push larger commits. When you clone a repository, you copy the repository from GitHub.com to your local machine.

Cloning a repository pulls down a full copy of all the repository data that GitHub.com has at that point in time, including all versions of every file and folder for the project. You can push your changes to the remote repository on GitHub.com, or pull other people's changes from GitHub.com. For more information, see "Using Git".

You can clone your existing repository or clone another person's existing repository to contribute to a project.

On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository.

Above the list of files, click Code.

To clone the repository using HTTPS, under "Clone with HTTPS", click . To clone the repository using an SSH key, including a certificate issued by your organization's SSH certificate authority, click Use SSH, then click . To clone a repository using GitHub CLI, click Use GitHub CLI, then click .

Open TerminalTerminalGit Bash.

Change the current working directory to the location where you want the cloned directory.

Type git clone, and then paste the URL you copied earlier.

Press Enter to create your local clone.

To clone a repository locally, use the repo clone subcommand. Replace the repository parameter with the repository name. For example, octo-org/octo-repo, monalisa/octo-repo, or octo-repo. If the OWNER/ portion of the OWNER/REPO repository argument is omitted, it defaults to the name of the authenticating user.

You can also use the GitHub URL to clone a repository.

An empty repository contains no files. It's often made if you don't initialize the repository with a README when creating it.

On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository.

To clone your repository using the command line using HTTPS, under "Quick setup", click . To clone the repository using an SSH key, including a certificate issued by your organization's SSH certificate authority, click SSH, then click .

How to clone a laptop hard drive | Knowledge Base

Posted: at 10:33 pm

If you have decided to replace the hard disk of your laptop with a new one, you can use Acronis True Image to do the cloning.

It is recommended to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old drive via USB. Otherwise you will may not be able to boot from the new cloned drive, at Acronis True Image will apply a bootability fix to the new disk and adjust the boot settings of the target drive to boot from USB. If the new disk is inside the laptop, the boot settings will be automatically adjusted to boot from internal disk. As such, hard disk bays cannot be used for target disks. For example, if you have a target hard disk (i.e. the new disk to which you clone, and from which you intend to boot the machine) in a bay, and not physically inside the laptop, the target hard disk will be unbootable after the cloning.

(!)If you are using Acronis True Image 2017 or earlier, the cloning should be done from Acronis Bootable Media (created on CD/DVD or Flash). When cloning from Acronis Bootable Media, you do not need to have an operating system or an Acronis product installed on the new drive. You do not even need to have the new drive formatted to do the cloning. For information on Acronis Bootable Media see Acronis bootable media.

Even when you startcloningin Windows, the computer will reboot into the Linux environment the same as when booting from the rescue media. Because of this, it is better to clone under rescue media. For example, there may be a case when your hard disk drives are detected in Windows and not detected in Linux. If this is the case, thecloningoperation will fail after reboot. When booting from the rescue media, you can make sure that Acronis True Image detects both the source and target disks before starting thecloningoperation.

Assuming that you have your new drive installed in the laptop, and the old one connected via USB, here is a sample cloning scenario with Acronis True Image:

The product will then clone the disk.

Cloning of both desktop and laptop hard disks is supported.

Clone Cope – Splice Today

Posted: at 10:33 pm

What would you do if you were dying and didnt want to leave your loved ones behind suffering from grief? What if you could clone yourself, and that clone would have your full consciousness and subconsciousness, yet no memory of being a clone? Your family would go on without ever knowing the truth of your death, and they wouldnt feel any grief or sorrow. You could die knowing theyd be happy.

This is the story behind a new film, Swan Song, directed by Benjamin Cleary, now streaming on Apple TV. It takes place in the future, and Mahershala Ali plays Cameron Turner, who has terminal illness. The end is nigh, and its not pretty. He has a wife, Poppy (Naomie Harris), and a young son, with another child on the way. Hes kept his illness a secret from Poppy, and in the meantime, has engaged the services of a clinic that specializes in human cloning. The director is Dr. Scott, played by Glenn Close.

The clinic is located in a beautiful place, surrounded by a lake and woods. Its a serene and tranquil, yet its futuristic setting is divorced from humanity. Dr. Scott is warm and kind but underneath shes more interested in creating more clones than helping people navigate their grief and pain. One gets the impression that Dr. Scotts focus on pure science of such an undertaking is synonymous to the notion of compassionate help, much like its present in assisted suicide clinics. At first, she appears to be guiding Cameron through the process where he controls the outcome. However, there are instances where its clear that Dr. Scotts mission is to complete the process of cloning and transfer.

