Favorable overnight conditions allow progress in Cedar Butte Fire – Tillamook Headlight-Herald
Posted: August 14, 2021 at 12:56 am
The Cedar Butte Fire 18 miles east of Tillamook off Hwy 6 near Cedar Butte Road remains at 60 acres. Favorable conditions over night allowed ground crews to make good progress lining the fire and laying hose to aid in containment. Containment is estimated at 10%. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Todays forecast calls for a return to high temperatures, low relative humidity, and a red flag warning that will continue to challenge firefighting efforts. Two type II helicopters will return this morning to provide aerial support, and the two type II single engine air tankers that were on the fire yesterday have been released back to their base as they are not needed at this time. Ground crews will continue to strengthen fire lines and plumb lines with hose lays in order to prevent the fire from spreading into adjacent timber.
The public should avoid Cedar Butte Road, and traveling beyond Cedar Butte junction with Muesial Creek Road.
ODF would like to thank the Washington County Parks Department for their assistance in securing Hagg Lake for aerial operations, the Tillamook County Sheriffs Office for maintaining access for fire personnel at the Cedar Butte Road Bridge, and the Port of Tillamook Bay for accommodating firefighting aircraft

OBI: The Bengals offensive line remains a major work in progress – Cincy Jungle
Posted: at 12:56 am
This summer is looking quite different from last in a lot of different ways, and one of the big ones will be on display this Saturday as the Cincinnati Bengals travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers.
Helping us break down all of the sights and sounds from training camp is ESPN reporter, Ben Baby. We chatted with him about the new faces, potential panic button points and pleasant surprises.
Unfortunately, when it came to Cincinnatis offensive line, Baby didnt pull any punches about their summer performance.
Heres what I think: we all like to bag on Jim Turner plenty and I have watched Turner for several years now (in covering the Bengals and monitoring Texas A&M from his native Texas), Baby said. One of my biggest gripes with Turner was that he tinkered with the offensive line way too late in training camp and didnt really give that first five that stability they need...Under Frank Pollack, I dont think its tinkering for tinkerings sake, I think its because there is a legit question of whats going on with the guardstheyre trying to find a guard situation that works.
The question and its response comes on the heels of the teams release of its first depth chart this week, wherein Michael Jordan is listed as the starting right guard at the moment. While things could change, it was quite a surprise, given Jordans struggles in his first two pro seasons and the fact that hes had extremely limited time on the right side in the NFL.
We havent really seen what the unit looks like with Trey Hopkins in there, what the starting guards are going to be and I think thats the caveat with the offensive lineand I hate to come on and just be doom-and-gloombut, the fact of the matter is, I think thats part of what were talking about, Baby continued. We havent really seen what that full unit is going to look like. We dont know who those starting guards are going to be, we dont know what theyre all going to look like with Trey (Hopkins) in there, with Riley (Reiff) getting a little more footing under himthen we can make a more accurate portrayal and depiction of what this offensive line is going to look like.
The way Baby and many other media members have seen things, it sounds like very few offensive linemen have been immune to occasional poor play this training camp. Things are improving as practices wear on, but a lethal combination of growing pains, a lack of talent at certain spots and comebacks from injury have plagued the group.
Its likely to improve as preseason and regular season games wear on, but the national talking points of passing on Penei Sewell at No. 5 and the lack of a high-end free agency addition to the interior of the line will remain atop minds, until this group proves otherwise.
Some other points of our conversation with ESPNs Ben Baby:
After our chat with Ben Baby, we had a Soundbite of the Week from Joe Burrow. In a bit of a surprise, Burrow admitted in an NFL Network interview that he had been a little skittish during the first week of camp. He says that hes comfortable in the pocket once again and hes cleared mental hurdles that inevitably came with his big knee injury.
We also have a Potential Breakout Player and it may be a bit of a surprise. Why? Because many could claim that the player we selected is taking a reduced role in 2021.
Also, we still have our Charity-Fest benefitting the Munoz Foundation, The Ken Riley Foundation and The Ken Anderson Alliance as a celebration for the respective players inductions into the inaugural class of the Bengals Ring of Honor. Were so close to our financial goal, so please donate here. You could win cool prizes!

Actress Tami Roman Talks Progress and Growth Ahead of New TV Deals – Houstonia Magazine
Posted: at 12:56 am
Tami Roman is capturing our hearts and taking over television once again.
While weve come to know Tami Roman through her roles in reality TV, like MTV's "Real World" and VH1's "Basketball Wives," Roman was always in search of greener pastures.
