PES 2018 makes it official with Valencia CF partnership … – Videogamer.com
Posted: August 8, 2017 at 4:17 am
Konami has announced that its become the official video gaming partner of one of the most successful Spanish football teams in history, Valencia CF, for its Pro Evolution Soccer series. This will see the La Liga clubs full squad along with all the kits replicated in the forthcoming PES 2018. Valencia has won a number of trophies over the years, but recently its success has waned somewhat following the glory of the Benitez years, where they won two La Liga titles and a UEFA Cup.
This announcement is obviously Konami wanting to license some of the worlds biggest teams (and Fulham) for the PES series. As official partners, Konami and Valencia will launch a series of digital co-promotions throughout the year, with Konami contributing PES 2018 visuals for use on Valencias social media. Valencia will also host future PES esports competitions at its iconic Mestalla stadium throughout the season.
Jorge Garca, Valencia CF Head of Marketing, Commercial and Fan Experience Area, said that hes delighted with this partnership, and further showed how enthusiastic he was stating that, were looking forward to seeing the spectacular images of our players in the new and future editions of the PES series.
So now everyone is happy and understandably chuffed, we can move on with things in the world. Theyre happy, Valencia fans are happy and Fulham fans are happy. The full list of licensed teams will be revealed at Gamescom 2017 according to the PES Global Product and Brand Manager, Adam Bhatti.
PES 2018 will be released on September 14 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Is It Time to Embrace Political Correctness? Kelly Carlin, Kliph Nesteroff and Stephen J. Morrison Take on the PC Debate – The Interrobang
Posted: at 4:16 am
The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival continued this week in Jamestown, NY, with outstanding stand-up comedy interspersed with great conversation and debate at the nearby Chautauqua Institution a summer community devoted to immersion in art, culture, creativity, and philosophy. On Friday at the Chautauqua Pavilion, Kelly Carlin continued an In Conversation series- this time sitting down with comedy historian Kliph Nesteroff and Stephen J. Morrison, executive producer of CNNs acclaimed History of Comedy series.
The conversation touched on a number of important subjects, including some incredible insight from Kelly about what it was like to grow up in the shadow of George Carlin which led to one of the most interesting conversations of the entire week a debate about the merits of political correctness. The conversation left people talking all day following the panel discussion- as they left the theater, over lunch and into the night.
The ability to speak freely is a precious and sacred principle to everyone who performs comedy. Any threat to that right has historically resulted in strong backlash from comedians. But in the past two years, the debate has changed a bit. In 2015, Jerry Seinfeld complained about college campuses being too-PC, but since, there has been a growing minority speaking out in favor of political correctness, even in comedy.
Historian Kliph Nesteroff quickly got down to the heart of why the PC debate is changing. The phrase political correctness, he said, is being used too often, by too many people and they dont use the phrase in the same way. Nesteroff said recent use of that phrase to justify hate has changed his opinion. The phrase politically correct has been co-opted, he explained, and colored by the fascist movement, who he argued is using the phrase to excuse bigotry. I dont want to complain about the same thing a racist group is complaining about, he said. Kliph argued that its time to stop defending the right to be politically incorrect and suggested that perhaps the comedians who are complaining, are being too sensitive. Yes, we want to preserve [free speech], but do we have a persecution complex? he asked. Comedians now are so defensive, they will respond as if they are under attack. Maybe the problem is the comedians ego.
Morrison agreed that the PC debate is changing and witnessed this first hand when conducting interviews for CNNs History of Comedy. He said his opinion started to change after hearing comedians talk about their realizations about their own racially charged humor or gender slamming jokes. He gave the example of Sarah Silverman who argued that you have to listen to people on college campuses, who are often on the right side of history.
Kelly Carlin had a different take- noting that limiting speech has never been a good strategy to change behavior. She referred back to her fathers thoughts on the subject, arguing that his sentiments are still relevant today. One of the reasons he didnt like political correctness on campuses, she said, is because its a pernicious form of intolerance because it is disguised as tolerance. George Carlins full quote that Kelly referenced was this: political correctness is Americas newest form of intolerance, and it is especially pernicious because it comes disguised as tolerance. It presents itself as fairness, yet attempts to restrict and control peoples language with strict codes and rigid rules. Im not sure thats the way to fight discrimination. Im not sure silencing people or forcing them to alter their speech is the best method for solving problems that go much deeper than speech.
