NEWS: Santigold returns with futuristic ‘High Priestess’ video – God Is In The TV – God Is In The TV
Posted: May 23, 2022 at 11:44 am
Santigold has returned with her new song, High Priestess, and an accompanying video short.
The video short is a stand-alone piece that evokes the emotions and themes of High Priestess, with skittering beats, glacial synths and quick-fire vocals, it blurs the lines between rap, punk and synth wave and pulses with a primal release. Confined by the pandemic and isolated from her creative community, Santi went inward to reconnect with her personal strength and purpose to create this invocation to gather your powers.
Santi shares the songs inspiration and creation:
I had started working on this beat and I didnt have anything in mind for a topic, I just knew I wanted to do a sort of rap punk song (as dangerous as that sounds). My buddy Ray Brady and I started working on something, trying to add in all the elements that made sense, kicks, subs, new wave synths. Boys Noize ended up bringing something super cool that really built the song and made me get even more excited about it. It was coming along quickly, until it wasnt. The punk rock energy, the angst, that I wanted to come across wasnt quite there. I tried adding guitar and a live drum kit, and that was a big red buzzer X. I ended up tagging in Psymun (Simon Christensen) who brought in Ryan Olson, and they brought the final missing element. The energy I was looking for couldnt be the old version of punk rock, it had to be the future sound of punk rock. They brought the angst, the push and pull that was missing, but it was very fresh sounding and totally unexpected. It all came together in a way I could never have imagined when we started, but it was exactly what I set out to make. I want to make music that sounds like the past and the future all in one; music that makes you feel safe enough to jump in, but then takes us on a journey to where we needed to go but have never even heard of. I want my music to be the bridge.
I love working in this way, a communal effort, a meeting of minds and hearts to make something that is a true collaboration, more than any of the single parts themselves. For me, music is about community, its a way to connect, both in the making of it and in the listening to it. I made this song over the past two years during the pandemic, and was desperate for this type of connection. I started working on it in my studio with Ray a few weeks before the first lockdown in 2020, but after that, I was completely by myself in a room. Part of the time, I was in a room in a cabin in the middle of the woods in Canada, completely isolated. Technology was amazing though, because I felt like I was hanging out with these guys the whole time. My engineer recorded me on my computer in my studio from afar. Boys Noize and I hung out everyday on Zoom and talked and laughed more than wed had a chance to in years. I worked with Simon for the first time in this way, over Zoom with us in different countries, and immediately figured out what I love about him as a producer. It was like teleporting a vibe into the studio, being able to sit for hours face to face working on songs together.
I had also been in just Mom mode for months, and it was like finding gold to have found a cabin to escape to during the days, to run away and be with music and friends after having not had the opportunity to do that for months on end. It literally saved my spirit. And that brings us to the name of the song. I called this song High Priestess because this song was about my greatness. I needed to be a witness to myself at that point, calling out my own power, my own fortitude, my own wisdom, because I felt like I had become disconnected from it, having been stripped out of the rhythm of life that I had cultivated for myself, and thrust into this smaller, one-dimensional version of myself, grounded and isolated for too long. The lyrics are fun though, rap lyrics in general, boastful, cocky, but thats what I was talking about underneath it all.
High Priestessis her first solo release since 2018.Santigolds songs are entire worlds meticulously built, brick by brick, by a master architect who incisively speaks to the present while shaping the future. In the midst of all the struggles of the past couple of years, she shares, I decided to create the future, to look towards where we are going, to create beauty and pull towards that beauty. I need that for myself, but its also there for whoever else needs it.

NASA Glenn Research Center is on a building binge to update its Brook Park and Perkins Township campuses as part of a multiyear master plan to replace or renovate its buildings, which are mostly mid-century structures.
The center opened a Research Support Building this past January at its headquarters, Lewis Field in Brook Park. Meanwhile, crews are raising an Aerospace Communications Facility at Lewis, due to open late this fall.
The two projects cost about $91 million and follow about $100 million worth of construction and renovation from 2009 to 2020. Those past projects include the 307-acre Lewis Field, next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and Glenns 6,740-acre Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility in Perkins Township, near Sandusky.
All of these projects precede another $180 million worth of proposed work at Glenns campuses over the next 10 years, pending approval from NASA leaders.
Officials say that the building boom reflects national confidence in Glenn, one of NASAs 10 major centers.
The federal governments investment in our new buildings, facility upgrades, and ongoing infrastructure improvements demonstrate the health of NASAs Glenn Research Center and its strategic importance to fulfilling the agencys mission and vision, says Glenns news chief, Jan Wittry.
During its 81 years, Glenn has revved up global science and the local economy. It spent about $800 million during fiscal 2021. It employs about 1,500 civil servants and 1,700 contract workers.
Glenn tests airplanes, spaceships, and astronauts for government and industry in some of the world s biggest wind tunnels, vacuum chambers, and zero-gravity shafts. It plays key roles in the current Artemis missionwhich aim to return astronauts to the moon and eventually take them to Mars.
