Options Traders Expect Huge Moves in CF Industries Holdings (CF) Stock – Nasdaq

Posted: August 11, 2017 at 6:22 pm

Investors in CF Industries Holdings, Inc. CF need to pay close attention to the stock based on moves in the options market lately. That is because the August 18 th , 2017 $22.50 Call had some of the highest implied volatility of all equity options today.

What is Implied Volatility?

Implied volatility shows how much movement the market is expecting in the future. Options with high levels of implied volatility suggest that investors in the underlying stocks are expecting a big move in one direction or the other. It could also mean there is an event coming up soon that may cause a big rally or a huge sell off. However, implied volatility is only one piece of the puzzle when putting together an options trading strategy.

What do the Analysts Think?

Clearly, options traders are pricing in a big move for CF Industries Holdings shares, but what is the fundamental picture for the company? Currently, CF Industries Holdings is a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) in the Fertilizers industry that ranks in the Bottom 33% of our Zacks Industry Rank. Over the last 60 days, no analysts have increased their earnings estimates for the current quarter, while four has dropped their estimates. The net effect has taken our Zacks Consensus Estimate for the current quarter from a loss of 23 cents per share to a loss of 51 cents in that period.

Given the way analysts feel about CF Industries Holdings right now, this huge implied volatility could mean there's a trade developing. Often times, options traders look for options with high levels of implied volatility to sell premium. This is a strategy many seasoned traders use because it captures decay. At expiration, the hope for these traders is that the underlying stock does not move as much as originally expected.

Beautify CF leader quits amid fight over signs – Myhorrynews

Posted: at 6:22 pm

Richard Skrip cleaned up Carolina Forest.

Now the beautification group he founded will have to carry on that work without his leadership.

Skrip resigned as president of Beautify Carolina Forest last month after a heated dispute with local real estate agents over open house signs, the groups volunteers said.

The disagreement grew so intense that someone went to Skrips house on July 24 and yelled at him for picking up the signs, according to an Horry County police report.

Skrip told the officer he and other Beautify Carolina Forest volunteers had removed the signs because they were illegally placed in the right of way, the report said. The other person involved was not identified in the report.

No one was arrested in the incident and the officer said he would look into whether any county policies were violated.

In an email to the Chronicle, Skrip did not elaborate on his reasons for leaving the organization he built, though he offered encouragement for those still involved with it.

The volunteers deserve support from the community and its leaders to continue beautification efforts, Skrip said.

I believe we set the groundwork over the past three years to improve the appearance of Carolina Forest and hope that others have been inspired to continue to beautify this community.

The remaining members said the departure of Skrip, who had been the groups president, and his wife Cindy will leave a tremendous void.

Rich and Cindy have made Carolina Forest a better and cleaner place to live with their tireless work, said Betsy Fay, one of the volunteers with Beautify Carolina Forest. They will both be missed, and I hope in the future they will be back as volunteers.

The Skrips started mowing the grass around the medians on Carolina Forest Boulevard after the local property owners association dissolved, Fay said.

Initially, they worked alone. But when people began asking questions about the couple cutting the grass, other volunteers came forward.

In 2014, the Skrips formed a beautification committee for the Carolina Forest Civic Association. Eventually, they founded the nonprofit, Beautify Carolina Forest.

The organization began hosting monthly litter cleanups, obtained state grants for planting crape myrtles, replaced the lighting on the big green Carolina Forest sign, and began sprucing up the communitys neglected gateways.

Through all this, Richard and Cindy were there, said Beautify Carolina Forest volunteer Dan Kniola. Without their diligent scheduling and messaging, this effort might have fallen apart.

Kniola met Richard Skrip through the civic association. Like Skrip, he was a retiree and he agreed picking up litter would be a worthwhile use of his time. He was impressed with Skrips organizational skills, how he sent out reminders, made sure there were always enough gloves, vests and bags for everyone, and made sure new volunteers signed the proper forms.

He watched as the organization grew to more than 70 volunteers.

Richard is driven, Kniola said.

Carol Franceski, Beautify Carolina Forests secretary, agrees. After Skrips resignation, she posted her praise on Facebook.

I am sure most [people] dont know what goes into dealing with the county to get things accomplished and approved, she wrote. It is a head banging job.

Franceski credits Skrip with highlighting the appearance problems in Carolina Forest.

