Egypt calls on Sudanese parties to form transitional government – Macau Business
Posted: January 9, 2022 at 4:06 pm
Egypts Foreign Ministry on Saturday called on all Sudanese parties to work on choosing a consensus new transitional prime minister and forming a new government as soon as possible.
Egypt closely follows the recent developments in Sudan and boosts the United Nations moves for achieving stability in the country via activating a dialogue among all sides, the ministry said in a statement.
Only the dialogue will settle the ongoing crisis and prevent chaos, it added, stressing Egypts readiness to support new transitional Sudanese government by all means.
Security and stability of Sudan is an indispensable part of Egypts security and stability, said the statement.
Earlier, the UN said it would hold talks in Sudan, aimed at salvaging a democratic transition. Volker Perthes, the UN envoy for Sudan, said the UN-facilitated political process would seek a sustainable path forward towards democracy and peace in the country.

Debunking Myths and Misconceptions of the Psychedelics Industry – Rolling Stone
Posted: at 4:05 pm
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers.
As another psychedelic renaissance begins to take flight, it seems that myths and misconceptions rise to meet it. As a molecular pharmacologist studying cannabinoids and psychedelics with training in psilocybin-assisted therapy, I believe its vital to dispel these misconceptions.
Whether you are a consumer, an investor or simply interested in navigating the chaos that surrounds this burgeoning industry, below are a few mind munchies (aka food for thought) intended to provide some accessible guidance and insight.
This is not a ploy this is an avenue to ask for permission to do research, cultivate or produce. Anyone could, in theory, conduct an investigation on psychedelics. They can create a company, apply for a research license and generate data. Basic research underpins these endeavors. Much of the medicinal chemistry and basic research is outsourced to international contract research organizations. There is a recent push for investing in research for the development of intellectual property.
The main focus on naturally occurring psychedelics has been on a few dozen species identified in North and South America. For example, the Western world knows of roughly 100 species of psychedelic mushrooms. Is this a bias from our bioprospecting or a true distribution of psychedelic plants and animals?
I hesitate to mention the vast collection of psychedelic flora and fauna that grow and live around us, which could encourage their overuse by humans. Any advancement or discovery in this realm should be done responsibly to mitigate the risks to these species. Modern history has focused on a small population of natural producers of psychedelics when in reality this is a vast area with opportunities.
The Rolling Stone Culture Council is an invitation-only community for Influencers, Innovators and Creatives. Do I qualify?
Before you start a psychedelic venture or adventure, keep in mind that there are many psychedelic gimmicks that have long preceded the current shroom boom. As Alan Watts is purported to have said, Anybody who tells you that he has some way of leading you to spiritual enlightenment is like somebody who picks your pocket and sells you your own watch.
The emergence of e-psychonauts and online purveyors of entheogenic products has created controversies and misconceptions. When it comes to marketing and online drug sales, fact can be difficult to separate from fiction.
One fascinating example is the Sonoran Desert toad, which is often discussed as an ancient psychedelic. While toads have been revered by ancient cultures, this particular backstory of toad licking was conjured up by purveyors of 5-MEO-DMT. Because of this misinformation, the Sonoran Desert toad has become an unregulated commodity whose populations have been threatened, if not endangered. These toads could be licked out of existence. Their venom-derived medicine is brutally extracted while the toads environment is also being destroyed by illicit market influences. Conservationists have pleaded with the public regarding the threats to this species.
The future and evolution of psychedelic creatures on the Earth are very uncertain and precarious. Will we allow this amphibian to continue to evolve as a living psychedelic organism? Or will the lineage of psychedelic toads end with our generation?
Another myth being commercialized is that psychedelic drugs will make you a peaceful, righteous human. The notion that the worlds problems would be solved if more people took entheogens is a hallucination in and of itself. However, there are countless examples of psychedelics that prove time and again that psychedelics, in and of themselves, are not used to facilitate peace with some experts calling the trend a false promise.
For instance, researchers believe Vikings could have used psychedelics for unearthly abilities before going to war. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson credited toad venom, or DMT, for inspiring a return to fighting at the age of 54. Scientific literature is filled with examples of hallucinogenic experiences that are not innately peaceful. In my research experience, when a psychedelic therapy session confronts trauma or ego death, it isnt always a tranquil experience. There are also oppressive, racist groups that seem to be linked to overuse of psychedelics.
