SOUTH EL MONTE >> AMRO Fabricating Corp. is about to provide NASA quite literally with a window into space.

The South El Monte company is constructing three structural segments that will comprise the astronaut module of NASAs Orion spacecraft, a vessel thats scheduled to send four astronauts beyond the moon and into deep space by the early 2020s.

The first completed segment which includes the frame for the windows through which the crew will view the moon and Earth was unveiled Wednesday at the companys Adelia Avenue headquarters. Another unfinished segment for the back of the module was also on display, and AMRO is working on a third segment that will include a hatch.

The unveiling drew a large and diverse gathering, including NASA and Lockheed Martin representatives who are involved in the development of Orion, and others representing area lawmakers, the city and the local business community.

NASA astronaut Lee Morin was also on hand. He was selected as an astronaut in 1996 and flew aboard the STS-110 spacecraft where he performed two spacewalks, totaling 14 hours and 9 minutes.

Mike Riley, AMROs chief executive officer, put his companys role in perspective.

This is a historic day for AMRO, and this is a historic day for American space exploration, because in just a few short years, American astronauts will be looking through those windows as they journey into deep space, he said, pointing to the rounded segment. Those astronauts will be riding on an American-made Orion spacecraft, which will be sitting atop an American-made rocket the largest rocket the world has ever seen.

Orion will be powered into space by NASAs Space Launch System or SLS, a rocket that stands taller than the Statue of Liberty and fires more than 8.4 million pounds of thrust. Thats equal to the power generated by 135 Boeing 747 jet engines.

AMRO is providing structural panels for the entire core stage of the rocket.

Both SLS and Orion have been very important programs for our company and have led to the creation of many jobs and new processes, technologies and capabilities for our country and for our nation, Riley said.

Paul Marshall, assistant program manager for NASAs Orion mission, said the spacecrafts performance and reliability will serve as a springboard for human missions to Mars in the 2030s.

All of it starts with parts built by AMRO, he said. Its a remarkable thing. Today we also showcase some of the benefits of our national investment in American manufacturing. Before us are some the worlds most complicated, most highly optimized parts that have ever been built.

AMROs completed window panel will be shipped in the coming weeks to NASAs Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans in preparation for welding to other sections.

Orion is the first spacecraft built for astronauts destined for deep space since the Apollo missions of the 1960s and 70s. Its designed to go farther than humans have ever traveled, well beyond the moon, pushing the boundaries of spaceflight.

Founded in August 1977 by Michael K. and Thora A. Riley, AMRO was initially conducted out of the familys home until later that year when it was moved into an 8,000-square-foot building.

During that time, the company supported metal fabricating for such companies as Hepa Corp., Ryerson Steel and Calavar Corp. AMRO began venturing into the aerospace industry in late 1979, and today the family-owned business has about 200 employees and seven buildings with more than 300,000 square feet, including a facility on March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County that has a 14,000-square-foot runway.

The couples son, Steven, formerly served as the companys CEO and is now a director. Their daughter, Aquilina Hutton, formerly served as president and is also a director.

AMRO specializes in the manufacturing of lightweight metallic structures for demanding environments on missiles, launch vehicles and spacecraft. The companys annual sales exceed $70 million.

The hermit state announced will launch the strike in mid-August, with military officials preparing the final details of the attack before seeking approval from despot Kim Jong-un.

President Donald Trump pledged yesterday to respond to North Korea's threats with fire and fury the likes of which the world has never seen - a move which was immediately undermined by North Koreas declaration of war.

But Kim Jong-uns state media said the comments were a load of nonsense and claimed only absolute force can work on him, ratcheting up tensions and leading to fears the world may be witnessing the early days of World War 3.

His latest vision came to him in the form of a dream, in April, in which Horacio says he saw balls of fire falling from the sky and hitting the Earth.

Horacio claims D-Day will fall on the 100th anniversary of the visitation of Our Lady of Fatima, the Virgin Mary, which started on May 13, 1917.

It was on that day, according to Catholic belief, Jesus mother visited a village in Portugal and warned that if they did not convert Russia to the faith, God would wreak havoc on the world.