The center holds 217 active patents. It has licensed 141 commercial spinoffs in the past 10 years. It has won 127 prestigious research and development (R&D) Awards, more than any other NASA center. It has even won an Emmy for improving radio technology.
But Glenns campuses hardly create the look of leaders of the space age. The campuses consist of many scattered buildingsmostly squat, mid-century, masonry structures with few windowsand Lewis is split by a lush, winding ravine.
NASA Glenn's Aerospace Communication Facility is under construction.
The master plan would reduce the campuses square footage from 3.5 million in 2008 to 2.3 million square feet in 2037. The goal is to bring workers together in contemporary, energy-efficient, time-efficient structures in better surroundings, including restored wetlands at Armstrong Test Facility and a restored outdoor gathering area at Glenn that will be renamed Wright Commons.
Namesakes Orville and Wilbur Wright, John Glenn, and Neil Armstrong were, of course, leaders in flight from Ohio. George Lewis was an exception: a leader at the headquarters of whats now NASA.
The Research Support Building and Wright Commons anchor a hub that officials call downtown Glenn. No matter where you work on campus, this is a home base to interact, says architect Aaron Hill of Bialosky, who teamed with fellow architects Andrea Steele of New York and Enrique Norten of Mexico. Bialosky is best known for its designs of Edgewater Beach House, the Van Aken District, and Cuyahoga Community Colleges Metro Campus Center.
Like other workplaces, NASA Glenn has let many employees work at home during the pandemic. But the agency now expects most of them to be on campus most days.
By May, 70 workers had moved into the new 60,000-square-foot, two-story Research Support Building. More than 90 additional employees were expected to join them by years end.
Many other workers will stop by for hoteling, networking, and conferencing, dining, and more. The building houses the campus switchboard, cafeteria, credit union, exchange store, human services department, and high-tech workspaces of different sizes and kinds.
The facility features sleek glass and aluminum reminiscent of NASAs aircrafts and spacecrafts. Natural light pours through big textured windows into two atriums and their surroundings. A new parking lot has bicycle racks and also spaces reserved for fuel-efficient vehicles. The building has won Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification for energy efficiency.
The second-story cafeteria overhangs Wright Commons and a patio with many tables. Across a campus road, a smaller building will be razed soon to restore the commons original size.
The overall Research Support project is expected to cost $44.1 million.Meanwhile, crews broke ground in March on a $47 million project to unite workers from seven buildings in an Aerospace Communications Building, designed by Chicago-based Ross Barney Architects. In 54,000 square feet, scientists will work together on one of Glenns specialtiescommunications systems for space, with spinoffs for aviation, the military and industry.
Glenns upgrade, begun last decade, has featured a new Mission Integration Center adjoining Wright Commons and a renovated building at Armstrong now called the Space Environments Complex. Officials hope over the next 10 years to build facilities for space materials, structures, propulsion, and power at Lewis and two support buildings at Armstrong.

Okinawa and Tacita set up joint venture for production of futuristic electric two-wheelers and power train – Manufacturing Today India
Posted: at 11:44 am
Okinawa Autotech and Italian manufacturer Tacita entered into a joint venture to form a new company that will be based in India and will commence production in 2023. The main purpose of the new Joint Venture is to pursue, for both companies, the goal of lowering the use of fossil fuels as well as establishing themselves in the future as a top player in the world of electric two-wheelers.
The joint venture between Okinawa, a leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer from India with Tacita, the Italian manufacturer of electric and performance motorcycles will consist of two product lines, scooters and motorcycles. Both lines are meant for the domestic and international markets. The year 2023 range will include a scooter and a high-end performance motorcycle. The entire range will be equipped with the best connectivity systems on the market having Okinawa technology. Tacita will provide the powertrain controller, motor, battery packs and BMS, the result of over 10 years of research and development and testing in extreme conditions which makes them excel in making state-of-the-art high-performance products.
The next steps of the new-born company will be during 2022 going up to the first half of 2023 for the design, development, patenting and finally the tests on the road. The design will be developed in Italy at the TACITA headquarters with Okinawa professional technicians and Italian team for the development of the powertrain, battery packs and BMS.
Road tests will be carried out both in India and Italy in all weather conditions; to the frost of the Winter Alps to the humidity of the Indian monsoons. Part of the tests should include an inaugural voyage from Okinawa headquarters in India to the Tacita headquarters in Italy. The goal for both companies is and has always been to offer extremely reliable, pleasant and usable products for maximum customer satisfaction.
Tacita has offerings for recreational, competitive off-roads, and electric superbikes with a holistic no-emission engine. Tacita designs and manufactures its own Power Train, controller, motor, and battery pack with BMS, leading to the consequent manufacture of true machine or real off-road. Leveraging Tacitas capabilities, the bikes would go into production early next year at the second facility of Okinawa in Rajasthan.
Carbon emissions are leading to global warming at an alarming pace. India emitted 2.88 Gt CO2 in 2021. As per the data by the Centre for Science and Environment, the level is pegged to touch 4.48 Gt by 2030 and India plans to cut it by 1 Gt for the same period. This indicates a pressing need for transitioning to renewable energy. Electric mobility can aid in taking a step towards reducing carbon footprint to create a clean and green economy.

