Future Humans: Four Ways We May, or May Not, Evolve

Posted: June 11, 2022 at 1:00 am

Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, published 150 years ago Tuesday, opened the book on our evolutionary past, which has since been traced by scientists back to fossil apes.

But where is evolution taking us? Will our descendants hurtle through space as relatively unchanged as the humans on the starship Enterprise? Will they be muscle-bound cyborgs? Or will they chose to digitize their consciousnessesbecoming electronic immortals?

And as odd as the possibilities may seem, it's worth remembering that, 150 years ago, the ape-to-human scenario in On the Origin of Species struck many as nothing so much as monkey business.

"Because we have evolved, it's natural to imagine we will continue to do so, but I think that's wrong," anthropologist Ian Tattersall of New York's American Museum of Natural History said in an email.

"Everything we know about evolutionary change suggests that genetic innovations are only likely to become fixed in small, isolated populations," he said. For example, Darwin's famous Galpagos finches each evolved from their mainland ancestor to fit a unique habitat on the isolated islands in the Pacific.

Natural selection, as outlined in On the Origin of Species, occurs when a genetic mutationsay, resulting in a spine suited to upright walkingis passed down through generations, because it affords some benefit. Eventually the mutation becomes the norm.

But if populations aren't isolated, crossbreeding makes it much less likely for potentially significant mutations to become established in the gene pooland that's exactly where we are now, Tattersall said.

"Since the advent of settled life, human populations have expanded enormously. Homo sapiens is densely packed across the Earth, and individuals are unprecedentedly mobile.

"In this situation, the fixation of any meaningful evolutionary novelties in the human population is highly improbable." Tattersall said. "Human beings are just going to have to learn to live with themselves as they are."

Steve Jones, a genetics professor at University College London, put forward a similar scenario during a recent lecture series marking the bicentenary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species at the University of Cambridge.

The human population will become more alike as races merge, he said, but "Darwin's machine has lost its power."

That's because natural selectionDarwin's "survival of the fittest" conceptis being sidelined in humans, according to Jones.

The fittest will no longer spearhead evolutionary change, because, thanks to medical advances, the weakest also live on and pass down their genes.

When On the Origin of Species was published in 1859, only about half of British children survived to 21. Today that number has swelled to 99 percent.

In developed countries, "the fact that everybody stays alive, at least until they're sexually mature, means ['survival of the fittest' has] got nothing to work with," Jones said. "That part of the Darwinian fuel has gone."

Other scientists see plenty of evidence that human evolution is far from over.

For instance, a study published last month in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggested that women of the future could become shorter and stouter.

A team led by Yale University evolutionary biologist Stephen Stearns found that, due to ovulatory characteristics, shorter, slightly plumper women tend to have more children than their peers. These physical traits are passed on to their offspring, suggesting natural selection in humans is alive and well.

Geoffrey Miller, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of New Mexico, believes Darwinian evolution in humans is actually speeding up. He highlighted sexual selection through mate choice as one key driver.

"You still have powerful mate choice shaping mental traits particularly traits that are needed to succeed economically and in raising kids," Miller said.

"We're also going to get stronger sexual selection, because the more advanced the technology gets, the greater an effect general intelligence will have on each individual's economic and social success, because as technology gets more complex, you need more intelligence to master it," he said.

"That intelligence results in higher earnings, social status, and sexual attractiveness."

Miller added that artificial selection using genetic technologies will likely accentuate these changes in the future.

"Parents could basically choose which sperm and egg get to meet up to produce a baby based on genetic information about which genes contribute to which physical and mental traits," he said.

"If the rich and powerful keep the artificial-selection technology to themselves, then you could get that kind of split between a kind of upper-class, dominant population and a lower-class, genetically oppressed population," he added.

"But I think it's very likely the new genetic technologies will be widespread in their use, simply because that's more profitable. So I think there will actually be a leveling effect, where both the poor and the rich are going to be able to have the best kids they can genetically.

"You will probably see a rise in average physical attractiveness and health," he added. "You will probably get selection for physical traits that tend to be attractive in both males and femalesthings like height, muscularity, energy levels."

But "regular" natural selection will also continue to play a major role, Miller believes.

"What you're facing now is a global pathogen pool of viruses and bacteria that get spread around by air travel to every corner of the Earth, and that's going to increase," he said.

"We're going to get a lot more epidemics," Miller added. "That will increase the importance of the genetic immune system in human survival"and result in a human species with stronger immune systems, he speculated.

A philosophy known as transhumanism sees humans taking charge of their evolution and transcending their biological limitations via technology.

In essence, the old-fashioned evolution of On the Origin of Species may be beside the point: The future may belong to unnatural selection.

Nick Bostrom, director of the Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford, said Darwinian evolution "is happening on a very slow time scale now relative to other things that are leading to changes in the human condition"cloning, genetic enhancement, robotics, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology, for starters.

Transhumanism raises a spectacular array of possibilities, from supersoldiers and new breeds of athletes to immortal beings who, having had their brains scanned atom by atom, transfer their minds to computers.

In addition to living forever, "uploaded" beings would be able to "travel at the speed of light as an information pattern," download themselves into robots for the occasional stroll through the real world, think faster when running on advanced operating systems, and cut their food budget down to zero, Bostrom imagines in his paper "The Transhumanist FAQ."