The biggest accomplishment is making all the residents of CF aware of our area and the need to keep it clean and beautiful, she said.

Skrips effort to clear up illegal signs had been going on for years. Small markers would litter medians and get shredded by lawnmowers. Some ended up in the street.

County policy prohibits those signs from being left in the right of way, but county leaders have allowed real estate agents to put up open house signs on the weekends as long as they remove them before the work week begins.

It was just an unwritten rule: If yall pick them up after youre done with them on Sundays, we wont give you a hard time about it, Horry County Councilman Johnny Vaught said. Live and let live.

Vaught had hoped there could be a compromise.

Per county policy, the county should have been removing the signs, not the volunteers.

Vaught said he wouldnt have cared if the volunteers had hauled off the signs on weekdays, but the problem was county officials had given permission to real estate agents to place the signs on weekends, the same time the cleanup groups were out.

They were both doing what they thought they could do, he said.

Some of the remaining Beautify volunteers are upset with the way the county handled the situation. Theyre also disappointed about losing Skrip.

It is sad that a resource valuable to the county and the community is struck down while beraters become the apparent winners in a game where presumably all residents should win, Kniola said. If we can hold this together, it wont have the impetus it once did.

Volume Moving the Tape For CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) – Morgan Research

Posted: at 6:22 pm

Shares of CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) have seen the needle move 0.76% or 0.23 in the most recent session. The NYSE listed companysaw a recent bid of 30.69 on 513521 volume.

Investors may be trying to decide if the current market environment remains bullish. It can be extremely difficult to decide when to sell, especially when data seems positive and most signs are pointing higher. Jumping in to buy stocks on a pullback may seem like a good idea, but following specific sectors may become increasingly more important. Following long-term trends may help the investor see the bigger picture of what has been going on with a specific stock or sector. Deciding to sell a winner after a big run can be tempting, but knowing the underlying causes for the run may help identify if there may indeed be more room for gains. Avoiding common investing pitfalls may take many years to master, but it may end up determining long-term success.

Now letstake a look at how the fundamentals are stacking up for CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF). Fundamental analysis takes into consideration market, industry and stock conditions to help determine if the shares are correctly valued. CF Industries Holdings Inc currently has a yearly EPS of -1.40. This number is derived from the total net income divided by shares outstanding. In other words, EPS reveals how profitable a company is on a share owner basis.

Another key indicator that can help investors determine if a stock might be a quality investment is the Return on Equity or ROE. CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) currently has Return on Equity of -8.91. ROE is a ratio that measures profits generated from the investments received from shareholders. In other words, the ratio reveals how effective the firm is at turning shareholder investment into company profits. A company with high ROE typically reflects well on management and how well a company is run at a high level. A firm with a lower ROE might encourage potential investors to dig further to see why profits arent being generated from shareholder money.

Another ratio we can look at is the Return on Invested Capital or more commonly referred to as ROIC. CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) has a current ROIC of -1.91. ROIC is calculated by dividing Net Income Dividends by Total Capital Invested.

Similar to ROE, ROIC measures how effectively company management is using invested capital to generate company income. A high ROIC number typically reflects positively on company management while a low number typically reflects the opposite.

Turning to Return on Assets or ROA, CF Industries Holdings Inc (CF) has a current ROA of -1.39. This is a profitability ratio that measures net income generated from total company assets during a given period. This ratio reveals how quick a company can turn its assets into profits. In other words, the ratio provides insight into the profitability of a firms assets. The ratio is calculated by dividing total net income by the average total assets. A higher ROA compared to peers in the same industry, would suggest that company management is able to effectively generate profits from their assets. Similar to the other ratios, a lower number might raise red flags about managements ability when compared to other companies in a similar sector.

Trying to project the day to day short-term movements of the stock market may be all but impossible. Stocks have the tendency to make sudden moves on even the slightest bit of news or for apparently no reason at all. The daily trader may be looking to capitalize on swings or momentum, but the long-term investor may be searching for stability and consistency over a sustained period of time. During trading sessions, stock movements can seem like a popularity contest from time to time. Even after careful study, there may be no logical reason for a particular stock move. Riding out the waves of uncertainty may not be easy, but having a full-proof plan for when markets erode may just be the savior. Having the patience to wait out abnormal moves may help evade the mistake of letting go too soon out of panic.

