Can I visit the Maldives? Here’s how to do it as the islands reopen to tourism – Telegraph.co.uk

Posted: July 23, 2020 at 11:33 am

A travel corridor which would exempt British holidaymakers from UK quarantine is imminent, suggests tourism leader

The Maldives reopened to international tourists on July 15; Britons are not required to quarantine on arrival or present a negative Covid-19 test.

As resorts gradually welcome back guests and airlines increase services, British holidaymakers can enjoy a stay on one of the 1,192 coral islands, albeit facing quarantine on their return.

The Maldives is excluded from the Foreign Office (FCO) advisory against all but essential travel, making it less arduous to secure travel insurance for a trip there.

However, the country has yet to be included on the UK Governments travel corridors list, which means those travelling from the Maldives to the UK are required to self-isolate for 14 days.

This could soon change. Mr Thoyyib Mohamed, managing director of Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation, told Telegraph Travel: With the Maldives High Commission in the United Kingdom and the government of Maldives, discussions are underway to ease the travel restrictions for travellers from the UK. We hope that the Maldives will soon meet the conditions required for an easing of [the UK's] travel and border measures."

Tour operators have urged for the inclusion of this Indian Ocean nation, which lends itself to socially-distanced holidays think overwater villas for two and private beach dining.

"It's time for the UK Government to adopt a more pragmatic approach to its air bridge and quarantine advice, to help the travel industry, Brian Young, managing director of tour operator G Adventures, told Telegraph Travel. "Places like the Maldives are perfect for those wanting a remote holiday, with secluded accommodation, private villas and small sailing options [...] providing an ideal option for those wanting to create a physically distanced bubble holiday with close friends or family.

There are further signs that the Maldives could be included in the Governments next batch of travel corridors. An amendment to the FCO advice page for the country mirrors a note added to each of the countries included in the first batch of exemptions in the days before the first official announcement of travel corridors.

Derek Jones, chief executive of Kuoni, told Telegraph Travel that he is hopeful there will soon be a Government update on Maldives travel advice .As it stands now we see no reason why it shouldnt be added [...]. The destination has done a lot of work with hotel partners to create plans for keeping customers safe.

The tourism industry accounts for nearly 30 per cent of GDP in the Maldives, so its reopening has been a priority.

Abdulla Shahid, the archipelagos minister for foreign affairs, referred to a sense of relief and excitement as the country welcomes back tourists.

Among a population of 540,000, the country has recorded 2,831 cases of the virus and 15 deaths, as of July 16.

Below we answer the key questions for those considering a holiday in the Maldives.

Yes, Britons can holiday at a resort without having to quarantine on arrival.

International tourists can enter the Maldives, without quarantine, at Velana International Airport in Mal, as of July 15. Visitors are not required to present a negative Covid-19 test on arrival, or to pay any additional fees.

The Maldives requires passengers on flights to the country to wear face masks, with exemptions for children under six and those with certain medical conditions.

Tourists are required to fill out a Traveller Health Declaration Form 24 hours before departing for the Maldives. They are also encouraged to download the Trace Ekee contract tracing app before landing in the country.

Temperature and screening checks are set up for arriving passengers with quarantine facilities installed for any suspected cases of the virus.

Those displaying symptoms on arrival are required to take a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test at their own cost or at the cost of the tourism facility where they are due to stay. Additionally, local health authorities may conduct random testing, at no cost to travellers.

Yes, airlines are offering a handful of flights to the Maldives with connections in the Middle East.

Emirates and Qatar Airways are running services between London and Mal. Mal Velana International Airport is on Hulhul Island and serves as a gateway for international tourists. Transfers to your resort will be by boat, sea plane or a domestic flight. Return flights are available in July, starting from 620, with Emirates.

Qatar Airways resumed flights to the Maldives on July 15 out of Doha, offering connections through major hubs, including London.

Etihad resumed flights from Abu Dhabi to the Maldives from July 16. Turkish Airlines is tentatively starting flights from July 17.

Initially, international tourists will only be able to stay at resorts. Hotels and guest houses located on inhabited islands will be allowed to open from August 1, 2020.

