Here Are All the Big Developments Coming to the Las Vegas Strip – TheStreet
Posted: March 3, 2022 at 12:07 am
Las Vegas is in the midst of another transition that could change the city's skyline and elevate the international profile of the city.
Whether it's attracting professional sports leagues to the town or attracting world-class entertainers to performance residencies, Las Vegas has been on a roll over the past few years.
With the new and coming attractions on the way, Sin City needs to grow.
Transportation, lodging, and other logistical kinks will have to be worked out before Vegas can reach its full potential and this week the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority put out specifics on where the city is headed.
Las Vegas saw 32.2 million visitors in 2021, a 70% year-over-year increase from 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic was at its height. The city's convention industry didn't have the same type of strong recovery with 2.2 million attendees reported in 2021, a 28% year over year increase.
Here's a look at what is in the future plans for the gambling oasis in the desert.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is projecting the spending of $4.512 billion in 29 new projects that are expected to add 7,602 hotel rooms and 791,000 square feet of convention space in Southern Nevada by the end of 2024.
By the end of 2024, Vegas will have more than 158,000 hotel rooms.
The LVCVA expects the city to add 766 additional rooms this spring with the reopening of the Palms resort and casino under the management of new owners, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
The opening of a Holiday Inn Express will add another 127 rooms.
The biggest project in the pipeline is Fontainebleau Las Vegas on the Strip. The hotel will feature 3,780 hotel rooms and 550,000 square feet of meeting space when it is completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.
This new mega-casino, which sits on the North Strip, would be part of a major effort to revitalize that second of the 4.2 road. It's an important project because it, along with a potential new North Strip Arena along with some other casino projects, could provide a viable alternative to the Caesars Entertainment (CZR) - Get Caesars Entertainment Inc Report and MGM Resorts International (MGM) - Get MGM Resorts International Report casinos which dominate the central and southern Strip.
Caesars also has a massive project planned as it will be revamping its Bally's property and renaming it with its Horseshoe Brand. MGM has big plans as well as it will be taking over the operation of The Cosmpolittan, although the company has not announced any major changes for that property.
The $1.9 billion MSG (MSGE) Sphere at The Venetian is a 17,500-seat entertainment venue that is targeted for completion by the end of 2023.
Meanwhile, six new properties are planned for completion in 2024 with the biggest being the 720-room, nongaming Majestic Las Vegas which is being built for $850 million at the site across the street from the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Also scheduled for completion in 2024 is the $500 million, 527-room Dream Las Vegas.
To help accommodate all of these potential new tourists there are multiple transportation projects in the works including an $8 billion speed rail project and a 29-mile, 51-station Las Vegas Loop underground transit project being built by Elon Musk's The Boring Co.
A big part of Vegas' growth is coming from outside of its traditional gaming industry.
Professional sports is in the midst of a love affair with the city with the recent additions of NFL and NHL franchises.
Major League Baseball has been flirting with the city in an attempt to squeeze a new stadium deal out of the Oakland Athletics. The A's have been in active negotiations with multiple sites on or adjacent to The Las Vegas Strip.
And now there is a report that the NBA could be interested in granting the city an expansion team in the near future. There have also been rumors that Vegas could add a Major League Soccer team, although no concrete plans for that have been made public.
Las Vegas could become an even bigger sports oasis in the middle of the desert to go along with all of the other entertainment the city has to offer.

Where to get the best caviar in Las Vegas – Houston Chronicle
Posted: at 12:07 am
The connoisseur class knows all too well that Las Vegas is a wonderland for anything and everything in the culinary realm. The citys top restaurants offer high-roller dining with gourmet foodie pleasures from around the world and that includes caviar.
The recent opening of the new Caviar Bar at Resorts World ushers in a new level of sturgeon roe indulgence. Heres where to get the best, most luscious presentations of prized pearls in Vegas.