The use of these substances does not suddenly turn people into peaceniks. Taking psychedelics will not inherently make someone better at things they do not already know how to do well. Mostly, they will just get better at taking psychedelics. Practice is the path to mastery.
We live in an exhilarating time for psychedelics. Society has begun searching for drugs that act outside the common psychedelic serotonin receptors, the targets of LSD and mushrooms. Almost anyone can join the search, provided we are careful about navigating the gap between speculation and science. In short, theres a lot of promise, so lets avoid the traps and do things responsibly.

The Best Winter Skin Care Tips – Health Essentials from Cleveland Clinic
Posted: at 4:03 pm
When the seasons change, you switch up many things swapping cooler summer clothes for a warmer winter wardrobe, for example, or lighter dinner fare for heartier soups and stews. Unfortunately, winter also often brings about changes to your skin. Dry skin is extremely common when the weather turns colder.
Cleveland Clinic is a non-profit academic medical center. Advertising on our site helps support our mission. We do not endorse non-Cleveland Clinic products or services.Policy
Our skin traps humidity or moisture thanks to natural oils, which act as a barrier of protection and hydration. In general, dry skin is caused by a weakened skin barrier, says dermatologistAlejandra Estemalik, MD. Thereason your skin not performing as well as it should be is because theres a decrease in these natural oils, due to overwashing or using products that dry out your skin.
Dry skin symptoms can include itching, flakiness and redness, although in more severe cases, your skin can also become cracked or bleed. Thankfully, Dr. Estemalik has some tips so you dont have to spend the entire winter feeling miserable and uncomfortable in your skin.
Call it a perfect storm of environmental conditions. Not only is outside humidity lower, but cold temperatures also mean youre spending more time inside, which isnt always ideal for your skin. In winter, environmental humidity is low, says Dr. Estemalik. But were also exposed to forced air or heat, which is also going to decrease humidity indoors and cause dry skin.
Due to the natural ebb and flow of the seasons, youre also exposed to less sunlight in the winter. Besides being a good source of vitamin D, sunlight is also a natural anti-inflammatory, which can help certain health conditions.
In the summer, when youre in the pool, youre exposed to chlorine and sunscreen, which are skin irritants, says Dr. Estemalik. But youre also in the sun. In people with eczema who getflare-ups in the winter, we have them do light treatment or phototherapy because it can make their skin less itchy.
In addition to seasonal changes, genetics can factor into whether someone has dry skin. Some people have drier skin because they dont produce enough of a protein called filaggrin, which plays a role in forming and hydrating your skin barrier.
Caring for dry skin in the winter involves a combination of habit changes, product swaps and reading ingredient labels carefully.
A long, hot shower feels great when its chilly outside but, unfortunately, its not great if you have dry skin. Its cold, so everybody feels like taking a hot shower is a good remedy, says Dr. Estemalik. But overwashing will dry your skin. The heat in the water dries the oils out of your skin. However, the hot water itself will also dry your skin. The warmer water you use, the drier your skins going to be.
Dr. Estemalik recommends limiting showers to between 5 and 10 minutes, and showering every other day if youre not getting sweaty exercising. If you work out three times a week, you dont need to shower every day.
When you moisturize your skin is also key. After a shower, pat your skin dry with a towel and then immediately apply moisturizer. The function of most moisturizers is to trap moisture in your skin, says Dr. Estemalik. When you apply moisturizer on skin thats really, really dry, its not going to be that helpful because theres no moisture to trap. Applying moisturizers on damp skin is much more beneficial, especially if your skin is dry to start with.
When thinking about what products to buy, Dr. Estemalik has a good rule of thumb: The better they smell, the more irritating they are for your skin. I like to call those micro-irritations. We accumulate micro-irritations that eventually will cause your skin to be dry, itchy and cracked. Fragrance-free moisturizers, such as the old medicine cabinet standby Vaseline, are great options.
