Artificial intelligence developer contest puts Alexa to the test – Healthcare IT News

Amazon Web Services and Merck announced a developer competition on Monday to that plans to harness artificial intelligence for diabetics.

Dubbed the Alexa Diabetes Challenge, and powered by Luminary Labs, the contest aims to incent upstarts and individual developers to create apps that harness Amazons Alexa voice-enabled technologies particularly for patients recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Early adopters such as Penn Medicine and Commonwealth Care Alliance are already running proofs-of-concept or pilot programs with Amazon Alexa being the centerpiece of improving patient experience.

Whats more, a new Healthcare IT News and HIMSS Analytics HIT Market Indicator report found that half of hospitals intend to adopt some fashion of AI in five years and more than a third plan to do so within two years.

The Amazon and Merck contest enables innovators to use not only Alexa but also Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure.

Five entrants will be chosen in the first round. Those winners will collect $25,000 and 100,000 AWS credits apiece and move into the Virtual Accelerator to access mentors as they work to transform the initial concepts into real solutions, the companies said.

The accelerator work will culminate with the finalists presenting their apps to judges in a pop-up AWS loft in New York City, after which the winner will be awarded $125,000.

At the end of the Virtual Accelerator, finalists will present their solutions in-person to the judges at Demo Day at the AWS Pop-up loft in NYC.

Submissions take place at alexadiabeteschallenge.com and close on May 22, 2017.

A piece of digital art by Alexander Reben, an artist and roboticist interested in human-machine relationships. He ran an episode of Bob Ross' classic painting show through an artificial learning machine that tried to find images that are not there.

Alexander Reben is an artist and roboticist interested in the relationship between humans and machines. Recently, he ran an episode of Bob Ross classic public television painting show The Joy of Painting through an artificial learning system. The machine tried to find images that werent there. As Reben puts it:

This artwork represents what it would be like for an AI to watch Bob Ross on LSD (once someone invents digital drugs). It shows some of the unreasonable effectiveness and strange inner workings of deep learning systems. The unique characteristics of the human voice are learned and generated as well as hallucinations of a system trying to find images which are not there.

The results, overlaid over the original episode with clipped audio, are hypnotic and disturbing. The resulting five-minute video is on Vimeo as Deeply Artificial Trees.

Researchers highlight the 'dark side' ofAI and question whether humanity can ever truly understand its most advanced creations

WHAT sets humansapart from machines is the speed at which we can learn from our surroundings.

But scientists have successfully trained computers to use artificial intelligence to learn from experience and one day they could be smarter than their creators.

Now scientists have admitted they are already baffled by the mechanical brains they have built, raising the prospect that we could lose control of them altogether.

Computers are already performing incredible feats such as driving cars and predicting diseases but their makers say they arent entirely in control of their creations.

This could have catastrophic consequences for civilisation, tech experts have warned.

Take thestrange driverless car which appeared on the streets of New Jersey, US, last year.

It differed fromGoogle, Tesla or Ubers autonomous vehicles, which follow the rules set by tech developers to react to scenarios while on the road.

This car couldmake its own decisions after watching how humans learnt how to drive.

And itscreators, researchers at chip making company Nvidia (who supply some of the biggest car makers with supercomputer chips), said they werent 100 per cent sure how it did so, MIT Technology Review reported.

Its mysterious mind could be a sign of dark times to come, sceptics fear.

The cars underlying technology, dubbed deep learning, is a powerful tool for solving problems.

It helps us tag our friends on Facebook, provides assistance on our smartphones using Siri, Cortana or Google.

Deep learning has helpedcomputers get better at recognising objects than a person.

The military is pouring millions into the technology so it can be used to steer ships, control drones and destroy targets.

And theres hope it will be able to diagnose deadly diseases, make traders billionaires by reading the stock market and totally transform the world we live in.

But if we dont make sure creators have a full understanding of how it works, were in deep trouble, scientists claim.

Scientists have been training computers how to learn, like humans, since the 1970s.

But recent advances in data storage mean that the process has sped up exponentially in recent years.

Interest in the field hit a peak when Google paid hundreds of millions to buy a British deep learning company in 2015.

Coined machine learning or a neural network, deep learning is effectively training a computer so it can figure out natural language and instructions.

Its fed information and is then quizzed on it, so it can learn, similarly to a child in the early years at at school.