Michelin-starred chef Shaun Hergatt has opened a jewel box restaurant and bar at Resorts World Las Vegas, offering indulgent plates of cured meats, oysters, crudos, cheeses and seafood dishes. But Hergatts selections of Kaluga, Golden Ossetra and Sevruga are the stars, served with traditional accompaniments ($275-$350). The high design in dark, gleaming, caviar colors sends this experience over the top. 3000 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; caviarbarlv.com
One of the citys favorite chefs returns with a sumptuous new restaurant in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The seasonal Mediterranean menu shows English at his most accomplished, including a starter of griddled honey cake topped with olive oil crme frache and Sevruga caviar ($30). 4455 Paradise; virginhotelslv.com
The menu may pay homage to Old World Italian flavors but the experience at this Spiegelworld-produced experience at Cosmopolitan Las Vegas is decidedly new. Expect wall-to-wall eye candy, music and interactive entertainment as you sup on a white clam pie topped with bacon, scallions, lemon and Ossetra caviar ($39). 3708 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; superfrico.com
The vintage supper club inside Wynn Las Vegas aims to take social dining to a new level (although the no photo policy is deliciously anti-social media). The gorgeous interiors provide the perfect frame for the menus Russian Ossetra caviar service ($225), as well as the smoked salmon potato latke dotted with caviar and crme frache ($38). 3131 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; wynnlasvegas.com
The legendary French chefs eponymous restaurant at Caesars Palace just introduced a new dish, Caviar and Langoustine: lobster-like prawn marinated in citrus, lemongrass and kafir leaf served with pickled mango, chutney, caviar and langoustine consomm with miso. Regal dining, for sure. 3570 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; caesars.com
Wolfgang Pucks steakhouse at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas offers caviar lovers two options: Russian Kaluga hybrid ($135) and Israeli Ossetra ($155) presented with traditional accompaniments. Pair the caviar with oysters or seafood tower sea gems and you have a truly high-roller starter. 3355 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; venetianlasvegas.com
Superchef Thomas Keller founded his own caviar company, Regiis Ova, to provide the highest quality, affordable, sustainable farmed caviar. And thats what youll find at his signature restaurant at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas: Ossetra, $110; hybrid, $95; Supreme, $78 (per ounce). 3355 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; venetianlasvegas.com
This see-and-be-seen lair off the lobby of Bellagio Resort & Casino serves bubbles and caviar nibbles from what many consider to be the finest purveyor of sturgeon roe. In addition to many straight caviar choices, the menu also includes caviar tacos, caviar pie and an Ossetra caviar cigar served with the Bellagio Martini. 3600 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; petrossian.com

Bill Simmons thinks NBA will expand to Las Vegas and Seattle – New York Post
Posted: at 12:07 am
Bill Simmons believes we could see the NBA expand to 32 teams, with new franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle, in the near future.
Speaking on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons said he thinks Fenway Sports Group and LeBron James will be involved in eventual expansion ventures.
Theyve been circling different NBA teams for a while, Simmons said of FSG, which owns the Red Sox, Liverpool FC and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Both Vegas and Seattle would be logical places to expand, with both cities already having arenas and fan bases that would be ready to go. T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has hosted the NBA All-Star Game, Pac-12 Tournament and a plethora of other college basketball games. The success of the Raiders and Golden Knights in the city is also promising.
Seattle has long been thought of as a destination for NBA expansion, since the Supersonics were upended in 2008. The NHLs Kraken just became the citys newest team, and their Climate Pledge Arena hosted an Alabama-Gonzaga basketball game earlier this season.
I dont know what the possibilities would be, but I think Seattle and Vegas are going to have teams, Simmons said. Thats happening.
James, whose net worth is reportedly close to $1 billion, would be a logical choice to be involved in an ownership group. Simmons specifically linked him to a potential team in Vegas.
I think its officially real LeBron is definitely going to be involved in that, Simmons said.
Exactly when such expansion would occur is unclear, but as Simmons pointed out, the expansion fees would help make up for revenue losses the league has suffered due to COVID-19.
In a December 2020 press conference, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said expansion is sort of the manifest destiny of the league but that it wasnt on the front burner.

MISC: NOSFERATUF.W. Murnaus German Expressionist horror film Nosferatu debuted in March 1922. It was an unauthorized, freewheeling adaptation of Bram Stokers novel Dracula, which at the time was only 25 years old. (Putting that into perspective: The first Harry Potter novel turns 25 this year.) Murnau took a few liberties with the source material to disguise its origins, among them changing the name of the title character to Orlok, jettisoning most of its characters and changing the ending. Stokers widow sued to prevent the release of Nosferatu, won the rights to the film and tried to destroy all prints of itan effort that, thankfully, failed.
