Rand Paul tweets fake phone call between Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton. Internet yawns.

Posted: January 31, 2015 at 4:42 am

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) seems not so much to be running for President, but King of the Internet or King of Silly Snark instead.

The latest?

He tweeted out a fake phone call between Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton that hits them on their dynastic roots. Yes, the son of a three-time presidential candidate/Texas Congressman is hitting someone else for coming from a political family.

You see, Paul really doesn't like that the same candidates run again and again and thinks the American public shouldn't either. (Sidenote: Ron Paul ran for president in 1988, 2008 and 2012.)

As for the phone call here's the "transcript" (or listen here):

BUSH: Hey, Hill. Its Jeb.

CLINTON: Hey, Jeb. To what do I owe this pleasure?

BUSH: Well, its true. Im thinking about running for president.

CLINTON: Well, Jeb, so am I.

BUSH: I just wanted to call and give you a heads-up in hopes we could work something out.

Rand Paul Wins Support in Cruz, Perry Backyard

Posted: at 9:41 pm

Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) is stealing political support from his rivals backyard.

Texas GOP Chairman Steve Munisteri is set to announce Friday that he is resigning his party post in early March and joining Mr. Pauls team of advisers for a possible 2016 presidential campaign.

Mr. Munisteri, in throwing in with Mr. Paul, is giving a cold shoulder to Texas Republicans thinking about presidential bids, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

He gives a boost to Mr. Paul in a crowded field of potential GOP candidates in a state that will loom much larger in the GOP nominating process in 2016 than in the past. The state is expected to hold its primary March 1, which could make it one the first big, vote-rich states in the presidential calendar.

The announcement is part of a broader intensification of jockeying for the 2016 campaign as potential candidates are not just amassing staff and cultivating donors, but they are already competing with each other for resources.

Mr. Munisteri said he was backing Mr. Paul because he has known him since he was a young campus activist, and because the senator has made efforts to reach out to new constituencies such as young people and African Americans who have traditionally not been well-represented in the GOP.

Ive known the senator for 33 years and what Im most impressed with about him is his commitment to expand the partys reach, said Mr. Munisteri. Our party cannot be successful, we cannot retake the White House if we do not do a better job of reaching out. Senator Paul has had that message since hes been in office.

Mr. Paul has Texas roots of his own. His father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, ran multiple presidential campaigns with strong support from libertarian conservatives. He grew up in Texas and went to college at Baylor University where he was a leader of a campus group, Young Conservatives for Texas, which had been founded in 1980 by Mr. Munisteri.

Mr. Munisteri has wide fundraising connections in Texas, where he has been chairman of the Texas GOP since mid-2010 as well as experience on several national presidential campaigns. He did not, however, back any of Ron Pauls presidential bids. He supported Mr. Perry in 2012.

Were really pleased to have Steve and his experience joining Team Rand, said Doug Stafford, a senior Paul aide. Im sure there are many folks in Texas who would be happy to have his support but he has chosen Sen. Paul because he has the best chance to win nationally.

Rand Paul reintroduces Audit the Fed bill

Posted: at 8:41 pm

Sen. Rand Paul on Wednesday reintroduced legislation to force a government watchdog audit of the Federal Reserve, and the bill has its best chance yet of finally clearing Congress.

Mr. Pauls father, former Rep. Ron Paul, pioneered the push for the legislation during his time in the House, and turned it into a potent political weapon during his presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012. His son, the senator, who is eyeing a 2016 presidential bid, has picked up the banner.

A complete and thorough audit of the Fed will finally allow the American people to know exactly how their money is being spent by Washington, the senator said in a statement. The Feds currently operates under a cloak of secrecy and it has gone on for too long.

His legislation has 30 sponsors, including Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, the sole Senate Democrat who has signed onto the bill as of now.

In a statement, Ms. Hirono praised the Fed for helping the economy recover from the 2008 slump.

That said, were now far enough away from the financial crisis for a full and transparent review of the actions taken on behalf of American taxpayers, she said. Greater transparency will help us prevent another Great Recession, and I believe will increase the American publics confidence in the Fed rather than diminishing it.

A similar bill has cleared the House twice in recent years with overwhelming support, including about half of House Democrats. But Sen. Harry Reid, who was majority leader of the Senate until his partys catastrophic election losses last year, blocked Senate action.

New Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican along with Mr. Paul, is a co-sponsor of the audit bill, and it is likely to receive a vote at some point.

Both Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, two other Republicans pondering White House runs, lSO joined as co-sponsors.

The Fed has expanded its balance sheet fivefold, yet economic growth is still tepid, businesses are sitting on cash, and median income and household wealth are depressed, Mr. Cruz said in a statement.
