Study Reveals That Over A Third Of Nigerians Have Invested In Crypto In The Last 6 Months – TronWeekly
Posted: April 15, 2022 at 12:35 pm
According to KuCoins Into The Cryptoverse research, 35% of Nigerians aged 18-60 have invested in or are trading bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
The survey exposes key information about the local population, such as the fact that 33.4 million Nigerians, or 35 percent of the population aged 18 to 60, now hold or have traded cryptocurrencies in the last six months.
Over half of Nigerian cryptocurrency investors put their money into digital currency. 65 percent of Nigerian crypto investors use peer-to-peer trading to put fiat money into cryptocurrency.
Another significant result is that 70% of Nigerian crypto investors want to expand their cryptocurrency investments in the next six months, indicating that digital asset adoption is rising in the nation.
The fact that the Nigerian currency, the Naira, has devalued by nearly 209% in the last six years might be ascribed to such high adoption rates. According to the KuCoin poll, 37% of crypto investors in the nation have been trading cryptocurrencies for more than three years, with 6% trading for more than six years.
With national inflation rates at their highest since 2008, Nigerias difficult economic situation was exacerbated by the COVID-19 epidemic, making cryptocurrencies an appealing alternative source of income, especially in the optimistic market of 2021.
Such explanations are supported by the reports findings, which show that 26% of surveyed crypto investors have started trading cryptocurrencies in the last six months.
According to the report, the strong adoption rate of cryptocurrencies also demonstrated gender parity in crypto investing, with women accounting for 50% of all crypto investors, on a level with males.
According to the breakdown of reasons for investment, 53% of investors consider cryptocurrencies to be a reliable value-storage and payment means, 50% invest to gain higher long-term returns, and 40% attempt to start their own businesses and improve living conditions.
Another 36% invest as a supplement to their salaries, 34% strive for financial independence, and 26% hope to rely on cryptocurrencies as their primary source of income.
In times of economic difficulty, cryptocurrencies are becoming a significant financial tool for Nigerians in times of payment and value storage, according to the Cryptoverse research.

Stock market holidays 2022: The US markets are closed on these days – Bankrate.com
Posted: at 12:35 pm
Stock market holidays are non-weekend business days when the two major U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, are closed for the day. These holidays typically closely follow federal holiday schedules, as they are usually major holidays like Christmas and Independence Day.
Regular operating hours for both exchanges are Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. 4 p.m. ET. Markets do not operate during the weekend.
Sometimes, if a holiday falls on a weekend, stock markets will close on the Friday prior to the holiday, as is often the case with Good Friday and Easter.
Below is the schedule for 2022 stock market holidays when the NYSE, Nasdaq and bond markets are closed:
The Securities Industry and Financial Markets (SIFMA) provides this holiday schedule as a recommendation for bond markets, and is subject to change. (Heres a list of days when banks are closed for the holidays, too.)
The stock market generally follows its holiday schedule without any additional early closures, with the exception of the day before Independence Day (falls on a Sunday in 2022), Black Friday and Christmas Eve (falls on a Saturday in 2022), when the Nasdaq and NYSE close at 1 p.m. ET.
Bond markets, however, have some early and additional closures throughout the year. Bond markets close early, at 2 p.m. ET, on the following days:

The Cubs need stars at Wrigley Field, where Marcus Stroman and Seiya Suzuki are making a strong first impression – The Athletic
Posted: at 12:34 pm
On the night the Cubs finalized Marcus Stromans three-year, $71 million contract, president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer called Seiya Suzukis agent, Joel Wolfe, with a reminder before Major League Baseball imposed a lockout: Dont forget about us. We will be waiting for you on the other side.
While Stromans decision-making process appeared to be rushed, the Cubs used the unstructured time to reassess their scouting and R&D evaluations of Suzuki and focus on the personal touches in the next phases of their recruiting efforts. Like Suzuki, Stroman had mentally prepared to sign after the lockout until the Cubs saw they were running out of options for their rotation and realized they couldnt afford to be so patient and passive. Stroman needed to board a red-eye flight from Los Angeles International Airport to reach Chicago in time to close the deal before the Dec. 2 transactions freeze.