The reality shows that once helped launch her career eventually felt stifling for Roman, and she wanted to chase her real dream of being a seasoned actress. Through some in-depth soul searching, Roman quickly realized that her happiness had less to do with money and more to do with her mental health and passion projects.
I wanted to transition out of reality TV and back into scripted programming. I wanted to build my brand and expand that, Roman tells Houstonia.
The entertainer, who has been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, decided her time on reality shows had run its course.
They end up paying you well and you stay longer than you should, Roman explains. I think theres great reality TV out there, but at the time of Basketball Wives and that type of dynamic with women, constantly bickering and not really delving into our real lives in their entirety, it felt like I had stayed far too long.
Leaving reality TV was no easy feat for Roman, who says that she prayed for guidance. Within two weeks of her departure, she was able to have a continuing role on a tv show, Truth Be Told.
However, in her absence from unscripted television, Roman sustained her career with multiple television projects her culture disrupting The Bonnet Chronicles, an Instagram account that highlights her alter ego "Petty Betty," Get Into It With Tami Roman talk show airing on Fox Soul, Carl Webers The Family Business, Urbanflix TVs Vicious where Roman is both an actress and Executive Producer, and BounceTVs hit series Saints and Sinners.
Offscreen, the Houston transplant has launched other projects including Tami Roman Hair and Tami Roman Love Cosmetics which are now available in Walgreens, according to a press release. Roman is also working on a wine line.
The reason behind all these new projects? Roman one day realized that the seven streams of income people talked about, was something she hadnt attained yet.
Once I realized I only had one stream of income, I realized I had more work to do," Roman says. "More than anything I want to be able to break those generational curses and leave something behind for my daughters so that they can have a chance."
While Roman says she hasn't left reality television behind entirely, she's trading in her confessionals for rolling credits. She's now starring in the new television series, "The Ms. Pat Show," airing on BET+ and Apple TVs "Truth Be Told," where she is a season regular alongsideOctavia Spencer.
Her roles in these two new shows, along with her impressive roster of other television jobs, didn't just fall out of the sky, Roman laid the groundwork for what she wanted and worked with television veteran Chip Fields to sharpen her acting skills.
I simply asked for it, Roman says laughingly. The preparation was already there because its what I knew I wanted. For me, its just part for the course.
Roman says that she loves all the characters that she plays and that shes excited for people to meet both of her new rolesas shes put a lot of work in behind the scenes.
Tami Roman will star in BET+ The Ms. Pat Show premiering Thursday, August 12 as well as the second season on Apple TVs Truth Be Told premiering Friday, August 20.

Secretary of Agriculture: Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Ag Progress Days – Governor Tom Wolf
Posted: at 12:56 am
Pennsylvanians encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their farms and neighbors
Pennsylvania Furnace, PA Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding was joined by Senator Jake Corman and Representative Emily Kinkead during a visit to a free vaccine clinic hosted by the Department of Health at Ag Progress Days in Centre County, Pennsylvania's largest outdoor agricultural exposition, today and encouraged rural Pennsylvanians to take advantage of similar opportunities occurring around the state.
"As we work to maintain a sense of normal and come back from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's clear that letting down our guard and not maintaining some controls of protection will come back to haunt us," said Redding. "Science tells us that the best protection against the COVID-19 virus is getting vaccinated. Pennsylvania is a leading state in the nation for rate of vaccination. I encourage anyone who has not yet said yes to take advantage of the multitude of free clinics around the state. From our rural plains to our city spaces, this is a layer of protection that will benefit you, your family, your community, and this commonwealth."
COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect against the virus, including new variants. Data shows that vaccines provide protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death.
At Penn State's Ag Progress Days, individuals are able to get the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine for full coverage in one dose. A small inventory of Moderna is also available, providing individuals who may have missed their second shot in a two-shot series a chance to be fully covered. At Ag Progress Days, the vaccine clinic is located between the College Building and Department of Agriculture building on West 10th Street.
"Our local health care providers throughout central Pennsylvania have done an amazing job of improving access and availability to vaccines in the community, and the vaccine clinic at Ag Progress Days is a great continuation of that effort," said Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman. "Agriculture is a vital component of our economy and maintaining a healthy workforce in the agriculture industry is critical to prevent food supply chain disruptions throughout the state and the nation."
Community vaccine events, like those being offered at Pennsylvania's state fairs, are critical to reaching the public and offering protection to all Pennsylvanians.