How Not To Be A Dick To Your Childfree Friends

Posted: at 6:22 pm

I've decided that bringing a squalling, blood- and pus-covered infant into this world is not for me. I have no major ish with other peoples squalling, occasionally blood- and pus-covered offspring - in fact, I find some of them downright adorable.

Most of us of the childfree persuasion do not recoil in horror at the sight of a binkie, nor do we bathe in the blood of unbaptized babies. We just, you know, dont want babies of our own. This doesnt mean we hate your babies, or cant remember what it was like being a kid, or have no real purpose in life.

But it does mean we occasionally get annoyed at all the strange things people say to us about our lifestyle choices. Thus, I give you a list of Six Strange Things People Say to Childfree-by-Choice People:

1.I thought I didnt want kids, too - but then I grew up.

Other versions of this include, Youll change your mind when you get older or Youll feel differently once youve matured. Or even, Oh youre just going through a phase.

This line of reasoning is scarily similar to things queer people often hear - its just a phase, youll get over it, youre just trying to be edgy/trendy.

But by declaring that your childfree friend will change his or her mind implies two things:

Of course, quite the opposite on both points is often true. Arriving at the decision to never have children - not just maybe not have children or well see about children - is a tough one that typically involves quite a bit of soul-searching and introspection. Not least of which because those of us who make this choice know we are going to be spending the rest of our childbearing years defending our choice.

The conclusion: Self-awareness is a hallmark of maturity, and it takes a lot of self-awareness to choose to remain childfree with eyes wide open. So there.

2. So you must really hate kids, then.

No. No, a thousand times no. Anytime I ever express with even a whiff of certainty to someone that I dont want children (nope, not even adopted ones! Just furry ones, OK?), the next time I speak to them I get gems like this one: So, I know you hate kids, but I was wondering if youd be OK if my niece hung out with us today?

Just to clarify: I said I didnt want to invite a tiny tyrant into my house to live, permanently, holding me hostage to "Blues Clues" and whatever else the kids are watching these days, every day, for the next 18 years. That is a far cry from kicking it with someones rad offspring every couple of weeks.

Just because I dont want a pet lizard or a pair of sky-high Manolos doesnt mean I hate either of those things. Lizards are super-cool! I like that they exist and I appreciate visiting them in the zoo or at friends houses, but I personally prefer a different sort of pet. Manolos are beautifully constructed shoes but alas, my feet just arent suited to that sort of life. Cest la vie - everyones different and differences are good!

3. Youre just selfish.

Despite this statement being a bitter, vitriolic insult, for some reason people feel comfortable saying it to my face when in the kid context. The thing is, no one would call me selfish if I had said, No, Id rather not lend you $241,080 youll never pay back, thanks. ($241,080 is the average cost to raise a child in 2013 according to CNN Money, by the way - and thats not including college tuition.)

So while refusing to lend your friends money or let a stranger borrow your car is just common sense, politely declining to live with and care for an expensive, time-consuming human being that you actually kinda-sorta-no-wait-really dont want? Thats just selfish! (Riiiight.)

If you think critically about it, not having kids - and all the vigilance that entails for many people - is actually a pretty unselfish choice. If you dont want to be a parent, you may not make a very good one in fact, you may wind up resentful and bitter, or even abusive (emotionally or physically).

The mythology surrounding parenthood - self-sacrifice, unpaid and often unappreciated hard labor - goes a long way to support the idea that childfree people are just selfish. But at its core, choosing to have children (and dedicate your life or large part of it to them) is a self-motivated - and therefore selfish - act.

Yes, parenting is hard. And it does require sacrifice and it is underappreciated - but that still doesnt make me selfish or wrong.

4. One day, itll just happen.

This phrase is magical thinking mixed with horrible euphemism, and leaves me feeling a little violated. Its so bizarrely perverted; if you dig beneath the surface, what the person is actually saying is this:

You say you dont want kids now, but one day all those preventative measures youre taking will inevitably fail, and BOOM! Youll have responsibility for a human being you never wanted! Isnt the miracle of life just incredible?

That's just messed up.

And: Saying this to straight people is bad enough. But saying it to queer people? Hilare. Believe it or not, Ive actually had people say this to me, and one day, when Ive had exactly the right amount of martini, Ill respond with: You do know how babies are made, right?