Apple Car Might Look Like A Futuristic Spaceship And It Will Be Powered By Virtual Reality – Optic Flux
Posted: at 11:43 am
Starting last year, there have been a few reports about an Apple automobile. Even while we actually know that the company is working on an electric automobile, we havent heard of any specific characteristics it will have.
The reported EV, based on the most recent claim, will have virtual reality technology. But theres a caveat: pertaining to the newest Apple patent, it wont sport any window panels.
Virtual reality should be included in the Apple Car, a product of the computer giant. While the study states that the self-driving vehicle would continue to employ virtual reality tech, it appears that it will not encourage the usage of windows.
Many individuals, especially those whove been monitoring each Apple Car story in the news, were taken aback by this rumor. Certainly, its odd to think that the future generation of automobiles might delete the elements that we see now.
A dismal automobile from the tomorrow is what it seems to be. Despite its futuristic appearance, some individuals find it unnerving since they cant see the external world when using it.
The EVs VR based environment would be significantly enhanced by the use of a Virtual reality headset, according to the document. Video conversations while on the go are likely to benefit from the usage of this particular gadget.
In addition, this headgear device may be used by passengers to enjoy games or music streams on the go.
Worth noting that the patent argues that the VR headset might be an efficient tool for combating travel sickness caused by the windowless layout, which should be taken into consideration.
Seeing what Apple has planned for this vehicle is exciting. We still dont know whether Apple plans to produce this alleged electric car, despite the fact that the giant has filed a patent for it.
Not all patents are certain to become legitimate products in the long term, even if theyve been granted. The corporation may only use it as a starting point for new innovations or developments.

Best AV Receivers in 2022 – Futurism
Posted: at 11:43 am
Three components are required to create a home theater system: a TV (or projector), speakers, and an AV (audio / video) receiver. An AV receiver is the piece that connects the source of your audio a record player, for instance to your speakers. This piece of equipment can also carry a video signal from a game console, Blu-ray player, or PC to your television.
What makes AV receivers special is they can handle both tasks at the same time. If youre playing a video game, the AV receiver can route audio to the speakers and video to your television without any lag. AV receivers may not get as much attention as a big-screen 4K TV or floor-standing speakers, but its just as important, so dont skimp out when you get one. If youre setting up your first home theater system, or upgrading the one you already have, having the best AV receiver is a good place to start.
Best Overall: Marantz NR1711 Best Budget: Sony STRDH190 Best for Gaming: Pioneer Elite VSX-LX105 Best for Streaming: Denon PMA-600NE
Our AV receiver recommendations are based on a mix of research and hands-on testing. Below are the factors we considered most highly when deciding which AV Receivers to include in this buyers guide.
Inputs: The amount of inputs an AV receiver has will determine how many components can be hooked up to it at the same time. Modern AV receivers are typically equipped with several HDMI ports, RCA (red, yellow, and white) ports, and ports that allow you to add a subwoofer to your system. You probably wont upgrade your AV receiver very often, so its very important to choose one that has enough inputs to handle all of your gear.
Phono Amp: Some AV receivers have a built-in phono preamp, which means they can amplify the sound of a turntable to a listenable level. Many newly made record players have a built-in phono preamp, but many older ones dont. High-end turntables are specifically designed without a preamp because the companies are totally focused on making sure the table itself is as good as possible. The bottom line is that if you care about listening to records, you should get an AV receiver with a phono amp.
Wireless Connectivity: An AV receivers inputs are important, but we also like models that allow you to stream media to them wirelessly over Bluetooth or WiFi. Lets face it, its convenient to stream music from your phone to your speakers, so you should think about getting an AV receiver that supports this feature.
Stereo or 5.1: The world of AV receivers can be broken down into two categories: Stereo and 5.1.
Stereo AV receivers can be connected to two speakers and a subwoofer in many cases and are a good option if you dont have a lot of space for speakers in your home theater. Stereo AV receivers are also a good choice if youre primarily going to listen to music, which is generally mixed in stereo only.
A 5.1 AV receiver can be connected to five speakers, plus a subwoofer, which allows you to listen to music, watch movies, and play games in surround sound. The media youre enjoying needs to have a surround-sound audio mix in order for you to take full advantage of all five speakers, and youll need enough space for all that hardware, but we think its worth the investment for serious movie lovers and gamers. The level of audio immersion you experience from a 5.1 surround-system is truly incredible, and getting the right AV receiver is key.
Maximum Video Resolution: An AV receiver can pass a video signal between your source component and TV, but make sure to get one that supports resolutions up to 4K for the best experience. If you get an AV receiver that only supports full HD video, you wont be able to watch 4K movies or play games in 4K on your 4K TV. The AV receiver will require you to lower your source components video output resolution, which in turn will make whatever youre trying to enjoy look blurrier than it should on your TV.