Staggering those signings and shutting down the industry for 99 days created zero momentum for the Cubs business operations department and MLB as a whole. The Cubs announced 35,112 as their Opening Day attendance and that number dropped to 30,369 and 32,858 for the seasons first weekend at Wrigley Field. Casual fans must be wondering: Who are these guys? Nine Cubs made their first appearance on an Opening Day roster, and 11 of those 28 active players were not with the club last season.

Never will I ever: What’s the definition of a ‘modern lady’? – The New Times
Posted: at 12:33 pm
Apparently being a woman does not automatically make you a lady. Being a lady, it is believed, one has to have class and self-respect. We have heard so many customs that should govern a lady and some, I admit, are deplorable.
When modern is added to lady, you probably picture a wild, conceited, and probably well-to-do female. Well, there is not always one way to see it. But there are certain things, thankfully, I will never have to go by simply because we are in the 21st Century. For example;
Never will I ever force myself to take on masculine traits just to be considered a strong woman. Some girls fight their emotions at the expense of their happiness just to be regarded as tough. No, thanks. I choose to embrace my sensitivity, emotional and nurturing nature. I will still be independent, bring my ideas to the board of opinions, say what I mean, be consistent and adopt more qualities because, by the way, it is okay to learn along the way and not have everything figured out just yet.
Never will I ever hate another girl for spiteful reasons. But never will I ever pretend to like another girl if I dont mean it. We know the drama between women fighting for men. Men, who, probably do not care about any of them. Or in instances of polygamy, women pretend to be okay with the situation while hating on each other heavily and deeply.
But also the modern facade of calling everyone sis (sister) should be called what it is, pretence.
Never will I ever pretend to have money in front of a guy when I dont. You know the question, what do you bring to the table? Well, I dont see why I should lie about not needing help just because it may come from a man. This, I believe, does not make me less of a female, just because I choose honesty and transparency.
Hear me well, however, because as a modern lady I will not be idle and wait for the gentleman to provide. Nor, I hope, will he expect me to be submissive.
Never will I ever die of hunger, not out of poverty, but because of an endless diet to try and adhere to societal standards. However, if I ever feel uncomfortable in my own body because of how much weight I have gained or lost then I will be happy to go on a diet, for me and nobody else.
Never will I ever wear clothes I do not like just to adhere to some standards. Some ladies will opt to wear ugly colourless outfits to be regarded as more serious and less provocative. Others will dress to impress too much, with the I dont care mentality.
Well, you choose. Regardless of the occasion and what I choose to wear, as a lady who respects herself, I will make sure my clothes/shoes are freshly cleaned, look crisp, and ironed to perfection. The point is, as long as I feel comfortable.
Again, we dont want to encourage a culture that objectifies women, to see them for their bodies, instead of their intelligence, thoughts, and opinions. However, we can be strong, intelligent, thoughtful, and respectable and still dress in a way that puts value on our feminine figures.
Never will I ever decide to put makeup on or not because of someone elses opinion. Ladies, it is okay to use that special tool to highlight your beautiful eyes or cover up acne and so on. It is okay not to go out without lipstick on if you dont fancy it. You are a lady regardless.
Never will I ever follow rules on how to be a lady. Although indirect, rules of any kind are just another way to confine people. PS; Im not talking about government rules and laws, arrest me not. But then if women still followed every rule, we still wouldnt have the right to vote or lead.

Langdon youth debuts acting career in Alberta-shot TV series, Under the Banner of Heaven – Airdrie Today
Posted: at 12:33 pm
After taking on the role as youngest son of one of the main characters in the TV series, Under the Banner of Heaven, Beau McHattie from Langdon, has his sights set on bigger roles.
Alberta has attracted some big film and TV productions over the last couple of years, bringing small acting roles and background work to the province.
One local 10-year-old boy from Langdon, Beau McHattie, nabbed a role as the son of one of the main characters in a soon-to-be-released series on Hulu called Under The Banner of Heaven.