5. So, whats your purpose in life, then?

The idea that people without children have no purpose is deeply disturbing - not just personally, but on a philosophical level. Humor my "woah, dude" moment: If every humans greatest purpose in life is simply just to reproduce, then what are we? Mindless replicating machines? To what end? We have children so that they can have children so that they can have children and nothing anyone does outside of that has any value or worth? I dont want to live in this dystopian world.

It boggles my mind that there are people who think this way, but it comforts me to know that perhaps they havent thought too deeply on the subject. Even profoundly dedicated stay-at-home parents surely measure their worth and guide their lives by multiple criteria, just like the rest of us. Good partner, loving parent, rock-star entrepreneur, environmental activist, kick-ass sister, long-distance Frisbee champion - its a veritable smorgasbord of lifes-purpose choices out there, and limiting yourself to just one thing means youre going to get a heck of a lot less out of life than you otherwise could.

6. But wholl take care of you when youre old?

The state, duh.

I kid, I kid. But seriously, since when is everyones offspring required to sign a legally binding contract that they will care for their parents in their old age? American culture is such that counting on your kids to visit you more than once every few years at the nearest Qwik-E-Retire-Mart they abandoned you at in exchange for your signature on a living will is asking a lot.

I joke, but the state of elder care in our nation is in serious crisis. Sure, some peoples kids grow up to be responsible, caring adults who are financially sound and emotionally mature enough to care for aging parents. But, some peoples kids grow up to be deadbeats, or assholes, or too poor to be able to help much.

Counting on children as a retirement plan is a gamble at best. Best to make other plans, even if you do have kids.

I anticipate these sorts of comments will continue unabated until I hit menopause. Putting up with people questioning my motives and stick-tuitiveness is just a side effect of making a life choice thats a little out of the ordinary.

And thats fine - I feel pretty secure in the knowledge that not wanting my own children is not the same thing as being a heartless, selfish, baby-hating bon vivant. (Im just a regular bon vivant, thank you very much.)

I look forward to a life full of other peoples kids - and being one kick-ass aunt. But I still dont want my own babies - and theres nothing wrong with that.

Ted Nugent Claims ‘Political Correctness’ Is Keeping Him Out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – Ultimate Classic Rock

Unlike a number of classic rock artists, Ted Nugent says hed happily accept induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but he says he knows itll never happen, thanks to the self-inflicted and embarrassing scourge of political correctness that permeates the institution from the top down.

Discussing the issue with Q103FM in Albany (during an interview that you can listen to above), Nugent pinpointed his affiliation with the NRA as the main factor keeping him out specifically because Rolling Stone co-founder and publisher Jann Wenner, described by the guitarist as the boss hog at the Rock Hall, hates the gun-rights advocacy group.

I couldnt be more proud of that, cause the NRA is the ultimate family, grassroots organization that fights for the right to defend ourselves. What kind of numb nut would be against that? queried Nugent. And so Im on the board of directors of the NRA, Jan Wenner hates the Second Amendment, so thats the only reason Im not in the Rock and Roll of Fame. And until they get their heads out of their ass, Im more than happy to do what I do and do it with all the vim and vigor that I do it every night.

That being said, Nugent responded with an enthusiastic hell yes when asked whether hed accept induction, and added that hes watched a lot of the induction ceremonies and found them so moving. Were he to eventually make the cut, Nugent said hed lead the crowd in a prayer for their rock n roll forebears a moment he sees as reflecting the Halls true purpose of paying tribute to the genres true greats.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is paying tribute and homage to geniuses who gave us the ultimate soundtrack for our American Dream, said Nugent. Im all in, man, Im genuinely moved, and Im glad there is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Until then, however, he added that hes happy to remain a member of the We the People Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a club hes entered by virtue of more than five decades and six thousand shows piled up over a long career. Hey, write this down, he quipped. My name is Ted Nugent. I am the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Eat me!

Nugent is currently on the road for his Rockin America Again tour. You can get complete tour dates and ticket information at his official site.

‘Racist crimes’ Nigel Farage claims political correctness allows grooming gangs to thrive – Express.co.uk

Posted: at 6:21 pm

Speaking on his LBC show, Farage insisted that more had to be done to put a stop to grooming gangs.

The remarks came after a court hearing earlier this week which saw 17 men and one woman convicted of rape, sexual assault, human trafficking and inciting prostitution as the city of Newcastle.

The crimes add to the growing list of UK towns blighted by the evil grooming gangs.