Size: AV receivers can get very large, which is cumbersome if youre trying to set up a home theater system in a smaller space. Weve done our best to find AV receivers of different sizes to help you find the one that best fits your area.
Why It Made The Cut: In terms of performance, features, and industrial design, Marantzs NR1711 has no peers.
Specs: Type: 5.1 Phono Preamp: Yes Wireless Connectivity: Yes
Pros:
Compact size Support for 8K video passthrough and Dolby Atmos Smarthome support
Cons: Expensive Cumbersome menu navigation
If not for its fairly steep (though totally justified) price, Marantzs NR1711 is the only AV receiver wed recommend.
Marantz clearly took the time to study the most significant complaints people have with AV receivers, and addressed them. That starts with size: The NR1711 is an extremely compact piece of tech. In fact, its the only model in this guide that would fit comfortably in the media console we typically use for testing. Other receivers would have to sit on the side of our system, but the NR1711 slid right onto the shelf.
Surprisingly, Marantz didnt have to cut any important features to achieve the NR1711s smaller footprint. Its outfitted with five HDMI ports, six sets of RCA ports, three sets of component inputs, a phono preamp, an Ethernet jack, and an antenna port to catch radio waves. We tested multiple inputs during our time with the NR1711, and it never let us down. Audio sounded clear through the HDMI and phono inputs, and 4K video was delivered to our TV without a hitch.
Our only complaint is that youll likely need to jump through menus on your TV and this receiver if you want to play 4K games with HDR (high dynamic range) enabled. In our case, this capability required turning the HDMI ports on our TV to their enhanced mode, and scrolling through the NR1711s barebones-but-usable user interface to make sure 4K/8K video passthrough was enabled. This is annoying, but if you have the correct cables and a little patience, it wont take very long.
We tested the NR1711 by listening to audio in stereo (two speakers), 5.1 surround-sound (six speakers), and Dolby Atmos (eight speakers), and never had any issues. The receiver immediately noticed what audio was being sent from the source, and played it without any futzing around. The AV receivers front display would broadcast what type of audio was playing, so it was easy to see if we were accidentally playing the stereo version of a song that was available in the Dolby Atmos format. In every case, music, movies, and video game soundtracks sounded incredible. This is due, in part, to the Q-Acoustics speakers we were using, but the NR1711 did a lot of the heavy lifting. Again, our only frustration was having to navigate through the settings menu before playing games.
This AV receiver supports both Bluetooth and AirPlay 2, a WiFi media streaming technology that allows you to directly connect Apple products the iPhone, iPad, or Mac to your TV, speaker, or other device. In our experience, both technologies are implemented well here. We had no trouble finding, selecting, and streaming both audio and video to the NR1711 from an iPhone and iPad. Wireless streaming will always be a nice-to-have feature, especially if this AV receiver is located in your living room, where you may want to relax with some music after a long day, or entertain friends. On that note: If you like vinyl, youll be happy to hear the NR1711 has a phono preamp built in, so you can connect your turntable directly with no additional components necessary.
We like that Marantz took the time to design the NR1711 with support for 8K video passthrough and Dolby Atmos, two cutting-edge technologies you can read a little more about later in this guide. Neither of these audio and video standards are mainstream right now, but they will be over time, and its a smart idea to invest in an AV receiver that supports both to avoid the hassle of upgrading.
We couldnt find any significant faults with the NR1711 in the several months weve had to extensively test it, but this level of performance does come at a fairly steep cost. Its price tag is totally justified based on what the NR1711 has to offer this may end up being the only AV receiver you have to buy, frankly but something to keep in mind. If price isnt your top priority run, dont walk, to pick one up.
Why It Made The Cut: The Sony STRDH190 offers more than youd expect from a budget-priced AV receiver, and comes with both speaker cables and banana plugs.
Specs: Type: Stereo Phono Amp: Yes Wireless Connectivity: Yes
Pros: Bluetooth support Built-in phono preamp Comes bundled with accessories
Cons: No HDMI ports No video passthrough
If all you want to do with your AV receiver is listen to music, which was the original idea for this type of device, look no further than the Sony STRDH190. This receiver has a phono input, four sets of RCA inputs, and an antenna port. It cant pass video from your source components to your TV, but thats not what this AV receiver was designed to do.
The STRDH190s inputs are complemented by a phono input, so you can easily use it with a record player, and support for Bluetooth, so you can stream music to it wirelessly from any device. These arent features youll find in many budget-priced AV receivers, so it was nice to see them here. Another nicety is that Sony includes both speaker cable and banana plug (a type of connector that makes it easy to connect speakers to the AV receiver).
This AV receiver can only play music in stereo, which is the dominant way music is mixed, or mono if youre listening to music from the 1960s and 1970s. If you like listening to surround-sound mixes of select albums, youll have to look elsewhere. Yes, the STRDH190 is a little barebones, but we felt it was important to recommend an AV receiver thats budget priced and specifically designed to meet the needs of music lovers. This AV receiver absolutely deserves a place in your living room or music listening room of choice.
Why It Made The Cut: If you want to play the highest-fidelity games in surround sound, the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX105 should be a core component of your setup.
