Bitcoin: After Nearly 14 years, Has BTC Met Expectations? – BeInCrypto

Bitcoin: Freedom, backed by real-world utility, and a solid tokenomics will enable the fulfillment of Bitcoins original mission, says Jin Gonzalez, Chief Architect of Oz Finance.

When the worlds first cryptocurrency was born in 2008 most people hadnt heard of it, and those that had didnt understand it or made it a punchline.

Things have changed drastically since then. And not just the price of Bitcoin, which rose from a fraction of a penny to close to $70,000 in November 2021, and back to around $20,000 over the last several months. This exciting period witnessed new industries grow, expand, and trigger other sub-industries.

Bitcoin has been the driving force behind all of it, establishing itself as the benchmark store of value and means of exchange with over 81 million wallets in existence. Still, its becoming increasingly clear the worlds first cryptocurrency has yet to fulfill its promise of gaining global adoption as a functioning legal currency, or as an inflation hedge.

In addition to not achieving widespread adoption as a functioning currency, Bitcoin, or any cryptocurrency for that matter, hasnt provided the benefits and freedoms that they originally intended.

In the early days of Bitcoin, staunch advocates believed that the coin would offer complete discretion, privacy, security, and most importantly financial independence. Despite there still being many hardcore Bitcoin believers, many began to realize that Bitcoins public nature doesnt ensure all this because its quite easy to track transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain.

People are still taxed on profit realized on Bitcoin. The blockchain can be used to identify individuals and monitor transactions, and the ledger can be used as evidence against an individual who is compelled to submit their KYC. Then Bitcoin, and by extension all crypto, expanded its vision of freeing the masses from traditional finance to other use cases. That is, as a hyper-secure and efficient transfer of value, a store of value, an inflation hedge.

That didnt quite work out. Instead, it finds itself mimicking the stock market and, in particular tech stocks, albeit with higher degrees of volatility. This doesnt bode well for those who sought to diversify their portfolios in defense against exploding inflation. The current on-going market downturn has exposed Bitcoin as not being truly independent of the mainstream financial world. This is due to its fluctuations being in lockstep with international markets.

Bitcoin actually got a second chance to prove itself as a functioning currency when El Salvador became the first country to pass legislation making Bitcoin a legal tender. But even after that, many businesses in the country El Salvador were unable to accept Bitcoin for a myriad of reasons. And this is on top of a laundry list of other problems plaguing the Bitcoin launch in the small Central American nation of six million.

El Salvadors half-baked launch of Bitcoin so far hasnt produced the results that many citizens and Bitcoin evangelists were hoping for, when the historical announcement was made last summer. Given the idea that Bitcoin hasnt provided the basic freedoms it sought to enable, do cryptocurrencies have a real future going forward?

Crypto has staying power, and this bear cycle has enabled an industry-wide shift that has refocused the emphasis on building. The previous bull cycle placed too much emphasis on token launches and hype. But not enough on building actual products and services to support the tokens value. This is being corrected as we speak, but the industry is still suffering from a lack of real-world utility.

Crypto and blockchain projects need to go a different route than they have been. Instead of rushing to pump a new hyped-up token into the oversaturated market, the focus should be on how to provide the benefits that Bitcoin and blockchain initially intended. This means providing financial freedom through privacy protection, balanced regulatory cover, and a fair-tax regime. Now neither Bitcoin or any other major token or cryptocurrency truly provide this.

Crypto and the greater Web3 environment is still full of potential. But to ensure that this bear cycle produces results, the main priority needs to focus on the freedoms of privacy, regulatory, and tax protections. These freedoms, backed by real-world utility, and a solid tokenomics will enable the fulfillment of Bitcoins original mission.

An ideal token should think big but act local at the onset, meaning gaining recognition and regulation from a national or regional government before expanding or doing an IDO (initial DEX offering). Legal reviews and smart-contract audits can be leveraged to provide transparency and build credibility. This lays the groundwork for legal onboarding into a structured environment with proper regulatory cover.

Crypto projects must wake up and realize Bitcoin has fallen short. If the industry is going to spur a financial revolution and usher us into a Web3 future, it needs to be done by a coin that provides something more than just speculative hype. A crypto industry that prioritizes developing and innovating new products and services, while offering these freedoms, will indirectly benefit Bitcoin as it would benefit the entire crypto ecosystem. Going forward it is imperative that we support projects and use cases that translate in the real world or else this bear market will never go into hibernation.

We must strive to improve these scores and limit outside stressors to protect the next generation. Our children cope with pressures that prior generations have not necessarily faced. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five children, either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness. Last month, the Drug Enforcement Administration warned families of rainbow-colored fentanyl targeting children. And according to Everytown Research and Policy, there have been at least 113 incidents of gunfire on school grounds, resulting in 41 deaths and 82 injuries nationally this year alone. These statistics are alarming and must be reversed.