Keeping laundry day fragrance-free is also important. Detergent has fragrance, and on top of that, we use dryer sheets, says Dr. Estemalik. They make your clothes feel really clean, but theyre another irritant that comes in contact with you 24/7. Even when youre not wearing your daily clothes, youre wearing pajamas. So this is something that youre experiencing all day long.
Not all moisturizers are created equally or from the same ingredients. Lotions are much more popular because theyre easier to apply, but that doesnt necessarily mean that thats the best type of agent to moisturize your skin, says Dr. Estemalik. Lotions have a lot of alcohol and fragrance in them, both of which are irritants to the skin. But dermatologists favor creams over lotion.
For example, when looking for a cream, read the ingredient label and pick products that contain hyaluronic acid and ceramide both moisture-friendly ingredients rather than botanicals like lavender tea tree oil or coconut oil.
Some other skincare products you might use on a daily basis can also have skin-irritating ingredients. Acne medications can contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, while anti-aging products often contain alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic acid or retinol.
Using these products less frequently is one solution. Anti-aging products may work out well in the summer but the ingredients in them that help promote quick skin cell turnover may be too drying in the winter, says Dr. Estemalik. When it comes to the winter and those anti-aging products, decrease your use to three or four times a week instead of every day. The same holds true for acne medication, she adds.
Soap is known for drying out the oils in your skin. Overexfoliating can also be damaging. Especially on the face, many people will see flakiness and dryness and think, Oh, I need to exfoliate, says Dr. Estemalik. But exfoliating is super potent. It strips moisture or oils out of your skin, and will even make your skin even itchier and drier. Exfoliate once or twice a week max, she recommends.
Its very common to get dry skin on your hands. Especially in the times of COVID-19, were using lots of alcohol-containing sanitizer, she says. Thats a drying and irritating agent. You dont need to stop sanitizing just moisturize as much as you can with something that has dimethicone, a silicone-based product thats great for skin dryness.
Wear gloves when you go outdoors in the winter, as well as when youre doing something where your hands get wet, such as doing dishes or washing your car. Coming in contact with chemical greases and other harsher micro-irritants will dry out your hands, too.
Using a humidifier in the room where you sleep can help reduce the effects of spending lots of time in dry and low-humidity environments. Dr. Estemalik recommends setting the machine to between 30% and 50% humidity.
Sometimes. For example, adults over the age of 40 naturally have drier skin and should be applying moisturizer regularly. Just like your hairs not the same, your skins not the same after that age, says Dr. Estemalik. As we get older, our skin naturally produces less oil.
Seasonal shifts that dont necessarily have to do with the weather can also affect certain conditions. Dr. Estemalik says holiday stress and consuming caffeine can make rosacea worse. The anti-inflammatory condition psoriasis is also affected by a lack of sunlight. Plus, eczema can flare up and worsen in the summer because your skin is more irritated by sweat or because you swim a lot, she adds.
However, dry skin can also be a sign of a completely unrelated health condition, such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, kidney failure or a nutrition deficiency. The key to figuring out whats going on is to watch out for certain symptoms.
Look out for intense itching, says Dr. Estemalik. If your skin is getting darker in the areas where youre scratching, and if there are areas that persistently rough, flaky and red, you should visit a doctor.
Inflamed skin that starts crusting over is another red flag, as this could mean a bacterial infection. We see bacterial and viral infections in people that have eczema, says Dr. Estemalik. If your skin is red, inflamed and scaly, and on top of that you see crusting, especially if its yellow crusting, its time to go the doctor. If youre experiencing intense itching, and your skin is bleeding, its time to go to the doctor.
Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream might help in some instances. However, when in doubt, seeing a doctor is the best option. After all, there are situations when a medicated cream or lotion is the best option. I see a lot of people that think, Oh, I have eczema, and Im going to moisturize more and more, says Dr. Estemalik. Theres times when moisturizer is just not enough, and you need something medicated. You need help.

This Is What Your Skin Texture Is Saying About Your Overall Health, According To Derms – SheFinds
Posted: at 4:03 pm
While much of your skin texture and type is determined by genetics, there are some cases in which the exterior of your complexion is dictated by certain health conditions taking place inside of your body. If youve lived with dry sky most of your life and are suddenly experiencing an oilier base than usual, it may be worth looking into your overall health and taking your changing skin texture as an indication that something deeper may be going on. We checked in with board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Joshua Zeichner for a clear outline of what changing skin texture may be saying about your health status, and what you can do moving forward.