"COVID-19 massively disrupted our food supply chain harming our agriculture industry, shutting down food service, and causing far too many Pennsylvanians to experience food insecurity," said Representative Kinkead. "If we hope to get back to some semblance of normal, to address food access concerns across the state and help our struggling farmers, Pennsylvanians have to get vaccinated right now."
The Pennsylvania Department of Health urges Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing masks when required by law, rule and regulations, including healthcare, local business and workplace guidance. Pennsylvanians in counties with substantial or high transmission of COVID-19 should wear a mask indoors in public situations.
The Department of Health is working to ensure the vaccine is provided in a way that is ethical, equitable and efficient to all Pennsylvanians:

Family Night shows that Jordan Love is still a work in progress – Acme Packing Company
Posted: at 12:56 am
The Green Bay Packers held their annual Family Night practice at Lambeau Field on Saturday evening, and fans of the team finally got to see 2020 first-round draft pick Jordan Love throwing in simulated action under the lights. Over the weekend, APCs Justis Mosqueda did the hard work of putting together all of Jordan Loves televised throws from family night, which you can see here:
Many pundits, myself included, have been attempting to piece together reports on practice reps, and any scrap of film available to get some reason on how hes progressing, and this was our first look at some kind of game-like situation. Its not a real game, its still a small sample size, but its just not great in both familiar, and surprising ways.
The most bizarre issue with Loves performance is the lack of zip on some of his throws. Love had the best arm in his draft class by most accounts. If you need an example, just check the gifs in this Ringer article by Robert Mays and pay close attention to the example against Kent State, when Love fires a missile from the far hash of the 25 across the field on a line down to the two. Its a great display of the arm strength necessary to make throws outside the numbers, especially at the NFL level. Loves college numbers never projected an immediate starter, but throws like this are the reason he was a popular toolsy developmental prospect.
After you watch the gif in Mays Ringer piece, flip back to Justis compilation and watch Loves first two throws. The first, an out to Amari Rodgers off of a 3-step drop, is both off target and has no zip. Its a timing route, and I suspect Love knew exactly where the throw was going pre-snap. I also suspect the intention was to help him get going by giving him a simple, one-read throw on his first attempt. It did not go well.
Throws like this are supposed to be any quarterbacks bread and butter. You practice timing reps like this to build muscle memory and to build your sense of spatial awareness for your receivers. On this throw, it doesnt look like muscle memory is driving things, it looks like Love is thinking the entire time.
His third step isnt quite deep enough. Hes too upright on the throw, which robs him of some power. On this screenshot, look at how the 10 on his jersey is almost parallel to the 30 yard line. If you were standing in the end zone, you could read this clear as day.
Yes, hes squaring up to throw outside, but given just how outside hes facing, Im not surprised he missed Amari. This looks to me like Love was thinking about hitting all of the individual steps of the throw. He never takes his eyes off Rodgers, he hits his steps from under center, he squares his body, and he throws. The problem is in the details of each step. His dropback doesnt get him into ideal throwing position, he over-positions, and as a result, the throw is bad.
Once you finish watching this throw, move on to his second, which is a deeper out to Devin Funchess. Love completes this throw, but its a bizarre lollipop off of play action. Love does a few nice things on this play, keeping his eyes left then resetting for his eventual throw to the right side. Its accurate, if slightly underthrown, and Funchess hauls it in for a big gain, but once again Loves footwork is a problem on his reset. Hes still too upright, his arm gets ahead of his hips, and the power we saw in college just isnt there.
There were a few positive takeaways. His fourth throw (at the 34 second mark), also an out to Funchess with a man in his face, had some zip and was right on target under pressure. His deep ball to Begelton, while ill-advised and wobbly, was actually on target and had some velocity on it. He also had a few nice touch passes to various tight ends.
With all of that said, Loves mechanics are obviously still a work in progress. While this was a small sample size and anyone can have a bad day, its telling that Love was better the few times he was under pressure or on the move and got to stop thinking about his mechanics.
Love can definitely make plays for you outside of structure using his wheels and arm talent, but that can only take a player so far (and occasionally can cause you to lead college football in interceptions).
Every once in a while you will see Love compared to Patrick Mahomes, which is both unfair and silly, but its worth pointing out why its silly. Mahomes is obviously phenomenal on the move, outside of the structure of the play, etc. But Mahomes has Andy Reid coaching him, and Reid is an offensive genius. Mahomes is able to bail out the Chiefs when things go wrong, but hes just as able to take advantage of Reids play-calling by hitting receivers in stride from the pocket. Reid takes every advantage of Mahomes gifts, but Mahomes also benefits greatly from some coach-generated big plays.