Of more than 150 resorts in the Maldives, at least 40 are set to reopen in the latter half of July. This includes resorts that have stayed open throughout worldwide lockdowns and travel restrictions.

Among the popular resorts welcoming guests are: Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, three Four Seasons resorts (Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa; Four Seasons Private Island Maldives at Voavah; Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru), Soneva Fushi (the original barefoot Maldives retreat) and Soneva Jani.

More will follow suit in August; around 50 more will resume business in September and October.

Tourists are only initially allowed into island resorts, with the exemption for those transferring from the international airport to their hotel.

Despite the resumption of tourism, the country extended its state of public health emergency until August 7. However, restrictions have been eased with government offices and businesses, including shops, cafs and restaurants, having reopened since July 1.

The Maldives Government has given Safe Tourism licences to businesses that meet legislation and safety rules, such as having a medical professional on call or the required stock of PPE.

Rules vary among island resorts. Guests of Soneva properties, for example, will be issued a mask on arrival and be tested for Covid-19. They will then be required to self-isolate in their room or villa until the results come back, which could be up to 24 hours. If the test comes back negative, they will be free to move around the resort, but will need to undergo daily temperature checks and another test on the fourth day of their stay.

You might consider that this is excessive and that were being overcautious, said Sonu Shivdasani, chief executive of Soneva, in a video explaining the process. Yet he said the aim was to make all our private islands Covid-free environments so the guests can truly relax and engage with our hosts (and) fellow guests.

Hilton is slowly reopening its properties on the island nation its guests will have their temperatures checked, but will not be required to take Covid-19 tests.

The company has rolled out new guidelines called Hilton CleanStay for all of its properties. Measures include increased cleaning of public spaces and putting a seal on the doors after cleaning a room to show customers that nobody has since entered.

Meanwhile, Marriott International, which plans to reopen its Maldives resorts in October, is putting in new policies, such as requiring guests to sit at the same table each day for breakfast.

Vertical Wellness Inks Deals With Tech-Holdings, GenCanna And Kathy Ireland ‘To Weather Storm’ – Benzinga

Posted: at 11:33 am

Vertical Wellness continues to expand despite the daunting challenges being faced amid the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic and current economic downturn.

The company, faced with its own challenges, inkedseveral partnerships aimed at establishing itself as a leader in the hemp and CBD industry.

Vertical Wellness expanded its strategic processing and extraction partnership with GenCanna. As part of the agreement, GenCanna will deliver more than 15 million pounds of unprocessed hemp to Vertical Wellness production facility in Cadiz, Kentucky.

In addition, Vertical acquired Tech Holdings, a company that invented and patented a procedure that allows delivering cannabinoid ingredients in a way that makes them more effective and faster-acting.

Finally, Vertical signed a licensing partnership with Kathy IrelandWorldwide for a CBD product line.

The team at Tech-Holdings accomplished what few in the industry could by delivering products with the ability to be more effective and faster acting," Vertical CEO Smoke Wallin told Benzinga. "Its a game changer that will help distinguish our products from others.

This, combined with the expansion of Verticals relationship with GenCanna to increase processing and extolling ability for higher volumes of biomass, further positions Vertical Wellness as an industry leader in the hemp and CBD industry, and allow us to continue in an upward trajectory, he added.

Commenting on Tech Holdings technology itself, Wallinsaid Verticalaspires to be a true health and wellness brand company.

"We understand the branding and distribution world as well or better than anyone in the industry," he said. "Adding to that capability by strategically bringing in developed IP for better delivery of cannabinoid derived products is a core part of achieving our vision You can expect more strategic moves along these lines as we go forward.

Last Fall, Vertical Wellness was 36 hours away from executing a reverse merger with a $230 million Nasdaq-traded SPAC at a $500 million valuation. That deal evaporated in the midst of the hemp and CBD market collapse, which was driven by a massive harvest coupled with a lack of processing solutions and FDA headwinds.

We harvested 4 million lbs of our own hemp, which we could not easily convert to cash, Wallinsaid.I recognized that the capital markets were going to be tough for some time and getting public was not a realistic short-term funding mechanism. At that point, my team had a series of strategy meetings on how to weather the coming storm.

Vertical had invested some $22 million in building out the company, butthe demand for large amounts of CBD oil was not there yet.

Meanwhile, its brand portfolio was at the launch stage, and requiredinvestment. Wallin knew he had to pivot to survive.

By February I watched sevenof the largest companies in the hemp/CBD processing that together had raised almost $400 million go bankrupt or out of business," he said. "At that time, I made the decision to lay off 60 members of our team just as the shutdown for COVID19 began. Thats when we pivoted and created Vertical Wellness Services Division to utilize our infrastructure investment in Kentucky."

Leveraging his investment banking relationships, Wallin landed introductions to some of the groups trying to recover investments in these distressed companies.

This enabled us to ramp up our services business, help investors in other hemp processors and cover our operating costs, he said.

The company has since been able to rehire more than 40 of the teammates that had been terminated, and expects to have a larger team than before the pandemic in just a few more weeks.

In retrospect, we made a great move at the right moment of time to cut costs and survive.Sometimes surviving is the CEOs mission, he concluded. Now Im back to what I love to do, which is growth.

4 Reasons why CBD is Great for Women – Women Fitness

Posted: at 11:33 am

4 Reasons why CBD is Great for Women :CBD products come with a wide variety of benefits. The substance affects the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a network of neurotransmitters thats universal to all mammals. The ECS regulates everything from your sleep patterns to your immune system response. By interfering with the ECS, CBD is able to positively influence many areas of your health.

The full scope of what CBD can do is still a subject of research. But some of the benefits we know about make CBD a very attractive substance for women of all walks of life. Heres how CBD can make your life easier.

How often do you feel sore at the end of a long day? Trying to stay healthy while working and parenting can be physically and emotionally draining. And while it can be tempting to reach for a painkiller, we all know those carry some risks. Not least of them is the risk of creating a chemical dependency for the substances.

The good news is that CBD can reduce pain throughout your entire body. Not only is the substance an analgesic, but it also works as an anti-inflammatory. This means that CBD can treat both the symptoms and the cause of the pain, in most cases.

These properties are especially useful to help women recover after a long workout section.

Exercising, yoga, meditation, and dietary changes can all help reduce the symptoms of anxiety. Many women engage in all of those healthy habits, but that alone is not a guarantee of a stress-free life. Sometimes the pressures of the world are too much to handle without some extra help.

One of the most well-established benefits of CBD is the substances anxiolytic properties. CBD helps reduce the symptoms of anxiety by lowering the levels of stress hormones in your bloodstream. CBD can also lower your blood pressure, further calming you down.

CBD has shown promise in helping women deal with PMS. Many of the negative symptoms of PMS are caused by inflammations and hormonal imbalances, both of which CBD can help reduce. And the substances analgesic properties can help deal with the painful cramps that are often associated with the condition.

Every woman is unique, and what works for others may not work for you. But for some women, CBD works as a silver bullet, bringing relief at a level that no pharmaceutical option was able to provide.

Insomnia is most common among women in general, and older women in particular. Being unable to sleep regularly not only makes life more difficult, but it can affect every single aspect of your health. Everything from heart conditions to depression has been associated with a lack of proper sleep.

The good news is that CBD also acts as a sleep aid. By helping you relax, the substance makes it easier for our body to drift into sleep. Want to learn more about CBD? Check out Cibdol.com.

COVID-19 tests: There’s an insurmountable backlog of virus tests. A rapid test could help. – NBC News

Posted: at 11:33 am

As the U.S. deals with massive delays in COVID-19 testing, doctors and scientists say another type of diagnostic test could alleviate the stress on labs. Rapid, or point-of-care, tests deliver results in just minutes, while lab-based tools can take days.

"Every day they wait is another day they need to quarantine, or if they're not, it's another day they could be infecting other people," Dr. Keith Jerome, who directs the molecular virology lab at the University of Washington medical school, said in an interview. "If you're getting results within 20 minutes, you can start taking the appropriate actions right away."

The National Institutes of Health announced Wednesday what it called an "unprecedented effort" to ramp up testing technology. Funded by $1.5 billion in federal stimulus money, the program will focus on creating rapid tests and distributing them more widely.

It's also being called for by lawmakers and top federal health officials. President Donald Trump promised more rapid testing during his briefing Tuesday. And Dr. Brett Giroir, who is overseeing the nation's COVID-19 testing, said this month that he expected 5 million additional "point-of-care" tests in July, with a goal of 20 million or more by September.

The tests produce such quick results because samples aren't sent off to labs. Instead, they're inserted directly into a machine housed at a doctor's office or a hospital. The machine does the entire analysis, so instead of hours, it takes just minutes to get results similar to rapid flu or strep tests used by most doctors.

Six point-of-care tests are authorized by the Food and Drug Administration, including two antigen tests, which look for certain proteins in the virus rather than genetic material.

As promising as the rapid tests seem to be, a significant problem prevents more doctors and clinicians from using them. Most aren't as accurate as lab-based tests, and, in some cases, they can have shockingly high rates of false negatives.

Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak

Let our news meet your inbox. The news and stories that matters, delivered weekday mornings.

Joseph Petrosino, director of molecular virology and microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine, compares it to eating at a fast-food joint.

"If you go to a gourmet restaurant, you don't expect your meal to be ready in five minutes," he said. "But if you're on the go and you eat fast food, the quality of food is usually a sacrifice, compared to the gourmet restaurant. That's the same thing in the testing world."

One of the more popular rapid tests, Abbott Labs' ID NOW point-of-care test, which promises results in as little as five minutes and was once touted by the White House, came under fire in recent weeks after a small study found that it returned false negatives for nearly 50 percent of certain samples compared to a rival test. While other studies found more accurate results, it was enough for the FDA to issue an alert in May. The agency has received 147 adverse event reports about the test.

"The reality is that trying to do this really fast the combination of fast and sensitive turns out to be really a challenge," said Dr. Christopher Polage, director of the clinical microbiology laboratory at Duke University Health System.

Polage said COVID-19 testing is a lengthy process. In the lab, scientists use special reagents that amplify or copy a sample's genetic material to test for the virus. The process takes several hours. When you try to short-cut it for a rapid test, you can end up trading off the test's sensitivity.

"No patient is ever going to wait at a clinic for eight hours," Polage said. "So it's really difficult and, in some cases, impossible to get an equivalent result in a fraction of the time."

Jerome said, "You have to really keep in mind that there is a trade-off that you've made for that speed, and the trade-off is they're not as sensitive, which means they're going to miss some people who actually have COVID and tell them COVID isn't there."

A point-of-care test made by Cepheid Inc. of Sunnyvale, California, which gives results in about an hour, has been shown to be nearly as accurate as lab-based tests. But scientists say that the machine is expensive and that, as with some lab-based tests, some of the reagents it uses are in short supply.

"If you can wait an hour, you can get really good results," Jerome said. "The issue with those has been just shortages of reagents, and the machine itself is just not available enough that everybody can have one." He said UW Medicine, the health care system affiliated with the University of Washington, can use it only in the emergency room, where it needs to quickly test trauma patients so doctors and nurses know what kind of protective gear they need to wear.

But some doctors say that instead of focusing on rapid tests, which are notoriously difficult to perfect both rapid strep and flu tests also have issues with accuracy the U.S. should focus on fixing capacity issues with lab-based tests, which are being slowed in part because of supply shortages.

"We have the equipment, but we can't get the reagents," Jerome said. "We did a little over 7,000 tests yesterday in my laboratory. But we could have done 7,000 more if we had full allotments of reagents."

The delays in testing have a real impact for people like Frank Borsa, 55, who anxiously waited for days to find out whether he was infected after he returned to Brooklyn, New York, from Miami.

"It's really frustrating," Borsa said while he was still waiting for the results. "I've called repeatedly. What you get is 'it's taking a little bit longer.' It's very difficult, because you don't know how to go forward."

He finally got his results 12 days after he took the test at a New York City urgent care center. He was negative. But he said he now understands what the hubbub around testing is all about.

"Even though there might be hundreds of thousands of tests performed per day, if people are not getting their results, this is never going to end," he said. "The communication is there's tons of tests. But if there's no results, what good is it?"

Donald Trump says ‘just ask Prince Andrew’ when probed about Epsteins ‘paedophile island’ – Express

Posted: at 11:33 am

The US President described the infamous Caribbean island as a cesspool and told reporters to ask the Duke of York, claiming hell tell you about it.It came as the outspoken billionaire linked the Epstein scandal to his political rival Bill Clinton before he entered the 2016 US presidential race. Andrew acknowledges he visited Epstein on his privately-owned Little Saint James island but says he never witnessed anything untoward and never suspected Epstein of any crimes.

Trump - who also socialised with Epstein in the years before the late financier was disgraced and jailed for child sex crimes - spoke at a CPAC conservative gathering.

In a Q&A session with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump was asked for his view on Bill Clinton and said: Nice guy, got a lot of problems coming up in my opinion with the famous island with Jeffrey Epstein.

Later, Trump was asked to expand on this in an interview with Bloomberg and brought up Prince Andrew.

He said: That island was really a cesspool, there's no question about it.

Just ask Prince Andrew, he'll tell you about it. The island was an absolute cesspool.

Asked whether the issue would impact Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign, Trump said it could be a political problem.

At the time, Epstein was already a known paedophile because of his 2008 conviction in Florida and was embroiled in a lawsuit with Virginia Roberts Giuffre, the woman who alleges she had sex with Prince Andrew on three occasions.

Andrew has denied any wrongdoing and said he does not recall ever meeting Ms Roberts.

READ MORE:Prince Andrew and Ghislaine Maxwell's secret meeting at Palace

Buckingham Palace issued a statement that read: It is emphatically denied that the Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts.

Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.

Before Epstein's conviction, he had a vast network of wealthy and powerful friends including Andrew, Trump and the Clintons.

Epstein bought Little St James island - a spot in the US Virgin Islands - for $7.95million (6.3million) in 1998. It was later dubbed paedophile island.

The Virgin Islands sued Epstein's estate earlier this year, claiming the late sex offender raped and trafficked dozens of women and young girls there.

The complaint alleges that Epstein's abuse spanned from 2001 to 2018 and targeted girls who appeared to be as young as 11 or 12.

The lawsuit seeks civil penalties plus some assets from Epstein's estimated $577.7million (459.7million) estate, including the forfeiture of his two private islands, Little St James and Great St James.

Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to a Florida state prostitution charge, and completed a 13-month jail sentence.

The scandal resurfaced in 2019 when the financier was arrested on new child sex charges in New York and then killed himself in jail.

Earlier this month, Epstein's partner Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested and charged with procuring underage girls for him to abuse.

Maxwell denies wrongdoing, but is due to stay in custody until a trial next year after she was denied bail by a federal judge.

Andrew, who is being treated as a witness by US prosecutors, is said to be bewildered by claims from the FBI that he is not cooperating.

His legal team claim they have reached out at least three times.

Andrew's BBC Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis last November was widely seen as a disaster and led to his resignation from public life just days later.

In a subsequent statement he said he regretted my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein and deeply sympathised with everyone who has been affected.

He added: Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.

50 million to boost islands’ economy – GOV.UK – GOV.UK

Posted: at 11:33 am

The Prime Minister is to announce today [23 July] the UK Government is committing 50 million to Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, unlocking the islands economic potential.

Mr Johnson will be marking one year as Prime Minister with a visit to Scotland. He will reaffirm his commitment to supporting all parts of the UK through the coronavirus pandemic.

The multimillion pound Islands Growth Deal will provide investment for local projects across the Scottish islands, driving sustainable economic growth and creating jobs. It will also help to attract further private and public sector investment.

Projects set to be supported by the Islands Growth Deal could include some which are developing space technology while others are researching new renewable energy systems. The deal will also support projects that will boost tourism and housing.

The announcement, made ahead of the Prime Ministers visit to Orkney, means that every part of Scotland is now covered by the innovative growth deals and takes UK Governments investment in deals across Scotland to more than 1.5 billion.

To date, this funding has supported innovative and exciting projects across Scotland including: a new concert hall in Edinburgh reaffirming the city as a global cultural leader, a feasibility study of the Borders Railway looking at improving transport links between England and Scotland, and the world-leading Oil & Gas Technology Centre in Aberdeen.

Scottish Secretary, Alister Jack, who will accompany Mr Johnson on his visit today, said:

The City Region and Growth Deals will be crucial to our economic recovery from coronavirus. Todays announcement means that every corner of Scotland will benefit from these and takes the UK Governments investment in growth deals across Scotland to more than 1.5 billion.

These deals are just part of the unprecedented support that the UK Government is providing to people and businesses in Scotland during this time. We have supported 900,000 jobs in Scotland with our furlough and self-employed schemes, including 11,600 across the islands.

We look forward to working with our partners across the islands and the devolved administration in Scotland to develop innovative and effective proposals.

Georgetown, Kentucky, July 23, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ecofibre Limited (Ecofibre, Company) (ASX:EOF, OTC-NASDAQ Intl Designation: EOFBF) is pleased to announce that the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR), Wynnewood, Pa., has begun patient enrollment in a phase II clinical trial using Ananda Health hemp-derived cannabidiol(CBD).

The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of a hemp-based CBD product, Ananda Health Spectrum gelcaps, on the severity and duration of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) among breast, colon, and ovarian cancer patients who received common types of neurotoxic chemotherapy.

Ecofibre and Ananda demonstrate their commitment to advancing the science of CBD with the launch of the Coala-T-CBD study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04398446). The phase II clinical trial began enrolling patients at LIMR in June.

CIPN is a debilitating condition that is often chronic, compromising patients quality of life and limiting their ability to complete a full course of potentially life-saving treatments. Currently, there are no safe and effective medications to treat or prevent CIPN, but research in animals treated with CBD offers hope.

The Coala-T-CBD StudyTMis the first clinical trial positioned to translate this success to humans and is led by oncologist Marisa Weiss, MD, the founder and chief medical officer of http://www.Breastcancer.org and Director of Breast Radiation Oncology and Breast Health Outreach at Lankenau Medical Center, Wynnewood, Pa

We are proud to be the first in the United States to study the impact of hemp-derived full spectrum CBD on CIPN, a condition that affects approximately 25% to 50% of pediatric and adult cancer patients undergoing neurotoxic chemotherapy, Weiss states.

Among other milestones, the Coala-T-CBD StudyTMreceived an IND (investigational new drug) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will use Ananda softgels in the study protocol. To our knowledge, this is the first phase II clinical trial using full-spectrum hemp extract for the treatment of CIPN to receive an FDA IND. This level of research is necessary to answer the global call from the medical community, patients, and regulatory bodies seeking effective treatment of this difficult, common chemotherapy side effect, says Weiss.

The IND allows for Weiss team to conduct the highest-quality research using a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Ananda Health Research Portfolio

The FDA has publicly requested data on hemp-derived CBD regarding tolerability, drug interactions, toxicity, and dosing. Ecofibre responded early by investing an additional USD $1.8 million in research across several studies.

In 2019, the company published a peer-reviewed study(DOI:10.1080/00325481.2019.1685298)regarding the effects of low-dose CBD in chronic pain patients. The results demonstrated that low-dose CBD was well tolerated and improved pain, sleep, mood, and opioid use.

The Coala-T-CBD StudyTMcontributes to Ecofibres growing clinical research portfolio examining CBD use across age groups, populations, disease states, and doses. Importantly, the Coala-T-CBD StudyTMwill offer critical insights on the use of higher-dose CBD.

Ecofibres second phase II clinical trial(ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04436081) will evaluate moderate-dose CBD on agitation, sleep, and mood in dementia patients. The moderate-dose study is currently pursuing its own FDA IND and expects patient enrollment in August in with a group of neurology and gerontology specialists in Virginia.

The Coala-T-CBD StudyTMincludes comprehensive physician and laboratory analyses to determine the safety ofmoderate- and high-doseCBD.

In addition to its clinical trials in the U.S., Ecofibre will support research on low-dose full-spectrum CBD later this year in Australia.

Alex Capano, Ecofibres Chief Science Officer, states, These studies will provide solutions for patients and contribute valuable data on the safety and efficacy of hemp CBD products. We understand the critical need for more sophisticated, rigorous research and are dedicated to closing those gaps.

Ecofibre CEO Eric Wang adds, A core foundation for Ananda Health has been to support quality research for patient and practitioner education. Whilst the recent pandemic has created market uncertainty, the Company remains highly committed to its long-term investment to support our customers, and the FDA in creating the knowledge base to inform better decisions for our industry.

We are pleased to work with such a high-quality group of researchers and physicians at LIMR, Wang continues The Coala-T-CBD StudyTMwill provide ongoing updates, and we anticipate completion in 2022.

NHL crowds will break records once coronavirus vaccine is ready: NY Islanders owner – Fox Business

Posted: at 11:33 am

FOX Business Charlie Gasparino says Wall Street is betting sports may make a big comeback once the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

While NHL games will be played without fans for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus pandemic, New York Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky expects record crowds in the stands by the time his teams new arena opens in 2021.

The Islanders tapped Swiss bank UBS to serve as the naming rights partner for their new arena in Elmont, New York, in a 20-year deal reportedly worth $350 million. Ledecky said UBS's massive long-term investment, announced at a time of unprecedented uncertainty in U.S. sports, signals thebusiness world expects packed crowds as soon as a coronavirus vaccine makes it safe to attend games in person.

I think the resilience of America and the resilience of our fans should not be underestimated, Ledecky told FOX Business. I think what youll see is that once the coast is clear, once the health authorities and the political authorities get together and say the coronavirus is on the decline or once a vaccine is developed, I think youre going to see people return to arenas and stadiums across this country in record numbersbecause they want to support the United States.

CORONAVIRUS PROMPTS NFL TO MANDATE FACE MASKS FOR FANS

UBS Arena at Belmont Park will serve as the centerpiece of a $1.5 billion development. Financial backers, including the Islanders, sports investment firm Oak View Group and New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpons Sterling Project Development, said the privately funded project will generate about $25 billion in economic activity, create 3,000 permanent jobs and support improvements in local infrastructure.

Construction on the Islanders new arena shut downfor several weeks in March, when the coronavirus pandemic brought nonessential work to a sudden halt and forced the NHL to suspend its season indefinitely. Despite the delay, Ledecky said the arena is still on track to open in time for the 2021-22 NHL season, adding that the Islanders organization is in a strong financial position despite the pandemics impact.

In fact, were going to be in the market hiring people, because when youre building a new arena and youre taking on a project of this magnitude, you need to add to your team, Ledecky said.

The UBS Arena project marks a major step for an Islanders franchise that had struggled for years to secure plans for a modern stadium. The team has been splitting its home games between the aging Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Described as the first third-generation arena, the stadium will feature state-of-the-art amenities such as digitally enhanced concession stands. Long restroom lines, a much-maligned hallmark of the Nassau Coliseum fan experience, willnot be an issue. UBS Arena will have more bathrooms than any other stadium in the U.S.

UBS won naming rights after a competitive bidding process that included offers from up-and-coming digital media companies and iconic New York companies, according to Ledecky. The Islanders chose UBS, which has its U.S. headquarters in New York, because the bank is on stable footing and is well-capitalized amid pandemic-related uncertainty.

What a great endorsement by UBS that the resiliency of New York will be there, Ledecky said.

The NHL will resume play on Aug. 1 in bubble environments established in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Edmonton. The Islanders will face the Florida Panthers in a five-game qualifying round to determine which team makes the playoffs.

While fans wont be able to attend the games in person, Ledecky said TV viewers can expect an electric experience. The NHL is expected to announce steps to recreate a traditional game environment in the coming days.

I think America has a chance here to fall in love with hockey all over again on television, Ledecky said.