ESPN Expands Betting Content With Eye Toward Own Sportsbook – Front Office Sports

ESPN is still exploring the launch of its own branded sportsbook. As the Worldwide Leader in Sports seeks to join the sports betting gold rush, the network is beefing up its content portfolio.

Just in time for football season, the network has promoted Doug Kezirian to Sports Betting Insider.

The Las Vegas-based Kezirian has hosted ESPNs sports betting news/information show, Daily Wager, since its launch in March 2019.

With the move, ESPN is seeking to position Kezirian as the Adam Schefter or Adrian Wojnarowski of sports betting, said one source.

Kezirian will continue to appear on Daily Wager and author multiple betting columns each week on ESPN.com, including last-minute betting advice and picks for Saturdays and Sundays.

Other changes:

Fans are craving sports betting content, and ahead of and during football season we want to provide it to them, said Scott Clark, ESPNs vice president, fantasy & sports betting content.

We have added some talented minds to the diverse and well-respected industry experts we already have, and are implementing new creative ideas into the mix. Now were just ready to watch it all unfold starting with football season.

With more than half of U.S. states legalizing sports betting (including its home state of Connecticut), ESPN has been in negotiations with potential sports betting partners about launching its own branded sportsbook.

ESPN has talked about licensing its famous four letters to sports betting giants such as DraftKings, Caesars, and FanDuel, said sources. Such a deal could fetch up to $3 billion for ESPN and parent The Walt Disney Co., according to the Wall Street Journal.

During an earnings call, Disney chief executive officer Bob Chapek confirmed his company is exploring a move into the $165 billion sports betting industry.

Sports fans that are under 30 absolutely require this, Chapek said.

ESPN has had co-exclusive marketing deals with DraftKings and Caesars since September 2020.

Disney inherited roughly 6% of DraftKings through its $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The two companies have been in business together since 2015 when ESPN named DraftKings its official Daily Fantasy offering across platforms.

Activist investor Daniel Loeb is lobbying Disney to spin off ESPN; in part because it would give the sports network more flexibility with betting.

On Wednesday, Disney chief financial officer Christine McCarthy shut down talk of a spinoff, saying the company likes the hand we have with ESPN.

Were down to the final four on both the mens and womens side of the U.S. Open. I appeared on The Sweat for DraftKings this morning to break down two bets I see the most value in on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Tonight, Im focusing on what should be an incredible match between Ons Jabeur and Caroline Garcia. Despite being the higher seed, Jabeur is actually the underdog in this match, and its easy to see why. Ons has been challenged a few times throughout this tournament, while Garcia hasnt dropped a set yet and is fresh off a huge win over Coco Gauff.

All of that said, I actually like Jabeur in this matchup, for one major reason. MLB Picks for September 9: Baseball Best Bets, Predictions, Odds on DraftKings Sportsbook – DraftKings Nation

It doesnt happen often, but last nights was about as sweat-free a card as I can remember this season. I mean, we couldve taken the White Sox by a touchdown against the Athletics, because the run line was decided quickly. The first two batters of the game hit solo home runs! It truly couldnt have gone better.

A nice 2-0 night puts our record on article plays at 65-57 for the season. Here are three more plays on the diamond.

Lets go right back to the well, shall we? I wont sugarcoat how terrible Giolito has pitched since the All-Star break, yet it is worth pointing out that the right-hander has looked far more comfortable pitching on the road in 2022. Across 69.0 innings in the split, Giolito has managed a respectable 3.91 ERA, while hes only surrendered 1.30 home runs per nine. Again, were dealing with a low bar at this point, but I think pitching at the extremely pitcher-friendly Coliseum can only help Giolito. If he can at least work into the sixth inning this evening, this prop should be very obtainable.

The reason for my optimism is pretty clear: The Athletics stink. The club has certainly hit for more power in the second-half of the season the return of Ramon Laureano doesnt hurt, either yet at the end of the day, this is a team with a .275 wOBA versus RHPs. Over the last two weeks specifically, Oakland owns MLBs highest swinging strike rate (13.4%) and the American Leagues highest strikeout rate (27.7%). I believe even Giolito can take advantage.

The only worry with a prop like this is intent. What exactly are the Reds wanting from the final month of this season? Are they putting their best foot forward to win every night? Or are they maybe in the business of being overprotective of a young arm? To me, I dont think we have to be too mindful of the latter when it comes to Lodolo. At least not yet. While Lodolos started 18 games across three levels in 2022, hes not even surpassed 90.0 innings of work so far this season. Hes also managed over 100 pitches in each of his past two outings the first time in his career hes done so in consecutive appearances. All signs point to their being no current limitations with the lefty.