If they cant figure out how the algorithms (the formulaswhich keep computers performing the tasks we ask them to do) work, they wont be able to predict when they fail.

Tommi Jaakkola, a professor at MIT who works on applications of machine learning warns: If you had a very small neural network [deep learning algorithm], you might be able to understand it.

But once it becomes very large, and it has thousands of units per layer and maybe hundreds of layers, then it becomes quite un-understandable.

That means a driverless car, like Nvidias, could soar headfirst into a tree and we would have no idea why it decided to do so.

Just imagine if artificial intelligence was given control of the stock market or military systems.

Another computer was also tasked with analysing patient records to predict disease.

Joel Dudley, who led the project at New Yorks Mount Sinai Hospital, said the machine was inexplicably good at recognising schizophrenia but no-one knew why.

We can build these models, but we dont know how they work, he said.

Several big technology firms have been asked to be more transparent about how they create and apply deep learning.

This includes Google, which said it would create an AI ethics boardbut has kept mysteriously quiet about its existence.

A top Britishastronomer recently warnedthat humans will be wiped outby robots who will take over the earth in a matter of centuries.

He claims aliens could already be remnants of a human-like civilisation which have evolved into artificially intelligent machines.

Half of hospitals to adopt artificial intelligence within 5 years – Healthcare IT News

About 35 percent of healthcare organizations plan to leverage artificial intelligence within two years and more than half intend to do so within five.

Thats according to the Healthcare IT News and HIMSS Analytics HIT Market Indicator: Artificial Intelligence.

If you look at those with plans to leverage AI in some way, shape or form, were going to see significant growth, said Brendan FitzGerald, director of research at HIMSS Analytics.

While only 4.7 percent of the 85 survey respondents are already using AI technologies, the future looks promising. Indeed, 10.6 percent plan to adopt them within 12 months, 23.5 percent indicated they will within two years and another 24.7 percent in three to five years.

Participants ranked population health, clinical decision support, patient diagnosis and precision medicine, respectively, as the top places AI will have the most substantial initial impact.

Other areas include hospital and physician workflow, security, revenue cycle and drug discovery.

As with most emerging technologies, of course, there are barriers to adopting AI. Chief among those is the feeling that AI technologies are still in early stages of development and a difficulty understanding the immediate opportunities.

There are a number of technologies that require considerable fine-tuning for the healthcare space and I dont think AI is any different, FitzGerald said.

FitzGerald cautioned that vendors will be trying to keep pace with the AI gold rush the way many did with population health and telemedicine to show theyre on top of the latest and greatest technologies in healthcare and ahead of where people are going, even some who are not actually AI companies.

Once the industry has a handle on how to implement AI at the point of care, Fitzgerald said, the ability for AI to present clear and present opportunities may escalate adoption.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a huge impact on businesses in a variety of industries, including high tech. ServiceMax, a company that provides cloud-based field service software to help organizations manage contracts, scheduling, and parts, is a case in point.

"We're constantly exploring different options and paths to incorporate artificial intelligence and machine learning into our product offering," said Indresh Satyanarayana, chief architect at ServiceMax, which was acquired by GE Digital in November 2016 to enhance is Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) capabilities in field service.

"For the field service industry in particular, AI holds interesting implications for changing how we operate our businesses," Satyanarayana said. "We already see the practical applicability in many different areas of AI -- from enabling natural language processing in our mobile applications to realizing autonomous field work by enabling AI-based decision making."

In servicing equipment and keeping it running right, AI has the ability to directly impact how field technicians complete jobs and managers optimize work processes, Satyanarayana said.

The creation of a product that leverages AI and machine learning faces a host of challenges, however. Understanding how humans and machines can work together is never going to be easy, Satyanarayana said.

"AI and machine learning concepts operate at a fundamental level in product and feature design, and can sometimes lead to false positives if the data being fed into it isn't robust," Satyanarayana said. "We can't treat those concepts as peripheral utilities or one-trick ponies. Instead, we must take a holistic view of how we can enable them in our products."

In addition, AI and machine learning take a somewhat tangential approach compared with conventional software design and development. "The mindset shift has to happen sooner," he said.

AI has been gaining buzz for many months, but before jumping in headfirst into it, companies need to consider a few different areas of their business and whether AI will work for them, Satyanarayana said.