Matt LaFleur is no slouch when it comes to scheming guys open, but taking full advantage of Robert Tonyan leaking downfield means being able to hit Robert Tonyan between the numbers when he does so. Love may very well be able to get the Packers out of a sticky situation or two, but if he remains inefficient in structure his development will stall out. If you want to keep an eye on Love once the preseason gets started, watch carefully for his velocity on outside throws. As he continues to get more and more reps, he should be able to think less about his mechanics and his velocity should return.
Hopefully, newfound accuracy comes with it.

Bitcoin Back Above $46K on Low Daily Volume as Altcoins Outperform – Yahoo Finance
Posted: at 12:56 am
Bitcoin has clawed back lost ground from Thursdays 2.4% sell that saw the crypto reach a low of around $43,800.
The worlds largest cryptocurrency by market value was up 1.5% over a 24-hour period by press time and is currently changing hands for around $46,100.
Bitcoin is beginning to edge closer toward analysts projected $50,000 price tag, as CoinDesk reported Thursday.
Related: Cardano Announces Alonzo’ Upgrade Launch Date; Price Jumps 16%
We were seeing many investors taking advantage of recent market movements by taking profits, said Asher Tan, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange CoinJar. Theres a trend of conservatism among users who jumped into crypto around similar price levels earlier in the year, with users slightly trimming their holdings.
Indeed, bitcoins total daily volume across major exchanges, including Bitstamp, remains flat when compared to previous months, particularly towards the end of May.
While the recent price movements have seen an increased amount of activity in the markets, trading volumes globally are nowhere near where they were the last time the price was at $45,000 theyre much lower, said Janine Grainger, co-founder of Australia-based exchange Easy Crypto.
The co-founder points toward new investors remaining cautious ever since they had a taste of the crypto markets volatility when the sell-off in May saw bitcoin prices drop 50% from $56,700 to around $30,000 in a little over a week.
Related: Israeli Financial Authorities Double Down on Bitcoin-Linked Investments: Report
Yet seasoned investors, Grainger argues, are increasingly active with data hinting at a strong uptake in altcoins, beginning Aug. 9. In particular, ether has picked up significantly against bitcoin and that is starting to trend again as of today, she said.
Some folks are worried were about to repeat history with this years $60,000-$30,000-$45,000, but this time it really is different, BCB Group CEOOliver von Landsberg-Sadie told CoinDesk via Telegram on Friday. There is a ton of institutional money in the system, which behaves very differently from retail money; the ecosystem has evolved significantly with hundreds of thousands of man hours of innovation; and regulation has gained much greater definition.
Story continues
Ether isnt the only crypto trending higher on the day with cardano, stellar and solana posting the highest gains. Zooming out to a seven-day period, most altcoins in the top 20 by market cap are outperforming bitcoin while most decentralized finance (DeFi) cryptos are trending higher in the green, up between 6%-90% over the same period.
In terms of altcoins, many cryptocurrencies, especially DeFi coins, have been lagging in comparison to bitcoin and ether, said Tan. However, were starting to see a trend of users swapping bitcoin for DeFi coins, which has been a catalyst for the recent appreciation in their price.

According to the data, the Bitcoin sum was moved off the major crypto exchange Binance into a wallet at crypto custody company Xapo, whose institutional custody business was bought out by Coinbase in August of 2019.
Blockchain analytics firm Santiment has been keeping up with Bitcoin movements on and off crypto exchanges. The firms latest exchange update indicates that the level of BTC held on exchanges has fallen to a 26-month low, painting a potentially bullish picture for Bitcoin holders.
The ratio of BTC on exchanges has now fallen to its lowest point since June, 2019. This 26-month low should be viewed as a bode of confidence for holders of Bitcoin, as large exchange selloffs are less common when less supply is at risk on exchanges.
Heres a list of the aforementioned and other large BTC movements in the past 24 hours:

The family that bet everything on bitcoin when it was $900 is now storing it in secret vaults on four different continents – CNBC

Didi Taihuttu, along with his wife and three kids, liquidated all of their assets and bought bitcoin in 2017, back when it was trading at around $900. Now, the Dutch family of five is safeguarding most of their crypto fortune in secret vaults on four different continents.
"I have hidden the hardware wallets across several countries so that I never have to fly very far if I need to access my cold wallet, in order to jump out of the market," explained Taihuttu, patriarch of the so-called Bitcoin Family.
Taihuttu has two hiding spots in Europe, another two in Asia, one in South America, and a sixth in Australia.