If youre experiencing excessively oily skin or an abnormal number of breakouts, Zeichner notes that this may be due to an imbalance of androgen hormones. Hormones like testosterone and its more active form DHT simulate oil glands to go into overdrive, causing excessively oily skin and acne breakouts, he explains. Women with high hormone levels often suffer from irregular periods and hair growth in areas that men typically develop it. Should you experience any significant changes in the oiliness of your skin, it may be worth checking in with a primary care doctor to make sure your hormones are healthy and in check.
Shutterstock
On the other hand, if youre now experiencing unnaturally dry skin and flaky patches, while it may be due to the colder weather, it could also be related to changes in your internal health as well. Extremely dry skin may be the result of hypothyroidism or dietary deficiencies, warns Zeichner. Thyroid hormone helps our body regulate daily functioning and has an impact on the skin. We know that no thyroid hormone levels are associated with thinning hair and dry skin. However, another possible cause of increasingly dry skin is menopause, so taking age as a factor of your skin texture is also important before assuming your thyroid is out of whack.
Shutterstock
Particularly sensitive skin may be just that, or an indication of an underlying potential for allergy, explains Zeichner. People with asthma, seasonal allergies, and eczema often are more at risk for developing skin allergies than other people. These allergies commonly develop after coming in contact with ingredients like fragrances or preservatives, he adds. Having or developing more sensitive skin over time is not the most concerning skincare issue at the end of the day, but staying aware of the ingredients youre using on your complexion is helpful for ensuring no further reactions develop in the future. As a general rule, eliminating fragrance from your skincare products will likely make the most significant difference in clearing up your appearance.

Reported rates of food and drink allergies rise amidst the pandemic – The Drinks Business
Posted: at 4:03 pm
A rise in self-reported rates of food and drink allergies and intolerances has occurred during the pandemic, according to a new report.
On the strength of increasing numbers and consumer awareness, the allergy friendly food and beverage market is expected to grow through 2026, stated findings from Packaging Facts latest Allergy Friendly Foods: Market Trends and Opportunities report.
According to survey data, 14% of adult respondents report having a food allergy, while 23% report being intolerant of or sensitive to certain foods, revealing that a large minority of consumers avoid certain food and drink ingredients at least some of the time.
Allergy-friendly products are the most important to consumers with diagnosed food allergies that cause allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis, tingling or itching in the mouth, hives, itching, eczema, or swelling, cited the report.
Additionally, it observed how some people may think they have a food allergy or intolerance while not actually having these conditions. Some consumers also avoid certain allergens such as gluten, milk, or soy because they do not like these ingredients, think these ingredients are unhealthy, or simply have a negative perception of the ingredients. As such, the allergy-friendly food market appeals to a much broader audience than the name implies.
Opportunities for the food and drink sector can be seen with allergy-friendly products going the extra mile to emphasise when items are free from certain allergen ingredients and may have a third-party certification (such as certified gluten-free).
Products that are free from the big 8 major allergens (i.e., eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soybeans, tree nuts, and wheat/gluten) are, according to the report, important to those with food allergies, as well as products that lack other common food allergens such as sesame, sulfites, mustard, and corn.
The report reiterated how allergy-friendly options are also valuable to the much larger number of people who have food and drink intolerances or sensitivities that cause unpleasant digestive symptoms such as bloating.

8 Amazing Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid In Skincare – Salon Priv Magazine
Posted: at 4:03 pm
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in the joints, skins, and eyes responsible for moisturizing these body areas. Unfortunately, the aging process leads to the decline of this acid in the body, resulting in dry and flaky skin. On the flip side, it is also available in many other forms from topical treatments, oral tablets, injections, and the likes. Let us look into some of the key benefits of using hyaluronic acid for skincare.
Did you know that a whopping 50% of the bodys hyaluronic acid can be found on the skin? Yes, but over time, this amount reduces due to the aging process and exposure to UV radiation, leading to signs like wrinkles. Well, using products with acid can help with anti-aging properties. It reduces the depth of wrinkles by improving skin firmness and elasticity.