The Mormon murder mysteryfeatures the likes of Andrew Garfield, Wyatt Russell, Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, and Rory Culkin. The story of polygamy, delusion, and violence follows the real-life 1984 tragedy of Brenda Lafferty as told by true-crime novelist and journalist Jon Krakauer.
With all of the filming taking place in several locations across southern Alberta, including Calgary, Crossfield, and Rocky View County, it was easy for the McHattie family to be part of the production.
Beaus mother Jayme McHattie noted the farthest they ever travelled for filming was 40 minutes.
It was neat he could do it, but it was also neat that the whole thing was filmed right here, from Vegas sets to Florida sets, she said, adding 40-foot palm trees were brought in for one of the scenes to make it appear they were actually in Florida.
After receiving the opportunity to submit for the role by their agent, Beau auditioned for the part under the assumption it was just for background work.
"And then I crushed that audition, Beau said.
Several days before filming was scheduled to start, their agent called with the news that Beaus background work was cancelled. After some initial disappointment, the agent went on to explain that it was cancelled because he actually had landed the bigger role of Ron Laffertys youngest son.
We were pretty excited. It was overwhelming. We had no idea what we were getting into, Jayme said.
In the series, brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty are both charged with the murder of their sister-in-law Brenda and her infant daughter. Jayme noted that some of Beaus most impactful scenes are with his character's dad, Ron Lafferty, who is played by Sam Worthington.
With a couple of lines throughout the series, Beau can be seen in several scenes of every episode, he said.
His mom noted that he took on some very serious scenes through his role. But though theseries contains some heavy material, the crew always made sure to check in on the kids on set, Jayme explained.
Academy Award-winning filmmaker and series writer for Under the Banner of Heaven, Dustin Lance Black, would often give Beau pointers and go over expectations with him before shooting every scene.
There's a fairly heavy domestic violence scene and Lance and the cast were very aware that it might be a little tough on some of the younger cast members there, Jayme explained. They would just take their time and after each take, they would talk to Beau and make sure that he understood that they're just acting and that nobody is actually getting hurt.
Being on set for what could be 10-hour days, Beau also needed to manage his school work. Thanks to an on-set teacher, he was able to keep up his academics throughout several months of filming.
I was actually pretty nervous until I met the teacher and she was actually really funny and nice, Beau said.
An additional benefit for his family was that Beaus grandpa, who is retired, became his stage person, bringing him to set and staying with him all day. The grandpa-grandson duo allowed his family to continue on with everyday life.
Beaus favourite part of filming was meeting actors includingWorthington, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Denise Gough, he said.
It was a really cool experience seeing how the shows are actually filmed and how it comes together how the sets come together, and even how the camera's work, Beau said. It's just really awesome.
Beau first became interested in acting when he wanted to be in the show Stranger Things, a science fiction horror drama television series on Netflix. His mom had to explain that Stranger Things was a little out of our realm, and that maybe they could take a look at local productions instead.
The 10-year-old took on a bit of background work the year prior before landing the role on Under the Banner of Heaven.
I just want to be a main character in a movie or a show, he said of his future aspirations. Everyone's gonna know me.
The rest is here:

Why I Signed the Open Letter to Germany’s Bishops | Salvatore J. Cordileone – First Things
Posted: at 12:33 pm
The individual bishops as . . . member[s] of the episcopal college and legitimate successor[s] of the apostles, [are] obliged by Christs institution and command to be solicitous for the whole Church, and this solicitude, though it is not exercised by an act of jurisdiction, contributes greatly to the advantage of the universal Church. For it is the duty of all bishops to promote and to safeguard the unity of faith and the discipline common to the whole Church.
This passage from the Second Vatican Councils Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen gentium, underscores one of the principal doctrines articulated and developed at the council: the collegiality of bishops with one another and in union with the Bishop of Rome, and the solicitude each is to have for the universal Church, beyond the confines of his own local church.