The Sci Fi Center has screened Nosferatu several times before now, but this is a special occasion: the classic silent films 100th birthday, a proper milestone even for an immortal. Pianist Andrew Tyler will provide live accompaniment to Max Schrecks terrifying performance as the first vampire ever to appear in film. All ages are welcome, though with his razor-sharp teeth and nails, Count Orlok might be a bit much for young children. He might be a little much for some adults, too, but thats the fun of it. 8 p.m., $10, thescificenter.com. Geoff Carter

Like the great Carl Sagan before him, Tyson has a gift for expressing complex scientific ideas in simple, relatable terms without sounding like hes dumbing things down. (He also has a talent for putting our brief lives in perspective; if youre feeling indestructible, ask him about the inevitable heat death of the universe, and stand well back.) Tyson strives to get his audiences to respect the tenacity of scientists on the frontier who are daily steeped in ignorance, and over the course of 150 minutes at Reynolds Hall, he should be able to convince you to meet those scientists at least halfway. 7:30 p.m., $39-$125. thesmithcenter.com. Las Vegas pediatrician warns parents of expanded baby formula recall – KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas
Posted: at 12:07 am
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) Abbott Nutrition has expanded its baby formula recall after reports of another infant's death.
The Food and Drug Administration announced in an update on Monday that the recall had been expanded to include one lot of Similac PM 60/40.
On Feb. 17, Abbott initially recalled certain Alimentum, Similac, and EleCare baby formulas made at its Sturgis, Michigan, facility.
Health officials announced the new update after another infant tested positive for Cronobacter sakazakii died.
The FDA said their investigation includes four reports of Cronobacter sakazakii infections in infants (three from FDA complaints and one from a CDC case finding) and one complaint of a Salmonella Newport infection in an infant.
Las Vegas valley pediatrician Dr. Atousa Ghaneian with Healthy Kids Care says shes had to clear her own shelves of the formula.
She says symptoms to look out for include poor feeding, irritability, temperature changes, vomiting, rashes, blood in stool or urine and lethargy.
If your child is experiencing any of those symptoms, Dr. Ghaneian suggests first calling your pediatrician.
If the infant is having some irritability, some rash, have the pediatrician see them that day and examine them. If the baby is very irritable, has consistence of vomiting or rash, a very high fever, they cant get in touch with their pediatrician or sometimes its in the middle of the night or after hours, I would suggest taking them to the emergency room to get fully evaluated, Dr. Ghaneian added.
If you need to clear your shelves, Dr. Ghaneian says you can find similar formulas through other brands that wont upset your babys stomach.
For example, if youre using Similac for spit-up, Enfamil A.R. is a formula thats similar in product and price.
The impacted batches have lot numbers that start with a 22 through 37. If youre not sure whether the formula you have is on the recall list, you can head to SimilacRecall.com to check.

Southwest Airlines Has Great News for Caesars, MGM, and the Las Vegas Strip – TheStreet
Posted: at 12:07 am
In a normal year, the Consumer Electronics Show pushes Las Vegas to capacity. Nearly 200,000 people attend the convention, filling hotels not just on the Las Vegas Strip but pretty much any property in the city.
This year, while CES had an in-person show, many major exhibitors pulled out at the last minute due to a surge in Covid cases. CES happened, but it drew around 15% to 20% of its normal crowd.
Instead of driving prices to rarely seen levels at Strip casinos owned by Caesars Entertainment (CZR) - Get Caesars Entertainment Inc Report and MGM Resorts International (MGM) - Get MGM Resorts International Report, rooms sat empty and casinos were barely populated.
It was a stark reminder that while Las Vegas had reopened for business, business travelers -- an incredibly important group of customers for the casino industry -- had not yet fully come back.
The same script from CES repeated at two other traditionally huge Las Vegas conventions: the auto-related Specialty Equipment Market Association show and World of Concrete. Those shows happened with an in-person component, but attendance was weak and normal had most certainly not returned.
Now, Nevada has lifted its indoor mask mandate and there are signs of life, according to an executive from Southwest (LUV) - Get Southwest Airlines Co. Report Airlines, the biggest airline at Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Las Vegas saw 3.1 million people fly into Reid in January. That's more than double 2020's January passenger count, but not even three-quarters of the 4.2 million in January 2020, essentially the month before the pandemic began.
Dave Harvey, vice president of Southwest Airs business-travel unit, told the Review-Journal that Las Vegas stands well-positioned to make a strong recovery.
Even though business has been really depressed over the past two years, Vegas has actually punched above its weight because even though it hasnt been the large 100,000-person meetings, there have still been a lot of midsize gatherings, Harvey told the Review-Journal's Mike Akers. Those have helped prop Vegas up better than a lot of other markets.
