MUMBAI: On Friday morning in a span of an hour and a half, there were over 28,000 Twitter mentions using the #Cancel10thICSEboards. An initiative of six mothers of ICSE students from Delhi, the campaign is gathering support from parents who want the council to cancel the board exams scheduled from July 1 to 14.The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations has scheduled its pending examinations but parents havent been happy about the decision. There have been several online petitions demanding that the examinations be cancelled. Last week, the state school education department also wrote to the board to conduct the exam in a later month or rely on internal assessment. A city parent has also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court.'; var randomNumber = Math.random(); var isIndia = (window.geoinfo && window.geoinfo.CountryCode === 'IN') && (window.location.href.indexOf('outsideindia') === -1 ); //console.log(isIndia && randomNumber On the 19th of March CICSE stopped all board examinations with 6 papers still left for 10th grade students (number may vary for individual students according to subjects chosen). At that point in time there were 236 cases of Covid-19 across India. Now when there are nearly 3 lakh confirmed cases of Covid-19, the board has announced that they will complete the pending papers in the first two weeks of July, said the mothers in their appeal. The mothers set up a Whatsapp group on Thursday to gather support for their campaign. Within a couple of hours, they had created multiple groups with over 2,300 parents. We realised that most parents had similar concerns about safety of the children so we decided to raise a voice using social media through a Tweetathon. Within just an hour and a half, we had over 30,000 tweets about it. This is a sign that the sentiment is the same across the country, said Radhika Singh, one of the mothers. The other hashtag being used was #studentslivesmatter.