If that were to happen, a new type of evolution would emerge, Bostrom said.

"Evolutionary selection could occur in a population of uploads or artificial intelligence just as much as it could in a population of biological organisms," he told National Geographic News. "In fact, it might operate much faster there, because artificial intellects could reproduce much faster."

Whereas the current human generational cycle takes some 20 years, a digitalized individual could replicate themselves in seconds or minutes, Bostrom said.

Of course copying yourself isn't without complications, Bostrom acknowledges.

"Which one of them is you?" he writes. "Who owns your property? Who is married to your spouse?"

"Some major new isolating mechanism" would be needed for a new human species to arise, according to John Hawks, an anthropologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Despite up to 30,000 years of partial isolation among populations in places such as Australia and Papua New Guinea, human speciation did not occur, he noted.

But if, in the far distant future, habitable planets beyond our solar system were colonized by Earth migrants, that could provide the necessary isolation for new human species to evolve.

"If we had spacefaring people who went on one-way voyages to distant stars, that might be enough to trigger speciation," Hawks said.

But, he added, "if you think about it, a small group of people went on a one-way voyage to [the Americas] 14,000 years ago, and then when new people [Europeans] showed up 500 years ago, they were still the same species."

Crimes of the Future Explained: Transhumanism, Surgery as Sex, and Humanity’s Frightening Evolution – Signal Horizon

Posted: at 1:00 am

David Cronenberg is back, baby. Okay, he technically never went away for a long period, but hes returned to the body horror genre that he pioneered in the early 1970s. His latest, Crimes of the Future, is not as shocking as some of his most well-known horror classics like Shivers, Scanners, or even The Fly. However, it is thought-provoking with some new and familiar ideas at its center.

Cronenbergs latest feature tackles a lot, specifically transhumanism, technology, and this concept of surgery as a new form of sex/performance art. To understand much of what goes on in the film, its important to address some of these concepts.

Major spoilers below.

Set in the not-too-distant future, Crimes of the Futures first sequence shocks the most. The camera pans in on a boy, Brecken Dotrice (Sozos Sotiris), who digs on a beach. His mother, Djuna (Lihi Kornowski), warns him not to mess around with any waste he digs up. Her warnings make sense later. When she calls Brecken inside, he soon munches on a plastic trash can in the bathroom after brushing his teeth. This scene is both alarming and jarring. Cut to the next scene. When Brecken sleeps, his mom suffocates him with a pillow. So appalled by what her son is, she opts to kill him. To her, hes an utter monster, a freak of nature. This is made much clearer later. She tries to thwart humanitys potential evolution before it spreads.

The murder triggers the films subsequent events and numerous side plots. Brecken represents humanitys possible future as literal plastic consumers. Brecken is the first child born who possesses these genes. Other characters in the film, led by Breckens father, Lang (Scott Speedman), perform underground surgeries on themselves to speed up this evolution, so to speak. He and the others embrace plastic-eating. They even manufacture plastic candy bars to share with each other. The child is so unique, however, because hes the first one born with these genes, as far as they know.

Lang and his followers see this evolution as worthy of celebration, a form of transhumanism in which humans evolve to eat their own waste. They devour the industrial waste they create, merging with it, to an extent. To others, specifically government bureaucrats, however, this evolution needs to be stopped, or at the very least, kept from the public. They want to stomp out the truth at all costs.

Crimes of the Future contains a few side stories and subplots. Like film noir, characters double-cross each other. It can be tough to keep track. However, like some of Cronenbergs early work, government bureaucracy plays a key role. More specifically, theres a National Organ Registry launched to track everyones evolution and organ growth. This is led by Kristen Stewarts Timlin and Don McKellars Wippet. Anyone who grows a new organ must register it by allowing the duo to tattoo it. This is a way for the government to keep track of everything and, more likely, keep an eye out for plastic eaters.

Theres another government official played by Welket Bungue who wants to disrupt and stop Langs underground group. So whats the point of all of this, especially the role Bungue plays? The government wants to suppress information that humans are evolving into plastic munchers. Its why Langs group poses such a threat. They want to spread the news and embrace humanitys next phase, which sets up another key plot and theme. Why would plastic consumption be a bad thing if it cleans the planet?

Crimes of the Future has another key concept at its core: surgery as the new sex. In this dystopian world, humans have become numb. Theres the old sex, which people no longer practice. They dont feel anything anymore, including pain. They even have beds and chairs that adjust their bodies to maximize personal comfort. This is another example of transhumanism, in which this new form of technology melds with humans to aid their comfort. This furniture is nightmarish, with a skeleton-looking structure and tentacle-like arms that leech upon the skin. In this world, humans open themselves up to potentially fatal sensations, even death.

Viggo Mortensens Saul Tenser and Lea Seydouxs Caprice are darlings of the performance art world. They perform surgery on each other before a live audience and in private, a slice here, a slice there using weird gadgets. It becomes orgasmic, and its the only thing that gets them off. For the crowd, its like a peepshow, especially for Stewarts otherwise conservative, rigid, and frankly, very unnerving character. In this new world, people stab each other in the leg or watch Saul and Caprice perform surgery. Its the only titillating experience available when theyre so numb to everything else. Its the new and disturbing entertainment, the new sex.