Harvey sees a number of signs that Las Vegas can expect a relatively quick comeback. He noted that shows running safely and the omicron surge fading set the table for a strong second half of 2022 and a full comeback in 2023.
With the latest surge in late December, early January a lot of the January business came off the books and February definitely softened, Harvey said.
But basically in March and on, all of those events and meetings held on. And the ones that pulled back in January and February are saying they cant wait until January and February of 23, so theyre all working to reschedule in any open window in the spring. The spring is going to be very robust."
Caesars and MGM have used the pandemic slowdown to make some big moves to their Las Vegas Strip portfolios. MGM, for example, has sold the operations at the Mirage to Hard Rock International while acquiring the Cosmpolitan.
"With over $500 million of capital invested to upgrade the property since 2014, the Cosmopolitan offers an incredible opportunity to expand our customer base and will provide greater depth of choices for our guests in Las Vegas," MGM Resorts Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Halkyard said in September.
"We believe that we can leverage MGM Resorts' expertise, operating platform and other highly achievable synergies to continue providing best-in-class service while driving growth for the property."
Caesars has not been quiet either. The company has completed major renovations on the entryway to its iconic Caesars Place casino, and it plans to transform its Bally's hotel/casino into its Horseshoe brand.
"At Horseshoe, it's all about the gambler. Since 1951 Horseshoe Casinos have been home to the best odds, highest limits, and biggest jackpots. So, it's fitting that we bring Horseshoe back to Las Vegas, and right on the Las Vegas Strip," Jason Gregorec, general manager of the property, said in a news release.
"Holding to the Horseshoe tradition of providing impeccable service, our guests will see the property transform over time, ensuring we aren't disrupting the excitement while we make the transition."
Bally's/the new Horsehoe sits essentially dead-center on the Las Vegas Strip.

Irritant & Allergic Contact Dermatitis: Symptoms …
Posted: at 12:04 am
OverviewWhat is contact dermatitis?
Dermatitis is the medical term for skin inflammation (irritation). Contact dermatitis is an allergic or irritant reaction that causes a painful or itchy skin rash. As the name suggests, you get contact dermatitis from coming into contact with an allergen (like poison ivy) or an irritant (like a chemical).
The condition is common. We are surrounded by irritants and potential allergens. You might experience contact dermatitis more often if you have sensitive skin or other chronic skin problems like atopic dermatitis.
Irritant reactions can occur after a single exposure or after repeated exposures over time, whereas it takes multiple exposures to the same chemical to develop an allergy. People who work in certain professions have a higher risk of developing contact dermatitis. You might repeatedly encounter irritating chemicals or allergens in these professions:
The two main types of contact dermatitis are:
Allergic contact dermatitis: Your body has an allergic reaction to a substance (allergen) that it doesnt like. Common allergens include jewelry metals (like nickel), cosmetic products, fragrances and preservatives. It can take several days after exposure for an itchy, red rash to develop.
Irritant contact dermatitis: This painful rash tends to come on quickly in response to an irritating substance. Common irritants include detergents, soap, cleaners and acid.
Every time your skin comes into contact with an allergen that it doesnt like, your bodys immune system responds. White blood cells are recruited into the skin, releasing chemical mediators of inflammation. This response causes the itchy rash. The rash may appear minutes, hours or several days after exposure.
Poison ivy is a top cause of allergic contact dermatitis. Other causes include:
Irritant contact dermatitis occurs more often than allergic contact dermatitis. You develop a rash when a chemical substance irritates the skins outer layers. The rash is more painful than itchy.
Common causes of irritant contact dermatitis include:
Signs of contact dermatitis include a skin rash that is:
If youre regularly exposed to irritating chemicals or allergens at work and develop contact dermatitis, ask your employer for a chemical Safety Data Sheet. You can take this information to your healthcare provider to help determine whats causing the rash.
Clinical examination can reveal clues to the underlying diagnosis of irritant or allergic contact dermatitis. A careful history can uncover clues as to the offending agent.
With either type of contact dermatitis, you can avoid the substance for a while to see if the rash goes away. If avoidance is not possible or not sustainable, further diagnostic testing may be indicated.
For suspected cases of allergic contact dermatitis, a series of tests called patch testing can identify the underlying cause of allergic contact dermatitis.