The councils Decree Concerning the Pastoral Office of Bishops in the Church, Christus Dominus, picks up on this theme with greater specificity:
Inspired by this teaching we have received from the Second Vatican Council, this week I signed A Fraternal Open Letter to Our Brother Bishops in Germany together with seventy other cardinals and bishops from around the world (and the number of signatories is still growing). Because the German Synodal Path departs radically from settled Church doctrine and ancient and well-established discipline, it threatens to cause a schism in the Church, even beyond Germany itself. Our expression of concern is prompted by this threat, especially when we hear leading voices of the Church in Germany rejecting the authority of Scripture and Tradition, in particular with regard to the unbroken teachings of the Church on matters of sexual morality, gender ideology, the sacraments, and the exercise of authority in the Church.
The open letter, then, is an exercise of the collegial episcopal authority given to the Church from Christ, and follows on other recent interventions of members of the College of Bishopsin particular, the Letter of Fraternal Concern from the president of the Polish Bishops Conference to the president of the German Bishops Conference, and the similar letter from the Nordic Bishops Conference. As we reminded our brother bishops in the fraternal open letter:
I signed as the archbishop of San Francisco so the faithful of my own archdiocese may know that I have grave concerns about the action of the German bishops. I signed to be in collegial solidarity with bishops from around the world in opposition to the direction of the Synodal Path of the German church. Through contacts I have with the Church in Germany, I also heard pleas of the faithful Catholics in Germany for support from the Church around the world. To give these faithful German Catholics such support and encouragement is another act of solidarity for the good of the unity and peace of the Church.
In particular, I hope the letter makes it clear that:
To this last point it should be added that all baptized women and men, as a dignity conferred in baptism, exercise the baptismal priesthood, which is a strong foundation of the lay apostolate. The history of the Church is filled with great things achieved by women in promotion of the kingdom of Christ. To suggest that women must be ordained as priests in order to have equality with men in the Church is, ironically, demeaning to women, for it presumes that what has traditionally been exclusively the realm of men is the only measure of dignity or worth, and so whatever is uniquely feminine is inferior. This is a profoundly unchristian view of what equality and complementarity mean in Gods plan of creation and in the ordering of the Church.
I believe that it is no accident that many of the bishops who first spoke out by signing this letter are from Africa, where the Church is growing in spite of (or because of) the firm commitment of the Church there to preserving Christs teachings on sexual morality, even though these are starkly opposed to many African traditional mores (including polygamy). If settled Church doctrine, consistently taught and developed over two millennia, is to be discarded as socially unacceptable, then all the truth claims of the Christian faith collapse. It may seem ironic to some, but it is classical Catholicism that evangelizes. A tepid accommodation to the latest dogmas of secular orthodoxy, on the other hand, cannot be the basis for renewal.
I hope and pray that the German bishops will listen to the Holy Father and their brother bishops and turn from their path of division. The deposit of our Catholic faith cannot be changed, and those who try to change our faith do grave harm to themselves and to the faithful.

Auburn University highlights DEI progress, goals during inaugural State of Inclusion and Diversity event – Office of Communications and Marketing
Posted: at 12:32 pm
Auburn Universitys Office of Inclusion and Diversity, or OID, hosted the inaugural State of Inclusion and Diversity event on Thursday, April 14, to reflect and reaffirm the land-grant institutions commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, while highlighting the significant steps that have been made in the past year.
Students, faculty and staff came together at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center to hear from some of the universitys esteemed campus leaders about how far Auburn has come and the proactive measures the institution is taking to create a more inclusive and respectful campus for all. In the nearly two years since the start of the pandemic, Auburn has restated its efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion on campus.
I am so incredibly proud of Auburns progress in advancing diversity efforts this past year, said Taffye Benson Clayton, associate provost and vice president for Inclusion and Diversity. We are lucky to have had today to showcase that great work. I hope today served as a testament to everyone of all that the Auburn Family can accomplish when we have a university-wide commitment on an issue.
Claytons remarks highlighted Auburns historical moments, such as when Harold A. Franklin, who was honored with an expanded desegregation marker courtyard in 2021, became the first African American student to enroll in Auburn. Her presentation emphasized the current comprehensive efforts to enhance diverse representation on campus through continued outreach and extensive scholarship opportunities. University efforts like Tiger Takeoff and Experience Auburn, combined with scholarships like the Ever Auburn Scholarship and the Together We Will Scholarship, have meaningfully affected enrollment with a 20-percent increase in new Black freshmen and transfer students last fall.
