Axele TMS Tops 5K Users and 40K Loads, Closes out First Half of 2021 with 10X Growth in Monthly Recurring Revenue – Yahoo Finance
Posted: July 14, 2021 at 1:38 pm
Continual Enhancements and Easy-to-Use One-Stop-Shop Fuels Accelerated Adoption
DALLAS, July 13, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Axele, LLC, a Transportation Management System (TMS) company, announces that it closed out the first half of 2021 with over 5,200 users registered and 40,000 loads processed, plus an impressive increase in monthly recurring revenue of over 10X since January. In its first 90 days of commercialization last fall, Axele had added 1,000 users and 10,000 loads, and now, just eight months in, is reflecting accelerated adoption by truckload carriers looking to automate transportation processes to improve workflow, streamline operations, and generate more profitable loads.
The Axele TMS brings structure to chaotic manual operations that trouble small to mid-size carrier operations, said Ravi Ahuja, Founder of Axele. For free or a small fee, users find that the advanced features, such as asset tracking, smart trip planning, operational dashboards, and more, often found in enterprise transportation management systems, bring quick order to the chaos. Built with Optyms optimization technology, the Axele TMS sorts through thousands of options for load and trip planning within seconds to present carriers with the best, most profitable options.
Axele enhances the TMS with additional connections to loads boards, ELDs, maps, factoring solutions, and accounting systems. Some of the latest enhancements include:
Partnership and integration with the DAT load board so carriers can find the best loads fast
Partnership and integration with Apex Capitals freight factoring solution for quicker payment and improved cash flow
Integration with more ELDs, such as EROAD, Geotab, JJKeller, and TrackEnsure
Expense module that supports IFTA and fuel card data import
Integration of drivers hours of service data with load planning
Support for team drivers, allowing dispatchers and trip planners to visualize drivers schedulers on a Gantt chart, ensuring no overlap of loads for proper planning
The Axele TMS is fast becoming the industry standard for truckload carriers. Its one-stop-shop and ease-of-use have hastened the adoption of the TMS, adds Ahuja.
Story continues
Says Amanda Schuier, Transportation Manager at Quality Transport, "I did much research, and I had many people asking me why I went with Axele. I wasnt finding what I wanted and needed from other providers. Smaller fleets sometimes feel like they dont matter. Theres no reason we shouldnt get the same technology that bigger fleets get, at a rate we can afford.
About AxeleAxele offers transportation management system (TMS) cloud software for truckload carriers leveraging decades of experience and insights into optimization and automation technology. Launched by Optym in 2020, Axele is the industry's first intelligent, connected solution, built specifically for small to mid-sized truckload carriers. Axele serves for-hire truckload operators and private fleets who haul general freight, dry van, flatbed, and refrigerated loads. The Axele TMS integrates with load boards, ELDs, market rates, maps, and accounting systems, to enable an owner-operator or carrier to find better loads, increase profits, and grow their business. Centralization and digitalization: key priorities for global treasuries – BBVA
Posted: at 1:38 pm
Globally centralizing processes has several key advantages: it improves cash flow visibility; optimizes liquidity across the organization; increases efficiency and reduces duplication; reduces costs through economies of scale; and enables more effective risk management.
However, although treasury centralization has many benefits, it is important for the company to have a digitization project in place to maximize automation, use of resources, process standardization and the use of economies of scale.
To achieve this automation, establishing connections between the companies' ERPs/TMS and the systems of the banks with which they operate is essential. These connections make increasing efficiency possible by standardizing and consolidating the information that companies send to banks to manage payments and collections, as well as the reception and consolidation of the information sent by the banks in the companies' treasury systems. This consolidation makes integrated and standardized management of the company's entire treasury possible.