We aren't talking buried treasure none of the sites are below ground or on a remote island but the family told CNBC the crypto stashes are hidden in different ways and in a variety of locations, ranging from rental apartments and friends' homes to self-storage sites.
"I prefer to live in a decentralized world where I have the responsibility to protect my capital," said Taihuttu.
There are a lot of ways to store crypto coins. Online exchanges like Coinbase and PayPal will custody tokens for users, while the more tech savvy may opt to cut out the middleman and hold their crypto cash on personally owned hardware wallets.
Thumb drive-size devices like a Trezor or Ledger offer a way to secure crypto tokens. Square is also building a hardware wallet and service "to make bitcoin custody more mainstream."
People who choose to hold their own cryptocurrency can store it "hot," "cold," or some combination of the two. A hot wallet is connected to the internet and allows owners relatively easy access to their coins so that they can access and spend their crypto. The trade-off for convenience is potential exposure to bad actors.
"Cold storage often refers to crypto that has been moved to wallets whose private keys the passwords that enable the crypto to be moved out of the wallet are not stored on internet-connected computers, so that hackers can't hack into the computer and steal the private keys," said Philip Gradwell, chief economist of Chainalysis, a blockchain data firm.
Gradwell said exchanges will also often use cold wallets to secure the crypto their customers have deposited.
A recent Chainalysis report examining wallets holding bitcoin shows that 11.8 million bitcoin is in the hands of long-term investors, 3.7 million is lost, another 3.2 million is circulating among traders, and the remaining 2.4 million have yet to be mined.
"We can guess which wallets are cold storage as they have particular behaviors, like receiving large amounts of crypto from a single source and not sending any for a long time until they are emptied all in one go but you cannot definitively tell that a wallet is being used as cold storage," said Gradwell.
In the case of the Taihuttu family, 26% of Didi's crypto holdings are "hot." He refers to this crypto stash as his "risk capital." He uses these crypto coins for day trading and potentially precarious bets, like when he sold his dogecoin for a profit and then bought it back when the price of DOGE bottomed out.
The other 74% of Taihuttu's total crypto portfolio is in cold storage. These cold hardware wallets, which are spread around the globe, include bitcoin, ethereum and some litecoin. The family declined to say how much it holds in crypto.
Bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin are all in the midst of yet another climb higher, up 57%, 83% and 61%, respectively, in the last three weeks.
Moving bitcoin to cold storage isn't a new idea. For as long as there's been bitcoin, there's been a way to store it cold. But it requires more upkeep.
"Cold storage requires a lot more permissioning in order to access it, whether it be in a bank vault or whether it be buried in the Andes mountains," said Van Phu, a software engineer with crypto fintech start-up Floating Point Group.
And while Taihuttu said it's easy to top up the addresses of these cold storage wallets with fresh crypto coins, retrieving them is a different story. Drawing down on his cold crypto requires physically flying to his many hiding spots.
Taihuttu is trying to put a crypto cold wallet on every continent so it's easier to access his holdings.
Buried in the Swiss Alps is a vault inside adecommissioned military bunker that's cut off from the internet, guarded by an onsite security team, and apparently, according to digital bank Xapo's website, "watched over in the skies by satellite." The precious merchandise under lock and guard is bitcoin.
Coinbase bought Xapo in 2019, an unsurprising move for a company that stores 98% of customer funds offline, in order to provide "an important security measure against theft or loss."
While centralized vaults like these offer certain security protections, Taihuttu said it feels too centralized to him.
"If you want to store your coins truly outside of the reach of the state, you can just hold those private keys directly. That's the equivalent of burying a bar of gold in your backyard," said Castle Island Ventures general partner and Coin Metrics co-founder Nic Carter.
That's why Taihuttu doesn't use banks or post offices. "I find it just too risky," he said. "What happens when one of these companies goes bankrupt? Where are my bitcoins? Will I have access? You again put the trust of your capital in the hands of a centralized organization."
But Taihuttu said some centralized cold storage companies offer a major perk.
"They have beautiful setups for inheritance," he said. "When you die, these companies handle that, as well, and I really believe they are doing a great job."
Phu said multiparty computation, or MPC, is also proving instrumental in the digital asset space. In this custodial arrangement, multiple parties all have to give consent in order for a transaction to go through.
This avoids the risk of storing private keys and authentication credentials in one single place, something known as a "single point of compromise." MPC instead breaks up the private key into shares, encrypts it, and then divides that among multiple parties, according to Fireblocks, a digital asset infrastructure provider.
"I think the evolution right now is to MPC," said Phu.