Saul is like a stage-four cancer patient who speaks in rasps and covers himself from head to toe while in public to avoid illness. Somehow, his body produces new organs, making him an object of fascination for Timlin and Wippet. Caprice, a former trauma surgeon, removes his rogue organs live as part of their art. People film it and look on in heated fixation as if watching a porno.

By the third act, Saul and Caprice are offered a chance to perform their biggest surgery yet. After Djuna murders her son and before shes jailed, she leaves the body for Lang. Eventually, he offers the body to Caprice and Saul. He wants it cut open before a live crowd to expose the truth. What better way to do this than to turn it into Saul and Caprices popular art show? However, when the dynamic duo performs, they dont exactly discover insides filled with plastic. Timlin covered up the organs, replacing them with tattooed ones, to prevent the truth from reaching the public. Shes a sneaky, sneaky character indeed.

As the film progresses, Saul has more and more difficulty eating, despite his weird chair that adjusts his body to make the process easier. In the final shot, Caprice encourages him to eat one of the plastic bars. She slowly unwraps it and offers it to him. He initially resists but then munches it. Before the credits roll, its clear his body has changed to accept plastic. He can no longer digest regular food. Like the murdered boy, hes another example of this disturbing stage in human evolution.

The film concludes with more than a hint that this will be humanitys fate. Apparently, the government doesnt think people can handle the truth, hence why they messed with Breckens body, to stop the truth from coming out in a very public way. Its also why they set up the National Organ Registry, to monitor all new organs and leaps in evolution. Instead of rejecting this next stage, as Saul did previously by cutting out and rejecting new organs, he finally succumbs to it and embraces it.

Of Cronenbergs broad body of work, Crimes of the Future definitely scores in the better half of his films. He treads some familiar ground here, but it doesnt make the film any less thought-provoking. There are some disturbing images, but more chilling is a future where humans devour plastic and no longer feel anything, to the point they forgo sex because they need a riskier and potentially fatal sensation. Or maybe the film offers a small silver lining, a future where humans evolve to devour their own industrial waste, a positive as Lang sees it.

Brian Fanelli is a poet and educator who also enjoys writing about the horror genre. His work has been published in The LA Times, World Literature Today, Schuylkill Valley Journal, Horror Homeroom, and elsewhere. On weekends, he enjoys going to the local drive-in theater with his wife or curling up on the couch, and binge-watching movies with their cat, Giselle.

A Turning Point in History Stand with Us – The Desert Review

Posted: May 31, 2022 at 2:33 am

In 1960, the United States ranked third among major nations in life expectancy. Unfortunately,by 2018, the United States had sunk to a disgraceful 27th.

During the Pandemic, the gap between the United States and other nations widened further. One might suspect this had everything to do with regulatory capture and an inherently corrupt public health policy focused on enriching the interests of Big Pharma at the expense of the citizens. Regulatory capture is a well-established theory where the public health agency entrusted with serving the public good is instead controlled by the businesses it seeks to regulate.

Think about the EPA and how poorly they protected the consumer with the rash of cancer clusters surrounding Big Polluters and the lack of effective action to stop them.Regulatory capture has also been implicated in the Wall Street 2008 collapse.

How does one notice this capture? What are the clear signs?

Whenever you see a massive increase in a nation's cancer rates, that is your first clue that perhaps the EPA is not doing its job. Maybe they are working for the polluters rather than against them. Likewise, whenever you notice life expectancies dropping like a stone, maybe suspect the FDA is not doing its job. Perhaps they have been captured and are sacrificing your health interests in favor of Big Pharma's profits.

The United States outspends Japan by more than two to one per capita; however,Japan ranks #2 in life expectancy compared to the United States at #27.

That is also despite the Japanese smoking more than Americans. You might think that the problem is our obesity epidemic - however, this only underscores our Food and Drug Administration's failure to regulate the food industry properly. Allowing ubiquitous use of high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oil-containing foods promotes the development of obesity and diabetes.

On the one hand, the FDA gives fattening and unhealthy food manufacturers a pass, allowing them to avoid labeling things like trans fats while at the same time fostering expensive and sometimes dangerous drug treatments for the resulting diseases.

The bottom line is that our FDA gets a failing grade regarding our nation's longevity ranking. When seeking the truth in our pandemic, one need not try to unravel the propaganda. Instead, look no further than how the United States did worse than most other countries despite lockdowns, mask wear, and mandatory vaccinations. Perhaps we need to take a page from Uttar Pradesh, where they eradicated COVID-19 with repurposed drugs, all at a fraction of what our US taxpayers spent for the FDA's high-priced darlings - Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson.

The United States sustained one million deaths during COVID-19,while Uttar Pradesh experienced only 23,597.

The US population is estimated at 332 million, while Uttar Pradesh is 247 million. Yet, the death rate from COVID in Uttar Pradesh was only 23,597/1,000,000 or 97.6% lower per capita than in the US. Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh accomplished this feat using the repurposed drug, Ivermectin, and they did so WITHOUT the FDA, which corruptly advised against its use in the United States.

No FDA would have been better than one that sank our health to the bottom of the list.

We are now faced with a similar choice in Global Public Health. Just last week, members of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) met in Switzerland to decide how best to "regulate" world health, world economics, and of course, world governments. Klaus Schwab, the leader of the WEF, stated, "We are at the turning point in history."