Corporate treasuries must be able to operate from anywhere, with secure access at any time
Moreover, due to the pandemic, digitalization has become a must for companies. With the practice of remote working, corporate treasuries must be able to operate from anywhere, with secure access to all information at any time, in order to manage their day-to-day operations. This increased level of digitalization requires appropriate security standards to go hand in hand with it. Information security and control policies to protect against external attacks must be an integral part of this automation and digitalization strategy.
BBVA has renewed its range of services for companies with BBVA Pivot - an ecosystem that simplifies cash management for multinational companies. BBVAs business customers in Spain, Mexico and other Latin American countries now have an easy experience that unifies access to all payments and collections with all the security and guarantees of the BBVA.
To help companies in their centralization and digitalization processes, BBVA has developed BBVA Pivot, an ecosystem of solutions that allow the optimization of the company's global treasury. BBVA Pivot makes operating in a seamless and secure way with all the countries in which BBVA is present possible. Our solutions allow for the centralization of all operations and comprehensive treasury management in any of our channels.
At BBVA we want to accompany our clients in the expansion of their business to new markets and consolidate ourselves as their global bank, helping them in their centralization and digitalization processes. We have already supported more than 1,000 companies in digitalizing their global treasury with an ecosystem of multi-channel solutions with high security levels such as Pivot net, our global e-banking solution, and Pivot Connect, our direct channel solution to connect companies' ERP/TMS to BBVA.
And BBVA's clients recognize this. Alejandro Payss, Regional Treasury Manager for Latin America for the multinational Merck, recently participated in 'The challenges to be faced in the present for a better future', a conference organized by BBVA, where he explained: "We are looking for a bank that has a regional or global footprint and that allows a relationship not only domestically, but also supports global structures and offers a single point of contact. It is key for the bank to have strong technical capabilities and, at this point, digitalization plays a very important role thanks to the connectivity achieved through modern methods for paying suppliers, sending bank statements, etc., together with centralized electronic banking."

REWIND: Rock of Ages. The 1997 Rockfest concert in Fort Worth – WFAA.com
Posted: at 1:38 pm
Performers like No Doubt, Bush, Jewel, and Counting Crows, among many others, entertained the crowd at Texas Motor Speedway.
FORT WORTH, Texas After cancelations in 2020 due to the pandemic, many of the countrys biggest music gatherings such as the Austin City Limits Festival and Bonnaroo are set to resume in the fall of 2021. The annual celebrations attract huge crowds excited to see several big-name musical artists all in the same spot.
But before these festivals became commonplace, the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth hosted a one-day concert that may have helped pave the way.
On June 21, 1997, an estimated 400,000 people braved the Texas heat and hours of traffic to attend Blockbuster Video Rockfest. It was a festival with essentially free admission lasting from the first act around 10 a.m. to well past midnight featuring many of the bands that would come to define Generation X.
This was before the large festival scene and culture took root in America, said music critic and journalist Kelly Dearmore who was one of those in attendance. I was 21 then and Im 45 now and I remember it like it was yesterday.
The concert also took place before camera phones and social media so quality video documenting the musical marathon is rare. MTV was broadcasting live on-site from their tower in the TMS infield and WFAA video from that day shows fans moshing, being sprayed with water hoses to stay cool, and staking out places on the track to watch performers like No Doubt, Bush, Jewel, and Counting Crows among many others.
It is certainly one of the small handfuls of biggest concerts in Texas history. It has got to be one of the top 3 or 4, Dearmore said.
Blockbuster Video was the sponsor and tickets to the event were basically being given away at Blockbuster stores and other businesses around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. But the hard part was not getting tickets but rather getting to the speedway.
Backup along State Highway 114 was backed up for miles as fans tried to make their way to TMS, a venue that was only one-year old at the time. One caller to a Q102 radio program reported moving less than six miles in an hour and Dearmore also remembers the gridlock.
We left from Irving and it still took a couple of hours.
And as if the day was not crazy enough, the morning after presented more challenges as Fort Worth police reported getting several calls from parents about missing children who did not return home the night before. WFAA video shows some of them were sleeping it off wherever they could find a comfortable spot at the track.
