International Space Station, ISS, passes by the Moon
Filmed on 23rd December 2012 from Cheshire, the International Space Station, at the time docked with the Soyuz capsule, makes a close approach to the Moon. Around 30 km to the North, a full transit of the Moon could be seen. The ISS is a vast artificial satellite, which is approximately the size of a football pitch, orbiting about 400km above the Earth #39;s surface. Despite its large size, it appears only about 1/40 of the Moon #39;s size at its closest, although it #39;s difficult to tell from the video. In this particular pass, filming began whilst it was over the Atlantic Ocean. It its closest point, the ISS was above southern England and was 440km away. The last shots show the ISS setting over Germany and the Czech Republic.