This crucial moment comes two years after Schwab published his book on theGreat Reset, calling the COVID-19 Pandemic an opportunity to reimagine the world and create a New World Order by 2030, when "you will own nothing and be happy."

This comes after publishing another book of his,The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which foresees a totalitarian and high-tech world of global surveillance, transhumanism, and cryptocurrency.

In an interview from the WEFs annual meeting this week, Schwab unveils his most recent ideas, "If we don't change course, we will have hundreds of millions of people falling back into poverty, tens of millions possibly dying of hunger. This is a misery, and we have to address it [3:57]."

Somehow Klaus does not strike me as the type of person committed to resolving suffering and world hunger. Instead, Schwab is a globalist who advocates for a New World Order. He is no Mother Teresa. And the food shortages that are emerging arearguably concocted. So when Baby Food is readily available in Canada and Mexico yet mysteriously vanishes in the United States, it is only logical for us to be highly suspicious, especially when the WEF and WHO have so obviously captured the Biden Administration [5:59].

https://www.theepochtimes.com/death-of-the-american-middle-class-dream_4488393.html?utm_source=ref_share&utm_campaign=copy&rs=SHRCVHWJM&

Having no WHO and no WEF would be preferable to one that destroys the free world.

We have massive inflation resulting from printing too much money and killing the US economy due to lockdowns and unemployment incentives. We havefood shortages by design.

And wesee a war in Ukraine that Professor Mearsheimer attributes to the United States in provoking Putin.

In addition, we see theBiden Administration handing our hard-earned national Sovereignty over to the WHO.

Now we witness Klaus Schwab feigning interest in resolving the very situations his captured politicians have created.

Biden has proposed more Pandemic Relief money for future Pandemic Surveillance, which will video monitor Americans for signs of infection, like sneezing and coughing.Further monitoring proposals involve checking our carbon footprints by monitoring where we travel, what foods we consume, and how much fossil fuel we burn [2:20].

https://www.theepochtimes.com/ceo-dumping-30m-vaccine-doses-global-app-to-100-track-citizens-push-to-recalibrate-free-speech_4491388.html?utm_source=ref_share&utm_campaign=copy&rs=SHRCVHWJM&

While these measures are claimed to further public health and control climate change, the actual reason is that they will allow the Globalists to control us.

Many fear this surveillance will create the ability of the Globalists to monitor the movements and habits of every human being on earth. Asocial credit scorecan then be assigned to each person based on whether they comply with ever-increasing mandates. This will determine whether we may buy or sell, whether we can obtain a car loan or mortgage, and other privileges we now take for granted.

A chief adviser to Klaus Schwab, Noah Harari, envisions a New World Order wherefree will is hacked and eliminated and where technocratic dictatorship exerts totalitarian control over the masses.

Recall that we did not have the COVID-19 Pandemic until thevirus was patented, until the gain of function testing weaponized it, and until it was unleashed on the world two years ago.

We did worse because of the regulatory capture of the FDA and NIH. Our life expectancy would no doubt be higher and closer to Japan's without a corrupt agency working to worsen our health and, at the same time, enrich Big Pharma.

If we allow the FDA, NIH, and Big Pharma to call the shots, we can expect more manufactured gain of function viruses, concocted pandemics, and mandates. We can expect more manipulation of our economy, food supply, and fuel prices, all at the expense of our privacy, freedoms, and human rights.

Now we are asked to put our health and our liberty in the hands of Klaus Schwab's WEF stakeholders, who financially control the World Health Organization.Klaus has a bust of Vladimir Lenin on display in his home [1:23].

https://www.theepochtimes.com/ceo-dumping-30m-vaccine-doses-global-app-to-100-track-citizens-push-to-recalibrate-free-speech_4491388.html?utm_source=ref_share&utm_campaign=copy&rs=SHRCVHWJM&

We already know what will result - more power and control for the stakeholders and a world where we own nothing and are neither happy nor free. But our nation was not created for the Globalists or the stakeholders. Our Founding Fathers designed it as a government for the people.

Now is the time to return to the American values that inspired our Founding Fathers and the Framers of our Constitution. Now is the time to free ourselves from the fascist influences of the World Health Organizationand recommit to the Bill of Rights. Now is the time for all Americans to unite.

While their plan may have been to divide and conquer us, Americans are united by our will to remain free. Our American experiment has weathered every storm since 1776, and we shall also prevail against this one. America shines as the symbol of democracy in the free world.

Those who feel a woman has the right to choose now join with those who think all humans have theGod-given rightto our own medical decisions. Our human right to freedom is more important than any government's interest in public health. Our human right to free speech is more fundamental than any organization's ban on misinformation. And our right to bear arms supersedes any presidential agenda to disarm its citizenry.

As Abraham Lincoln reminded us at Gettysburg in 1863, the United States was "conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Now we are engaged in another great struggle once again for our survival "testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure."

Our immediate enemy is the WHO and the Globalists at the WEF who control it. But make no mistake, Klaus Schwab and company seek to establish absolute totalitarian and fascist control over the United States through the emergency pandemic powers. In this way, they hope to bypass our Constitution and our Bill of Rights. Through this, they seek to rob us of our property, health, and sovereignty.

In short, they wish to destroy our liberty.

