‘No evidence of Russian intrusion in US political system’ – fmr US presidential candidate Ron Paul – RT

Posted: May 13, 2017 at 5:21 am

I think this is good progress between the US and Russia, but there will be plenty of individuals in this country who complain about it because it just seems like they are very content to keep the aggravation going, Ron Paul told RT.

The focus of a meeting between Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday was the de-escalation of the Syrian conflict.

Despite the positive overtones, the American media preferred to take a different angle focusing on the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US elections and the firing of the FBI chief James Comey.

RT:Sergey Lavrov says President Trump wants productive relations with Moscow after the previous administration soured them. Can they be improved considering the storm over the alleged ties between the Trump team and Russia?

Ron Paul: Absolutely. And I think that has been. What is going on right now is an improvement. I think what is going on in Syria with these de-escalation zones; I think that is good. They are talking to each other. I just dont understand why sometimes there is an impression that we shouldnt be having diplomatic conversations All the tough rhetoric doesnt do any good. Trumps statement to me sounded pretty good. I think the whole thing about the elections, putting that aside would be a wise thing because the evidence is not there for any intrusion in our election by the Russians. I think this is good progress, and there will be plenty individuals in this country who complain about it because it just seems like they are very content to keep the aggravation going. Right now, the relationship from my viewpoint has greatly improved. I think that is good.

RT:During the media conference, some journalists again raised the question of possible Russian involvement in US politics. How is it possible for such a great nation to think this way?

RP: If it is a fact, we should hear about it, but we havent. And those individuals who are trying to stir up trouble like that, they havent come up with any facts. Nobody wants anybodys elections interfered with. But the facts arent there, so why dwell on that? Why use that as an excuse to prevent something that we think is positive and that is better relations with Russia. I think what is happening with this conversation is very beneficial.

Unfortunately, Trumps opponents have been able to frame the issue in Washington and also we have a compliant media that is playing into the hands of his opposition. He has made a good point that the [allegations of Russian interference] does look like fiction. I am certainly prepared to believe that Russia had some interference in the election. But can we see a single fact? We havent seen a single fact of it. The media reports it as if it is true. Trump has a very difficult row to hoe if he wants to improve relations with Russia; he is going to have to take a stand and refute some of these things a lot more vociferously than he has. - Daniel McAdams, executive director at Ron Paul Institute

RT:According to Lavrov, Trump also expressed his support for creating safe zones in Syria. Will this pave the way for co-operation between the two coalitions?

RP: With Assad and Russia working together and getting more security for the country, at the same time the US is now talking with Russia. I think this is good. But just the acceptance of the idea that we should be talking and practicing diplomacy rather than threats and intimidation. There are obviously a lot of problems that we have to work out, but I think in the last week and the last couple of days very positive things have been happening.

Elements of our media have made a big deal about contacts Sergei Kislyak [the Russian ambassador to the US] had with various members of Trumps transition and I may add, other politicians, both Democrat and Republican, after all, that is his job as an ambassador to our country to interact with elements of our government... Over here in the US, we talk about the need for fair and balanced coverage. When the reality is in the mainstream press, it is all hard-left, Democrat-favoring Republican-conservative bashing press. - Charles Ortel, political commentator, private investor, writer

RT:The meeting came after the firing of the FBI director James Comey. What do you make of the timing?

RP: I dont think that firing had anything to do with the so-called investigation. I think it has to do with the credibility of Comey as such, where he was involved too politically in the issues. First, it looked like he was supporting Hillary, then the next time he was supporting Trump, and he should not have been out in front on either one of those issues; that should have been done more privately on these charges made that were unconfirmed. I think this represents poor judgment on Comeys part and certainly, the president had the authority to fire him. It will be politicized now, and the question will be whether there will be a special prosecutor, but if there are no problems, then a special prosecutor in my estimation is unnecessary.

Ron Paul Liberty Report: Possible Comey Replacement a Threat to Our Liberties – IVN News

Posted: at 5:21 am

The Ron Paul Liberty report staff penned an opinion piece Thursday that says one person President Donald Trump is considering to replace James Comey as FBI director goes against the presidents promise to #DrainTheSwamp.