Camerons conflicted. He doesnt know if hes making the right choice, but times running out. He lies to Poppy about going away on a business trip, while undergoing a series of procedures to make the final switch and release the cloned Cameron. But times running out. He could die at any moment. If Poppy and his son witness his death, then the experiment is useless.

We witness a series of flashbacks on how Cameron and Poppy met, some troubles in their marriage due to an untimely death of Poppys brother, Andre, and the joy and anxiety of expecting another child. They live fairly comfortable life. Setting aside the economics of the experiment, the subject matter of Swan Song naturally yields many questions concerning the ethics of human cloning.

Should humans be commodified in such a way? Isnt there human singularity and soul, which cant be cloned or replaced? Why are we afraid of death, and more importantly, are we making man the measure of all things, or do we have even a shred of awareness of the sacred that makes us question cloning?

Although visually well done, Swan Song doesnt ask any of these questions. Except for a brief moment, in which (through a flashback) Cameron, Poppy, and Andre discuss whether they would clone themselves, there are no other instances where a deeper reality of such an act is discussed. I dont expect a dry, philosophical treatise on the morality of human cloning, in which Glenn Close presents a lecture to the audience. However, the opportunity for explorations was never taken. Close, whos an actress of immense talent, appears to unchallenged, and thus didnt really rise to bigger heights simply because her character wasnt given any depth.

Ali and Harris offer good performances, but the film is maudlin and sappy. Cameron and Poppy are always crying about one thing or another. Hes emasculated and unable to make any choices, and Poppy spends a lot of time comforting him. Camerons dealing with his illness alone, struck with sadness that he will die. He has convinced himself that the best path is to not cause any suffering for Poppy and his son.

Although Camerons intention is not without merit or even love, this long goodbye has no meaning, except to say he made that final choice. The story progresses slowly into nothingness. Theres no conflict or even a mention of fate. What would have made the film more intriguing is if Camerons clone died shortly thereafter, say, in an accident. This would call into question the idea of predestination and whether ones moment of death is already decided. In turn, this then follows yet another thread of questioning: whether God exists and what our relationship to God is, especially when we think of death?

The story concludes neatly. Camerons clone made it through the transfer process, and Poppys blissfully unaware. The clone is indistinguishable from Cameron, yet thats not entirely true. During the process of transformation, the clone (whom they call Jack) is singularly different. Cameron and Jack fight over whos the real Cameron, and Jack has some strong opinions about Cameron and Poppys marriage. We could conclude that this is another side of Camerons consciousness speaking, but the difference between the two men goes beyond the idea of split or conflicted personality.

One of the biggest flaws of Swan Song is theres no authentic questioning that might emerge from a character like Cameron. Its as if the makers of the film were afraid to delve into those questions. Cloning deserves to be explored carefully. We have to ask what it means to be a human in the first place. Swan Song has an excellent cast and rich subject matter, yet, just like Cameron, fell accidentally into milquetoast choices.

Undoubtedly WhatsApp is a great news site. But due to lack of support for two different accounts on the same device, the messaging platform does not allow users to access two WhatsApp numbers simultaneously on the same phone. However, there are many solutions to this. Both custom Android clones and third-party apps allow the use of two WhatsApp numbers on the same mobile. Heres how to do it.

Another Cloning Glitch Found In Pokmon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl – Kotaku

Posted: December 15, 2021 at 9:40 am

No doubt, another patch is incoming. Screenshot: Osirus Studios/Nintendo/Game Freak/YouTube

Earlier this month, the Ver. 1.1.2 update was released for Pokmon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl. It might have fixed the known cloning glitches, but another one has been found.

Thats right, theres another menu glitch that allows players to clone their Pokmon. The glitch has been confirmed by numerous YouTubers, including Blaines, PanFro Gamers, and Osirus as well as Japanese Twitter users like Kajiyama. Once again, its possible to dupe full boxes of Pokmon with items.

Triggering the glitch can seem a little tricky, and its necessary to have the Fly ability for this to work. Here are the steps for the latest clone glitch:

1. To get ready, make sure that Fly is in the top right corner of Hidden Moves in your Poktch. Also, make sure you have a box of Pokmon you want to clone. And save before you start!

2. Get in front of a Pokmon Center. Any Pokmon Center is fine.

3. With the Poktch in the top right of the screen, hit R and A at the same time. It might be necessary to spam this a couple time, but once done correctly, it will take you to the Fly menu.

Its a good idea to wear headphones while doing this, because even though youre on the Fly menu, the glitch enables you to hear your Trainer going into the Pokmon Center.

4. Even though you are in the Fly menu, you need to head down the escalator off-screen in the Pokmon Center. To do this, press up two times on the D-pad and then go right six times.