Liberty bothers the Globalists at the WEF and WHO. It also disturbs the Biden Administration, which seeks to forfeit our individual liberty AND our national overeignty. Although the WHO tabled the amendments that would have given the Director-General unilateral power over the US during a PHEIC a Public Health Emergency of International Concern these could be resurrected at any moment.

Therefore, we MUST demand the United States withdraw from the WHO immediately.Attorney Leslie Manookian has given us, the people, a way to accomplish this. She created an instrument that would provide us with a voicethrough the World Freedom Declaration.

http://worldfreedomdeclaration.org/

By a show of overwhelming public support, perhaps after obtaining 200 million signatures, we, the American people, can demand our withdrawal from the World Health Organization. Each and every one of us should therefore sign theWorld Freedom Declarationtoday now.

Let us honor those who fought and gave their lives at Gettysburg almost 160 years ago so that we could live free today. Sign the Declaration so that our great-grandchildrens great-grandchildren may live free. And, like those brave soldiers at Gettysburg, let us remain dedicated to those who will follow us.

Failure is not an option.

As Lincoln explained, It is for us, the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and thatgovernment of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Abraham Lincoln

Sex-bots and foil hats: reconfiguring what it means to be human – Sydney Morning Herald

Future Superhuman by Elise BohanCredit:

SCIENCEFuture SuperhumanElise BohanNewSouth, $29.99

H.G. Wells once said that every time he saw an adult riding a bicycle, he no longer despaired for the future of the human race.

That looks like a rosy view of the relationship between human technology and human nature in the 21st century.

What would Wells have made of a Twitter feud, though? Or a combat drone?

Humans have accomplished incredible things, but were sitting on time bombs of our own devising. The problems that human nature causes may exceed the capacity of human ingenuity to resolve but can we go beyond human? Become something better, something that doesnt make the same mistakes? Future Superhuman makes the case for transformation.

Transhumanism as an academic field still carries a whiff of mad science, thanks largely to popular fascination with the most sensationalist possibilities. Killer cyborgs. Cryogenics. A technological singularity.

A certain suspicion of the field should be expected. The line between science fiction and scientific rigour is often blurred, and transhumanism has attracted some truly eccentric adherents: you might remember the story of the Sydney biohacker who implanted an Opal card in their body.

Elise Bohan takes pains to distance her work from the foil-hat-wearing cranks who often derail the conversation. As a research scholar at Oxfords Future of Humanity Institute, she may be one of the best-positioned people to assess the road ahead. She argues that as the rate of technological development gathers pace, so too does the urgency and relevance of transhumanist study.

Already, tech billionaires like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel are deeply invested in explicitly transhumanist projects that seek to fundamentally alter our species, from brain-chip interfaces to extreme longevity. These projects, Bohan reasons, might sound fantastical, but then humanity couldnt reasonably predict going from horse-drawn carts to a global digital brain.

Global Artificial Intelligence in Big Data Analytics and IoT Markets, 2022-2027: Focus on Data Capture, Information and Decision Support Services -…

Posted: at 2:20 am

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Artificial Intelligence in Big Data Analytics and IoT: Market for Data Capture, Information and Decision Support Services 2022 - 2027" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

This report evaluates various AI technologies and their use relative to analytics solutions within the rapidly growing enterprise and industrial data arena. The report assesses emerging business models, leading companies, and solutions.

The report also analyzes how different forms of AI may be best used for problem-solving. The report also evaluates the market for AI in IoT networks and systems. The report provides forecasting for unit growth and revenue for both analytics and IoT from 2022 to 2027.

The Internet of Things (IoT) in consumer, enterprise, industrial, and government market segments has very unique needs in terms of infrastructure, devices, systems, and processes. One thing they all have in common is that they each produce massive amounts of data, most of which is of the unstructured variety, requiring big data technologies for management.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms enhance the ability for big data analytics and IoT platforms to provide value to each of these market segments. The author sees three different types of IoT Data: (1) Raw (untouched and unstructured) Data, (2) Meta (data about data), and (3) Transformed (valued-added data). Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be useful in support of managing each of these data types in terms of identifying, categorizing, and decision-making.

AI coupled with advanced big data analytics provides the ability to make raw data meaningful and useful as information for decision-making purposes. The use of AI for decision making in IoT and data analytics will be crucial for efficient and effective decision-making, especially in the area of streaming data and real-time analytics associated with edge computing networks.

Real-time data will be a key value proposition for all use cases, segments, and solutions. The ability to capture streaming data, determine valuable attributes, and make decisions in real-time will add an entirely new dimension to service logic. In many cases, the data itself, and actionable information will be the service.

What is transhumanism and how does it affect you? | World …

Posted: April 29, 2022 at 3:49 pm

Biological evolution takes place over generations. But imagine if it could be expedited beyond the incremental change envisaged by Darwin to a matter of individual experience. Such things are dreamt of by so-called transhumanists. Transhumanism has come to connote different things to different people, from a belief system to a cultural movement, a field of study to a technological fantasy. You cant get a degree in transhumanism, but you can subscribe to it, invest in it, research its actors, and act on its tenets.

