The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) is extending expiration dates for those patients who register early for a medical cannabis card. Cards typically expire after a year; however, as a bonus, all patients who register early or have already registered, will have the term of their card extended to the following:

"OMC takes patient concerns seriously, including apprehension about product availability, said Dr. Ayne Amjad, State Health Officer and Commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health within the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. While permitted industry continues to work to build out facilities in the state, OMC will extend the card expiration date for patients who register early. Medical cannabis is an alternative treatment option for many suffering from chronic conditions.

Industry facilities are currently under construction and are anticipated to become operational this summer. Cannabis plants require 3-4 months to grow to maturity for harvest. With these timelines in place, the first products are anticipated to be available fall of 2021.

Self-care leader Deepak Chopra announced a new partnership Tuesday with MindMed, a clinical-stage psychedelic medicine biotech company, and explained that the collaboration was in line with his continued interest in the relation of the mind to body.

"I am partnering with MindMed for the public education and the public awareness of the research on psychedelics," Chopra said. "I don't believe psychedelics are a panacea, but I think they have a big role...with PTSD, in mental distress depression, suicide prevention and much, much more."

A phase 3 clinical trial revealed that MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy, combined with therapy helped people with severe post-traumatic stress disorder. Two-thirds of participants in the MDMA test group no longer qualified for a diagnosis of PTSD two months after treatment. Therapists caution, however, that the treatment cannot be replicated at home with the street version of the drug.

Chopra told CNBC's "The News with Shepard Smith" that mental distress "is the number one pandemic in the world," and that every 40 seconds, someone is committing suicide, and was another reason why he wants to bring awareness to psychedelics.

Host Shepard Smith did note to Chopra that he has "a long history of supporting alternative medicines with varying results that are often questioned by doctors," and wanted to know how his partnership with MindMed is different. Smith added a quote by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins who has said that Chopra uses "quantum jargon as plausible-sounding hocus pocus."

Chopra explained to Smith that a Google search would result in the evidence when it comes to psychedelics and mindfulness.

"You just have to look up, just Google the evidence on mindfulness and mindful awareness on psychedelics, and ignore people like Dawkins," Chopra said.

Richard Dawkins did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

Actor Sonu Sood on Wednesday raised his concern over doctors recommending an injection or medicine despite it being unavailable. Taking to Twitter, he shared a post asking doctors if a substitute can be prescribed that will also help save a life.

Sonu tweeted, "One simple question: When everyone knows a particular injection is not available anywhere, why does every doctor recommends that injection only? When the hospitals cannot get that medicine then how will a common man get? Why can't v use a substitute of that medicine &save a life?"

His fans and followers reacted to the post. One wrote, "Yess , You're right Remdesvir can be substituted but Amphotericin B cannot be substituted , it's the drug of choice We'll have to do new research to develop new treatment , till then it's important." Another said, "Absolutely agree with you however it might be possible that all alternative medicines are in shortage condition now. But yes Doctor can always suggest few names with same chemical composition instead of same brand. Boss You are like a bright sunflower. Keep it up.#SaveLife" A third wrote, "@SonuSood Sir, The medicine will become scarce when demand rises and supply falls. Consequently, opening doors to more black marketing and fake medicines. Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) national secretary Sumit Agarwal tweeted, "Some medicines do NOT have an alternative. If youre referring to Liposomal amphotericin B, it has no known alternative as of now. They can only prescribe what medical science has created for them. It is the systems responsibility to ensure medicines are available not doctors."

Recently, Sonu responded after the Twitter account of Ganjam district magistrate and collector had said that his foundation didn't contact them to arrange a bed for a person who was in need, adding that it took credit for the same. Sonu then provided WhatsApp conversation screenshots with a person who was looking for an oxygen bed.

Sonu, since last year has been providing aid to those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In an interview in 2020, he had told SpotboyE, I am not really going out of my way to justify my behaviour to people who doubt my intentions. To be negative is in their DNA. Its not their fault. All these are trolls. They have no spine and they are only seeking attention.