Her sixth and final visit was said to be on October 13, 1917 and the 100th anniversary of this date is approaching in just two months time.

Horacio told the Daily Star:The main message that people need to know in order be prepared is that between May 13 and October 13 2017, this war will occur and be over with much devastation, shock and death.

The warning comes after Trump reportedlylaunched supersonic B-1B bombers from Guam airbase and warned America would respond to threats with fire and fury as North Korea warned of plans to attack the US naval outpost.

Earlier on Tuesday, we found out that the US Defense Intelligence Agency confirmed that North Korea has produced a miniaturized warhead, capable of being attached to an Intercontinental Missile which would have the potential of striking the United States.

After a day full of lunatic tweets about the Clintons and how fantastic his presidency has been going these past six months, Donald Trump weighed in on the North Korean threat at a photo op at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. In what seemed like off-the-cuff remarks, he issued a dire ultimatum to the rogue state.

North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen he has been very threatening beyond a normal state. They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before, he said.

The words are extraordinary coming from a sitting president, but its just another day at the office for Donald.

This is why elections have consequences. For those that supported this unhinged buffoon or those Bernie fuckfaces that chose to wedge their vote up their rectums like the sullen anal-retentive children they arethis is what you get. Rather than giving a well-considered response to this existential danger, Donald lashed out like a three year old god only knows what will be the final result.

On August 5th, the UN Security Council voted to unanimously pass sanctions against North Korea. The 15-0 vote which included both Russia and China, sent a serious message to the DPKR that their continued behavior is unacceptable. Of course, now that our president has opened up his big trap, what could have been a bargaining chip for the global community has been overshadowed by a tantrum.

Right now, dawn is breaking in Pyongyang and soon Kim Jong Un will be fully briefed what will be his reaction?

At this point, the burning question on everybodys mind is, Is Kim Jong Un really that crazy?

Opinions vary on the matter. Some say, hes just vying to be a superpower to ensure the survival of his regime. Others say yep the man is nutsy fagen. But maybe the real question should be, Is Donald Trump really that crazy? Moreover, maybe its finally time for congress to get together on a bipartisan basis and impeach his ass already. Theres just way too much at stake. We cant address this nuclear threat with the madness of King Georgeor in this case King Donald.

Its time we face reality before its too late.

This year, the list features artists such as Calvin Harris, Marshmello, and Tiesto amongst those who have walked away with a high bank balance.

THOMASVILLE A missions project that brings children from across the country to Davidson County brought students this year from across the globe to Thomasville Middle School.

According to Toby Prince, executive director of Lexington Housing Community Development Corporation, more than 240 kids spent last week performing home repairs and sharing their faith throughout the county before retiring each night to Thomasville Middle.

Every two years, we line up children from youth groups to bring children in from all over the United States, and this year, we have kids who have come in from Tokyo, Prince said of the project known as Group Work Camp. A portion of the houses are in Lexington, and some are in Thomasville. We work hand-in-hand with the City of Lexington and the City of Thomasville.

Prince said the students spent Monday through Friday working to complete home repairs by painting and building ramps, among many other different things for local residents.

It has been amazing watching these kids, Prince said. I've been able to visit some of the job sites. All five of the kids on the job site (last Wednesday) were from different states. It's just unreal how they've built these friendships. You'd never think they all come from different states.

In years past, students have been housed at Lexington High School. This year, it was Thomasville's turn to serve as host.

According to Prince, the girls were housed in the seventh-grade hall, while the boys took the eighth-grade hall, where they spent the nights in classrooms.

Prince was effusive with his praise of TMS staff, particularly principal Kevin Leake and Lakeahia Bradby, the TMS secretary who helped organize the logistics. Prince said the setup worked out perfectly.

Prince also credited the United Way, which helps provide for CDC projects.

We get funding from the United Way, Prince said. I think a lot of times the general public doesn't see how United Way dollars are spent. The grant we get from United Way pays for materials for this program. If we didn't get United Way dollars, we wouldn't be able to do this.

Prince says planning for the next visit to Davidson County will commence shortly. In November, he said his organization will probably sign the contract for 2019. After that contract is signed, the group will secure housing for the students.