So what is it? The term transhumanism gained widespread currency in 1990, following its formal inauguration by Max More, the CEO of Alcor Life Extension Foundation. It refers to an optimistic belief in the enhancement of the human condition through technology in all its forms. Its advocates believe in fundamentally enhancing the human condition through applied reason and a corporeal embrace of new technologies.

It is rooted in the belief that humans can and will be enhanced by the genetic engineering and information technology of today, as well as anticipated advances, such as bioengineering, artificial intelligence, and molecular nanotechnology. The result is an iteration of Homo sapiens enhanced or augmented, but still fundamentally human.

The central premise of transhumanism, then, is that biological evolution will eventually be overtaken by advances in genetic, wearable and implantable technologies that artificially expedite the evolutionary process. This was the kernel of Mores founding definition in 1990. Article two of the periodically updated, multi-authored transhumanist declaration continues to assert the point: We favor morphological freedom the right to modify and enhance ones body, cognition and emotions.

To date, areas to improve on include natural ageing (including, for die-hards, the cessation of involuntary death) as well as physical, intellectual and psychological capacities. Some distinguished scientists, such as Hans Moravec and Raymond Kurzweil, even advocate a posthuman condition: the end of humanitys reliance on our congenital bodies by transforming our frail version 1.0 human bodies into their far more durable and capable version 2.0 counterparts.

The push back against such unchecked optimism is emphatic. Some find the rhetoric distasteful in its assumptions about the desire for a prosthetic future.

And potential ethical problems, in particular, are raised. Tattoos, piercings and cosmetic surgery remain a matter of individual choice, and amputations a matter of medical necessity. But if augmented sensory capacity, for instance, were to become normative in a particular field, it might coerce others to make similar changes to their bodies in order to compete. As Isaiah Berlin once put it: Freedom for the wolves has often meant death to the sheep.

In order to really get to grips with the meaning of all this, though, an example is needed. Take the hypothetical augmentation of human hearing, something I am researching within a broader project on sound and materialism. Within discussions of transhumanism, ears are not typically among the sense organs figured for enhancement.

But human hearing is already being augmented. Algorithms for transposing auditory frequencies already exist (common to most speech processors in cochlear implants and hearing aids). Research into the regeneration of cilia hairs in the cochlear duct is also ongoing. Following this logic, augmenting unimpaired hearing need be no different, in principle, to correcting impaired hearing.

What next? Acoustic sound vibrations sit alongside the vast, inaudible electromagnetic spectrum, and various animals access different portions of this acoustic space, portions to which we as humans have no access. Could this change?

If it does, this may well alter the identity of sound itself. Speculations as to whether what is visible as light might under other circumstances be perceivable as sound have arisen at various points over the past two centuries. This raises heady questions about the very definition of sound. Must it be perceived by a human ear to constitute sound? By a sentient animal? Can a machine hear sufficiently to define sound beyond the human auditory range? What about aesthetics? Aesthetics itself as the (human) study of the beautiful may no longer even be applicable.

The technologies for broaching such questions are arguably already at hand. Examples of auditory sense augmentation (broadly conceived) include Norbert Wieners so-called hearing glove, which stimulated the finger of a deaf person with electromagnetic vibrations; an implanted colour sensor that for its colour-blind recipient, Neil Harbisson converts the colour spectrum into sounds, including ultraviolet and infrared signals; and a cochlear implant that streams sounds wirelessly from Apples mass market devices directly to the auditory nerve of its recipients.

The discussion is not entirely hypothetical, in other words. So what does all this mean?

There is a famous scene in the film The Matrix in which Morpheus asks Neo whether he wants to take the blue pill or the red pill. One returns him unawares to his life of total physical and mental enslavement within the simulation programme of the Matrix, the other gives him access to the real world with all its brutal challenges. But after experiencing this, he can never go back to life within the Matrix, and must survive outside it.

Advocates of transhumanism face a similar choice today. One option is to take advantage of the advances in nanotechnologies, genetic engineering and other medical sciences to enhance the biological and mental functioning of human beings (never to go back). The other is to legislate to prevent these artificial changes from becoming an entrenched part of humanity, with all the implied coercive bio-medicine that would entail for the species.

Of course, the reality of this debate is more complex. Holding our scepticism in abeyance, it still supersedes individual choice. Hence the question of agency remains: who should have the right to decide?

So-called Christian transhumanism, or the attempt to blend the transhumanist agenda with the precepts of Christian theology, has been aroundfor some time. But there has been a recent resurgence of interest in the project. The bookReligious Transhumanism and Its Critics, published in 2019, claims tooffer first-hand testimony to the value of the transhumanist vision perceived by the religious mind. The volume includes contributions from a number of Christians. The Christian Transhumanist Association (CTA),formed in 2014, is actively dedicated to promoting transhumanism as a means of participating with God in the redemption, reconciliation, and renewal of the world.

The problem with these efforts is that the transhumanist worldview and the Christian faith are incompatible. One cannot be a Christian transhumanist any more than one can be a Christian Buddhist or Christian Muslim.

Transhumanism is a futuristic social movement. Its adherents believe that immortality is attainable in the corporeal world through the wonders of applied technology. The goal is to become H+, or more than human. Transhumanist proselytizers include academics like Oxfords Nick Bostrom, Big Tech gurus like Ray Kurzweil, and popularizers like 2016 presidential candidate Zoltan Istvan. They promise that the singularity is coming the time when a crescendo of scientific advances will make the movement unstoppable and transhumanists will transform themselves into super-beings who can enjoy physical life without end.