Such wild stories from the concert and the liabilities they present are the reason why Dearmore does not believe you will see many similar scenes in the future.
The one-day nature of it, the fact it was free and backed all by corporate money, I dont know if a corporation will want to put their name on a free-for-all event like that these days.
But having covered the music industry and attending more concerts than he can count, Dearmore said Rockfest is one of those experiences that will forever stick out.
It is cool to say I was there. I have seen some cool tours, but I am just as proud to say I was at Rockfest, he said. Knowing what a big deal it is and having it in (DFW), I would have regretted it to this day had I not gone.
Even some of the musicians he has interviewed over the years such as Gavin Rossdale of Bush and Adam Duritz of Counting Crows told him they have special memories of that day in Fort Worth.
They both remembered that day very clearly and remember feeling overwhelmed disbelief at the size of the crowd and what was happening that day.

2021 State of the Cloud: No end in sight – Logistics Management
Posted: at 1:37 pm
As companies assess their current technology infrastructures and look for new ways to tackle the rigors of the current business environment, more and more of them are turning to the Cloud.
Whether theyre replacing existing, on-premises supply chain software or simply looking to add newer, more modern functionalities, these companies are tapping into Cloud delivery models. Promising faster implementation times, cheaper upfront costs, and less reliance on internal IT teams, these solutions are now being fully embraced by both shippers and software vendors alike.
Supply chain organizations are in good company. According to Accenture, the global Cloud services industry has been growing year-over-year since 2010 and is now worth $370 billion (as of 2020). It says worldwide spending on public Cloud services is expected to grow by 18.4% this year, driven in part by the move to more remote worka shift that requires more flexible, Cloud-based software.
Calling 2020 a pivotal year for the Cloud, Accenture says it played a lead role in facilitating remote work solutions. According to Accenture, the Cloud has become an essential part of continuing business and is the key to unlocking organizational growth.
A software sector that has been gradually moving into the Cloud for over a decade now, supply chain management (SCM) handles a broad range of functions for logistics and supply chain operators. Under that umbrella, supply chain execution (SCE) manages activities like warehouse management (WMS), procurement, transportation management (TMS), global trade management (GTM), yard management (YMS), and labor management (LMS), among others.
Also encompassing supply chain planning (SCP) solutions, SCM touches most links in the typical, end-to-end supply chain. Within that realm, Bart De Muynck, vice president of research at Gartner, says Cloud SCM has experienced steady growth over the last four years.
Consider this: In 2017, De Muynck says software as a service (SaaS) comprised about 30% of all new SCM implementations, with the remainder being on-premises installations. By 2022, he predicts that ratio will flip, as SaaS implementations will outnumber on-premises installations.
Certain market segments within SCM will move to the Cloud faster than others. According to De Muynck, roughly 62% of all new procurement implementations will take place in the Cloud by 2022, versus a current 40%and around 30% in 2017. He says SCE solutions will follow a similar pattern, having grown from being 30% in the Cloud in 2017 and now on track to exceed 50% Cloud implementations by 2022.
Some of the drivers are economic in nature. With companies watching their spending right now, capital expenditures (capex) are taking a backseat to operating expenses that are quick-to-value and less resource constrained. At the same time, quick, easy implementations have taken precedence over long, drawn-out on-premises software implementations. Companies are deferring their larger, capex software investments that take a long time and that consume a lot of resources, says De Muynck. Those have been put on hold.
De Muynck says that other key market drivers right now include the need to replace legacy on-premises warehouse management systems. We still see a high number of companies with warehouse systems on premise, in a server room in the back of their warehouses, says De Muynck, who adds that some shippers are reluctant to move that data out into the Cloud. Convincing a business to take a box thats physically sitting in its warehouse and put it in a centralized locationlet alone into the Cloudcan be difficult.