In fact, according to the op-ed, he may be part of the swamp and a threat to American liberties.

The White House confirmed that former Congressman Mike Rogers from Michigan is being considered as James Comeys replacement at the FBI.

The President has tweeted multiple times with the hashtag #DrainTheSwamp when referring to his firing of Comey. But when you look at some of the things that Mike Rogers has supported, it makes you wonder if the president is really serious.

For example. In 2013, Rogers literally said with regards to NSA surveillance programs: you cant have your privacy violated if you dont know your privacy is violated, right?

And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

UNLEASHED: RON PAUL HAS WORDS FOR TRUMP

President Trump is about to embark on his first foreign trip, where he will stop in Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican, before attending a NATO meeting in Brussels and the G-7 summit in Sicily. The media and pundits have loudly wondered why hasnt he gone on a foreign trip sooner. I wonder, why go at all? What does the president hope to achieve with these meetings? This is a president who came into office with promises that we would finally start to mind our own business overseas, declares Ron Paul.

Yes, that Ron Paul former presidential hopeful, longtime congressman, constitutionalist, physician, family guy, author, columnist, frugal thinker and independent icon who continues to demand peace and prosperity and personal freedom for Americans. Mr. Paul, in fact, will soon be in the nations capital for a rare and exclusive dinner with a select group of fans, complete with photo-ops and a $500 ticket price.

At 81, he is not done with vigorous, hybrid politics. Mr. Paul continues to insist that the U.S. stop meddling in complicated regions. He also longs for Mr. Trump to honor a campaign promise to end a policy of intervention and chaos overseas.

Yes, well. In a word, its complicated. The previous administration was skittish about red lines and content to lead from behind. Mr. Trump has been left to deal with the aftermath, where security threats and terrorism appear to have flourished in an unprotected vacuum. While the president is fond of robust solutions, hes also a quick study poised to foster a series of workable protocols.

And Ron Paul will be Ron Paul, eager to promote the idea that minding our own business and rejecting militarism makes the nation safer.

Maybe its time for the countries in the Middle East to solve their own problems, he says in a new column, published through the Ron Paul Institute

Many pundits complain that President Trump spends too much time golfing. I would rather he spend a lot more time golfing and less time trying to solve the rest of the worlds problems. We cannot afford to be the policeman or nursemaid to the rest of the world, particularly when we have such a lousy record of success, says Mr. Paul.

THE DEVICES TAKE OVER

CTIA, an trade group that tracks and represents the U.S. wireless communications industry, reports that Americans used 13.72 trillion megabytes of data in 2016. This is the equivalent of 1.58 million years of streaming videos, and 35 times the amount the nation used only five years ago.

There are now more smartphones, laptops and wireless-enabled tablets than people in the U.S. The devices now number 359.9 million, or 1.2 for every U.S. resident.

OBAMALARMISM

Former President Barack Obama looked stylish and relaxed as he arrived in Milan, Italy, on Tuesday just a day after entreating Senate Republicans to save Obamacare. Mr. Obama is in Italy for a two-day trip in which he will meet with former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and speak about climate change at a conference, reports The Daily Mail.

A 14-car convoy ferried Mr. Obama into the city to the hotel where he is staying. He wore shades and went tieless as he stepped out later in the day, waving and smiling to his Italian fans.

Mr. Obama gave a keynote speech on global warming, issuing this dire warning: When it comes to climate change, the hour is almost upon us.

Timing is everything, of course.

Mr. Obamas speech comes as President Trump is considering whether to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate change agreement, which was championed by his predecessor, The Mail noted.

JUST SAY NON to PARIS CLIMATE TREATY

Get us out of Paris, Mr. President. The Paris Climate Treaty, that is. A feisty group of 42 conservative and free market interest groups signed an open letter entreating President Trump to formally withdraw the U.S. from the agreement, signed by then-President Barack Obama and regarded by him as a treaty, though it was never submitted to the Senate for ratification.