That transhumanism became a phenomenon is not surprising. Western society is becoming increasingly secular, with an exponential growth of nones among the young. Such a societal shift has consequences. Removing God from the human equation engenders hopelessness and breeds nihilism. This is the crucial weakness of modern materialism, one that transhumanism seeks to remedy. By offering adherents the hope oftechnological rescuefrom the ultimate obliteration of death, transhumanism offers nonbelievers a postmodern twist on faiths promise of eternal life.I can live forever, the transhumanist believes fervently, if we just develop the technology soon enough.

But any attempt to merge transhumanism and Christianity is misguided, for the two are contradictory belief systems. Transhumanist dogma is entirely materialistic. Its focus is solipsistic, its purpose eugenic. Moreover, it rejects basic Christian tenets like sin, the need for divine forgiveness, the value of redemptive suffering, and eternal salvation. To obfuscate that truth, the CTA website assiduously avoids discussing the actual tenets of transhumanism. It offers jejune statements such as, We believe that Gods mission involves the transformation and renewal of creation, and We seek growth and progress along every dimension of our humanity. In this way, the CTA conflates the pursuit of technological advances which Christians certainly can support with transhumanisms fixation on technology as savior.

Nor does the CTA website discuss the means that transhumanist advocates plan to use to attain this utopian vision not to mention their ethical implications. For example, some transhumanists hope torepeatedly renew their bodies through breeding clones as sources of organ replacements. Others plan to have their heads cryogenically frozen to allow eventual surgical attachment on a different body or a cyborg. But transhumanists greatest passion is to eternally save theirminds as opposed to souls, which is not a transhumanist concept via uploading into computer programs, a concept known as digital immortality. This is hardly what St. Paul meant when he asked, Death, where is thy sting? Grave, where is thy victory?

Transhumanists not only believe that life is too short, but that human capacities are inadequate. Thus, the second great goal of transhumanism is morphological freedom, i.e., radical quality improvement not through self-discipline, embracing the virtues, or focused efforts at character building, but via materialistic means such as gene editing, brain implants, and merging with AI technologies.

The ultimate purpose of this quest isnt spiritual not theosis or sanctification but to become super-beings in a materialistic sense. As Istvanwrotein 2016 in theHuffington Post: We must force our evolution in the present day via our reasoning, inventiveness, and especially our scientific technology. In short, we must embrace transhumanism the radical field of science that aims to turn humans into, for lack of a better word, gods. Its hard to see how any of that squares with the Christians call to humility.

Transhumanists dont just want to manipulate their own bodies, but also those of their children. They hope to do this through genetic engineering and unnatural means of family formation. According to theTranshumanist Bill of Rights,All sentient entities are entitled to reproductive freedom, including through novel means such as the creation of mind clones, monoparent children, or benevolent artificial general intelligence. And I havent even gotten into how, by granting rights to AI computers and proposing to upgrade animals into rational beings, the movement rejects Christianitys view of human uniqueness.

Readers wont find any of this on the CTA website. Rather, the CTA claims that by embracing transhumanism, Christians can grow into our identityas humans made in the image of God. But Christians embrace spiritual growth through prayer, fasting, and acts of asceticism, not superficial technological improvements in our physicality. Christians dont view the ill and disabled as somehow lesser. Moreover, the Christian faith calls us to show compassion toward others, rather than being obsessed with self. Christians are commanded to feed the hungry, invite the stranger in, clothe the naked, and visit the sick and imprisoned, for by doing these acts of mercy to the least among us, we do them unto Christ.

First principles matter, and those of transhumanism and Christianity could not be more contradictory. Transhumanism is materialistic. Christianity is theistic. Transhumanism is utopian. Christianity sees the fallen world realistically. Transhumanism perceives immortality as something that can be achieved by men. Christianity identifies eternal salvation as the mercy of a loving God. Its eschatology focuses on Gods promises, not upon advanced scientific applications.

One can certainly be Christian, and as a secondary matter, a technophile. But one cannot be a Christian transhumanist. The two religions because that is essentially what transhumanism has become simply cannot occupy the same space.

Transhumanism: The Plot to Control Your Life! Jonathan …

Posted: February 9, 2022 at 2:06 am

If our world is not on a direct path to the fulfillment of Revelation 13:16-18, the only alternative is to assume that something with a striking and most uncanny resemblance to the mark of the beast will appear in the not-too-distant future.

In other words, if what the transhumanist propose for our world is not the prelude to the mark of the beast, then I do not know what would be. Their plans for the future fit like a glove with what the apostle John wrote about the mark of the beast.

The words of Revelation 13:16-18 represent a specific, detailed prophecy and that cannot reach its full fruition until after the antichrist begins his reign of terror during the seven-year tribulation. Even so, we already see Satans evil and deadly end-of-days design for humanity at work in the plans of those who seek to impose transhumanism upon us.

Why do I say that this prophecy is already in play? Continue reading as I make my case in this post and those that follow.

Transhumanism is the combining of machines and human beings.