Specs: Type: 5.1 Phono Amp: Yes Wireless Connectivity: Yes
Pros: A wide range of inputs Up to 8K video passthrough Support for Dolby Atmos
Cons: Large size Expense
If not for its big size, Pioneers Elite VSX-LX105 would have been a big contender for our best overall pick in our guide.
Its packed to the gills with inputs: six HDMI ports, four sets of RCA inputs, a phono preamp, one optical audio input, and an Ethernet jack. The HDMI ports can pass through both 4K and 8K inputs, so the latest PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X games should look phenomenal on your TV, with no loss in quality from the system to your set.
The Elite VSX-LX105s video capabilities are complemented by support for every form of surround sound, including Dolby Atmos for the best-possible experience. We like that Pioneer clearly labeled which speaker inputs to use for each speaker (right, left, surround, height, etc.) so you know youll be setting it up properly. If you like wireless audio and video streaming, the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX105 should be the first AV receiver you should consider. It supports Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and has a built-in Chromecast, which allows you to easily stream audio and video directly from an Android device.
This is the only AV receiver were recommending that has support for a smart assistant in this case the Google Assistant built right into the device. This allows you to stream audio and video from any major service totally hands free. You can also use the Google Assistant to change the AV receivers current input, or adjust settings like volume without having to reach for the remote. Little convenience features like this help the Elite VSX-LX105 stand out, and you may find yourself relying on them more often than youd think.
The Elite VSX-LX105 doesnt have any significant downsides, but its fairly large size may be an issue in smaller spaces. Thats understandable, considering how much technology Pioneer fit inside this receiver, but it may cause an issue depending on the size of your media console. This stereo receiver is also fairly expensive, but again, youre getting quite a lot for your money, so its a fair deal.
If you want a smart AV receiver thats built to handle the latest games, Pioneers Elite VSX-LX105 is a rock solid choice.
Why It Made The Cut: Onkyos TX-8270 mix of wired and wireless connectivity options make it a great option for anyone who wants to stream their media and doesnt mind listening in stereo.
Specs: Type: Stereo Phono Amp: Yes Wireless Connectivity: Yes
Pros: Support for every wireless audio streaming technology 4K video passthrough Built-in Chromecast
Cons: Stereo only, which may be bothersome to gamers
Onkyos TX-8270 supports the same set of wireless streaming technologies as our other premium AV receiver recommendations, but at a far lower price.
While were recommending the Onkyo TX-8270 for its wireless streaming abilities, its still got a bunch of physical inputs. This AV receiver has four HDMI inputs, a phone input, three AV inputs, one Ethernet jack and two optical audio inputs. This means you can easily hook up all of your main audio and video components to the Onkyo TX-8270 and likely have one or two left over.
Now its onto the main event: wireless media streaming. The Onkyo TX-8270 supports Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and has a built-in Chromecast. It doesnt matter what device you have, or which streaming service you prefer using, the Onkyo TX-8270 will be able to work with it. Because this AV receiver can pass through audio and video in 4K, you shouldnt lose any quality when streaming media from your devices.
The main difference between the Onkyo TX-8270 and, say, the Marantz NR1711 is that this is a stereo-only AV receiver. If youre short on space, or dont care about surround sound at all, this wont be an issue. If you like to play games, however, you may miss the lack of 5.1 or Dolby Atmos support. You should also consider the fact that the Onkyo TX-8270 doesnt support 8K video passthrough. Again, this limitation doesnt matter right now, but could be an issue down the line. If you dont mind the fact that the Onkyo TX-8270 isnt totally future proof, that shouldnt be an issue.
If youre in the market for a stereo AV receiver thats designed for the wireless world, and compact enough to fit into most media consoles, the Onkyo TX-8270 is an outstanding choice.
Here are the features youll want to weight when making your decision:
8K Video Passthrough: Were just getting to the point where its easy to find true 4K videos on streaming services and discs, but 8K TVs have already started appearing on the market. If you want to live on the bleeding edge, consider getting an AV receiver that can pass through 8K video without any reduction in video quality. This wont be necessary today, but could help extend the life of your AV receiver.
Dolby Atmos: This audio technology can be considered the next generation of surround sound. Instead of mixing audio to come through a specific speaker, engineers can program sound in a 3D space. A Dolby Atmos audio setup requires you to invest in speakers that point upward (or downward if theyre installed in a ceiling), so sound can hit your ears from in front of you, behind you, and above you.
When done well, a Dolby Atmos audio mix can sound far more realistic than a 5.1 audio mix. If this sounds interesting to you, or you plan on building a Dolby Atmos setup speaker by speaker, you need to get an AV receiver that supports this feature.
Yes. You can select whichever speakers you want when deciding how to build your home audio system, and connect them to any AV receiver you get. If you upgrade your receiver, youll be able to keep the speakers, and vice versa.
If youre replacing an old AV receiver, we recommend reading our guide on how to responsibly dispose of e-waste.