"The success of AI counts on the quality of the data that's fed through its system, but the magnitude, depth, and heterogeneity of it gets multiplied in the context of field service," Satyanarayana said. "No two businesses execute their processes in the same way -- especially in field service -- so it's important to make sure that your data is understood in a particular context and the insights derived from it can cater to both the process and the business."

Furthermore, individuals with different roles come and go through the flow of AI-supported programs, whether that's technicians in the field with mobile devices, back office users, dispatchers, or others. "Even machines are connected to enterprise systems" via the Internet of Things (IoT), Satyanarayana said. "It's difficult to make the engagement across all of these moving parts optimized based on continuous feedback mechanisms."

Finally, because decisions are made on account of data, making sure the decisions made by AI are accurate is crucial. "It impacts the evolution of field service organizations, whether that's how a field tech is dispatched or whether a larger business process is deployed," Satyanarayana said.

"These decisions must be made by an intelligent system, even if it's artificial. So, while enterprise data is valuable, it's tough to make computers process data the same way that people do. It takes a major mindset change that isn't always straightforward for organizations."

Saskatchewan gymnast Gagnon finds immortality in a name and a skill – Saskatoon StarPhoenix

Saskatchewans Joel Gagnon, unlike the rest of us, has his own move.

Its documented, codified, immortalized. People all over the world are trying it; theyre sending him video links via Instagram.

Try it sometime: Head to the closest parallel bars, and perform, as the International Gymnastics Federation puts it, a basket roll backwards with tuck salto half to upper arm hang.

Youve just performed The Gagnon named by the federation after its inventor, a kid from Saskatchewan, and placed into the mens gymnastics Code of Points.

Someone came up to me this weekend, relates Gagnon, a third-year gymnast with the University of Minnesota Gophers who is freshly returned from the Big 10 championship.(He was) one of the photographers, and he said, Ive been shooting that skill all season. I didnt realize it was named after you. Its one of those little comments that make you happy. You know its kind of a big deal.

Gagnon, who grew up in Regina before moving to Saskatoon to train with the Taiso Gymnastics Club in Grades 11 and 12, is the first Saskatchewan gymnast to have a skill named after him.

He invented it late last summer, while working on a different skill at a gym in Montreal. He was having difficulties, and made his own variation an extra half twist, instead of an extra flip, and that moved it off the books and into uncharted territory.

I was lucky enough to be scheduled to go to my first World Cup in Hungary a month and a half after that, he says. It was pretty good timing, if I could master the skill quickly. I knew there was a chance of getting it named after me. It all happened pretty fast. Before I knew it, I was competing in Hungary, and now its named after me.

Before Gagnon could perform the unknown move in competition, it had to be submitted to meet officials. They gave it a difficulty value of C, which carries a points score of 0.3.

Later, it went to a technical committee at the International Gymnastics Federation. Last week, they announced that The Gagnon is one of eight new elements, all performed at World Cup events in 2016 and 2017, to be published in the mens Code of Points.

It is a way, the Federation noted in its preamble, of achieving immortality in gymnastics. The gymnast who has an original skill named after them in the Code of Points assures that his or her name will live on in the sport, years after they have taken their final bows on the international stage.

Its incredible, says Gagnon, an aspiring Olympian and aerospace engineer who is also on Canadas national gymnastics team.

Its almost surreal to have my named attached to something that will be in the Code of Points forever. I can say I left a legacy, or my mark, on the sport in some way. Its something you dream about, but its not something you think will ever happen, because you have to have the stars align in the right way you come up with a skill, and are able to compete it at the high level required to get it named after you.

Gagnon is now working to refine the element. Since introducing it, hes done the move with legs tucked, but hes now trying it with legs splayed. Hes been using it just about every weekend at NCAA competitions.

He laughs when asked to evaluate that first public display of The Gagnon, at the Szombathely World Challenge Cup in Hungary.

It was the best anyones ever done it, he said wryly. It wasnt perfect. It was clean, well-executed. I could have had a bit more rotation on it, so theres still improvement, which is good.

Gagnon, who first started in the sport as a four-year-old in Regina, remains a Taiso member while working towards his goal of competing at the 2020 Olympics and, maybe, of using his element there.

Hes juggling all that, and his aerospace engineering studies, while noting that they do have at least one thing in common.