The coalition includes The Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, Citizens Against Government Waste, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and the National Center for Public Policy Research, to name just a few.

President Trump has clearly signaled to American voters that his predecessors war on fossil fuels is over; now he needs to tell the rest of the world. Withdrawing from the Paris Climate Treaty would spell this out in neon letters, says Joseph Bast, president of The Heartland Institute, also a coalition member.

Withdrawing completely from Paris is a key part of your plan to protect U.S. energy producers and manufacturers from regulatory warfare not just for the next four years but also for decades to come, the groups write in their lengthy letter to Mr. Trump. We will strongly support your decision to keep your campaign commitment to withdraw.

FOXIFIED

Ignore chatter from Fox News Channel critics who suggest the networks ratings could be faltering. Theyre not, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 18th consecutive week, Fox News is the leading network across the entire cable realm, besting news and non-news offerings alike. Twelve of the top 30 programs aired on Fox News. In the all-important prime-time hours, Fox drew 2.1 million viewers, MSNBC garnered 1.4 million, and CNN 778,000.

POLL DU JOUR

53 percent of Canadians have an unfavorable opinions of Americans, 44 percent have a positive one.

51 percent of Canadians say anti-government populism is not likely to emerge in Canada, 43 percent say it is likely to emerge, 1 percent say it is already happening.

45 percent say Canadians have not changed in the last decade, 27 percent say they have become more like Americans, 26 percent say they are less like Americans.

26 percent of Canadians are changing previous plans to visit the U.S. because of the political climate.

Ron Paul: Donald Trump Should Stay Home, Play Golf – FITSNews

PRESIDENT SHOULDNT TRYTO SOLVE THE WORLDS PROBLEMS

President Donald Trump is about to embark on his first foreign trip, where he will stop in Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the Vatican, before attending a NATO meeting in Brussels and the G-7 summit in Sicily. The media and pundits have loudly wondered why hasnt he gone on a foreign trip sooner. I wonder why go at all?

What does the president hope to achieve with these meetings? This is a president who came into office with promises that we would finally start to mind our own business overseas. In December, he said that the policy of US intervention and chaos overseas must come to an end. Instead, he is jumping into a region the Middle East that has consumed the presidencies of numerous of his predecessors.

On Saudi Arabia, President Trump has shifted his position from criticism of the Saudi regime to a seemingly warm friendship with Saudi deputy crown prince Mohammad bin Salman. He has approved weapons sales to Saudi Arabia that President Obama had halted due to Saudi human rights abuses, particularly in its horrific war on Yemen.

While visiting Saudi Arabia, one of the most extreme theocracies on earth where conversion to Christianity can bring the death penalty President Trump will attend a meeting of Muslim leaders to discuss the threats of terrorism and religious extremism. No, not in Saudi Arabia, but in Iran, where Christianity is legal and thriving!

SPONSORED CONTENT

Perhaps President Trumps flip-flop on Saudi Arabia was inspired by the ten separate Washington, D.C. public relations firms the Kingdom keeps on the payroll, at a cost of $1.3 million per month. That kind of money can really grease the policy wheels in Washington.

From there, the US President will travel to Israel. Does he believe he will finally be able to solve the 70 year old Israel-Palestine conflict by negotiating a good deal? If so, hes in for a surprise.

The problem persists partly because we have been meddling in the region for so long. Doing more of the same is pretty unlikely to bring about a different result. How many billions have we spent propping up allies and bribing others, and were no closer to peace now than when we started. Maybe its time for a new approach. Maybe its time for the countries in the Middle East to solve their own problems. They have much more incentive to reach some kind of deal in their own neighborhood.

Likewise his attendance at the NATO meeting is not very encouraging to those of us who were pleased to hear candidate Trump speak the truth about the outdated military alliance. We dont need to strong-arm NATO members to spend more money on their own defense. We need to worry about our own defense. Our military empire of which NATO is an arm makes us weaker and more vulnerable. Minding our own business and rejecting militarism would make us safer.