Carlin also quoted her fathers material on the softening of language how the term shell shock, changed to battle fatigue which gave way to post traumatic stress disorder. Carlin said that soft language takes the life out of life.Language should be honest, she said, and real. And not hiding behind something.
The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival takes place every year in Jamestown, NY, with satellite programming at the Chautauqua Institute. For more information, visitlucycomedyfest.com.

California Sterilized More People Than Any US State But Has Yet to Compensate Victims – Governing
Posted: at 4:15 am
Last month, headlines about a judge in Tennessee who offers criminals reduced sentences if they agree to be get vasectomies or take long-term birth controlshocked the nation. The scrutiny didn't elicit any remorse from the judge, who argues sterilization can combat the rise of drug-addicted newborns. But it did cause the health department to effectively end the program.
The news was a flashback to America's long history of forced eugenic sterilizations.
In the 20th century, state governments deemed 60,000 Americans -- mostlyprisoners, the mentally ill and poor people -- unfit to reproduce and forced them to undergo mandatory sterilization. Almost half of the controversial medical procedures occurred in just three states: California, North Carolina and Virginia.
North Carolina and Virginia have since passed laws to compensate the surviving victims of their eugenics programs, but the same can't be said of California, which forcibly or coercively sterilized more people than any other U.S. state. From the time the states eugenics law was passed in 1909 to the day it was repealed 70 years later, California sterilized about 20,000 people.
In 2003, former California Gov. Gray Davis issued a formal apology to victims of forced sterilization, saying"it was a sad and regrettable chapter ... one that must never be repeated." Yet a decade later, theCenter for Investigative Reportingrevealed that California had been sterilizing prisoners without proper consent as recently as 2010 -- some of whom claimed to be coerced into it by prison staffers.
One lawmaker in the state wants to finally make amends.
Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia plans to introduce a reparationsbill in 2018 that would likely provide victims with somewhere between $20,000 and $25,000, comparable to what North Carolina and Virginia respectively offered. The reparations, however, would not be extended to the women who were sterilized in state prisons as a punitive measure.
Garcia (one of only 10 Latina members of the California Assembly) felt drawn to the issue immediately, especially when she learned that Latina women made up a disproportionate number of the victims, suffering this fate at 2.65 times the rate of other women. To her surprise, one of the institutions that performed these surgeries was located in Norwalk, a city in her district.
I wanted to show my neighbors that this happened in our own backyard, says Garcia. This isnt far-fetched or far away.
If the bill is passed quickly, as many as 600 victims of the sterilization program could still be living, according to Alexandra Minna Stern, a historian and researcher at the University of Michigan who has written extensively about the states history of sterilization. (Stern is working with Garcia and others to draft the legislation.)
But victims could be difficult to find.
Most of them are likely approaching their late 80s, and since Davis apology in 2003, only one victim --a man living out of his car -- has ever come forward. For that reason, Stern says, a successful bill in California must allocate resources to locating living victims.
Stern has been pressing for reparations from the state since 2007, when she stumbled upon sterilization recommendation forms for nearly 20,000 patients tucked away in a filing cabinet in the state's mental health department. All of the patients listed were sterilized in California state hospitals from 1919 to 1952, some as young as 7 years old. The records provided proof.
So what's taken California -- arguably the most progressive state in the nation -- so long to right its historical wrongs?
One reason could be the seeming absence of any victims in California willing or able to come forward. In North Carolina and Virginia, Stern says dozens of victims began drumming up media attention, creating political pressure for a bill.
Whats more, most of Californias sterilizations happened earlier in the century, dropping off significantly in the 1950s. In North Carolina, sterilizations actually increased during this period, which means the number of living victims in that state is rather large.
Garcia, for her part, speculates that it has to do with political representation.
I think it partly has to do with the demographics of our legislature. This is an issue that has affected women and women of color, she says. We legislate from experience. So when we dont have diversity in the legislature, theres a real limitation in what were legislating on.
Stern says she's happy Garcia and other legislators are finally working on this bill, and she believes the money can make a great deal of difference for victims, many of whom are likely living in poverty.
But the bill won't help all sterilization victims.
What were talking about [with this bill] is officially recorded sterilization, people that are on a list and all their names can be found, says Stern. But what that means is that people who cant check all those boxes might not qualify for compensation. What about people who might have been sterilized at the same clinic by the same doctor, but it wasnt ordered by the sterilization board?
This has already proven to be a problem in North Carolina, where many victims don't qualifyforreparations because they were sterilized by the order of local judges who didn't receive approval from the State Eugenics Board.