With a patch test, you wear adhesive patches on your skin. The patches contain chemicals known to commonly trigger allergic reactions. After 48 hours, your healthcare provider checks your skin for reactions. Youll see your provider again in another 48-96 hours for one last skin check.
There isnt a test for irritant contact dermatitis. Your healthcare provider may be able to determine whats causing the rash based on the types of irritants or chemicals youre exposed to regularly.
Treatment for both types of contact dermatitis is the same. Even with treatment, it can take several weeks for the rash to go away. Treatments include:
Allergic contact dermatitis is a Type IV hypersensitivity reaction, caused by a different immunologic mechanism than hives, angioedema, or anaphylaxis. However, very rarely, patients may have immunologic dysfunction which results in multiple types of concurrent hypersensitivity reactions. Thus, it is possible that people with contact dermatitis can develop hives (urticaria) and swelling (angioedema) after coming into contact with an allergen. Hives are red, raised, itchy skin welts. Angioedema is swelling deep under the skin.
Extremely rare, allergic contact dermatitis can overlap with a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction called anaphylaxis that can swell airways and close them. If you think you are experiencing anaphylaxis, call 911. Youll need an immediate epinephrine injection to counteract this allergic response. People with known allergies can carry an EpiPen, a brand of injectable epinephrine.
Avoiding known allergens and irritants is the best way to prevent contact dermatitis. But you cant always stay away from every possible irritant. These steps can help:
If youve reacted to an allergen or irritant, you will continue to do so every time youre exposed to it again. You can prevent flare-ups by avoiding that substance.
Most people who have occupational contact dermatitis can find ways to reduce exposure so they can continue their work without breaking out in a rash.
You should call your healthcare provider if the skin rash:
If youre experiencing signs of contact dermatitis, talk to your healthcare provider. You may want to ask:
Contact dermatitis is uncomfortable and can be painful or itchy. Talk to your healthcare provider about how you can find out whats causing it, reduce your exposure and prevent reactions. You might develop contact dermatitis from working with irritants or chemicals. Ask your employer about how you can minimize rashes while remaining on the job.

Eczema and Mental Health in Children – Healthline
Posted: at 12:04 am
Around 1 in 10 children live with eczema, a condition that causes dry, itchy skin. But the condition doesnt only affect the skin it can also have an impact on a childs mental health.
According to the National Eczema Association, children and adolescents with eczema face a higher risk of:
Plus, constantly itchy skin can be stressful and distracting at school. Some children with eczema may sometimes be bullied by their classmates, which could lead to mental health problems.
If you take care of kids with eczema, read on to learn more about the ways in which the condition can affect their emotional well-being, along with tips on how you can support their mental health.
There are strong links between eczema and mental health challenges in children of all ages. According to a systematic review and meta-analysis from 2019, children and adolescents with eczema faced a significantly higher likelihood of experiencing any mental health condition compared with their peers without the condition.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says that eczema can often affect the moods of babies and young children. They may be:
Some kids with eczema may also associate scratching with getting attention from a parent or caregiver, per the AAD. That, in turn, can make scratching a habit and lead to a cycle that continues to impact both their emotional well-being and their skin.
Older kids with eczema, including adolescents and teens, also have a higher risk of mental health conditions. A 2021 study, which analyzed survey data from a nationally representative sample of U.S. children up to age 17, found that twice as many kids with eczema had a mental health disorder that impacted their lives, compared to those without the condition.
Compared with other kids, the participants with eczema were also more likely to express that they:
There isnt a simple explanation for the link between eczema and mental health. Instead, it may be the result of a variety of factors, each of which can impact children in different ways.
Some kids may feel frustrated from dealing with perpetually itchy skin and missing out on other activities while at doctors appointments or treating flares.
The physical appearance of eczema patches may also make them feel like they dont fit in with other kids. They may deal with low self-confidence and isolation. Some kids with eczema may also be bullied, which could contribute to mental health problems.
In some cases, medication may impact kids mental health as well. For example, if your child is taking montelukast (Singulair) for asthma (which is more common in people with eczema), they may experience mental health side effects, like anxiety and depression.
Anxiety, along with stress, can trigger eczema flares. They put the body into fight-or-flight mode, leading to a surge of cortisol (a stress response hormone). That, in turn, can cause an inflammatory response in the skin, according to the National Eczema Association.
While theres a link between anxiety and skin flares, its unclear whether anxiety can be a root cause of eczema. Researchers think that eczema may be caused by a combination of genetics and environmental triggers, but more studies are needed.