Those two starts were really good, too. In fact, Lodolos sporting a 2.89 ERA and a 3.22 FIP in his last eight outings. In five of those contests, usually the ones where walks werent a massive issue, the rookie was able to record at least 17 outs. With the Brewers having struggled against left-handed pitching all season long they own the third-highest strikeout rate within the split and just a 87 wRC+ I like Lodolos chances of going deep once again. Six innings shouldnt be an issue.

Im not sure people realize just how good Striplings been this season for the Blue Jays. An early-season injury to Hyun-Jin Ryu forced the veteran into the teams rotation, where Stripling has posted a 2.91 ERA and a 2.93 FIP across 19 starts. Some of that success has been Toronto generally shielding Stripling from facing opposing hitters a third time through, yet its mostly been due to the development of a change-up. The veteran threw the pitch only 15.3% of the time in 2021. In 2022? Hes using it in 26.7% of counts and its garnered an insane 34.1% whiff rate.

The Jays are also no longer overly protective of Stripling. Hes worked at least six innings in each of his past four starts and five of his last seven overall with one of the outings he failed to do so coinciding with a glute issue that landed the RHP on the 15-day injured list. Toronto is starting a stretch of 11 games in 10 days on Friday. The team is likely going to be going with a bullpen game on Sunday, as it is. I think the Jays will be looking to get all the length they can from Stripling this evening, going up against a Texas lineup thats been far better when facing southpaws this season.

This prop will need Mookie Betts to record at least 1 RBI and the Los Angeles Dodgers will need to beat the San Diego Padres on Friday night. Betts is batting .280 on the season and has 74 RBIs on the season. He has just 4 RBIs in the month of September through 7 games, however; all 4 of those RBIs came against the Padres in a series earlier this month. The Dodgers will be facing Mike Clevinger tonight, who has an ERA of 3.96. Our experts also are confident in a Dodgers win, so backing Betts to also produce more offense against the Padres looks to be worth a play on Friday night.

This prop will need the Central Florida Knights to score at least 40 points against the Louisville Cardinals and they will also need to win the game. UCF easily won their week 1 game, beating South Carolina State by a score of 56-10. They had a total of 600 yards of offense, led by quarterback, John Rhys Plumlee, who threw for 308 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Louisville on the other hand, were crushed by Syracuse in week 1, losing 31-7. Their defense was torched and that is likely not going to change on Friday night. Our experts do like the Cardinals to cover tonight, behind an improved game from quarterback, Malik Cunningham. The Knights should still have no trouble scoring, so for that reason, backing this prop looks to be worth a lean.

Michigan: 888’s SI Sportsbook to replace TwinSpires as Island Resort operator’s online sports betting brand – Yogonet International

The Michigan Gaming Control Board has approved 888 Holdings VHL, Michigan LLC as the new platform provider for the Hannahville Indian Communitys online sports betting site effective Wednesday, Sept. 7. The tribe, which operates Island Resort & Casino in Harris, entered an agreement with 888 which runs SI Sportsbook after Churchill Down's TwinSpires, the original platform provider, announced earlier this year its plans to exit the business.

The Hannahville tribe is the first operator in Michigan to change platform providers since internet gaming and sports betting began here in January 2021, said Henry Williams, MGCB executive director, in an official press release Wednesday. The tribe has found another experienced partner, and I wish them continued success.

The site will operate under the Sports Illustrated brand name. At this time, the tribe and 888 Holdings have requested the MGCB to authorize online sports betting only, but they likely will seek approval for online gaming later this year. TwinSpires will no longer be offering online sports betting or online casino services.

The Hannahville Indian Community was among 10 licensees initially authorized by the MGCB to launch both forms of internet gaming in Michigan on Jan. 22, 2021. In mid-April, the MGCB authorized the states 15th internet gaming and sports betting operator. Licenses by law are limited to the commercial casinos and federally recognized tribes in Michigan.

In February, CDI said it is exiting the online casino and sports betting businesses, as Chief Executive Officer William Carstanjen told investors in a conference call. The Kentucky Derby operator, however, said it would still maintain its web-based horse betting operations.

CDIs departure from the sports gaming vertical was expected to happen over the following six months, according to company officials.The business will still maintain retail sportsbook operations in its casinos and try to sell market-access rights to other operators where appropriate.

For some time now, the rumor that CDI wanted to sell its sports and iGaming operations grew bigger.In December,Bloombergreported the company was exploring deals for its sportsbook product, working with an adviser to solicit potential interest in the wagering platform.At the time, it was saidTwinSpirescould fetch about $1.5 billion in a transaction.