We all get wounded from time to time. Research has revealed that hyaluronic acid speeds up the tissue regeneration process and helps the body heal wounds faster. Applying hyaluronic acid to the skin also relieves the pain of inflammation.
The eyes are another place where you will find a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. Well, if you are experiencing dry eyes, you can use eye drops containing hyaluronic acid to ease their symptoms. Remember to speak to a doctor who will help you find out the root cause
One major benefit of hyaluronic acid skin care is skin hydration. It tends to improve skin moisture and is normally used by patients to treat dry skin. Research has revealed that individuals taking hyaluronic supplements reported a 96% increase in skin moisture only eight weeks after using the treatment.
Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to crack and develop patches of itchiness and inflammation. Studies have shown that patients who used the acid in the form of foam reported relief from eczema symptoms compared to other treatments containing ceramide. In other words, hyaluronic acid can reduce mild to moderate symptoms of dermatitis in patients.
The aging process, among other factors, can lead to rough skin texture. Textured skin can lead to low self-esteem among other psychological effects on some people. Hyaluronic is quite effective in smoothing the skins surface improving its elasticity.
Hyaluronic acid also adds volume to the lips and cheeks, making it an excellent and safer option for fillers. As mentioned earlier, it naturally occurs in the eyes, joints, and skin. Since this chemical is closely related to substances produced in our bodies, you are assured minimal irritation.
You will be pleased to know that hyaluronic acid is absorbed relatively fast on the skin, unlike other skin products on the market. Therefore, a little goes a long way, and you end up using less product. It is also kind on the skin. In fact, most patients who use serums and lotions with acid have not reported any side effects.
These are a few benefits of using hyaluronic acid for skincare. That said, ensure you only source products from reputable vendors.

Framed by Gomezs sleek brunette bobinward-styled ends and subtle mahogany highlights aiding in the throwback effecta graphic cat-eye became a bit less expected when smudged to achieve a slightly blurred finish. Next, an overlined lip painted in a brickish brown came with a generous swipe of gloss, offering a perfect juxtaposition to Gomezs matte complexion.
Precise power brows, washes of blush and bronzer, and a hefty dose of attitude proved that, when executed correctly, some details span time and place. Review of The Zeitgeist Movement Defined (9781495303197 …

TZM Lecture Team CreateSpace (Jan 22, 2014)Softcover $13.83 (324pp)978-1-4953-0319-7
Clarion Rating: 4 out of 5
A team of essayists show how scientific and psychological advancements can improve society in this scholarly collection.
In eighteen research-based essays covering subjects such as psychology, economics, and scientific theory, The Zeitgeist Movement Defined views the American political and economic systems through a different kind of lens.
Composed of a panel of lecturers, the Zeitgeist Movement seems to direct itself by way of a train of thought that follows this self-generating premise of understanding and it hence operates in a non-centralized, holographic manner, with this train of thought as the origin of influence for action. In a nutshell, the goal behind the Zeitgeist Movement has to do with changing societys influences and pressures in an attempt to reveal the best of the human condition. This type of change isnt easy though. This is why, according to the authors, the book relies so heavily on research-based material, avoiding the more colorful and dramatic language expected from a book that tries to convince readers of something.
But The Zeitgeist Movement Defined never seems to attempt to convince its audience. Even though its goal is to address a range of political and social issues, the real substance these lecturers address is the underlying issues that seem to have permeated American society. Besides delving into specific cases of things like racism or poverty, TZM Lecture Team uses scientific data from these problems, presented in the most objective way possible. In terms of solutions to these problems, the book never pushes any sort of hard-line political rhetoric. Rather, the lecturers view these problems from a scientific standpoint, recognizing that as our understanding of both social science and human behavior changes, so should the way we address these problems. For example, when it comes to the incarceration of criminals, the lecturers acknowledge that the science behind human behavior has changed tremendously with respect to understanding causality. It is now common knowledge in the social sciences that most acts of crime would likely not occur if certain basic, supportive environmental conditions were set for the human being.