Transportation management, on the other hand, has historically been one of the most Cloud-first SCM applications. To operate most effectively, TMS must be able to connect to many different carriers, trading partners, and even customers. As a result, this corner of the SCM market tends to be one of the biggest drivers of overall supply chain software Cloud adoption. This, in turn, has helped drive innovation within the segment, as new vendors come on the scene and find new ways to help shippers leverage the Cloud.
Established in 1896, Castelliniis a U.S. distributor of fresh produce that provides next-day shipping and cold storage options. With foodservice operations and wholesale locations in Wilder, Ky., and Conley, Ga., the company is the largest distributor of organic produce east of the Mississippi River.
An enVista customer since 2014, Castellini looked to enVistas team to implement a Cloud-based warehouse management system (WMS) to replace its existing, mature system. As the company continued to grow, it needed a best-in-breed WMS that would enable greater flexibility and better service for its customers, as well as offer a competitive edge in the market.
With these specific needs in mind, Castellini selected Blue Yonder for its WMS and engaged enVista for implementation in early March 2020. EnVista created a plan for Castellini within a week of the initial conversation, prior to COVID-19.
As uncertainty surrounding the pandemic grew and restrictions were put into place throughout the country, mid-March became an ideal time to begin the project to provide the distributor with greater flexibility and enhanced service for its customers during the pandemic.
The enVista and Blue Yonder teams worked to create a seamless integration from Castellinis existing, on-premises WMS. Due to restrictions, enVista restructured its methodology to collaborate with both Castellini and Blue Yonder and effectively use tools and technology to ensure success. As a result of this restructure, 90% of the project was done remotely.
At the same time as the Cloud WMS implementation, Castellini also upgraded its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, adding a new level of communication needed to ensure a seamless go-live. EnVista channeled its expertise and proper implementation methodology to help the distributor ensure the WMS was fully tested against the right systems with the right data.
Training was also provided by enVista to help ensure that the distributor could be self-sufficient post implementation. By ensuring the correct training and education was delivered to the right users from Castellinis team, the company has remained self-sufficient after the system has been implementedthereby reducing the potential need for outsourcing or system errors and ensuring it can successfully prioritize resources.
The key factors for choosing to work with enVista were their in-depth knowledge, dedication to our needs and requirements, as well as their ability to supply Castellini with innovative supply chain solutions that has transformed our entire business, says Dan Taylor, Castellinis CIO.
Some vendors have made TMS much easier and cheaper to implement and use, and this has driven up the use of Cloud-based TMS, says De Muynck, who points to the new crop of last-mile, rail management and fleet management software solutions as a few examples of the latest vendor innovations in this arena. Were seeing software providers developing Cloud-based solutions that are fairly reasonably priced and that can be live within 30 days, in some cases.
Over the last year, William Brooks, vice president of the North American transportation portfolio at Capgemini, says he has seen more customers asking for Cloud-based SCM systems. That interest reached new heights during the pandemic, as companies worked to shore up their supply chain operations, manage remotely, and fully leverage their technology investments.
Cloud adoption is continuing its strong growth trajectory, says Brooks. I dont see any letup in sight.
At least some of that growth is being driven by the fact that the Cloud is now viewed as a tested and proven software delivery method. Past stigmas concerning data security and the possible loss of control that comes when the Cloud replaces on-premises servers have been dispelled by the 92% percent of organizations whose systems were already at least somewhat in the Cloud as of 2020, according to a recent InfoWorld survey.
Companies are more educated on the Cloud, have tested its waters, and realize that it really does work as advertised, says Brooks. And because of that, the Cloud is becoming more and more mainstream. Those converted organizations also like Cloud softwares lower upfront costs, the fact that it doesnt consume internal IT resources, and because it can be scaled up easily as a company grows.
Knowing this, SCM vendors have steadily started offering more Cloud-based solutions. Some have made Cloud their core product offerings, says Brooks, and are using pre-built integrations and application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow shippers to hook those applications back into their existing, on-premises systems.