Garcia is aware of the bill's shortcomings. But to her, some progress is better than none.
This [bill] definitely doesnt get justice for everyone out there, says Garcia. Its about elevating the discussion and then eventually building on it.

VACC warns of number-plate cloning scam, motorists left to prove innocence – CarAdvice
Posted: at 4:15 am
Guilty until proven innocent?
The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is this week shining a light on the most heinous practice of number-plate cloning, which it claims has left numerous car dealers fighting traffic infringement penalties.
In one case, the VACC says, a Licensed Motor Car Trader was fined over $16,000 for a single incidence of number plate cloning.
The process of cloning a number plate is said to be as simple as spying a vehicle of identical model and colour, noting its number plate, and reproducing it as easily as printing a mocked-up copy or hand-drawing it.
VACC Executive Director, Geoff Gwilym, says that while any motorist can be a victim, it is car dealers a group the VACC represents most likely to be targeted.
Criminals go online, or drive past a dealership, and note the registration of a particular vehicle. They then get these plates copied and go driving all over town in a similar vehicle, accumulating speeding and red light fines, CityLink tolls and parking infringements, all while the original vehicle has been on the dealers lot, Gwilym says.
He said that unsold, registered vehicles sitting on dealer lots are a popular target because offenders can use the cars number plate details for sometime without the crime being detected.
Victims of this crime often dont know anything about it until a fine arrives in the mail. By this time, the penalty may be considerable. Several dealer members have reported fines in the thousands of dollars.
So far, Gwilym says, victims have been told to prove their innocence in court, and authorities have revealed no plans to combat the issue.
Anyone receiving a suspect fine should challenge the decision. Those affected can request of Civic Compliance that they issue photographs of the alleged offence. This can be used in creating a defence. Importantly, bring the indiscretion to the attention of Civic Compliance as soon as possible and build a case.
The VACC has proposed a barcoded sticker, placed on the inside surface of a vehicles windscreens, would be harder to replicate and thus a possible solution to ruling out victim as perpetrator.
VACC calls on the appropriate authorities to investigate all possible solutions to this wide-spread crime that potentially could affect every motorist in Australia, said Mr Gwilym.
CarAdvice has contacted VicRoads, Victoria Police and Civic Compliance for comment, and will update this story if a response is forthcoming.

Porsche 911-Look Fiat 500 Is Like A Cloning Experiment Gone Wrong – Motor1.com
Posted: at 4:15 am
Pictures have been revealed on Facebook of a modified Franken-Fiat modified to look like a Porsche 911.
This magnificent project is apparently the result of someone in Greece with too much time on their hands. Given the state of the country's economy over the last few years, the price of a brand new Porsche 911 would probably get you the country's national bank.
While Porsche is exploring the limits of taste with its range of supersized sporting SUVs, the German manufacturer has yet to dip a toe in the small car waters, unlike its more premium competitor Aston Martin, which brought us the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet back in 2012.
The Fiat 500 base car is a decent choice, given that both it and the Porsche 911 have engines mounted in the back of the car, but in many ways any of the similarities end there.
You might also imagine that the creator of this entrancing automotive drag act might have picked a better end product than the visually challenging 1998-2004 996 model of 911, but looking at what they've done, such discussions are probably moot.
At any rate, feast your eyes on thisvehicular delight we can't seem to tear ours away.

How to clone a hard drive or SSD – PC Gamer
Posted: at 4:15 am
You just bought a brand new shiny SSD and want to throw it into your aging mid-tower PC. But wait, the horror of having to reinstall Windows again and all of your applications begins to set in. If you dont want to deal with the hassle of reinstalling Windows, you can use a simple cloning utility to clone your old drive to your new SSD. Weve rounded up three free cloning utilities that are easy to use so you dont have to go through the effort of reinstalling your OS and applications all over again.
Note: Before you attempt to clone your hard drive or SSD, w e highly recommend backing up all your data first. In addition, make sure the drive you are cloning to has enough storage space to take all the cloned data. For instance, you wouldn't want to try and clone a 2TB HDD on to a 256GB SSD now would you?
The first data copying method we'll go over pertains to Samsung Data Migration. So make sure you plop that new Samsung SSD in along with your old OS drive you want to clone from.
Note: You will need a Samsung SSD installed on your machine for this software to work.
Step 1: Download the installer from http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/samsungssd/downloads.html
Step 2: Run the installer and click "I accept" at the end of it to agree to the terms and conditions.