5. Then, while still in the Fly menu, you are going to go back up the escalator. Press right once, left five times, and then down two. These movements are being down in the D-pad.

6. At this point, your Trainer is outside the Pokmon Center, but the screen is still the Fly menu. Then, using the right stick, select any city. This part can freeze your game, so make sure your timing is correct. Select a city, hit A, wait half a second, hit X, and then right after, hit A again. If your timing is wrong, youll have to do the whole process all over again.

7. Once in the city, enter a house.

8. In the house, you are ready to do the menu glitch. Its a good idea to use your left analog stick, so you dont accidentally move your Trainer. Also, stay away from NPCs.

9. Go into the box, pick a Pokmon, and press A. Then, hit X, which opens another Menu (the second layer of Menus).

10. From this Menu, go into your Pokmon, and hit R. Then, once the box window appears, hit Y twice and select the entire box. Press A to pick up the selected Pocket Monsters, and then toggle right or left to go to the box for the cloning, which probably should be an empty box. Then, move the cloned Pokmon to the empty box. After this, press B a couple of times to return to the first menu level. Select Check Summary. And there you go!

Both walkthroughs by PanFro Gamers and Osirus seem particularly helpful to those hoping to spawn the glitch.

You gotta wonder when Nintendo will patch thisand once they do, if yet another dupe glitch will be discovered.

Trevor Watts: ‘What I hear today seems to be a lot of cloning’ – Jazz Journal

Posted: at 9:39 am

Now 82, saxophonist Trevor Watts retains the same passion for creating music and collaborating with other players as he did when he led pioneering bands like the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and Amalgam in the 60s and 70s and Moir Music in the 80s and beyond.

I am finding the latest personal musical evolution, Eternal Triangle, very exciting, he says of the trio he recently formed with keyboard player Veryan Weston and percussionist Jamie Harris. The music is rich in melody and rhythm and improvisation and the group is developing all the time a lot of people liken it to the early Moir Music. We are planning to record as soon as we feel its the right time and when we get there it should be wonderful.

We accept any idea that pops up between us in the moment and try and make something of it so the music is always fresh. Its truly the sound of surprise. Isnt that what its supposed to be?

Veryan Weston previously played with Watts in Moir Music and has performed as a duo with the saxophonist. It was our friendship and long association that made it a joy, explains Watts of his duo with Weston. But also we have a very similar approach to music making. We accept any idea that pops up between us in the moment and try and make something of it so the music is always fresh. Its truly the sound of surprise. Isnt that what its supposed to be?

Percussionist Harris has played with Watts in the Celebration Band and also as a duo. Jamie came along to a workshop I did in 2000 as a singer-guitar player, says Watts. I couldnt think of a vocal idea for what I wanted to do but I had a drum so I said: Can you play this rhythm? He took to it like a duck to water. We used to get together three times a week for years and it became a mentoring process from myself to him. I found that Jamie was very quick in absorbing the way to play a groove or rhythm and assimilating ideas.

I ask Watts how he presents his compositions for Eternal Triangle to Weston and Harris. I usually dont verbalise. I work out a rhythmic and melodic plan, usually with some chordal aspect to it, but I leave it to them what they want to contribute once we have established the basic compositional aspects of the written material even that can change though. If a better idea pops up, we use it so everything is always open to development or change. Like life itself!

Watts first exposure to jazz was through his father. He had worked in Canada in the late 20s and early 30s and he brought back recordings Fats Waller, Nellie Lutcher, Tex Beneke, Duke Ellington so I was hearing that stuff from a very early age. And of course where I lived in Halifax there was nothing like it. Eventually I started to listen to Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Ernie Henry, Sonny Rollins, Shorty Rogers etc etc and on up to Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, Coltrane and so on. It was a voyage of discovery. I never met any other people into jazz I was in isolation. And so, when it came to playing, although I studied people like Charlie Parker, I really took it that he was saying: Be yourself. I had the feeling that that was the goal.

So many jazz musicians in recent decades have studied the music to degree level. Watts didnt have that option. There were no music schools when I left school at 15, a working-class boy in the industrial north. I needed to find a way out from ending up in a dead-end job and music looked like the answer. And jazz was the music that enthralled me. I needed to find my own voice but what I hear [from college-educated musicians] today seems to be a lot of cloning. Good techniques and playing through the changes in a skilled way [but] thinking for oneself is best and keep[ing] well away from prejudices of any kind.