Both of them are very challenging, Gagnon said. Anytime youre learning something new in the gym, theres a lot of analysis going on what can I do to fix this; what can I do to catch this release move or stick this landing? It takes a lot of patience, a lot of time, a lot of thought, a lot of dedication, a time commitment. Both (gymnastics and engineering) have those same trends.

With all that said, he continues to work on a variation of The Gagnon. Perhaps, he muses, he can try another new element in international competition, and theyll immortalize The Gagnon 2.

Ill still try to innovate, to be creative and maybe get another skill one day, he says.

ABANDONED HISTORY: Alternative medicine in the Lockport area – Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

At a time of little knowledge, when medicine was searching for answers how to help those needing care, several local healers were offering their assistance. In the 1880s, physicians were not licensed and traditional medicine was not yet organized. In the present day, their treatments would be considered alternative medicine. Here is some information about two such practitioners in late 19th century Niagara County.

Professor Wamon

Professor Wamon, the "magnetic healer," was based at the Magnetic Institute, 74 Walnut St., Lockport, in the 1880s. He traveled to local towns including Wilson, Somerset, Lyndonville and Medina, offering magnetic healing to those in need. An ad in the Lockport Journal, 1889, titled "Professor Wamons Public Healing!," listed his many skills. The report also mentioned:

He is certainly endowed with an astonishing and phenomenal healing gift, and thesebold, public exhibitions of his beneficent power, have now placed its absolutegenuineness and the reality of his singular cures beyond all doubt. The cures witnessedand carefully investigated by our reporter, he asserts, exceed in marvelousness any of theapparently incredible testimonials that have been so often advertised in the Journal in the past.

Further on in the advertisement, there are many stories of his miracle cures in local towns. Here is an example from Newfane:

Mrs. Hern lay on a sofa and had long been unable to walk from inflammatoryrheumatism. Within five seconds, she started up, ran and leaped several times,and next day amazed everybody by walking to church.

The belief was that as the professor placed his hands on the patient, magnetic radiation energy was passed from his hands through the patient's body, assisting in the healing process.

Magnetic healing was promoted as a drug-free approach to cures. The drugs that were available and utilized by traditional physicians at the time could be dangerous to your health.

Wamon was practicing his healing skills at a time when colleges, the government and the American Medical Association (AMA) were trying to standardize and license doctors, as there were many paths to becoming a doctor and many medical schools, some of questionable quality. The professor who never claimed to be a physician avoided this scrutiny.

Dr. Daniel Lester

According to city directories, Dr. Daniel Lester practiced in the Lockport area from the 1880s onward, with his first Electro-Medicated Bath at 144 Washburn St. Eventually in 1887, his facility, now named the Electro Therapeutic Bath, moved to 131 Church St. at Green Street. This large sandstone building is listed in an Index of Stone Buildings, which indicates that the house was once the residence of Patrick J. Hopkins, a blacksmith. S. Parmele and and Dr. Lester are also named as past owners. The listing, compiled by Teresa Lasher, can be found at the Niagara County Historian's Office.

Lester was educated at the Virginia Eclectic Medical College in Philadelphia. As an eclectic physician, Lester would have been trained in the use of non-traditional medicine. Eclectic physicians considered themselves open to a plan of treatment that would fit the patient; they were educated in the use of herbal medicines and alternative practices, which contrasted with the mainstream allopathic medicine of the time.

Lester also offered Electro-Therapeutic Baths as a treatment. These baths could range from an old-time tanning bed to a battery-powered machine producing low-level electric current through sponges placed on the body. They could also involve the use of hot and cold water and vapor.

Eclectic medicine was a reaction against established medical treatments of the era and there were many eclectic medical schools, some legitimate with a prescribed course of study and others which have been now labeled diploma mills. The last eclectic medical school closed in 1939. Before medical education was research-based, with schools certified and physicians licensed, much of the education was of unquantifiable quality.

As traditional medicine struggled with a questionable reputation, there developed a market for alternative healers. In early Lockport, Rattlesnake John sold boiled-down snake fat as a cure for rheumatism and other ailments. Doctor Dean the Sweat Doctor and Dr. Knapp practiced hydrotherapy and operated a water cure just up the street from Dr. Lesters Electro Therapeutic Baths. Sleights Mineral Baths was a few blocks away. Teasdill the charm doctor and many others operated in the city as well.

