Goatwhore Announce Seventh Album ‘Vengeful Ascension’ + Unveil Title Track – Loudwire
Posted: May 4, 2017 at 3:34 pm
Metal Blade
Album number seven is on its way from Goatwhore! Vengeful Ascension will see a June 23 release date and the discs title track can be streamed right now!
Goatwhore have been one of extreme metals most reliable modern bands for well over a decade. Each album released by the NOLA quartet has brought forceful and blasphemous cuts in the style of blackened death metal, and if Vengeful Ascension is any indication of whats to come, you can expect another ripper from Goatwhore.
Vengeful Ascension will be the first Goatwhore record released without Erik Rutan behind the soundboard since 2003s Funeral Dirge for the Rotting Sun. Working with Rutan was awesome, says Goatwhore frontmanBen Falgoust. We did some great records with him. But you come to a point where youre like, All right. Lets try something new. It was part of trying to remove ourselves from a comfort zone and a risk thing we needed to take. Plus, we really wanted to hit the essence of where we are live and what better way to harness that than by having our live sound guy involved. Jarrett [Pritchard] is knowledgeable with the studio stuff. He also knows how we sound coming out of a PA and we really wanted to get closer to that.
As for the 10 tracks to be found within Vengeful Ascension, Falgoust explains, Each song is a representation of Goatwhore from day one until now. It really shows our evolution as a band. I dont think that this band has reached its peak yet. I mean, I think were closer now than ever but were still growing; were still evolving.
Vengeful Ascension will explore the Luciferian concept of Satan as an emancipator and guiding light rather than the epitome of evil. Theres that whole idea of Lucifer being the anti-hero, elaborates Falgoust. Hes cast out from this place in Heaven to the depths of nothing. He keeps trying to ascend to the top again but no matter what, theres always this significant force trying to destroy him at any point and banish him back to Hell. If you look at it from an everyday aspect in life, its the idea of people, hitting the bottom of the barrel or you know, things just arent going right in life emotion plays a huge part in how people react. Whether its based on love or hatred or sadness or whatever, theres always an aspect of emotion that drives people to an extent. So the whole idea of a Vengeful Ascension is built on being at the bottom, working your way to the top, and realizing along the way that theres other facets to the journey aside from just pure retribution. Within negativity there can exist a positive angle as well.
Goatwhores seventh album is already available for pre-order at the Metal Blade shop with a bunch of bundle and multicolored vinyl options ready for your consumption. Check out the albums title track and track listing below. Goatwhore are currently on tour opening for Amon Amarth in North America, so be sure to catch those remaining dates!

Three of the four semifinal teams for the Division IV state playoff tournament in Sulphur have been set.
Thursday, No. 11 Ascension Episcopal is going to try and book that last spot.
The Blue Gators take on No. 3 Covenant Christian at home on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. after upsetting No. 6 Hanson Memorial in the Regional round, with whomthey split the regular season district matchup.
Ascension Episcopal coach Lonny Landry said he wasn't worried about his team being too confident after the first-round upset after treating the season like professionals throughout the year.
"One thing about the team this year, they've been pretty even-keeled the entire year," Landry said. "It's what I've tried to preach, don't get too high or too low."
PREP BASEBALL:Patriots ride senior leadership to quarters
Landry said the Blue Gators pulled off the upset behind a good performance on the mound by Sean Michael Brady, who gave up five total runs but only three earned, and kept plugging away despite going down early on.
"We continued to play clean baseball after the second inning," Landry said. "We had quality at-bats throughout the game, but we had the right patience in the ninth. Seth Kerstetter tied it up and we got four more in that same inning."
The offense at Ascension Episcopal has been particularly impressive this season, led by future Ragin' Cajun Jeffery Elkins.
Elkins finished the season with a truly outrageous stat line after hitting .652 with 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 59 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.

As a team, Ascension Episcopal scored 313 runs this season only behind the team it plays on Thursday in Covenant Christian who scored 331 runs as a team this season.
"I think this is the best offensive team we've had at Ascension one through nine in the batting order," Landry said. "One way or the other they are going to be productive whatever it might be, even getting hit by a pitcher. All the guys contribute.
"I've scouted (Covenant Christian) and they are not the three seed by accident. At this point int he bracket everybody is as good as everybody else."
Unlike in other brackets, the quarterfinals remain a one-game, do-or-die elimination situation for Division IV teams.
Landry said he hasn't ever done anything else in the playoffs so he didn't mind the one-game playoff format.
"It's tough. I've never had a three-game series. It's do-or-die at this point," Landry said. "I think with the single game elimination every pitch is just a little more important."