Step 3: Once the software is installed, it will launch and ask if you if you want to update to the latest version. Click on Update and you will begin downloading the newest patches for it.
Step 4: After the update is complete the software will have you install patches and will have you agree to the Samsung terms and conditions again.
Step 5: From this window, you will select the Source Disk and Target Disk . The Target Disk must be a Samsung SSD , but the Source Disk can be any C: Drive you currently have your OS on . Once youve selected your disks, you can start cloning by clicking Start and the cloning process will begin. Note: Leave your computer alone while you're cloning the OS, as you may corrupt the clone if other processes are being run at the same time. This goes for the other cloning utilities as well.
After the software is done cloning, you can shut down your PC and boot from your newly-cloned SSD.
The second method we will discuss uses the program Macrium Reflect and will work with any drive, regardless of brand. So before you begin, make sure you plop in that new drive along with your old drive you want to clone from.
Step 1: Go to the free version of Macrium here.
Step 2: Click on the download button in the Macrium Reflect Download Agent and then run the softwares installer.
Note: Make sure to read the fine print throughout the installation process to not install any adware. Cnet's Download.com has become infamous for sneaking it in (Here are some general tips to avoiding installing malware/adware).
Step 3: Open up the software and click on Clone this disk Once you do this the software will let you choose which disks you want as your source and target disks. When you have selected your disks, click next to start cloning your drive.
Macrium Reflect useful tips:
Creating bootable rescue media: Macrium Reflect can also help you make bootable rescue media. This tool is located under Other Tasks. We always recommend making recovery media, just in case your hard drive or SSD fails on you.
Creating an image of your hard drives: Under Backup Tasks, you can also create a disk image of your hard drive or SSD too.
These are but three cloning tools, there are many others such as Seagate's DiscWizard ( for Seagate drives) along with other free storage cloning tools such as G-Parted and Clonezilla.

The Path Toward Autonomy: Munster On Tesla’s Critical Evolution – Benzinga
Posted: at 4:14 am
As far as Gene Munster is concerned, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) has no problem with appeal.
It isnt about demand, the managing partner of Loup Ventures told Benzinga Wednesday. They have plenty of demand. Theyve been underselling this vehicle, and as you know, they have about 500,000 pre-orders for it.
No, Teslas problem isnt demand. Its production. Its a relatively low economy of scale that Munster considers currently prohibitive to the companys success.
Tesla reports much lower yields than those of traditional automakers like General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) and Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F). In the last quarter, the company produced 30 Model 3s, and in the upcoming quarter, it plans to produce about 1,500. Ambitious CEO Elon Musk aims for 10,000 a week in 2018.
Tesla isnt there yet, but Munster sees potential in its processes.
If you want to just be blown away, look at how the manufacturing of a Model 3 is versus how even some of the automated manufacturing from some of the Big 3 is, he said. The level of efficiency and robotics used in building a Model 3 really changes the equation around the pace that they can manufacture.
But even with its futuristic mechanisms, its largest plant can only produce a million vehicles a year at full capacity compared to BMWs 2.5 million niche cars produced last year. Munster said Tesla needs to invest in a bigger plant to match pace with competitors.
Whether it takes the steps to scale is the critical question around the Tesla story, Munster said. But he has hope. I think that theyre going to get there.
If not, the firm risks vindicating skeptics concerned with high consumer costs.
The expense of a Model 3 is a potential deterrence for buyers.
With a $35,000 base price and an anticipated final cost closer to $50,000 after all features are added, the product is about 40 percent more than the average $32,000 Toyota Motor Corp (ADR) (NYSE: TM) Camry, according to Munsters calculations.
But over time, that price gap diminishes.
If you look at total cost of ownership, which factors in lower insurance, the energy-saving cost with fuel, and the maintenance theres almost no maintenance on these cars, then that cost of ownership gap shrinks to about 14 percent, Munster said. I think that cost gap isnt as big as youd think when you think about total cost of ownership over a five-year period.
Musk has given a two-year timeline before hes ready to flip the switch on autonomy for existing Tesla models, but Munster extended the goal to 2020.
In fact, he said it will be another eight years before Teslas self-driving cars become mainstream, largely due to fear-driven legislative roadblocks.
I think its going to take a few years after [technology updates] to start to advance and get the legislation to loosen up to allow these, he said. I think this is probably 2025 before this is mainstream and you see a self-driving car and dont think twice about it.