Many pundits complain that President Trump spends too much time golfing. I would rather he spend a lot more time golfing and less time trying to solve the rest of the worlds problems. We cannot afford to be the policeman or nursemaid to the rest of the world, particularly when we have such a lousy record of success.

Ron Paul Unleashed: Former Candidate Excoriates Trump and Congress On One Issue After Another – IVN News

Posted: May 6, 2017 at 3:08 am

Dr. Ron Paul, who served 12 terms in the US Congress and became famous when he ran on a libertarian platform for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, has been on a rampage this Spring, excoriating both President Trump and the Republican-held Congress on one issue after another.

Carol Paul must be putting something in her husbands coffee, because the libertarian firebrand (who turns 82 this year) spent the month of April challenging the political establishment with the kind of gusto and pointed criticisms that gained him a devoted global following when he ran for president in 2008 and set two records for the most online donations in a single day to a political candidate in US history.

On the latest government shutdown drama over appropriations, which has become more banal with each passing year since 1995, Ron Paul accused Congress members of using a dysfunctional policy-making process as an excuse for why Washington keeps spending exponentially more of Americans money as time goes on:

This type of brinkmanship has become standard operating procedure on Capitol Hill. The drama inevitably ends with a spending bill being crafted behind closed doors by small groups of members and staffers and then rushed to the floor and voted on before most members have a chance to read it. These omnibus spending bills are a dereliction of one of Congresss two most important duties allocating spending

Congresss dysfunctional spending process is an inevitable result of the governments growth. It is simply unrealistic to expect Congress to fund the modern leviathan via a lengthy and open process that allows individual members to have some say in how government spends their constituents money. The dysfunctional spending process benefits the many politicians eager to avoid accountability for government spending.

Never one to shy from a near-total rebuke of the entire US federal government as critically dysfunctional, Ron Paul ended his editorial by more or less calling Washingtons bluff about the catastrophe of an imminent shutdown and saying it would be great for America if Congress were to shut down most of the federal government, leaving only the departments and agencies that are specifically enumerated in the Constitution.

Regarding rising tensions with North Korea, yet another perennial song and dance like the government shutdown drama, a stable instability spanning decades, Ron Paul contended in a short video that Washington foreign policy deliberately keeps North Korea unstable so that it can play the role of international boogeyman:

Weve been doing this all this time and its almost like [it is] to keep it unstable The instability is [because] we have promised the South Koreans that, We are going to take care of you. We are going to provide your weaponry. We are going to provide your indirect subsidies. We are going to take care of you and were going to make sure that North Korea is held in check. Dont ever talk to them. Dont ever have an open-door policy We need an enemy and for that part of the world, it is North Korea. They serve as the monster in that area.

Interestingly enough, even after candidate Donald Trump promised to save US taxpayers a fortune by making other countries pay for their own national defense, as president he has fallen in line with the foreign policy status quo of extending the US military umbrella to cover South Korea and neighboring countries.

On April 24, just a couple days before publishing a 30-minute interview with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, Ron Paul took President Trump to task for his complete 180 degree turn from the campaign trail to the Oval Office on WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, government transparency, and a free and independent media as a check on political corruption and malfeasance:

Back then he praised Wikileaks for promoting transparency, but candidate Trump looks less like President Trump every day. The candidate praised whistleblowers and Wikileaks often on the campaign trail. In fact, candidate Trump loved Wikileaks so much he mentioned the organization more than 140 times in the final month of the campaign alone! Now, as President, it seems Trump wants Wikileaks founder Julian Assange sent to prison

There is a word for this sudden about-face on Wikileaks and the transparency it provides us into the operations of the prominent and powerful: hypocrisy.

On the other hand, Ron Paul praised Julian Assange and whistleblowers for their role in bringing transparency to government, and called them heroes deserving of respect and admiration, urging Americans not to allow the president to declare war on those who tell the truth.