Baseball playoffs: Ascension Catholic cruises past Catholic-PC 10-1 to reach Division IV semifinals – The Advocate

DONALDSONVILLE First, they rejoiced in unison with a celebratory leap in center field.
Then they joined their joyous home crowd at La La Regira Field.
After three straight state quarterfinal setbacks, No. 4 Ascension Catholic reveled in the moment following its 10-1 Division IV quarterfinal victory Tuesday over No. 5 Catholic-Pointe Coupee.
For three years in a row we were stuck in the quarterfinals, and we finally got over that hump, said Ascension Catholic shortstop Nick Bellina, who contributed a grand slam. It feels great to be where were at.
The Bulldogs (21-12) clinched a berth in the state tournament for the first time since 2009. They will meet No. 1 Central Catholic-Morgan City, a 7-1 winner over Ascension Christian, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at McMurray Park in Sulphur.
This group of seniors have been working since our freshman year, Ascension Catholic pitcher Landon Clifton said. The last two years we lost here and it hurt. We put in the work this week and finally got through it.
Clifton (10-3) pitched into the seventh before leaving because of stiffness in his back. He yielded four hits, walked three and struck out eight in an 81-pitch outing before David Girior got the final two outs.
He threw well, Ascension Catholic coach Todd Landry said. We didnt want to risk anything in the end. There was no reason to push it with a nine-run lead.
Ascension Catholic was clinging to a 2-1 lead after Catholic-Pointe Coupee (19-13) scored its lone run in the fourth on Walker Castles RBI groundout.
The Bulldogs, who won their fifth straight game, left no doubts about their state tournament intentions by answering with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Catholic-PC had one of its four errors in the inning, leading to six unearned runs and nine overall.
Catholic-PC first-year coach Drew Leonard declined comment afterward.
Ascension Catholic made it 3-1 on Rodney Blanchards RBI groundout when the Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs, and Bellina, an LSU-Eunice signee, launched his fourth homer of the season on a 2-1 offering from losing pitcher Samuel Grezzafi.
Grezzafi allowed four hits and five runs (none earned), walked two and struck out one.
I was thinking he was going to throw a curveball and I sat back and hit it over the fence, Bellina said. It felt good. It felt like a relief off our shoulders.
The Bulldogs tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth on Mason Zerangues RBI double and a fielding error.
Weve been working for it since my freshman year, and we finally got through it, Clifton said. It feels great.

St. Amant High School seniors Andres Barletta and Sam Bergeron were the highest-placing Ascension Parish angling team in the 2017 Louisiana High School Bass Tournament. The pair finished in sixth place out of 86 boats in the tournament that was held April 29.
The 86 boats had the choice of fishing either Lake Verret or the Atchafalaya Basin. Barletta and Bergeron opted for the basin side of the levee, even with the high water. That high water actually turned out to be to their advantage as the team worked over the water hyacinths around cypress trees with a spinner bait and a Missle D Bomb to catch most of their fish.
After filling their limit of spillway bass with those two baits, the decision to throw a Senko plastic paid off in spades as a 4.62 lunker made its way to the live well and took third place honors for big bass. The team weighed five bass for 11.72 pounds and a sixth-place finish for the day.