A large part of this books strategy has to do with simply acknowledging how the persisting problems in American society are tied to a much deeperand certainly much scariereconomic and political climate, which favors a capitalist ideology that has resulted, according to the book, in what Dr. James Gilligan termed structural violence. The context of this term in The Zeitgeist Movement Defined extends to include the often unseen social oppression that, through the chain of causality characteristics inherent to our social system, leads to the unnecessary harm of people, both physical, psychological or both. Backed by extensive research, the book addresses this system of structural violence, which includes everything from heart disease to class inequities, issues the book ties to increases in poverty and a decrease in the psychological well-being of people.
One of the achievements of this book is its ability to find research-based connections between seemingly unrelated social and economic conditions. Without becoming repetitive or dull, each essay is able to shed light on specific issues in a way that is neither too academic nor too informal. Powerful quotes are used at the beginning of chapters, research is clearly footnoted throughout, and the languagealbeit at times somewhat technical and term-heavydoes well to give a picture of how one social problem influences the next, and how one scientific advancement could, if accepted and adopted into society properly, change the way all humans interact with the environment that surrounds them.

Millennials Are the Silencing Generation – The Wall Street Journal

OK millennial, you dont care for us baby boomers. You complain that weve taken all the food off the table and left you the crumbs. You say we cling to our jobs and wont make room for you. And you especially resent how, throughout, we took ownership of the zeitgeist, the spirit of the age.
In the 1960s we were a youth movement that demanded to be heard. We marched on the Pentagon and occupied college administration buildings. In the 1970s we mellowed, listened to the Band and the Eagles, and read Charles Reichs The Greening of America. In the 1980s we rebounded as yuppies. We became investment bankers and lawyers, and the women among us wore suits with padded shoulders. Thereafter we ascended to political powernot always wisely, truth be told. But our music had lyrics and melodies, and our protest songs took on real injustices. We cemented a civil-rights revolution for women and minorities and left a mark on all succeeding generations.

10 Watches We Hope to See in 2022 – gearpatrol.com
Posted: at 4:03 pm
The year ahead holds some interesting possibilities for the watch world. Each year sees watch brands celebrate any anniversary with a round number, but 2022 marks a big one: the iconic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak turns 50. This and other factors suggest that the already white-hot category of sport-lifestyle watches represented by the Royal Oak will further heat up in 2022.
The Royal Oak created a new genre of watches in 1972 by offering a steel luxury watch with a sporty style more so than a sporty purpose. Watches with similar traits (integrated bracelets, prominent bezels, polygonal shapes, etc.) like the Patek Philippe Nautilus followed, along with an army of wannabes. This type of watch will be in the zeitgeist even more in 2022 than it already is.
The year ahead will see Royal Oak designer Gerald Genta's own Royal Oak auctioned, Patek Philippe is expected to replace its outgoing 5711 with a new Nautilus, and the Vacheron Constantin Overseas has an anniversary of its own. But what does this mean for the industry in general? Aside from much fanfare from those brands, we expect the concept to trickle down to more affordable brands, as we've already seen it begin to.
The year won't only be about the Royal Oak, though, as we expect other trends to continue: it's about time for green dials to follow blue and go mainstream; and shrinking median watch sizes may settle around 39-40mm. Can we expect more balance between vintage reissues and fresh, forward-looking designs? Watch consumers are surely starting to itch for that.
The year ahead will hopefully be full of interesting watches, and even surprises (we like those). To whet your horological appetite, below are some of the watches we'd like to see and some of what we expect in 2022.
The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 is discontinued, but it would be insane for Patek to simply stop making one of the most successful watches of all time at the height of its popularity. The Nautilus collection, however, lives on, and there'll have to be some new version with a new reference number to replace the 5711 eventually. We don't expect it to be a radical departure.
Expectation for the outgoing 5711's replacement will be part of the general zeitgeist of 2022. It's perfectly plausible, however, that the brand will stay silent for a year or longer on whatever it's got in store for the collection, and simply let the hype build.
There are a few reasons to expect something new from the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. Firstly, the Overseas' progenitor, the "222" from 1977, has its own 45th birthday in 2022. Secondly, the Overseas is Vacheron's answer to the Royal Oak and Nautilus, but it doesn't have the same overinflated prices, hype and availability issues, and it therefore has the chance to fill a market niche.