Diggers and Dealers: Evolution mulls Mungari potential for extra life – The West Australian
Posted: at 4:14 am
Australias second biggest gold miner Evolution Mining is mulling the underground potential of a second deposit at its Mungari operations near Kalgoorlie-Boulder as it aims to match its mine life with its portfolios star Eastern States assets.
Evolution executive chairman Jake Klein used his presentation to trumpet the companys $14 million exploration commitment to Mungari this financial year, the most of any mine in its portfolio.
It has six years to run, compared with an 8.3 year average life of mine across the groups seven-mine portfolio, while 27 miners were recently let go at its Frogs Leg underground mine, which has a life of 31/2 years.
Deeper drilling is understood to have revealed underground potential beneath the White Foil open pit, although Mr Klein said it was still early days.
Thats an area of real interest at the moment. I think its early days, what we know is weve got a 31/2 year mine life at Frogs Leg, were hoping to extend that, he said.
Weve started drilling some really interesting results at White Foil but its still early days, theres still a lot of life left in the pit.
But I think the message Id like to convey is weve owned Mungari for just over two years now, its a very important asset to Evolution and we believe strongly in the prospectivity of the region.
Mr Klein said he hoped to push the life of mine at Mungari, secured of Naguib Sawiris LaMancha Resources in 2015, out past the group average.
At Mungari we would love to get to an eight to 10 year mine life, he said.
Industry speculation has linked the miners weakest performing asset, the Edna May Gold Mine near Westonia, with a sale.
But Mr Klein said its poor performance in the March Quarter, when costs outstripped revenue, was an aberration.
Evolution closed down 3, or 1.36 per cent, at $2.18 yesterday.

Robotics institute set to anchor Pittsburgh’s mammoth Almono … – Tribune-Review
Posted: at 4:13 am
Updated 4 hours ago
Carnegie Mellon University's Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute will be the first anchor tenant to set up shop in a former Hazelwood steel mill, officials said Monday.
Donald Smith, president of the Regional Industrial Development Corp., said the institute would occupy about two-thirds of the first of three buildings planned for Mill 19, a former LTV rolling mill.
Gov. Tom Wolf visited the site Monday to examine the mill property owned by the Almono partnership, which includes the Heinz Endowments and Richard King Mellon and Claude Worthington Benedum foundations. RIDC has managed the site.
From the commonwealth's point of view it's a way to renovate, rehabilitate an area that's been not under utilized, (but) unutilized for the last how-many' years, Wolf said. Aesthetically, think of what it means for the appearances in this area, but then it also reconnects the area of Hazelwood. I think what they're trying to do here is an audacious thing: to try to re-establish that connection in a way that pays tribute to Pittsburgh's current incarnation as a high-tech capital.
Almono is planning a $120 million development including light manufacturing, about 2,000 apartments, shops and restaurants on the 178-acre property bordering the Monongahela River.
Plans call for the removal of Mill 19's siding and construction of three separate buildings under the 1,500-foot-long building's steel skeleton.
Solar panels on the western side of the roof should be enough to completely power the first two buildings.
Gary Fedder, CEO of the robotics institute, said ARM and Almono are finalizing lease details.
It's going to happen, but we need to work through a few details, he said. I want this thing built by the end of March. You can do the math and figure out how challenging this is going to be.
CMU in January won more than $253 million in funding to set up the institute. It includes $80 million from the U.S. Defense Department and $173 million from some 200 partner organizations.
The institute will work on integrating robotics and autonomy into manufacturing.
Smith said the Mill 19 design was chosen to maintain Pittsburgh's history as a steel producer and its future as a hub for high-tech manufacturing.
Ride-share giant Uber Technologies has developed a test track for self-driving cars on the Almono site, although Smith said the San Francisco-based company is no longer leasing a railroad roundhouse on the property. Smith said Almono plans to keep the roundhouse.
He said RIDC has scrapped plans to move its offices into Mill 19 because private companies are lining up as potential tenants. He said Almono is negotiating with an international technology company, which he would not name, as a major tenant in the second building.
It doesn't help the world much to have us here, Smith said. It really helps a lot more to have a technology company with a presence.
Wolf, who also toured the Hazelwood business district, said he supports a state Senate proposal to help plug a $3.2 billion gap in the state's $32 billion budget.
The Senate voted for a mix of new taxes and tax increases, including a levy on natural gas extraction.
What I like in the Senate proposal: There is real, recurring revenue, Wolf said. No one likes any taxes, but we're looking for something that has recurring revenue. It's real, it's not smoke and mirrors and it passes that test.