NASA Marshall’s Paul McConnaughey Runs Toward Challenges of Space Exploration – PR Newswire (press release)
Posted: at 3:32 pm
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Exploration is all about experiencing new challenges, and Dr. Paul McConnaugheywould know. He's found a way to explore and discover new environments both professionally and personally.
Years of running and biking, of training for and recovering from marathons, duathlons, 5Ks and adventure runs around the world even on the Great Wall of China have given him a keen appreciation for planning, discipline and teamwork. All qualities he has used for more than 30 years in his day job at NASA helping guide the nation's space program.
He'll be sharing his sense of adventure of the space variety with other avid travelers during this week's Travel Blogger Exchange (TBEX) conference at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. It's all about chasing the challenge, experiencing different cultures and seeking out new experiences that keeps him going.
"Every day is different," said McConnaughey, the associate director, technical, in the Office of the Center Director at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. He's been in the position since August 2015, serving as Marshall's chief technical officer, working to keep the talented teams at the center focused on delivering high-quality engineering capabilities, space systems, scientific research and emerging technologies.
That big picture role is particularly interesting now, as testing of flight hardware is underway at Marshall for NASA's Space Launch System the most powerful rocket in the world, designed to carry astronauts and equipment on exploration missions deeper into space than ever before, paving the way for our Journey to Mars. It's an exciting time in the space industry.
McConnaughey didn't imagine a career in space exploration but was intrigued by the sciences as he grew up in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, a small town near Lake Michigan. His interests led him to earth and environmental sciences and to classes at the University of Montana in Missoula, then at Oregon State University in Corvallis, where he earned a bachelor's degree in soil science. McConnaughey received a fellowship to study at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and earned both master's and doctoral degrees.
He taught mathematics and soil physics for three years at Mississippi State University in Starkville, then got the opportunity to put his graduate school experience in computational fluid dynamics to use on spaceships instead of soil.
"You think, 'What do I want to do with the rest of my life? Go on and publish papers? Or do I want to go and actually create space hardware?'" McConnaughey said. "That ended up being a no-brainer space hardware."
He joined Marshall in 1986 as an engineer in the Systems Dynamics Laboratory, and has since worked on space vehicle technologies of joint interest to NASA and the U.S. Air Force. He's also served in the Exploration Systems Development Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington, where he oversaw the integration of SLS, the Orion spacecraft and Ground Support Development and Operations programs.
Through it all McConnaughey has been an avid runner and traveler. He was a finisher in the 2012 Boston Marathon, and in March was part of a team of 12 from Marshall completing a 195-mile relay race from Chattanooga to Nashville.
After a year of training, McConnaughey and his wife, Angie, trekked to the 20,200-foot summit of Stok Kangri in northern India, and three days later ran a marathon through dusty, high desert trails. They are now planning and training for a bicycle camping adventure along North America's Great Divide, from Banff, Canada, to Mexico a 2,700 mile trip.
"Training and qualifying for an event like this is similar to running a NASA project. You set a goal and a plan, work with a disciplined and diligent team, then execute," McConnaughey said. "Making the decision to participate is exciting and so is the event itself, but you've got the pain in between. There are a lot of things we do in NASA that are like that. All the hard stuff occurs in the middle, the essential 'grunge work' of development, testing and retesting, and we do that very well at Marshall."
Developing the knowledge, tools and vehicles for successful space travel is certainly difficult, but never boring. SLS will enable human exploration missions to deep space, and that's exciting even by NASA's cosmic standards.
"I'm here because I love my job. I feel like I can have a significant influence on the future of Marshall and the agency," McConnaughey said. "And, more importantly, to pass the torch to the next generation. Ultimately, a job is about the people you impact in your life, who they are and what they do after you're gone."

A source familiar with the PLA said: "The PLA is teaching Korean to soldiers near the North Korean border in case North Korean refugees start flocking into China if a military conflict arises between the US and North Korea.
"Korean lessons are known to be happening throughout the Chinese-North Korea border given by ethnic Koreans living in China as instructors."
China fought on North Koreas side against South Korea, the US and Britain during the Korean War in the 1950s.
There were fears China would back its communist ally if war broke out again pulling in NATO and risking a worldwide conflict.
The US used amphibious craft to invade the Korean port of Incheon in 1950. The invasion changed the course of the war, and the Americans swiftly pushed back the North Korean troops and lberated Seoul

But the phrases being learned point more to stopping people at the border.
This may be more evidence China is preparing to drop its support for Kims regime.
Since 2008, photographer Eric Lafforgue ventured to North Korea six times. Thanks to digital memory cards, he was able to save photos that was forbidden to take inside the segregated state

THE United States could be facing a bombing attack from a very unexpected source as fears of global conflict reach fever pitch.

Turkey has said US troops in Syria could be bombed by its airforce in a shock announcement that leaves Donald Trump with the prospect of war on two fronts.
Ilnur Cevik, a senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said American forces should watch their step in Syria or face the consequences.
Cevik argued that US troops working in coalition with Kurdish forces, Turkey's fierce enemy, would fire indiscriminately if Kurdish and US troops strayed into Turkish-controlled zones.

If they go too far, our forces would not care if American armour is there
"[If they] go too far, our forces would not care if American armour is there, whether armoured carriers are there," he said.
All of a sudden, by accident, a few rockets can hit them.
Asked to clarify if his comments meant that US presence in Syria would be in danger from Turkish airstrikes, Cevik said bluntly that they would.
The Presidential adviser later took to Twitter to backtrack on his comments.
Turkey has never and will never hit its allies anywhere, and that includes the U.S. in Syria, he tweeted.