Yes. To successfully play 4K video through an AV receiver, youll need to get HDMI 2.1 cables. Frustratingly, these cables are physically identical to the older ones you may currently be using. Weve had luck using these HDMI 2.1 cables during our AV receiver testing, and recommend replacing your old cords to ensure you have the best experience.
AV receivers are an overlooked electronic device to most people, but they fill so many important functions if youre setting up a home theater. The ability to connect all of your source components to a single device, and control your whole setup with one remote, is very gratifying once you take the time to hook everything up. Were also happy to recommend AV receivers because they dont need to be upgraded very often or, frankly, at all for most people which is something of a rarity in the world of electronics.
Well be honest, itll probably take you a full afternoon to fully configure your AV receiver, especially if you just got an entirely new set of speakers, but the extra effort will be totally worthwhile. If youre setting up a home theater, youre probably prepared to spend a pretty penny on a nice TV and great-sounding speakers, but dont skimp on the AV receiver. One weak link in your setup will bring down the quality of the entire entertainment system.

Best Weapons in Cyberpunk 2077 – Media Referee
Posted: at 11:42 am
We have brought you the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons list so that you can decide which one is the best for you and win the fight against strong enemies.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that has lots of actions, and you will find lots of weapons to use against enemies. There are a variety of weapons from long range to short range. In order to defeat enemies and even a few strong bosses in the game, the weapon is the key. Having the best weapon with you can increase the chances of your victory against the enemy. But which are the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons?
To answer this question, we have a list below that will guide you to some of the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons you can use. The list is based on our own preferences, therefore it can be different for you. You could even do well with the weapon at the bottom of our list. As a result, if you believe there is another weapon that would be better for you, you can use it. If youre still confused and want to know which weapon is the greatest, this list will undoubtedly be of assistance.
The Mantis Blades is a melee weapon that gives you power in addition to its speed. With these quick blades, you can slash enemies very easily. Although, the weapon is not recommended for long-range fights. However, if you are in short-range then this weapon will surely help you to get those cool kills. The Mantis Blades also help you to unlock an ability. This ability allows you to leap to your target and deal some serious damage.
Malorian Arm 3516 is the best power pistol you can have in Cyberpunk 2077. You will unlock this weapon during the Chippin In side mission in Act 2. It has a great headshot damage multiplier that can take down enemies very quickly if you have that accuracy. The Malorian Arm 3516 was a custom weapon made for Johnny Silverhand. If you are in the pistol category, then this is one of the best options available for you.
Assault rifles are one of the most well-known weapons in almost any shooting game. These weapons have a number of attachments as well as the ability to customize your gameplay. The assault rifle will be a powerful weapon for you. Assault rifles, on the other hand, are the best alternative if you desire incredible accuracy, little recoil, excellent mobility, and a large range.
Moron Labe is one of Cyberpunk 2077 is a great Assault Rifle under Power categories. As standard, this AR features a clip size of 30 and a damage output of 5.62 damage per second. In addition to that, as a Power weapon, Moron Labe lets its bullets bounce off surfaces, giving it a high chance of hitting multiple enemies at once.
This ARs greatest advantage is that the rate of fire can be greatly increased. You have a greater chance of dismembering enemy targets by doing so, which makes your combat more lethal.
With the 30 rounds magazine clip, Fenrir has the power to deal 6.90 damage per second Fenrirs bullets can also hit multiple enemies and gives you an upper hand in combat. If you shoot at a single enemy with the Fenrir, it will deal thermal damage, and it will later deal burn damage to that opponent.
However, if you want this ability, you will have to sacrifice your recoil. So, if you are the one who can control the recoil easily, then this is one of the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons you can have in your arsenal. If you attach the suitable and some great attachments to this weapon, it can become deadly. If you like to go a bit slow with an SMG and stay in your position for a long time, then Fenrir will do the job for you.
Sniper weapons are extremely strong in any game that involves shooting. You wont have to worry about a lot of things here, like range or ammo. The opponent is defeated for good with just one headshot.
Overwatch is a sniper that comes equipped with a custom scope called the HPO Mk.77 Kanone MAX. The reload speed of this weapon is high, making up for the shorter magazine. Aside from those, it has two slots for attachments, which can be used to install a scope or a mod. This sniper rifle has slots for four Legendary mods if its the Legendary variant.
Cyberpunk 2077 players can acquire Overwatch by completing the Riders of the Storm side quest, which rewards the weapon from Panam Palmer. Its bullets ricochet off surfaces when fired, making it a Power weapon in the game. A target is dealt 0.28 damage per second by Overwatch, and it carries four rounds in its magazine clip. This weapon is one of the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons that you can have. Overwatch is an easy choice for individuals who want to take down their opponents from a distance where they wont be seen.
So these were the best Cyberpunk 2077 weapons, according to us. As we said above that it can be different for you. We have covered almost all weapon types in our list. The list has the best SMG, AR, sniper, melee, and pistol. If you want a quick weapon for close range, then you can go with the Fenrir, Mantis Blades, and Malorian Arm 3516. The Moron Labe and Overwatch will help you with the long-range. Therefore, you can try them without any hesitation. Try out the above weapons and see if they suit your gameplay or not.