Clint Reiser, director of supply chain research at ARC Advisory Group, says the big news on this front for 2020 was the introduction of Manhattan Associates Active WMS, a Cloud- native platform comprised of microservices architecture.
According to Manhattan, these platforms connect different applications (the microservices), each of which runs a unique process. In retail, for example, these applications may include order management, point of sale, inventory management, and fulfillmenteach of which contributes to the overallcustomer experience.
In 2021, Manhattan followed up with its Active TMS solution, which takes a similar approach with transportation. Reiser sees this as a key development in the push to create even more advanced, Cloud-based SCM solutions. Manhattan built these solutions using different, interchangeable widgets [microservices], says Reiser. This isnt just a lift and shift to the Cloud; the platform is designed on a different infrastructure.
Put simply, the software developer didnt just move its existing WMS and TMS into the Cloud, it completely rearchitected the technology within the microservices environment. De Muynck says this allows shippers to more easily use the solutions, which can be acquired on a microservice by microservice basis. Its also makes it much easier for vendors to extend their solutions capabilities, he adds.
Asked whether he thinks other SCM vendors will follow Manhattans lead on the microservices front, De Muynck says those that are starting from scratch may naturally move in this direction. Established vendors may have to rethink their current application stacks if they decide to move in the microservices direction.
From the vendor perspective, Reiser says increased Cloud adoption has helped provide stability for the WMS market over the last three years to four years. In other words, even companies that backburnered their large capex investments and on-premises software implementations have been willing to give Cloud a try.
In response, vendors have created more Cloud offerings, effectively stabilizing the revenues of the market, says Reiser. A percentage of the marketplace has moved to SaaS, so now there arent as many vendors that rely on the software portion of their revenues, he continues. This trend has also stabilized the vendors relationships with their own customers.
With no end in sight to Clouds domination in the supply chain software arena, expect to see new innovations, functionalities, and capabilities hitting the market in 2021 and beyond. As companies continue to emerge from the pandemic and continue their digitalization journeys, De Muynck says that more of them will be seeking Cloud-based solutions that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), real-time visibility and advanced analytics capabilities.
The pandemic-related disruptions that have taken place over the last 16 months have suddenly made these needs much more acute, says De Muynck. As a result, companies are investing in these different technologies within the logistics space, where the race is on to get these digital capabilities in place.

Conservative Radio Talk Show Host Larry Elder Officially In the Recall Race Against Newsom – Newsweek
Posted: at 1:37 pm
If conservative talk show host Larry Elder has his way, the "Sage of South Central" will be the next governor of California.
After Elder indicated earlier this month he was considering joining the recall race against Gavin Newsom, on Monday he made the news official on his radio show.
Elder said months ago he was approached by Dennis Prager to run. Elder said he thanked him but said "Hell, no. I think this state is un-governable."
But then Elder said more people that he respected suggested he run.
"The more I thought about it and the more egregious the behavior of Gavin Newsom was as he sits there with the very people that drafted the coronavirus outline at The French Laundry ... it's egregious...
"Maybe just maybe I can do something about it," said Elder, noting that Newsom has no spending limits but he does and supporters can donate at his website at ElectElder.com.
Calling Newsom "an arrogant Democratic governor," Elder said in a tweet of a video earlier Monday, "If I enter this race one of the big reasons is the way this man handled the coronavirus, imposing the most severe lockdowns of any of the 50 states, often ignoring science, science that said in-school learning would be perfectly okay under precautions."
In the tweet, Elder noted the story of a single mom he talked to over the weekend whose 17-year-old son, who is one of the top wrestlers in California, had to stop practicing his sport under California's COVID-19 restrictions. Because of this, the youngster experienced severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
"This did not have to happen. This arrogant governor has got to go and maybe just maybe I'm the man to replace him."