In 1905, Dr. Lester and his wife Mary are listed in the city directory as living at 186 Green St., just up the street from his Electro-Therapeutic Baths.

They would say that, wouldnt they? This bon mot has been attributed, not entirely correctly, to Mandy Rice-Davies giving witness in the Profumo affair. During the trial of Stephen Ward, the defence counsel pointed out that Lord Astor denied having had an affair with Mandy, and she laughed it off by replying: Well, he would, wouldnt he? In a way, her rhetorical question aptly highlights some of the issues related to conflicts of interest that abound in medical research.

When a researcher publishes a paper in a medical journal, (s)he must disclose all conflicts of interest that he might have. The aim of this exercise is to be as transparent as possible; if someone has received support from a commercial company, for example, it does not necessarily mean that his/her paper is biased. Yet it is nevertheless important to be transparent so that we can make up our own minds.

The questionnaires that authors are being asked to complete prior to publication of their article focus almost exclusively on financial issues. For instance, one must disclose any sponsorship, fees, travel support or ownership of shares. In conventional medicine, these matters are deemed to be the most important sources for potential conflicts of interest.

In my field, alternative medicine, financial issues are usually thought to be far less critical; it is generally seen as an area where there is so little money that it is hardly worth bothering. Perhaps this is the reason why many journals of alternative medicine do not even insist on declarations of conflicts of interests and few authors disclose them.

After having been a full-time researcher of alternative medicine for more than two decades, I agree that, in this field, financial interests are often negligible. Yet I have become convinced that conflicts of a different nature are at least as prevalent and potentially more powerful. Sure, there is less money at stake, but this fact is more than compensated by non-financial issues. Quasi-evangelical convictions abound in alternative medicine, and it is, I think, obvious that they can amount to significant conflicts of interest.

During their training, alternative practitioners learn many things which are unproven, have no basis in fact or are just plainly wrong. Eventually this education or is it brain-washing? creates a belief system to which practitioners adhere, regardless of the scientific evidence, and which they tend to defend at all cost.

Moreover, this belief is indivisibly linked to more existential issues. In alternative medicine, there may not be huge amounts of money at stake, but any criticism or challenge nevertheless has the potential to endanger an alternative practitioners livelihood. And this creates a situation which is fundamentally different from conventional medicine. If someone published evidence to show that a new drug is ineffective, most GPs would simply use another one. If, however, someone demonstrates that acupuncture is a placebo, acupuncturists would automatically fear for their cash flow.

In other words, in alternative medicine, such conflicts of interest tend to be very acute, powerful and personal. Consequently, enthusiasts of alternative medicine are often incapable or unwilling to look upon criticism as anything other than an attack on their income, their beliefs, their status, or their person.

When chiropractors deny that neck manipulations carry a risk, when herbalists insist that traditional herbalism is based on good evidence, when homeopaths claim that their remedies are more than placebos, when acupuncturists tell us that meridians, yin and yang are real and evidence-based, we should ask who, in these often fiery and emotional debates, might have a conflict of interest. Who might have an interest that might directly benefit his or her income? Who is more likely to be objective, the person whose belief is being challenged and whose livelihood is endangered, or the independent expert who studied the subject in depth but has no axe to grind? If you ask such questions, you might end up concluding: They would say that, wouldnt they?

Acupuncture for animals: Veterinarian brings alternative medicine to … – CBC.ca

When you step into Dr. Linda Hamilton's medical office in Winnipeg, you won't find any metal tables or white coats.

"This is the best treatment in the world because we hang out with our patients either on the couch or on the floor," says Hamilton.

That's because Hamilton is a veterinarian who provides alternative medicine services for animals.

That's right it's acupuncture for animals, among other services.

Hamilton opened Natural Healing Veterinary Care in November of 2006. She is a Western-trained veterinarian but she has been interested in holistic medicine since 2002.

She is Manitoba's first veterinarian to become certified in animal chiropractic and the first Manitoba veterinarian to gain certification as a canine rehabilitation therapist.

Treatments she provides include acupuncture, chiropractic, physiotherapy, tui na (a Chinese form of deep tissue massage) and TCM, or traditional Chinese medicine.

"The body has an amazing capacity to heal. We're getting back to the basics of science and anatomy," Hamilton explains. "People are wanting more from a natural perspective."