CD Projekt Red Announces The Witcher 3’s Next-Gen Update Will Release This Year – Paste Magazine
Posted: at 11:42 am
Just in time for the games seventh anniversary, the developers of The Witcher 3 announced that its long-anticipated next-gen update will release later this year. CD Projekt Red confirmed via Twitter yesterday that the update will be releasing in Q4 2022 for PS5, XBOX Series S/X, and PC. The free update will feature improved performance and graphical quality, as well as additional DLC not included in the original release.
The next-gen update for the seven-year-old game was first announced in 2021, in the immediate aftermath of Cyberpunk 2077s release in late 2020. After several shorter delays that stretched into 2022, the developer announced in mid-April that their in-house team would take the lead on the remaining work for the update, and that it would be delayed past Q2. Yesterdays announcement is the first time the updates release window has been nailed down so concretely, and also the first look into some of its added content.
In addition to beautifying the base game and increasing its performance, the free update will add DLC inspired by Netflixs Witcher series, which is now in its second season. Heavily based on the original books by Andrzej Sapkowski, the show has found critical success both within and outside the series existing community of fans. Not much is known yet about the new DLC, but given the shows wide audience, it seems to be an opportunity for CD Projekt to capitalize on potential new players familiar with the show, as well as offer longtime fans of the game another reason to return.

Tall poppy syndrome and ‘proudly local’: The things Kiwi expats notice about New Zealand that tourists don’t – Stuff
Posted: May 21, 2022 at 7:07 pm
Josh Martin is a London-based Kiwi journalist.
OPINION: Does altitude affect your perspective? It certainly limits my ability to check my privilege.
Spread out on a Virgin Atlantic lie-flat bed, 36,000 feet above the Sierra Nevada, with a glass of Champagne in hand, I had little to toast: Sad, guilty, and gripped by a deep sense of longing mostly for my wayward phone. I had boarded the flight from Auckland, it probably sat lifeless in a Bay of Plenty taxi company lost property box.
Yes, although travellers are supposed to collect souvenirs, I decided to unknowingly gift one scratched Samsung to the city of Tauranga. Enjoy.

READ MORE:* We tried searching for flights using different browsers. Here's what happened * Haere mai with Kiwi kai: The New Zealand cuisine quirks that tourists need to embrace * New Zealand, sometimes you forget how great you really are
Its not about the physical device that you lose when the victim of theft or your own stupidity, but about losing all the processes, contacts and memories it takes care of for you.
For more than two years, this expat had gone without new family photos, weekend-plan WhatsApp chats, Google Maps mispronouncing Mori place names and even the delightfully Kiwi call-waiting music beloved by government departments. I had made up for lost time.
Many photos were taken, many plans were made, many toes tapped along to Dave Dobbyns Loyal (still!) while waiting for a call centre operator.
But as I soared above the cloud, wondering why I didnt make better use of the cloud I realised it was fairly ironic that this lost phone was really just another severed connection to home, and that, after three weeks as a returning expat in New Zealand, there were numerous examples of a disconnect that had nothing to do with a big night out and wandering electronics.
If the Covid pandemic has taught me anything about the New Zealand psyche, its that tall poppy syndrome is alive and well. Heck, theres an entire army of Kiwis with weed-whackers waiting to mow us down just look at the lack of love for Grounded Kiwis.
And even though New Zealand has fallen from the ranks of star pupil in the Covid league table, microaggressions of anti-expat sentiment littered my three weeks at home, many structured around the idea that no matter what your passport says, proper legitimate Kiwis were those who were in the country at the time of the first lockdown and any others who came back since (or couldnt get through the MIQ lottery) were entitled bludgers out to take your home or jobs.
I wondered if the households who felt most strongly on this point were the same who have overseen the seemingly rapid rise in front lawn flag-raisers? Im sure when I departed Aotearoa in 2014 there wasnt this trend of New Zealand flags flying in front of homes across the nation. Theyre everywhere: Is it the only tangible outcome of those two referendums I missed? I wouldnt have thought living in the land of the $1.5m drafty ex-state house was worth celebrating, but again that might show my cultural dissonance.
A more welcome sign of patriotism has taken over our supermarket aisles: everything is proudly local, to be imported is to be frowned upon, which Im sure as a foreign tourist is unnerving to have fewer international brands, but as an expat is refreshing, even novel.
Every trip to Pak'nSave was a tour of the country. Given the number of tourists who drive around New Zealand, I wonder if theyll notice the sheer number of public service campaign ads that permeate radio, TV and newspapers.
Im no down with Big Government campaigner yelling Freeeeedom! but was still baffled by friendly guides telling me how to drive slower, exercise more, stop drinking, start jabbing, stop injuring yourself and please, please line the recycling bin up correctly on the kerb!
Given the glut of public service advertising money being sloshed about, it was a shame to come back to news bulletins filled to the brim with inconsequential infotainment and puff pieces at a time of huge geopolitical drama and domestic challenges.