Auburn President Jay Gogue attended the event, presenting awards and affirming the importance of a diverse and inclusive campus by recounting an analogy from his background in agriculture and with the Department of the Interior.
Our focus was on ecosystem management, and one of the things that was emphasized, particularly by the ecologists, is that diversity equals stability, said Gogue, who was surprised with an award from Clayton and OID in honor of his commitment to DEI efforts as the institutions top executive. Diversity is absolutely critical to a healthy ecosystem, and a university is also an ecosystem. The work you do is incredibly important, and its about the diversity of people at the university.
Yall are making an incredible difference. Keep it up, weve got a long way to go.
Along with Clayton and Gogue, attendees heard from Vini Nathan, interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, who stressed the importance of recommitting the universitys pledge to the promotion of DEI efforts across all channels.
Auburns first State of Inclusion and Diversity is a way for us to rebuild, reaffirm and reflect on our institution's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, said Nathan, a member of the Presidential Task Force for Opportunity and Equity. Today is an opportunity to collectively look in the mirror and say, These things we will accept, these things we will not accept, and these things we commit to improving.
Attendees were treated to a panel discussion examining the acceleration of progress at Auburn that featured four DEI award recipients: Soledad Peresin, associate professor, College of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Tal Peretz, associate professor, College of Liberal Arts; Ana Franco-Watkins, interim dean, College of Liberal Arts; and Bruce Smith, professor, College of Veterinary Medicine. These dedicated individuals have a proven commitment to breaking down barriers and making all members of the Auburn Family feel valued and respected.
During their panel, which was moderated by OID Chief of Staff and Special Assistant JuWan Robinson, they discussed the measures that have been taken and their excitement to see Auburn continue to progress in DEI work in the coming years. Following the discussion, panelists were presented with awards to commemorate their impressive work and the work they will continue to do.
I am incredibly grateful receive the Accelerating Inclusion DEI award and have the opportunity to participate on the panel with my distinguished colleagues, Franco-Watkins said. Systematic change requires buy-in from all members at every level of our institution, from the students, faculty, staff, individual colleges and university leadership. I am confident in our ability to make substantive progress toward inclusive excellence at Auburn University.
Although distinguished guests and speakers had the opportunity to share insight into Auburns commitment to DEI, participants were given discussion prompts at their tables to share experiences and voice their concerns and ideas as the 2021-22 school year concludes and Auburn plans for the coming academic year and beyond. University leadership recognizes that a primary way to achieve progress and equity on campus is by listening to the people who call Auburn home, and Thursdays session was an illustration of that endeavor in the form of an open-forum action planning session led by Rochelle W. Johnson, director of Diversity Education and Engagement for OID.
In her final remarks, Clayton reflected on the day, the institutions progress and her excitement for Auburns future.
All members of the Auburn Family deserve a university where they feel respected and their experiences are valued, Clayton said. I believe we are building that here together at Auburn University.

Plans to shake up Pastoral Act scrapped as government shifts focus to conservation – ABC News
Posted: at 12:32 pm
Proposed changes to the management of South Australia's outback an area covering nearly half of the state have been scrapped by the newly elected Labor government.
Labor is moving the government's Pastoral Unit out of the Primary Industries portfolio and back to the Environment Department, promising more money to ensure sheep and cattle stations are not damaging the fragile country.
The former Liberal government had big plans for South Australia's arid rangelands, that make up 42 per cent of the state, which is primarily leased for sheep and cattle grazing.
It was trying to pass a new Pastoral Act, updating the 1989 legislation, that would have granted graziers a lot more power, but did not get it through parliament before the election.
"The previous government, the Liberals, wanted to remove stocking rates, to have extremely long leases up to 100-year leases and also to not do on-ground assessment of the quality and condition of the land. All of that stops now," new Environment Minister Susan Close told the ABC.
Ms Close said an extra $1 million dollars would be allocated to make sure thePastoral Unit could carry out overdue condition assessments of grazing land in a "timely way".
"These are lands that are precious, they're fragile and they are capable of primary production as long as they're looked after," she said.