David Tippett, a contributor to the World Economic Forum (WEF) website, described transhumanism in this way:

It is rooted in the belief that humans can and will be enhanced by the genetic engineering and information technology of today, as well as anticipated advances, such as bioengineering, artificial intelligence, and molecular nanotechnology. The result is an iteration of Homo sapiens enhanced or augmented, but still fundamentally human.

The central premise of transhumanism, then, is that biological evolution will eventually be overtaken by advances in genetic, wearable and implantable technologies that artificially expedite the evolutionary process.[i]

The globalists of our day propose to fundamentally change humanity through means that include the changing of the human DNA (i.e., nanotechnology). Contrary to what the WEF would have us believe, the end result of this artificial biological evolution will be something far different than what God created as well as what Jesus died on the cross to redeem.

Dr. Carrie Madej, in her April 19, 2021 video, defined transhumanism in a similar way as in the above quote, but also warned of its many dire consequences for our future as the elite of the world seek to exercise complete control of our behavior.[ii]

In November of 2017, an article appeared on the Forbes website with this title: Transhumanism and The Future of Humanity: 7 Ways the World Will Change By 2030. Here is a quote from the introduction of this article:

This transformation will be messy, complex, and sometimes scary, but signals already point to a future of humanity that will blur our identities into transhumanism.[iii]

Several disturbing statements regarding transhumanism emerge from this Forbes 2017 article. The assertion of the author that transhumanism will blur our identities, however, shocks me the most. It confirms the planned merging of machines with our bodies would remove what makes us human.

Lest you think that transhumanism is just the aspiration of a few mad scientists, please know that many of the most powerful and wealthy people in the world openly support the combining of humans and machines as the next step in the evolutionary process. This concept finds its most fervent and outspoken support in the WEF. Its website contains an abundance of information on the combining of humans with machines.

Please know that the WEF is not some obscure fringe group. President Biden ran for office under the theme of Build Back Better; a slogan he took directly from the WEF as an indication of his support for its agenda. John Kerry, a prominent member of Bidens administration, has pledged the full support of the Biden administration to the Great Reset championed by the WEF.

An article on the New American website ties together the Great Reset advocated by the WEF and the Biden administration with the push for transhumanism:

Under the new world order envisioned by the proponents of the United Nations-backed Great Reset, humans will be merged with machines and technology. Literally. Perhaps most incredibly, the Deep State globalists behind the efforts are coming out of the closet. These days, they are openly and literally proclaiming their intention to abolish private ownership of property and even fuse microchips into peoples brains that will be able to read and manipulate individuals thoughts.[iv]

Please read the preceding quote again. It aptly summarizes my research and correctly connects the Great Reset of the WEF with its push for transhumanism through which it will read and manipulate the thoughts of those under it domain.

Notice also the reference to the deep state in the United States in the preceding quote; this refers to those in the U.S. who put Biden in office and now control his presidency. These elite globalists in the U.S. and throughout the world talk openly about their plans for both transhumanism and the Great Reset.

Consider this quote from the WEF website regarding the changes they plan for our world under what the WEF calls the Fourth Industrial Revolutions, their term for transhumanism:

The Fourth Industrial Revolution represents a fundamental change in the way we live, work and relate to one another. It is a new chapter in human development, enabled by extraordinary technology advances commensurate with those of the first, second and third industrial revolutions. These advances are merging the physical, digital and biological worlds in ways that create both huge promise and potential peril. The speed, breadth and depth of this revolution is forcing us to rethink how countries develop, how organisations create value and even what it means to be human.[v]

Though it may sound benign on the surface, the purpose of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is not to benefit humanity, no, not at all. Its the vehicle through which the WEF, along with globalists at the United Nations and in America, hope to force people into accepting a tyrannical and Marxist government through which they intend to control the lives of everyone on the planet.

The Great Reset agenda necessitates augmenting humans in such a way that will allow those in power to monitor and control their behavior via external computer networks and artificial intelligence.

How will these powerbrokers augment the makeup of human beings so as to merge them with machines? To answer that question, we begin with the words of Klaus Schwab of the WEF. In a January 10, 2016 interview, he explained that human beings will soon receive a chip in their body in order to merge [them] with the digital world. Below is another excerpt from this interview:

Schwab: And at first, we will implant them in our clothes. And then we could imagine that we will implant them in our brains, or in our skin. And in the end, maybe, here will be a direct communication between our brain and the digital world. What we see is a kind of fusion of the physical, digital, and biological world.

Interviewer: We call someone, we dont even have the reflex to take a device, its done naturally, the technique continues in the body. Schwab: Yes.

Interviewer: When will happen? Schwab: Certainly in the next ten years.[vi]

The following two points sum up the essence of transhumanism:

The process includes augmenting humans into something quite different than what God created as well as implanting a device inside them that will connect them to the digital world outside them.

The plan consists of connecting humans to the digital world, such as a supercomputer, that will monitor their behavior for the ultimate purpose of controlling it through the blending of people with machines.

At this point, however, it appears that these globalists might have a problem.

How do they put such a system in place? The vast majority of people would readily reject the changes that I have described in this post and rightly so. Some might desire the enhanced artificial intelligence that will come as the result of transhumanism, but not everything else that would come with it.

In part 2 of this series entitled Transhumanism: Is It Already Here? I will describe the deceitful plan of the transhumanists that they intend to use in augmenting human beings into something currently unrecognizable. Please keep reading as I continue to connect the dots.