Hamilton who worked as a veterinarian at Selkirk Animal Hospital for almost 20 years initially did not believe in alternative medicine. In fact, she attended a veterinarians' conference several years ago about acupuncture so she could tell her clients that it was nonsense. Instead, she fell passionately in love with it.

"Funny thing happened," Hamilton says. "The veterinarians giving the presentation approached it from a scientific point of view. Iwent from being a non-believer to being completely enthralled."

Acupuncturists insert small needles into various pressure points on the body to stimulate nerve activity, increase circulation, and relieve pain.

Hamilton says these techniques work the same on animals as they do on people.

Veterinary acupuncture is used to treat several conditions, such as paresis (muscular weakness caused by nerve damage), hip dysplasia, arthritis, neurologic disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, paralysisand muscle injuries.

In Western veterinary medicine, Hamilton says, doctors hit a brick wall there's only so much it can do.

"Acupuncture can go beyond that brick wall," Hamilton says. "I get patients who say that veterinarians have no other suggestions other than to put the dog to sleep or get a cart for the dog if it's paralyzed."

It's often at that point that patients will see Dr. Hamilton. And80 to 85 per centof the time, she says, the treatment will produce a good response.

"Acupuncture stimulates the body to heal itself," she says. "I don't like using the word 'cure,'I like to use the word 'heal.'"

Hamilton has thousands of patients and typically treats between eight and 10 animals on any given day.

Laura O'Byrne has been bringing her 11-year-old South African mastiff, Oxbow, to Hamilton for almost six months.

In August of 2016, Oxbow collapsed at O'Byrne's lake property in Riding Mountain from overexertion and was suddenly left with paralysis in his back end.

O'Byrne saw a total of three veterinarians, hoping they could help Oxbow. All three said the same thing put Oxbow on bed rest. That's what she did for twomonths.

It was also recommended that Oxbow have an invasive surgery. After O'Byrne conducted further research, she found the surgeryhad a success rate ofapproximately 50 per cent.

"To me, that was absolutely ridiculous, given we hadn't had an MRI and we didn't know what we were dealing with," O'Byrne said.

"It was a best-guess scenario, and that wasn't okay with me. At that point, I decided to see Dr. Hamilton."

O'Byrne brought Oxbow to Hamilton in November of 2016 and by December, Oxbow was able to get up and walk without falling.

Hamilton has been performing acupuncture and tui na on Oxbow on a pulsed magnetic therapy bed.

"This bed stimulates the cells in the body to activate faster to get nutrition in and pump out the waste products, so it actually stimulates healing," Hamilton said.

O'Byrne couldn't be happier with the treatment. "Now, he's running, not just standing up, which is incredible," she says. "And he's a senior guy so for him, that's a huge recovery."

An initial hour-long visit with Hamilton, which includes acupuncture, chiropracticand physio-rehabtreatment, costs $200and followup half-hour visits are$110.

"Nowadays, people are spending thousands of dollars just on diagnostics tests, and I think an MRI costs two or three thousand," she says. "How I charge is by time when the patients come in, I do whatever I have to do to help."

To skeptics, Hamilton says give it a try or talk to someone who has tried it.

"People have come in here saying they don't believe in it," she said. "I then treat their animals. Once those animals improve or heal, owners are left gobsmacked."

Acupuncture can also be used to treat elderly animals and those suffering from a terminal illness. In those situations, Hamilton is realistic and says she understands she can't save them all.

"When I treat patients with cancer, I tell animal owners, 'I'm not curing cancer, I'm doing palliative care,'" she said. "What I'm focused on is helping them have the best quality of life while they're here."

Not all veterinarians believe in acupuncture, but Hamilton encourages her fellow vets to consider alternative medicine, since surgery is not always an option and not everyone can get their animal to an MRI machine. The closest one for animals is in Saskatoon.

"With all due respect to my colleagues, why not give this a try?Maybe we can get these animals up and walking," Hamilton said.

"It's 40 years old to say that animals should be kept still for eight to 12 weeks. There has been no science behind that. We all know, if you don't use it, you lose it."

Hamilton is confident that, eventually, alternative medicine for animals will be commonplace.

"There is always going to be doubters," Hamilton said."Once upon a time, we said the world was flat and everyone believed the world was flat, and guess what? The world isn't flat."