"We'll work with pastoralists to make sure that happen."
The government will also confirm that pastoral land can be used for conservation purposes, something challenged under the Liberals.
"The last government raised a question mark about that. I don't think it is an issue, but I will find out and, if necessary, make some tweaks to ensure that's the case," Ms Close said.
"Otherwise, we need to work with pastoralists. We need to support the land that pastoralists depend on."
Under the former state government's plans, existing leases would have been changed from 42 years to 100 years and a legislated maximum rate of stock that could be run on each lease would have been removed.
It also wantedland to be inspected remotely, primarily by satellite, instead of in-person.
Nature Conservation Society ofSouth Australia presidentPatrick O"Connor welcomed the change in direction.
"The new government putting conservation first as the priority and sustainability of outback South Australia as the priority is really important," he said.
"It's only from that basis that setting the grazing rights, and the ability for community to use that land, can fit in over a longtime, so it's a really great result that the government wants to make that sustainability thepriority."
Mr O'Connor said the lapse in inspections had been a "real problem" for pastoralists and for conservation.
"The inspections are so important and making that relationship with the landholders around the condition of those assetsis really important to sustain them, to give those landholders confidence about their investments," he said.
Labor's funding injection equates to a 25 per cent increase in the Pastoral Unit's budget.
"The initial amount promised is a really good start to get back on track and thenlooking at the emerging technologies and the possibilities of what investment is required," Mr O'Connor said.
"I think really looking at how the investment in information about the outback can actually pay off in other ways, in improving tourism, in improving the sustainability and improving access to emerging markets in biodiversity and carbon."
President of Livestock SA Joe Keynessaid it was crucial pastoralism was supported.
"We definitely feel that pastoralism is the key and dominant industry in the rangelands, and it will continue to be, even though we recognise there are other alternative uses," he said.
"[The Pastoral Act] needs to support a profitable and sustainable pastoral industry."
Mr Keynes said the funding injection would help address the backlog of land assessments but called on the government toconsider other ways of monitoring the condition of the leases.
"Can we modernise the whole system? Can we actually use remote sensing? Can we use some new technologies that weren't even considered when the Pastoral Act was last reviewed?" Mr Keynes asked.
"We could do it in a much more effective and efficient way.
"I think [that],if we spent some of that million dollars on looking at and investigating some of those opportunities, then that would be welcomed by the pastoral industry."
The government has promised to look at other monitoring methodsin the future.

It just became illegal to build on a whole bunch of land in and around Toronto – blogTO
Posted: at 12:32 pm
The Liberal Party is doing its best to deliver on a campaign promise to formally deem 25 per cent of the nation's land and water as protected in the coming years, adding close to 1,000 more hectares of green spacein Toronto and nearby Ajax to the country's Protected and Conserved Areas Database this week.
With a goal to "safeguard biodiversityby reducing stresses from human activities," the decisionmeans that the properties which include 10 City of Toronto parks and portions of the Carruthers Creek wetlands will be managed by local municipalities and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and reserved only for various specific public uses, including walking, hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.
Various levels of government will focus on managing and maintaining local flora and fauna through targeted conservation efforts on the properties, and also on erosion and flood control.
Residential uses are prohibited, as is "erecting, altering, enlarging, usingor maintaining any building or structure for any use other than as permitted" though the provincial government has been known to find ways around these rules.
One of the province's latest projects, the Bradford Bypass, is slated to cut through protected Greenbelt land as well as the Holland Marsh and other wetlands, which groups are now suing thegovernment over.
Other developers have also been given the green lightto build on portions of the Greenbelt.
Ford's team is also known for trying to give developers more powerand less red tape, and for amending things like theConservation Authorities Act. The premier's use of Minister's Zoning Orders to fast-track development has been extremely controversial as the province balances an urgent need for housing with respect for the preservation of heritage buildings and the environment.
As the TRCA notes, these new additions to the database are "among the first municipal conservation lands confirmed to be managed to the national standards for protected and conserved areas."
Toronto Mayor John Tory says in the same release that "while this is part of an international initiative, we are showing that efforts at the municipal level can make an important contribution to a larger natural system."