What can we expect from the Overseas? The upgrades the line got in 2016 are still looking fresh, but they leave a gap between 37mm and 41mm sizes. A 39mm automatic version (ok, maybe some with variations or complications, too) would be in-line with current tastes and trends. To make it more than just a new size of an existing model, vintage cues that reference the 222 would help it feel more special and deliberate.
Yes, the Porsche Design brand is also turning 50 in 2022, and its catalog is wide open to include a reissue of its inaugural product: the world's first all-black watch.
Though Porsche Design hasn't leaned in to the rest of the industry's vintage reissue bonanza and remained resolutely modern in its designs, the anniversary presents an opportunity. A reissue would be cool, but we'd be equally happy with a modern interpretation perhaps with relatively "vintage sizing." The brand recently seems more open to smaller case sizes as evidenced by its 39mm Sport Chrono.
Only a couple Rolex watches remain that haven't yet gotten the latest movement upgrade. With a compelling backstory and a pretty funky look for the brand, the Milgauss remains one of Rolex's most distinctive watches. It's about time for it to get some love and attention.
While the people fantasize about amazing new Rolexes, like a "Coke" (black-and-red-bezel) GMT Master II or even a titanium Yachtmaster, modest and very subtle tweaks and upgrades to existing watches are generally what you can expect. Rolex's 3230 movement for the Milgauss would be the minimum we'd expect, but something like a new colorway (there are currently two) would make an even bigger splash.
We're just going to keep hammering at this until we get it: for god's sake, Tudor, a Black Bay Fifty Eight GMT is a no-brainer! Will hit happen? We think eventually it will. The simple formula of the Black Bay GMT in the Fifty Eight's 39mm size would be celebrated, but Tudor regularly surprises us. We might not get exactly what we want this year, but we can't help but dream.
Someone pointed it out recently: Omega hasn't yet brought much green to its sport watch collections. Everyone else is doing it, the trend seems set to continue, and the brand hasn't been afraid of color in the past, so why not?
Although the Seamaster Planet Ocean might seem like a good candidate, with a precedent of colorful iterations, it'd be particularly cool to see it on the more versatile Seamaster Diver 300m. It's pretty well established that just about any watch that also looked good when it got a blue treatment can also look great in green, and the Seamaster Diver 300m fits the bill.
For Only Watch 2021, Girard Perregaux teamed up with Bamford Watch Department on something rather unexpected. It was like a reissue of the funky LED driver's watches the brand made in the 1970s, but with a very modern case in carbon fiber and titanium.
The one-off creations for the Only Watch auction often portend future releases, so it seems possible that Girard-Perregaux has something like a collection in the works in a more accessible execution such as stainless steel or titanium. It would fit the industry's general vintage reissue trend but sure would be interesting to see from the prestigious brand otherwise firmly rooted in mechanical watchmaking.
A while back, Citizen released some of its very cool and affordable Promaster "Fugu" dive watches with automatic movements. Unfortunately, they were only available in certain regions, and not in others like the United States. We thought they'd arrive eventually, but we're still waiting.
It's currently hard to find any automatic watches on Citizen's US site (aside from a couple weird, high-end ones) despite that the brand owns Miyota, one of the biggest producers of automatic movements in the world. Citizen has the chance to fill a market niche and compete with Seiko dive watches, and maybe this will be the year we'll finally see it happen.
This is the last thing about integrated-bracelet watches, I promise. The IWC Ingenieur collection was last overhauled in 2017 to reference its conservative 1955 roots, but the resulting dressy watches don't add much to the brand's catalog. Why not bring back the Ingenieur of 1976?
Redesigned by Gerald Genta (him again) with all the sporty style that made the Royal Oak successful (and introduced the same year as Patek's Nautilus), the Ingenieur gives IWC the chance to offer something hip with legitimate provenance at a competitive price.
Shortly after I pleaded with G-Shock to offer an online watch customizer, news emerged on G-Central that the company's financial report mentioned plans for such a program "starting with Japan." The program is called "My G-Shock," and we can only hope that we'll see it more widely available in 2022 with all the models, colors and options we dream of.