Having moved to London Watts found himself playing in various contexts, including in the band of English blues singer Long John Baldry. We often played the Marquee and one night Sonny Boy Williamson was the guest, he recalls. I remember that he hardly ever came out of a solo after 12 or 16 bars it could be anywhere! So when it came to my solo time I thought: Great, Im free! I played what I wanted. Sonny Boy was looking at me a little quizzically but he never said anything!

The British improv scene: There was a lot of politicking. Players desperate to show and say that their way was the way and so on. It became quite intolerant

Watts became a crucial figure on the British free-improv scene forming the Spontaneous Music Ensemble with drummer John Stevens, for example. His memories of that scene seem ambivalent, however. There was a lot of politicking. Players desperate to show and say that their way was the way and so on. It became quite intolerant.

For a musical style that seemed so revolutionary it does seem odd that some of its exponents stayed fixed in that style for the rest of their careers. Watts playing, however, evolved as he pursued other creative avenues. I remember John Stevens saying that a key to success was playing the same thing all the time, says Watts. I think some players took that on board. But for me it was always about playing something different [and making] new discoveries. I have always had a very eclectic approach and I wanted to play what I wanted to play.

In 1971 Watts played the Palermo Pop Festival with the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and singer Julie Driscoll, not long after the latters hit-making days with Brian Auger and the Trinity. Free improv and a pop music festival crowd proved a challenging combination. We were sitting down at that gig. Half the crowd were chanting: Julie, Julie! And half were throwing dirt from the football pitch at us. The stuff was falling short so we didnt flee, we simply shoved our chairs back and played the whole performance. It was actually very exciting and we were locked in the dressing room after the concert until it was safe to come out. I wouldnt have missed that for anything!

Watts formed Moir Music in 1982, incorporating West African music and other elements. Did he have to study African music and become expert in it to lead that band? I listened to a lot of music from around the world, traditional African music of all kinds being one of them. But you dont need to be an expert. Listening will give you a lot of what you want to know and improv is all about listening. When I first had a jam session with the Ghanaian drummer Nana Tsiboe I heard this phrase he played and something about the way it was played, I took [it] we were about to end. And sure enough we stopped together, on the button! And Ill never forget what Nana said afterwards: Its nice to play with someone who listens.

Audiences reacted differently to the music that Watts was now playing in place of the free improv of earlier days. Dancing was part of it and when you see people dancing to what youre playing its very inspiring. I remember one concert in Bogota, Colombia, during the insurgency there. It was packed and the more we took the music out, the more they showed their appreciation, cheering and clapping loudly during the music. It felt very special and could only happen within a certain time and place like this one. And of course we reacted to what the audience were giving us which was everything they had.

Moir Music also played in Burma. It was always important to me to take the group to unstable places, declares Watts. We played a concert at the Inya Lake Hotel. [Military dictator] Ne Win lived on an island in the middle of that lake and when we were at our loudest a searchlight came on from across the water and targeted the room we were in. This was an attempt at intimidation and some of the Burmese started to drift away. But we played even louder and stronger!

And in Mandalay we [were] told the secret police were within the performance space. Our little bit of subversion was to play [Bob Marleys] Redemption Song. Nana Tsiboe sang the words. The reward was to see the faces of those people who were being restricted light up.

I first met Peter Knight while working at Boosey & Hawkes music publishers in London in the 60s. He was selling violins, I was a music proofreader and John Stevens was working in the music hire library

Curiously, amongst Wattss frequent collaborators have been drummer Liam Genockey and fiddler Peter Knight, both best known for their work with folk-rockers Steeleye Span. I first met Peter while working at Boosey & Hawkes music publishers in London in the 60s. He was selling violins, I was a music proofreader and John Stevens was working in the music hire library. One day I said to Pete to come and listen to John and I play in a pub. He came and stated it was a load of self-indulgent rubbish!

In 1982 Watts and Knight ran into each other after a gap of years. Knight now declared that he wanted to learn about improvisation. So the next day I went round to Petes house and thats how we started. With Liam we started to play together in Amalgam. I loved [Knight and Genockeys] musicianship and I was always interested in putting things together that on the surface didnt fit the mould of jazz.

I cant resist asking Watts if he has ever gone to a Steeleye Span gig. Yes, a show in Worthing. What did I think? Load of self-indulgent rubbish, of course! he jokes.

Despite how remarkable Watts career has been, he has in the past said that he finds it hard to get gigs in Britain. Does he actually feel under-appreciated? Of course appreciation is wonderful and I enjoy it when it happens. But I am not doing this for peoples appreciation, states this most artistically dedicated and uncompromising of musicians. [Im doing it] to arrive at as deep an understanding of the music as I can muster in my lifetime.

Eternal Triangle play the Vortex, London on 22 December