Long a critic of the US central banking system under the Federal Reserve, Ron Paul took to CNBC on April 29th to warn as he has in the past that the massive increase in the monetary base by the Federal Reserve, which lends the money at a discounted interest rate to large banks, incentivizes massive malinvestment in under-performing sectors of the economy and that a major market correction is due. Before you scoff, remember Ron Paul predicted the Great Recession five years before it happened in 2003:

The special privileges granted to Fannie and Freddie have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital that they could not attract under pure market conditions. Like all artificially created bubbles the boom in housing prices cannot last forever. When housing prices fall homeowners will experience difficulty as their equity is wiped out. Furthermore the holders of the mortgage debt will also have a loss. These losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been

had government policy not actively encouraged over investing in housing. Because so many people will invest in housing the damage will be catastrophic.

This past week on CNBC, Ron Paul said that interest rates held too low for too long will eventually catch up with the economy and cause serious consequences for the stock market. When challenged about that assertions in the wake of Nasdaqs 6,000 point milestone last month, the Texas libertarian pointed out that the Nasdaq was at 5,000 points in the year 2000, and balked, Now its all the way up to 6,000, after what, 17 years? Paul added that his investments in gold have gone from $300/oz in the year 2000 to $1200/oz today.

Every presidential election cycle theres a candidate for one or both of the two major parties nominations who gives voice to the antiwar and foreign interventionism bloc in the US electorate. In 2000 that candidate was George W. Bush ironically enough. In 2004 it was Howard Dean. In 2016 it was Bernie Sanders. Both times Ron Paul ran for president in 2008 and 2012, it was Ron Paul. True to form, Ron Paul came out swinging against the airstrikes in Syria earlier last month:

They needed a so-called excuse to go into Iraq so they concocted stories, and all kinds of things. Thats what this is a part of. If all of this is true, I dont know why they couldnt wait and take a look at it. Right now, I dont see conceivably it doing what they claim because right now its helping ISIS, its helping al-Qaeda, its helping the enemy were supposedly fighting.

The former congressman was referring to the fact that there was very little clear evidence that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the deadly sarin gas attack that happened in Syria, prompting the Trump administration to launch airstrikes. For Ron Paul, who sees the ongoing US involvement in foreign conflicts since World War II as an excuse for big government and a lucrative situation for war profiteers, recent events in Syria look like more of the same:

Theyre terrified that peace was going to break out! Al-Qaeda was on the run, peace talks were happening, and all of a sudden, they had to change, and this changes things dramatically! I dont expect peace talks anytime soon or in the distant future.

Congress ended the week by passing a continuing resolution keeping the government funded for one more week. This stopgap funding bill is designed to give Congress and the White House more time to negotiate a long-term spending bill. Passage of a long-term spending bill has been delayed over objections to Republican efforts to preserve Obamcare's key features but give states a limited ability to opt out of some Obamacare mandates.

This type of brinkmanship has become standard operating procedure on Capitol Hill. The drama inevitably ends with a spending bill being crafted behind closed doors by small groups of members and staffers and then rushed to the floor and voted on before most members have a chance to read it. These omnibus spending bills are a dereliction of one of Congresss two most important duties allocating spending. Of course, Congress long ago abandoned another primary duty preventing presidents from launching military attacks without first obtaining a congressional declaration of war.

The uncomfortable question raised by Congresss abrogation of these two key functions is whether a republican form of government is compatible with a welfare-warfare state. The answer seems to be no.

The rushed process allows these politicians to say they had to vote for the spending bills. Often, these big spending bills include a promise to cut spending in the future. Like tomorrow, the promised spending cuts are always a day away.

If government continues to expand, the economy will continue to stagnate, social tensions and violence will increase, and more power will be concentrated in the hands of the president, bureaucrats, and a select few members of Congress. The only way to avoid this is for Congress to shut down most of the federal government, starting with bringing the troops home and drastically cutting the military-industrial complexs budget. Congress must also close all unconstitutional federal agencies and programs, and wind down federal entitlement programs. A good place to start is the Department of Education. The Federal Reserve must be audited and then ended.