He also noted the state's skyrocketing crime rate, and he attributed part of that to the early release of 20,000 prisoners by Newsom. That's as California prepares to release 76,000 more inmates, including violent and repeat felons, as the state aims to further trim the population of what once was the nation's largest state correctional system.
Elder also said he's also running because of "this attack on America as systemically racist."
Elder will join supporters on Tuesday, July 13 at the L.A. County Registrar of Voters office in Norwalk, Calif., to celebrate his official announcement scheduled for around 10 a.m. Those wanting to join the celebration are to meet at the Calvary Chapel in Chino Hills at 8 a.m. that morning. Signs of support and patriotic flags are encouraged.
Elder, 69, who considers himself a libertarian, has a nationally syndicated radio show on the Salem Radio Network. He also makes regular appearances on Fox News, is an author of non-fiction books, has a nationally syndicated column and is a filmmaker. His recent documentary Uncle Tom was initially sold through the SalemNOW platform and later through ITunes, Amazon and Amazon Prime.
Born in Los Angeles, Elder grew up in the Pico-Union and South Central areas of the city. The son of a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, Elder was deeply impacted by his father who he has said was "intimidating but we never doubted his love or his commitment to his family." In 2003, he and his brother Kirk accepted a Congressional Gold Medal on their father's behalf.
After graduating from Crenshaw High School, Elder earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Brown University and went on to earn a Juris Doctor from University of Michigan Law School in 1977. His show The Larry Elder Show began as a local program on LA station KABC in 1993. It eventually became nationally syndicated, first through ABC Radio Networks and since 2015 through Salem Media Group. He's long been known as "the Sage of South Central" with his signature calling card "We've got a country to save."
Elder joins a long list of candidates running against Newsom on September 14 after a campaign seeking to remove him from office successfully collected more than 1.7 million signatures.
The election consists of two parts with voters first being asked if they want to recall the current governor and then his removal if 50 percent of voters agree. Following that, Californians will be asked to choose his replacement. So far, more than 70 candidates have already filed preliminary paperwork with the Secretary of State's office. During Governor Gray Davis' recall in 2003, there were more than 130 candidates.
This time around the list includes the 2018 Republican candidate John Cox, who then lost to Newsom. Cox, who launched his campaign earlier this year said as far as he's concerned, the more people pointing out Newsom's failures, the better.
"At the end of the day voters will choose the person they think has the toughness and experience managing an organization for success. That's me, but I welcome the voices calling for change," Cox told Newsweek.
One candidate that has made big news with his announcement he's running is former Olympic athlete and Keeping Up With the Kardashiansstar Caitlyn Jenner, who is transgender and a lifelong Republican who has noted her desire to be a "disrupter" like former President Donald Trump. On numerous occasions and in interviews, she has noted the steep decline of California under the one-party rule and leadership of the Democrats.
Also running is former mayor of San Diego Kevin Faulconer, former GOP member of the House of Representatives Doug Ose, Libertarian businessman and Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt, retired homicide detective and fianc of Real Housewives of Orange County reality star Vicki Gunvalson, and 29-year old real estate executive and YouTube star Kevin Paffrath.
Republican and tech businessman Sam Galluci, the former acting director of National Intelligence (DNI) Ric Grenell, Billboard model Angelyne, and former pornographic actor Mary Carey have also announced their intention to run.
During his Monday broadcast, Elder emphasized that he'll need help from his listeners and supporters in the form of fund-raising.
"Assuming I get millions of dollars from folks inside and outside the state, I can make this thing a horse race," he said.
During his show on Monday, Elder noted the last time he ran for any office was for fifth grade class president.

LETTER: IRR not continuing the legacy of its founders – Business Day
Posted: at 1:37 pm
We write in response to Roger Southalls criticism that the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) is promoting a right-wing agenda (IRR now a right-wing agitator, June 24) and John Endress claim that the IRR is deviating not an inch from the liberal positions it has steadfastly defended over the past 90 years (In attacking CRT, IRR is holding true to liberal position its defended for years, June 28).
As grandchildren of the late Edgar Brookes, a founder and president of the IRR, we would like to point out that the IRRs championing of the libertarian concept of an unfettered free market economy and gun rights is not in line with the original liberal positions of the IRR and its founders.
The IRR stood for the proper functioning of the state to protect its citizens from all forms of exploitation. Their notion of civil liberties did not extend to the personal right to use force as a solution to social ills.
The IRR has adopted the notions of economic and individual freedoms of libertarian groups in the US, which advocate the removal of the state from regulating the economy and society. The IRR is now insidiously importing these libertarian ideas under the guise of so-called liberal freedoms.
It is with great sadness that we have observed the decline of the IRR from a part of the broader anti-apartheid and human rights movements imbued with liberal-humanist values, to the extremist libertarian misinformation machine of the present. One only has to glance at the manipulation of facts on its news site, The Daily Friend, and Endress mischaracterisation of critical race theory (CRT) to see this.
The IRR was founded on the principles of truth and justice. It accurately researched, reported on and addressed the inequalities and injustices in SA. It was not founded to promote one ideological position over another. Edgar Brookes would have been horrified by the current positions of the IRR and its lack of moral and intellectual integrity.
Today, the IRR no longer upholds the principles of humanism and truth for which he stood and which drove his strong opposition to apartheid, his advocacy for the rights of black South Africans and the economically oppressed.
The IRR and its polemical positions do not play a constructive role in promoting race relations in our country, nor promoting good relations or constructive, thoughtful dialogue of any kind. The IRR should eschew its name and refrain from claiming that it is continuing the legacy of its founders.

Alex Tabarrok, perhaps the worlds sole Canadian libertarian, joinsThe Remnanttoday for the first time. Inflation is on the rise, the vaccine rollout is stalling, and illiberalism is resurgent. In other words, there are plenty of demanding issues for Americans to be concerned about. Thankfully, Tabarrok has a range of considered policy solutions for Jonah to explore. How can we revitalize democracy? Would open borders work? And should we abandon advanced civilization now before the machines destroy us all?
Show Notes:

-Inflation, no chance
-Jonah on the wackiness of vaccine paranoia
-Newsmaxoutcrazies itself

Kentucky’s Senators Have Long Differed On Afghanistan. Their Hunches Are Being Tested. – WUKY
Posted: at 1:37 pm
The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan will test the instincts of Kentucky's Republican heavyhitters in the U.S. Senate, who have come to represent two schools of thought on foreign policy in the party. One is already claiming vindication.
Sen. Mitch McConnell issued dire warnings Tuesday of a resurgent Taliban, regional instability, and a reconstituted al-Qaeda if the Biden administration stays committed to its withdrawal timeline. The GOP minority leader said he opposed the idea even under the previous administration.
"I said then this is a shortsighted decision, and sure enough... a reckless rush for the exits is becoming a global embarassment," the senator declared.
But for the time being, polls show strong public support for ending the two-decade-long conflict. It's unclear whether news of Taliban gains could eat away at that confidence.
Currently the Biden administration is still debating how best to protect Afghans who aided the U.S. war efforts and now risk reprisals from hardline Taliban. Sen. Rand Paul, a vocal campaigner for scaled back U.S. foreign intervention, argued that shuttling Afghan allies out would only speed the defeat of forces friendly to the U.S.
"I would encourage them rather to stay and fight," the libertarian-leaning senator said of thousands of more "Westernized" Afghan partners caught in the unfolding transition. "The future of Afghanistan could be a bright future, but they're going to have to fight for it."
The Associated Press reports the governments Refugee and Repatriations Ministry estimates Taliban encorachments have forced more than 5,600 Afghan families to flee their homes, mostly throughout the northern swath of the country.