The US have contraversially began installing the THAAD anti-ballistic missile system on South Korea in a bid to nip Kim Jong-un's budding nuclear capability in the bud. The move has seen tensions between the US and North Korea soar to new heights

A bomb attack from Turkey could spell disaster for the US in the Middle East as tensions are still escalated from Donald Trump's attack on a Syrian government base last month.
Trump could face war on two fronts with war with North Korea also a possibility.
Both the President and Kim Jong-un have been engaged in a fierce war of words and have also conducted large-scale military exercises.

The Truth About What Psychedelics Do to Your Brain …
Posted: at 3:31 pm
Tom McKay, PolicyMicWaking Times
Scientists Studied What Psychedelics Do to the Brain, and Its Not What Youve Been Told
It turns out that psychedelics arent just good forturning into an elf and jousting a car. Psychiatrists, psychologists and specialists in addiction and recovery from traumatic experiences have been investigating the use of hallucinogens in treatment programs, and the results indicate that psychedelics actually have practical therapeutic uses. And one drug has proven particularly useful.Repeated studies have found the psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms, psilocybin, can help people move past major life issues like beating alcoholism and becoming more empathetic.
The research:One study concluded that controlled exposure to psilocybin could havelong-lasting medical and spiritual benefits. In 2011,Johns Hopkins researchers found that by giving volunteer test subjects just the right dose (not enough to give them a terrifying bad trip), they were able to reliably induce transcendental experiences in volunteers. This provoked long-lasting psychological growth and helped the volunteers to find peace in their lives, all without side effects. Nearly all of the 18 test subjects, average age 46, were college graduates. Seventy-eight percent were religious and all were interested in finding a scientific experience.
Fourteen months later, 94% said their trip on magic mushrooms was one of the five most important moments of their lives. Thirty-nine percent said it was the most important thing that had ever happened to them. Their colleagues, friends, and family members said the participants were kinder and happier; the volunteers had positive experiences ranging from more empathy and improved marriages to less drinking.
Whats more, the researchers say that those changes in personality are highly atypical, because personalities tend to be pretty set in stone after the age of 25-30.Accordingto postdoctoral researcher Katherine MacLean, who contributed to the study, This is one of the first studies to show that you actually can change adult personality.
Many years later, people are saying it was one of the most profound experiences of their life, she continued. If you think about it in that context, its not that surprising that it might be permanent.
This is strictly do-not-try-this-at-home. Macleansaysthat in an unsupervised setting, if that sort of fear or anxiety set in, the classic bad trip, it could be pretty dangerous. But On the most speculative side, this suggests that there might be an application of psilocybin for creativity or more intellectual outcomes that we really havent explored at all.
More research:Within the past few decades, interest in hallucinogens has expanded from the counter-culture to dedicated, methodological research. For example, another study published in 2010conducted research into whether psilocybin can lend some comfort to terminal cancer patients finding evidence that it reduced death anxiety and experienced significantly less depression.Accordingto study researcher Dr. Charles Grob, Individuals did speak up and tell us that they felt it was of great value. NYUs Dr. Stephen Ross, who conducted a similar study, told SCPRthat To me its been some of the most remarkable clinical findings Ive ever seen as a psychiatrist.
Psychologist Clark Martin, Ph.D., who participated in the study as a volunteer, describes his experience below:
As well as participant Janeen Delaney:
As a result of the studies, a jointUCLA, NYU and Johns Hopkins team is conducting large-scale phase three trial next year.
Cluster headache patients say (with the backing of some doctors) that psilocybin and LSD provide them withsignificant relief, which researchers argue need further study.
A 2012 study published in theBritish Journal of Psychiatryfound evidencethat psilocybin enhances autobiographical recollection, suggesting psychiatric uses in the recall of salient memories or to reverse negative cognitive biases. Areviewof the pyschiatric research performed on psilocybin concluded that the risks of therapy were acceptable and that most subjects described the experience as pleasurable, enriching and non-threatening. And this year, Zrichresearchersreleased a studyin which they administered psilocybin to 25 volunteers. The treatment was found to be associated with an increase of positive mood in healthy volunteers.
So basically, theres at least some hard evidence that this:
Has the potential to be helpful, leading to introspection, self-reflection, and relief from psychiatric conditions.
Other drugs:Other illegal drugs have been linked to positive psychological outcomes. Trials with MDMA have hadpositive resultsin patients suffering from PTSD.Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies founder Rick Doblin, who works with Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, discusses why MDMA might be the first psychedelic to open the door into traditional psychiatry and psychology:
So why isnt there more evidence? The federal government is only now beginning to loosen its restrictions on medical uses of mind-altering substances, and its doing so very cautiously. In 2013, a group of psychiatristsreleaseda review saying government restrictions made even researching psychoactive drugs difficult and in many cases almost impossible.