Children with eczema may potentially face a greater risk of depression than those without the condition, but research is ongoing. This is more likely to be true among those with severe eczema.
A 2021 study on more than 11,000 children in the U.K. found that those with severe eczema had twice the likelihood of experiencing symptoms of depression. However, it did not find the risk of depression to be higher among those with moderate or mild eczema.
That research built upon a 2017 study from Korea, which included data on more than 72,000 middle and high school students. It found that students with eczema were significantly more likely to report feelings of depression, as well as suicidal ideation, planning, and attempts.
Theres no single reason why a child with eczema may be more likely to experience depression. It may have to do with the way the body communicates with the brain during an inflammatory response, according to the National Eczema Association. There is still much to learn about the connection between eczema and mental health.
Eczema symptoms can impact your childs behavior and performance at school in a variety of ways.
A 2021 study on more than 2,700 people found that children ages 3 to 10 who had eczema were more likely to have conduct problems, inattention or hyperactivity, and emotional challenges.
Sleeping issues from eczema may contribute to behavioral problems, as well. Around 30 percent of children with eczema have sleep disruptions 5 or more nights each week, per the National Eczema Association. That can lead to irritability, daytime drowsiness, and trouble paying attention.
Research from 2016, which evaluated survey data from more than 354,000 U.S. children, found that those with eczema were more likely to have attention deficit disorder (ADD) or ADHD. Kids with severe eczema also faced much higher odds of ADD and ADHD when they didnt get adequate sleep at least 4 nights a week.
Those conditions, as well as coping with red and itchy skin, can affect how well a child can regulate their emotions and behavior.
Eczema can have an emotional impact on children. In a 2020 study, researchers analyzed interview transcripts from 28 adolescents and young adults. They found that participants:
While the size of that study was too small to generalize the results to a larger population, the emotional response to eczema or any other chronic disease is unique to each individual. Eczema may have a much bigger effect on some childrens emotions than others.
With the right support, children with eczema can learn to manage the disease, as well as its impact on their emotional and mental health.
Keeping up with eczema treatments, such as medications, topical treatments, and moisturizing, can help reduce symptoms that might otherwise affect a childs behavior and feelings. Younger children may need a parent or caretaker to directly manage their treatment. As kids get older, regular reminders might be enough to keep them on track.
Parents and caregivers can also step up in a few other ways, including:
Eczema is sometimes dismissed as a disease thats easy to manage and doesnt have a huge impact on a persons life.
However, for people with the condition, it can feel like the opposite. Asking your child about their well-being and acknowledging that managing eczema can be challenging and frustrating may help them feel like someone else gets what theyre going through.
Focus on normalizing but not pointing out or avoiding conversations about flares when your child is dealing with them. Make sure they know that it isnt something to be ashamed of and talk with them about being open with their friends about their condition.
At the beginning of the school year, talk with your childs teacher about their eczema. That way, they can provide additional support in the classroom.
You may want to ask the teacher to avoid telling children with eczema not to scratch. Instead, they can encourage students to find other ways to relieve the itching, including:
You and your childs teacher should also look for signs of bullying related to the condition. Putting a stop to early teasing and bullying before it turns into a larger problem can help prevent serious mental health issues later on.
Stress whether from eczema or any other source can never be permanently prevented, but it can be managed. Teach children coping strategies for stress, such as:
If your child is showing signs of depression, anxiety, or another mental health condition, connect them with professional support. Pediatric psychologists and therapists are trained to identify mental health disorders in children and help them develop personalized tools for managing symptoms.
In some cases, medication may also be used to treat certain mental health disorders in kids.
Eczema can take a toll on children and adolescents emotionally and socially. Research shows that children with eczema may be at a higher risk of depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. Some kids may also be bullied for their condition, leading to social withdrawal and self-esteem issues.
If you take care of a child with eczema, ask them about what theyre going through and avoid minimizing their experience. Its important that kids feel understood by those around them.
You may also need to help your child develop stress management techniques. That might mean meditating, breathing exercises, playing outside, or something else entirely. Try a few different strategies to see which works best for your child.
Finally, keep an eye out for signs of mental health conditions in your child. You may need to connect them with a mental health professional for additional support.
Remember: Eczema might only look like a skin condition, but it can have a big impact on a childs emotional well-being. Try to find strategies to address all the ways in which eczema can affect their lives.