Shadow women and equalities secretary Sarah Champion claimed Asian grooming gangs were allowed to thrive because people are more afraid to be called a racist than they are afraid to be wrong about calling out child abuse.

PHLBC

The Labour MP for Rotherham said it was time to acknowledge that the majority of perpetrators have been British-Pakistani in the towns where such grooming cases have occurred.

Farage said: These are racist crimes and it's been hidden for far too long in too many northern cities and a lot of elected political figures throughout the north of England in my view bear a very heavy responsibility.

But there's been a change of tone and today Sarah Champion has completely changed course.

Im pleased to say she makes it clear that predominantly these crimes and I'm quoting her not me come from men who are part of the Pakistani community and it's a pattern that we see over and over again.

These are racist crimes and it's been hidden for far too long

Nigel Farage

The LBC host reiterated that he had been calling for a sensible conversation about the issue for years.

Farage finished: Goodness me it's taken us years to get to the point where we can even have an intelligent conversation about it.

Heartbreaking details of how the 17 men routinely abused white girls emerged from the court case.

Those prosecuted were from the Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish communities and mainly British-born.

Most lived in the West End of Newcastle.

Today former Crown Prosecution Service chief Lord Macdonald of River Glaven said cases of Asian grooming gangs targeting white girls had not been looked into as they should have been.

He said: I think that's no longer the case and I think the fact that these sorts of cases are now being brought successfully demonstrates that those sorts of so-called taboos no longer exist - but I don't think any of us can pretend that in the past these cases have been examined as rigorously as they might have been.

The Fairfax County School Board has voted to change the name of historic J.E.B. Stuart High School. According to news reports, the vote was 7 to 2 with 2 abstentions. They succumbed to the winds of political correctness. But this is political correctness run amok.

The taxpaying voters of Fairfax County need to take a hard look at what kind of irresponsible do-gooders liberals they have been electing to the School Board.

The controversy over the name change has not been worth all the time, energy and money being expended. The school was named after J.E.B. Stuart in 1959 to commemorate his ties to nearby Munsons Hill in 1861. It was a simple nod to local Civil War history. The school has been around 58 years. It has produced such noteworthy pro football players as Mike Bragg, Roger Stillwell, and Charlie Garner. The schools football stadium is named after the late Jerry Fauls, the legendary coach there from 1959 to 1979. He must be turning over in his grave. It sets a bad precedent to change the name of a school. It destroys the culture of the local community.

Let me remind everyone of what happened in the City of Alexandria back in 2004. At that time the president of the NAACP chapter in Alexandria demanded the School Board change the name of T.C. Williams High School. The school opened in 1965 and it was named in honor of Mr. T.C. Williams, who served as Alexandrias superintendent of schools from the 1930s up through the early 1960s. This was during the time of state-mandated segregation. Because of this, some misguided individuals over the years have suggested it is inappropriate to have the school named after him. But the complaint by the NAACP president fell on deaf ears. People have an emotional attachment to the name of their school. Our mayor at that time was Bill Euille (who happens to be black). He graduated from T.C. Williams High School in the class of 1968 (the schools second graduating class). Mayor Euille did not want to change the name. Like most alumni and longtime residents of Alexandria, he had an emotional attachment to the name of T.C. Williams High. The school became even more famous because of the 2000 Disney hit movie, Remember the Titans. No serious discussion was ever held to consider changing the name. Obviously, the authorities in the City of Alexandria's have more common sense than the Fairfax County School Board

Orphan Black is ending, but how far has human cloning come? – The Verge

Posted: at 6:20 pm

Orphan Black, the Canadian science fiction show that revolves around human cloning, will end on Saturday, August 12th after five darkly funny, gory seasons. The show began with a former British street urchin, Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany), watching as someone with her exact facial features commits suicide by jumping in front of a train. From there, the show unravels to be about large biotech corporations, conspiracies, and above all, morally questionable science.

Spoilers ahead for all of Orphan Black except the finale.