As a tourist, your news appetite is usually low and these Meanwhile in New Zealand stories are just funny tidbits, but expats are acutely aware of New Zealands perceived isolation at the end of the Earth. We try to swim against it its disheartening that since the Covid pandemic, some pockets of NZ relish that isolationism and that gap looks to have grown into a chasm.
The worst difference is saved for last: The farewell.
While foreign tourists will float out of Auckland International Airport on a high of a once-in-a-lifetime holiday realised, the Kiwi expat chasing money, dreams or love skulks back on to the plane, heavy with emotion, constantly comparing their old life with their new, guilty for not staying longer or not staying behind for good.
Confused, because what was always home feels a little less like home each time.
And sad for the good times with family and friends ahead youll certainly miss out on, and the good times you were there for, but are captured and lonely on a Samsung Galaxy S11 stuck under a taxi drivers seat in the Bay of Plenty.

Obituary – David Ian Pool: The Father of Aotearoa New Zealand Demography – Stuff
Posted: at 7:07 pm
Stephen Barker/Stuff
Ian Pools greatest scholarly contribution was to New Zealand population studies.
David Ian Pool 22 November 1936 - 28 April 2022
The University of Waikato made an inspired choice when it appointed Ian Pool to a chair in sociology in 1978. Strictly, he was not a sociologist. His masters degree had been in geography at the Auckland University College; his 1964 PhD in Demography was at the Australian National University under its Professor of Demography, New Zealander Mick Borrie. (While in Auckland he had worked with Bob Chapman, providing the quantitative input into the project on the evolving political-social structure of New Zealand.)
The decision meant that Waikato University is New Zealands premier academic centre for population studies. The Population Studies Centre which Ian founded evolved into the National Institute of Demographic and Economic Analysis (NIDEA), now called Te Ngira: Institute for Population Research.
Last year the university celebrated its forty years as a centre of demographic teaching and research with Ian rightly at the centre of a conference attended by a galaxy of his students, many of whom are now senior members of the demography profession throughout the world.
After Canberra, Ian went to work in at universities in Ghana, Canada and the United States, and also for a number of international agencies, with whom he continued to work throughout his professional life. He became an expert on population and demography especially in Africa he was fluent in French. In his later years he extended such studies to other developing countries and was an invited lecturer at universities in Asia, Australia, Britain, Europe, Asia and North America.
However, his greatest scholarly contribution was to New Zealand population studies. It began with his doctorate which was the first significant analysis of Mori population changes using contemporary demographic techniques. The thesis was subsequently published, and then revised and updated as Te Iwi Mori: A New Zealand Population Past, Present and Future in 1991. This analysis of the Mori population was extended in Colonisation and Development in New Zealand between 1769 and 1900: the Seeds of Rangiatea.
His research on all aspects of New Zealand population was informed by his overseas experience but was astutely adapted to local circumstances. After all, the population experiences of Mori and non-Mori (in all their diversities) are quite different while sharing universal elements. His work placed New Zealand in a broader international context, for there was always an international dimension in his work. In the mid-1990s, Ian led a team of colleagues and students in New Zealand's first major survey of fertility and reproductive behaviour, which was a part of an international series of surveys in European countries. The result was The New Zealand Family from 1840: A Demographic History, written with his colleague Arunachalam Dharmalingam and with his wife Janet Sceats, also a demographer. They have two children, Felicity and Jonathan, and four mokupana.
Mark Taylor/Stuff
Janet Sceats and Ian Pool in 2008.
Demography is a foundational part of the social sciences interacting with its other disciplines. It is no surprise that Ian did too, notably with the health sector, often in joint work with Janet. There is a lot of sociology in The New Zealand Family from 1840. Population has an important influence on the economy; Ian and his research played a crucial role in this writers economic history, Not in Narrow Seas. His legacy includes a manuscript completed just before his death which tells the story of the peopling and development of Aotearoa New Zealand from 1769 to 2020. It is being prepared for publication by his wife and former colleagues.
Over the years he accumulated numerous awards and accolades, including being elected as a Fellow of the New Zealand Royal Society in 1994, receiving a James Cook Fellowship from the RSNZ in 2004 and its Te Rangi Hiroa medal in 2009. He was made a Life Member of the Population Association of New Zealand in 2007 and a 2011 special issue of the New Zealand Population Review was a festschrift to him. After formally retiring as Professor of Demography in 2009, he was made an Emeritus Professor of the University of Waikato; he continued to work after retirement as long as his health would let him. In 2013 he was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services to demography. Ian participated vigorously in public life, especially on population-related subjects.
Mori, with whom he worked, liken the death of a great person to the falling of a totara. The bush below, which the tree has nurtured, grateful and inspired by the rangatira, is left uncovered. That well summarises the contribution of Ian Pool, the Father of Aotearoa New Zealand Demography.
Dick Bedford, Elizabeth Caffin, Len Cook, Geoff Hayes, Natalie Jackson, Tahu Kukutai and Janet Sceats assisted with the preparation of this obituary.