The root of the current crisis is neither political nor economic but philosophical. Too many have bought into the lie that government can protect us from lifes misfortunes and stamp out evil around the world without endangering our liberty, our safety, and our prosperity. Convincing a critical mass of people to reject big government is key to our success.

The breakdown of the congressional appropriations process, combined with hyper-interventionism via the Federal Reserve and foreign policy, suggest we are in the last stages of the welfare-warfare state. Whether this systems inevitable collapse completes our descent into authoritarianism or leads to a restoration of limited, constitutional government and free markets depends on how effective those of us who know the truth are in spreading the ideas of liberty.

Ron Paul: Fed actions to cause long-overdue correction – WND.com

Posted: May 2, 2017 at 10:32 pm

Former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, whos run for president several times, is predicting that the Federal Reserves actions will have serious consequences for the stock market, just as the latest growth figures suggest the economy may have hit a soft patch.

According to government figures released on Friday, the nations gross domestic product fell to 0.7% in the first quarter the lowest rate in three years as personal spending slid to its worst level since 2009. That data came on the heels of a jobs report that showed the economy created far fewer jobs in March than the prior month, even as the unemployment rate fell.

Paul told CNBC a correction is inevitable, even as investors cheer the Nasdaq Composites new record highs.

We spend too much, we borrow too much, and we distort the markets, said Paul on Trading Nation this week. The bigger the distortions have lasted, the bigger the bust will be.

Ron Paul To Interview Julian Assange Today On His Liberty Report – The Liberty Conservative

Posted: April 28, 2017 at 2:33 pm

Libertarian stalwart Ron Paul will broadcast an interview with Wikileaks Julian Assange today, following recent news of President Trumps Department of Justice potentially pursuing criminal charges against the controversial whistleblower.

The CIA has been deeply humiliated as a result of our ongoing publications so this is a preemptive move by the CIA to try and discredit our publications and create a new category for Wikileaks and other national security reporters to strip them of First Amendment protections, Assange said in a teaser clip from the interview that will air today at Noon on the Ron Paul Liberty Report.

After celebrating its ten year anniversary in 2016, Wikileaks has stepped up their operations considerably. They published leaked e-mails of top Democratic Party operatives last October, possibly swinging the election in Trumps favor. This prompted then-candidate Trump to infamously say, I love WikiLeaks!

However, Trumps love affair with Wikileaks was to be very short-lived. After Trump assumed power, Wikileaks dumped their Vault 7 disclosures, which exposed the full capability of the CIAs hacking program. This prompted CIA director Mike Pompeo to call Wikileaks a non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia that must be denied the latitude to use free speech values against us.

Candidate Trump loved Wikileaks so much he mentioned the organization more than 140 times in the final month of the campaign alone! Now, as President, it seems Trump wants Wikileaks founder Julian Assange sent to prison, Ron Paul wrote in his weekly column.

Assange is expected to discuss the increasing persecution from the Trump administration as well as other crucial topics with Paul during the broadcast. One thing can be sure: These two enemies of the state will certainly pull no punches when it comes to exposing the military-industrial complex. The interview will be broadcast in its entirety at 12pm on the Ron Paul Liberty Report, which can be accessed from his Youtube page.

Ron Paul on New Syria Sanctions and Still Unproven Gas Attack Claim – Antiwar.com (blog)

Posted: April 27, 2017 at 1:33 am

President Trump has yet to provide any credible evidence that the gas attack in Syria earlier this month was carried out by Assad, and in the meantime very serious questions about the veracity of White House claims are arising from very credible experts. Yet the Administration seems ever more determined now that it has done a 180 degree turn and demanded regime change for Syria. Late last week the White House announced sanctions on 271 Syrian scientists who Trump claims are working on chemical weapons. The proof? None. How to explain this sudden embrace of the neocon line on Syria and elsewhere? It might be telling that according to recent press reports the architect of the disastrous Iraq war, Paul Wolfowitz, is lending advice on the Middle East to Defense Secretary Mattis and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster. They have all apparently been friends for years. More in todays Ron Paul Liberty Report:
