WW3 FEARS: Kim Jong-un on alert as South Korean military ‘heads to border with North’ – Express.co.uk

Posted: May 23, 2017 at 11:03 pm

The image emerged online after new South Korean President Moon Jae-in said there was a high possibility of war with the hermit state as he warned the recent missile launch was a serious threat to global peace.

Mr Moon said the countrys military was ready and capable of striking back should the North attack.

And today a picture of what appears to be military vehicles, emblazoned with South Korea flags, heading towards North Korea surfaced on Twitter.

The freelance investigative journalist who posted the picture said: Today, S Korea military vehicles spotted around Seoul heading North, hard to say if there were any Air Def system.

North Korea and the rich, democratic South are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.

The North defends its weapons programmes as necessary to counter US hostility.

And Kim Jong-un has made no secret of the fact that it is working to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of striking the US mainland and has ignored calls to rein in its nuclear and missile programmes, even from China, its lone major ally.

President Moon said: "The reality is that there is a high possibility of a military conflict at the NLL (Northern Limit Line) and military demarcation line.

Launching ballistic missiles is a serious provocation that violates UN Security Council resolutions, as well as being a serious challenge to global peace and stability. We will never tolerate such North Korean provocations and nuclear threats.

His remarks come after US President Donald Trump this week South Koreas presidential envoy that Washington was willing to try and resolve the North Korean nuclear crisis through engagement.

Mr Moon's envoy to Washington, South Korean media mogul Hong Seok-hyun, said Mr Trump spoke of being willing to use engagement to ensure peace.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck said: "The fact that Trump said he will not have talks for the sake of talks reiterated our joint stance that we are open to dialogue but the right situation must be formed.

WATCH: Psychedelics Could Impact the Future of Humanity – AlterNet

In a new mini-documentary (posted below), researchers, artists, therapists, students and other participants in the international Psychedelic Science Conference stepped aside to talk about the larger implications of psychedelics research and the historic conference. I worked with a small team to help create the film for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), aimed at highlighting the larger themes moving through the conference.

The film's interviewees paint a portrait of hope for the future of humanity, hinging on a paradigm shift in the way our society views mental health, and how we relate to each other and the planet.

We cannot have peace in this world until we have peace within ourselves, says Liana Sananda Gillooly, outreach manager for the cannabis industry investment network ArcView Group, near the beginning of the film. She is standing in front of a series of visionary art paintings hanging in the Marriott Hotel in downtown Oakland, Calif., where the conference took place.

Sure, you can go and do vipassana meditation and do yoga for years and do these other healing modalities, but right now for the times that we live in, [psychedelics are] providing this avenue, this way in, that is faster and quicker and more immediately effective," Gillooly says.

Various psychedelic-assisted therapy studies, backed up by neuroimaging research, are showing that psychedelics are sometimes capable of safely reversing psychological issues that previously seemed impenetrable. Government-approved studies have been taking place across the globe, looking at MDMA for post-traumatic stress disorder, and LSD for anxiety and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic" mushrooms) for addiction, among others. Across the board, studies have been turning over unprecedented results.

A big theme at the conference and in the mini-doc is the question of humanitys future. Given our mental health crisis, the blatant neglect of our natural environment and the rise of greed-driven world leaders who have lost touch with basic human values, conversations buzzed through the conference about whether psychedelics could help rewire human awareness before its too late.

At the conferences opening remarks, Czech researcher Stanislav Grof, a founder in the field of transpersonal psychology and a long-time psychedelics researcher, discussed the grave realities facing our species in a talk titled "Psychedelics and the Future of Humanity."

Do Psychedelic Trips Change Your Political Views? – Motherboard

Posted: at 11:03 pm

If you know any veteran psychonauts, odds are they're not Republicans.

A recent study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs investigated the relationship between psychedelics, personality, and political perspectives, finding the use of psychedelics to be associated with liberal and anti-authoritarian political views.

This might not be a huge surprise: Timothy Learythe notorious Harvard psychologist who pioneered research into acid and magic mushroomsespoused the mantra, "Turn on, tune in, and drop out," and the belief that, "to think for yourself, you must question authority." But the interesting thing is that psychedelics might actually make people more liberal after they use them by breaking down their ego and driving them to feel more open and connected to nature.

Lisa Evans, a study author from Imperial College London, said personality has been traditionally regarded as stable and unchanging once you hit adulthood. "However, data from a few studies in the last decade have shown that a single psychedelic experience can lead to an increase in one of the 'Big 5' personality traitsopenness," Evans told Motherboard.

To conduct the study, the researchers collected responses to an online survey from nearly 900 people. The survey asked questions about their experiences with psychedelics and other drugs, personality, their relationship with nature, and their political orientation.

The data suggests a causal relationship between psychedelics and personality change that could help people grow, or even heal from trauma, Evans said. In the study, she and fellow researchers Matthew Nour and Robin Carhart-Harris found a link between using psychedelics and more open personalities.

When tripping, people have often described transcendent mythical states of consciousness and oneness with themselves and others.

When personality becomes more malleable after a psychedelic experience, it's often credited to the "mystical experience"officially defined by feelings of "internal and external unity, transcendence of space and time, ineffability and paradoxicality, sense of sacredness, sense of ultimate reality ('noetic quality'), and deeply felt positive mood. The mystical experience has also led to positive life changes like fewer cigarette cravings, or reduced depression and anxiety.

When tripping, people have often described transcendent mythical states of consciousness and oneness with themselves and others. "In this state the sense of 'self' that pervades normal waking consciousness is reduced, and may disappear completely," Nour wrote over e-mail.

This state is termed "ego dissolution," he explained. "We found that people who reported the most intense past ego dissolution experiences on psychedelics also rated higher on openness, liberalism, and nature-relatedness. This is important because it shows that it may be something about the psychedelic experience itself that is related to these personality traits and attitudes."

Nour is quick to establish that correlation doesn't equal causation, in regard to psychedelics and liberalism. "Our study, for example, is correlational and doesn't provide evidence for a causal link between psychedelics and a certain political viewpoint," he said. He suggests it's possible that liberals may be more likely to try psychedelics in the first place, so it's a self-selecting group.

Still, the researchers found a link between greater ego dissolution during intense psychedelic experiences and their openness, liberalism, and closeness to nature. "Ego dissolution seems to be an important part of the way in which people might change from using psychedelics," Evans said.

The study's findings align with other research on psychedelics, such as a study last summer that looked how how LSD affects language: Tripping can result in a "cascade of associations that allow quicker access to faraway concepts stored in the mind." In this sense, it's possible that psychedelics could help people break outside their regular modes of thought, and the overarching "cognitive metaphors" that frame their political perspectives.

"I think psychedelics break down barriers [and] they do a very good job at reminding us of our tendency to build wallsboth physical and psychologicalaround ourselves and our communities." These substances help people entertain new ideas, serving as catalysts for change and growth, she went on. "This is of course in direct opposition with conservatism, which attempts to keep the traditional and familiar intact."

Interview – Fresh new trance prodigy Shugz – Trance Hub (satire) (press release) (blog)

Posted: at 11:01 pm

Shugz (Christopher Kirkpatrick) is a name that has appeared to come out of nowhere on the Trance scene. Combining youth, energy, electrifyingly impressive deck skills and a notable production ability, it doesnt take long to realise why there is such a fuss around this exceptional talent. Picked up by Irish Trance star Bryan Kearney and later hosting the KEARNAGE podcast, it was then that Shugz got his opportunity to truly shine. Unleashing a blistering remix of Kearneys 2010 Tech-Trance anthem Mexican Rave exclusively for Bryans set at FSOE 400 Mexico, achieving the number 1 spot and sat atop of Beatports Trance top 100 chart for ten consecutive days. We had a chat with Shugz about his upcoming gigs and music

Thanks guys, glad to be involved! Things are good at the moment, keeping my head down in the studio getting ready for the madness of summer on the gig front.

I absolutely love both but an opening DJ slot is definitely more difficult. The importance of a good warmup DJ is essential. Its your job to introduce people to the night properly, build it up from nothing for the DJ who is following you. Its a great skill to have & there isnt enough of them around at the moment sadly. In regards to describing my sound Id say driving & energetic with focus on the unexpected.

Think outside the box. That applies to being in the studio & performing live, people always show more interest in something if its slightly different to the norm, my advice be the first yourself & never the second someone else.

Easy question. Lush, Portrush. The club I grew up in & the club that educated me as a clubber. The best.

Makes the best sense to only commit to an agency/manager when you are needing to take yourself to the next level as an artist. A lot of young guys rush into signing for agencies simply because of what it is, achieving that goal, but its not always beneficial. In the end you & your manager become a team in your development so its only really going to work if you both work together & both have things to offer each other.

With the younger generation these days they are constantly using social media on a daily basis so they get used to it by default, its not very often you see a young DJ/Producer without a Facebook or Twitter page. The best advice I can give is just to be yourself & stay true to the music. Social media is an important part of artist development these days but just be yourself & youll nail that part.

Ah I cannot wait! Youre right in saying its the worlds best, nowhere like it. Anyone in attendance can expect lots of new music & a set from yours truly that you wont be forgetting in a hurry thats for sure.

Amazing. That was an unreal trip & experience. Crowd well up for it & the hospitality was top notch. Couldnt ask for more.

I have a stripped back Tech Trance track that Ive just finished & stamped. The follow up to my own track End Product is coming along great too & also a BIG remix as well. Keeping busy

Thanks Trance Hub readers, hopefully catch a few of you at a gig in the near future. Keep her lit!

ezVision product improves control tower visibility over transportation management tasks, firm says.

By DC Velocity Staff

Logistics technology provider MercuryGate International Inc. today said it has launched a new user interface for its transportation management system (TMS) product that could make the software easier, faster, and more dynamic to use the.

This "ezVision" product provides customers with quick access to the most critical and frequent functions done on a day-to-day basis, creating a workflow that maximizes user efficiency, according to MercuryGate.

The new interface provides a greater level of control tower visibility, supporting fast responses to unplanned requests and reducing the number of clicks or actions required to complete any TMS task, MercuryGate CEO and co-founder Monica Wooden said in a release. The ezVision interface also includes a single, consolidated search screen that searches across execution loads, customer loads, and invoices all at once.

The release is the third update to MercuryGate's platform this year. Earlier in 2017, the company launched a "dynamic information exchange" platform called MercuryMart, which provides TMS users with access to a broad range of sources of available capacity, and unveiled a "logistics integrator program" that connects its TMS users with pre-approved logistics service providers (LSPs) that can advise shippers on tricky supply chain applications.

TMS market to reach $30 billion by 2025, report says – DC Velocity

Technology May 22, 2017

Growth driven by the rise of mobile computing platforms, intermodal transportation, and cloud-based solutions.

By DC Velocity Staff

The global market for transportation management system (TMS) software is on track to reach $30.04 billion by the end of 2025, driven by the rise of mobile computing platforms, intermodal transportation, and cloud-based solutions, a report released Monday shows.

Worldwide revenue in the TMS sector is poised to surge from $9.6 billion in 2016 to a forecast $30.04 billion by the end of 2025, marking a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.6 percent, according to the research firm Transparency Market Research (TMR).

Three trends currently driving that growth are:

However, future growth will be generated by three different factors, TMR found. First, many existing TMS users are looking to upgrade their systems to accommodate mobile computing platforms, since a majority of TMS solutions now running were deployed prior to the proliferation of smartphones and tablets. Other factors driving TMS market expansion are the rise in intermodal transportation and the growing popularity of software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based solutions, the report found.

Despite those beneficial market forces, TMS vendors face several hurdles to continued expansion, including high deployment costs and a lack of awareness by end users about the benefits of upgrading their software capabilities, TMR said.

The global TMS market is dominated by large providers such as SAP SE, Oracle Corp., Descartes Systems Group Inc., JDA Software Group Inc., and Manhattan Associates Inc., TMR said. But the report also identified fast growth of emerging firms, including BluJay Solutions, 3GTMS Inc., One Network Enterprise, Precision Software Inc., and CargoSmart Ltd.

The top end-use application for TMS software was for the dedicated transportation and logistics segment, which generated 67.5 percent of revenue in 2016 and finished above vertical applications in electrical and electronics, industrial, food and beverage, and retail sectors, according to the report, titled "Transportation Management System Market (ApplicationElectrical and Electronics, Industrial, Food and Beverage, Retail, and Transportation and Logistics; Software DeploymentOn-Premise and On-Demand)Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 20172025."

Bob’s guide to TMS: About to invest in a new system? Read this first – Bobsguide (press release)

Posted: at 11:00 pm

Last month, we launched a survey among bobsguide readers who are in the process of procuring a TMS, or have worked with vendors to implement one. Nearly 200 of you responded thank you again for your time giving us illuminating insight into your experiences with treasury management systems and the evolving challenges you face as a treasurer.

Over the next five weeks well be sharing the findings from the survey, and exploring the issues it has uncovered to create a series of articles aimed at helping you with the TMS procurement process, including how to select the right system for your organisation and what you should consider before making your decision.

The series will form the foundation for a comprehensive guide to procuring a new TMS which will be available next month register your interest in receiving the full report at news@bobsguide.com. To whet your appetite, here are three of the surveys most significant findings.

Respondents to the survey included corporate and banking treasurers, though we also received responses from many consultants, analysts, and vendors. The findings that follow reflect the attitudes of the entire sample. On occasion in this article, we have referred to respondents as a whole as treasurers for simplicity.

Being a treasurer today

The majority of respondents to the survey have a TMS. Of the remaining 40% who have not invested, slightly more than half (21%) plan to in the next 12 months, but 19% have no plans at all.

Larger companies are more likely to use a TMS: while less than half (45%) of smaller companies (those with an annual revenue of up to $500m) have a TMS, 79% of larger organisations (taking more than $5bn a year) do. Smaller companies are also, unsurprisingly, far more likely to say that they have no plans to implement a TMS than their larger counterparts; 28% and 4% respectively.

As regulatory pressures and shifting economic conditions promise greater volatility in the near future, and TMS providers develop offering that are perhaps more suited to the pared down needs of smaller organisations, well be interested to see which way the needle moves in coming years.

Overall, satisfaction with treasury management systems is high. 82% of respondents to the survey said that they are at least somewhat satisfied with their TMS, while the remaining 18% say they are either not very satisfied, or not at all satisfied with theirs.

Meanwhile, unsuitable functionality, difficulty of operation and need of an upgrade are some of the most common reasons for dissatisfaction with a TMS. Treasurers also cited systems not being fully utilised, limited capabilities, and difficulty learning to use as reasons for their dissatisfaction.

Treasurers concerns

When it comes to buying a new TMS, treasurers worry most about the potential difficulty of integrating their new solution with existing systems. Of the four options we presented, this was selected most frequently by nearly two-thirds (62%) of respondents. However, treasurers are almost equally worried about the cost of adopting a new system 58% of respondents selected this as one of their premier concern.

In fact, cost was by far the most cited reason among those who have not invested in a TMS for not doing so. 67% of non-TMS owners said that investing in a system would be too expensive, while the next most common reason for not investing, 30 points behind, was finding spreadsheets are sufficient for the needs of the organisation, selected by 37% of respondents.

Other concerns the survey identified included perceived complexity of the treasury management system. One respondent said that their greatest concern was being able to use all of the systems capabilities if your organisation is investing a lot of time and money into a solution, its important that you can take advantage of everything it offers.

Treasurers are also concerned about possible disruption to their everyday business processes during the process of implementation, how long the implementation might take, and not having the adequate and appropriate resources to do so.

We asked respondents to select up to three of their greatest concerns, and found that not far behind lack of cash visibility (cited by 51% of respondents), and FX risk/exposure (41%) was regulatory compliance, cited by 39% of respondents.

With PSD2 and GDPR on the horizon, ensuring compliance with these regulations and avoiding fines will be high on treasurers agendas over the coming months. In the next article of this series, well explore what organisations need to comply with different regulations, and how a treasury management system might help weather the changes.

What do you think of the survey findings so far? Does anything resonate with your experiences? Did you find anything to be unexpected? We invite you to share your comments with us at news@bobsguide.com