Science classes teach students early on that human experimentation is ethically wrong if the subjects dont know theyre being experimented on, or exactly what the experiment entails. Orphan Black explores this taboo by giving us villains that love experimenting on unwilling or unwitting people. From installing a secret camera in a womans artificial eye to harvesting the eggs of an eight-year-old girl, the corporate forces on the show are unapologetically sinister and indifferent to basic scientific ethics. The show is both a celebration of science and a reminder that its frightening when used to the wrong ends.

maybe Orphan Black can inspire the science thats to come

With the end of Orphan Black imminent, were looking at the real world for our fix of real science straddling the world of science fiction. Since the show began airing in 2013, have we gotten any closer to the future of extreme body modifications and human cloning that Orphan Black has so often teased? I spoke with Paul Knoepfler, a biology professor at UC Davis, and John Quackenbush, professor of biostatistics and computational biology at Harvard and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, to see how far away we are from some of the shows most outrageous inventions.

GROWING A TAIL

Early in the shows run, Olivier, a body-modification fan whos one of the antagonists overseeing a human cloning project, shows off the pink tail hes grown. Sarah is understandably disgusted. But such body modifications could exist, as humans are already naturally born with primordial tails, Knoepfler says. All youd need to do is stop the pre-programmed cell death of those tail cells, maybe by giving a pregnant woman a drug, Knoepfler says. The most challenging part of getting a functional tail would be finding a way to extend the length of the spine, according to Quackenbush. And even if a tail was successfully constructed, there are more unknowns, says Knoepfler, like what part of the brain would control it, or whether the tail would trip you as youre walking. Granted, that isnt a problem if its this short:

I SPY WITH MY BIONIC EYE

At the end of season 2, Rachel Duncan, a clone whos grown up under the care of large corporations, is stabbed in the eye. She receives an artificial replacement, and after many months, she regains complete sight. Ultimately, though, she decides to tear out her eye, because she learns the man responsible for commissioning it also had a camera installed inside it to spy on her. This leads to a truly creepy cinematic moment where Rachel sneaks into the mans office, looks down at his mysterious tablet, and discovers a live stream of what her eye sees: a screen within a screen within a screen, ad infinitum. I watched you touch yourself in the shower where you think its clean, the man says gleefully in a following episode.

Putting the shows sinister ingenuity aside for a moment, Rachels bionic eye spy-cam and all may be possible, Knoepfler and Quackenbush say. Bionic eyes already exist, but the main challenge is connecting an artificial eye with the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain. That nerve probably would have been damaged during Rachels initial injury. Creating a bionic eye poses an additional challenge, as the eye must mimic nature and be able to send and receive the right kinds of signals to be read by the brain, says Quackenbush. But if the eye and optic nerve could be reconnected, the eye could potentially be powered by a battery, and making a camera small enough to fit inside the eye is completely possible with todays current technology. Then Wi-Fi and Bluetooth would give the eye live-streaming capabilities.

POISONOUS BOT IMPLANT

In the penultimate season, Sarah discovers she has a bot implanted inside her cheek, which acts as a tracking device and contains a poison her enemies can release into her bloodstream. Micro-tracking implantations already exist in our world: just take the microchips that are often implanted in dogs and cats, Quackenbush says. The tracking device part of the bot also seems plausible: there are devices today that can draw on nearby Bluetooth devices as a network, Quackenbush says. And even storing a toxin inside the bot isnt just science fiction, given the steady infusion of insulin or other drugs that devices already offer humans today. The problem, however, is the bots power supply: it would have to be significant enough to potentially sustain the bot throughout a human lifetime and no such batteries exist yet.

AND OF COURSE, CLONING

We already have clones; theyre identical twins, says Quackenbush. But there are other, less random methods for achieving human cloning. One way is how Dolly the sheep was cloned, by taking the part of the egg cell that contains genetic information and replacing it with a donors cell nucleus. The egg is then fertilized and grown into a clone. But using this method, called somatic cell nuclear transfer, on humans could be extremely unsafe, because the clone could have serious developmental disorders, Knoepfler says.

Quackenbush imagines another method to approach human cloning: reversing cell aging. Basically, adult stem cells could be reverted into their original state as stem cells, when they possessed the genetic potential to divide and become the heart, liver, skin, and other organs. An embryo, in many ways, is the ultimate stem cell, says Quackenbush. But this method hasnt been tried before.

No federal laws in the US ban human cloning

Orphan Blacks science consultant, Cosima Herter, believes that cloning humans is illegal in North America. Were not allowed to hear about it, because were not allowed to do it, she wrote in a blog post for the show in 2013. This isnt quite right no federal laws, at least in the US, ban human cloning. The US Food and Drug Administration is the regulator that matters for research into cloning humans.
