Better connections with North America’s travel trade expected as … – eTurboNews

Posted: at 5:33 am

The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) has been accepted as a member of the United States Tour Operator Association, USTOA.

Through this membership, the Seychelles tourism marketing body seeks to establish strategic relationships with key organizations within the travel trade community in North America.

USTOA was created in 1972 by a small group of California tour operators, with the aim of having a unified voice to protect the traveling public, as well as to represent the interests of tour operators.

Today, the New York based organization brings together some of the top names in travel and tourism. It also accounts for a large share of the tour operator market in North America.

The membership will hence allow the Seychelles Tourism Board to connect with these industry leaders that represent top destinations and suppliers from around the world.

The STB Director for Africa & the Americas David Germain who spearheaded the initiative to have the membership application processed and approved, said benefits to Seychelles include participation in all events organized by USTOA throughout the year.

Through publications, meetings, conferences, discussions and exhibitions, the STB will be able to stay up to date on the latest travel industry research, gain market intelligence and travel trends in North America, said Mr. Germain.

One of USTOAs main event is the Annual Conference & Marketplace which brings together leading North American travel companies with tourism suppliers and destinations from around the globe in an intimate and exclusive setting. The event is set for November 27 to December 1, 2017.

The Seychelles Tourism Board is intensifying its effort in North America as demand for long-haul travel and flights to the Seychelles continue to increase. The aim is to position the island destination as a destination of choice among the North American travelers.

To date, the National Bureau of Statistics has recorded a 67 percent increase in visitors arrival from America to Seychelles, compared to the same period last year.

The Seychelles Tourism Board is also a member of the Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa, APTA, which also facilitates partnerships and education of members throughout North America.

Talking Skull Returns To Disney World’s Pirates Of The Caribbean Ride – Bleeding Cool News

Posted: at 5:32 am

Home > Film > Talking Skull Returns To Disney Worlds Pirates Of The Caribbean Ride

Back in 2006, when Disney was refurbishing the famous Pirates of the Caribbean ride, one notable item was taken away. A talking skull which taunted visitors with dead men tell no tales as they braved going near Davy Jones locker is now back at the beginning of the ride. The skull says a few words and a flash of light (meant to be lightning) can be seen. The ride now offers ride photos, so this is where your photo will be taken on the ride. So if you time it right, you, too can have an excellent ride photo!

Back in 2009, WDWmagic.com had a bit of a discussion on why the Talking Skull had disappeared in the first place. While there was no definitive answer, consensus seemed to be that the Talking Skull was often broken anyway, and perhaps no longer work so well in the context of what was going on at that point in the ride, at that time. Disney Avenue has a spectacular account of the development and history of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which first opened in 1967.

The talking skull in Pirates of the Caribbean has warned guests that Dead Men tell no tales millions of times over the years. The poor mayor has been dunked countless times (and still hasnt drowned). The auctioneer has been trying to unload the same plump young wench on the same six pirates hundreds of times a day, 365 days a year with no takers. And those same six pirates have been wanting the red ed without success for almost 50 years.

There have been numerous other changes to the ride over the years, including the loss of the talking parrot.

Thanks to WDW News Today for the video!

Jeffrey Beers International Restores the Dune Restaurant in the Bahamas – Hospitality Design (blog)

Posted: at 5:32 am

Will Speros June 21, 2017

Jeffrey Beers International (JBI) has unveiled its restoration of the iconic Dune restaurant at the One & Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas. The venue suffered considerable damage in October 2016 following a hurricane.

Spanning 226 seats across its dining and lounge areas, the interior has maintained its resort-style ambiance but has been brightened with a new material palette that includes dove gray Anigre wood millwork, warm gray upholstery accented in coral fabrics and abstract, geometric patterns, and porcelain floor tiles finished in cerused wood.

The resorts Hartford Wing is reimagined with contemporary dcor included in expansive rooms and suites crafted by JBI. The new design draws upon the natural colors of the Bahamas with cerulean blue and cool turquoise offsetting a palette of warm ivory and cream that mirror the sea and sky.

Bahamas Resort Helps Restore Coral to Reefs Destroyed By Hurricane Matthew – Caribbean360.com (subscription)

Posted: at 5:32 am

PARADISE ISLAND,Bahamas,Wednesday June 21, 2017 Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in TheBahamashas completed a successful harvesting and out planting of corals to three coral reefs off New Providence that were destroyed last year by Hurricane Matthew.

This ongoing project an initiative of non profit organization Atlantis Blue Project Foundation(ABPF) helps rehabilitate damaged coral reefs by growing small coral fragments to repopulate reefs that have been eliminated through disease, hurricanes, or bleaching.

Since its inception more than 10 years ago, the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation has generated over $5 million through funding from Atlantis guests participation in the resorts marine adventures and is dedicated to saving sea species and their extraordinary habitats throughout The Bahamas and surrounding Caribbean seas.

With the help of Atlantis Marine team members, The Bahamas National Trust, The Nature Conservancy, BREEF,Stuart Covesand Dr.Craig Dahlgren, Director of the Perry Institute for Marine Science/coral reef scientist, the team harvested 150 pieces of finger coral from one of Atlantis two on-property nurseries and 100 pieces of staghorn coral from nurseries established by The Nature Conservancy and managed byStuart Coves.

The corals, as two-inch fragments or cuttings from naturally occurring corals and placed on lines or tree structures at the nurseries, were monitored as they grew at rates faster than they normally do on reefs. Once the corals were deemed healthy and large enough, they were placed back on the coral reefs in the ocean through multiple dives to sites that have been degraded by storm damage and human impacts.

The ongoing coral nursery project at Atlantis presents an opportunity to educate people about the importance of coral reefs in TheBahamas, saidDebra Erickson, Executive Director of the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation.

We are very proud of our established nurseries and our on-going efforts to help repopulate areas that have lost their coral.

TheBahamashas more coral reef area than any other country in the region and one of the largest coral reefs in the world.

USGC offshore producers brace for Tropical Storm Cindy – Platts

Posted: at 5:32 am

As the US Gulf Coast oil and gas industry prepares for the arrival of Tropical Storm Cindy late Wednesday, about 17.24% of current Gulf of Mexico oil production has been shut, according to the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement's Hurricane Response Team. That amounts to about 301,618 b/d of lost production.

For natural gas, about 0.32% of production has been shut, representing lost volume of 10.089 MMcf/d, BSEE said.

The shut-ins can usually be accomplished remotely, with personnel able to close subsurface safety valves from off-site. Once the storm has subsided, inspections will take place and undamaged facilities will be brought back online, the BSEE said.

The loss of offshore domestic crude production had little effect on the assessed value of US Gulf Coast crude differentials Wednesday.

Article continues below...

Only Southern Green Canyon, a medium sour produced off the coast of Texas, showed any major movement, rising 35 cents/b. The grade received price support from its ability to be delivered into Texas -- relatively out of the path of the storm -- versus Louisiana, where other Gulf of Mexico grades are delivered. Should Louisiana refineries come offline due to damage from the storm, Texas refineries could pick up the slack in the market.

In contrast, all 17 dynamically positioned rigs in the US Gulf of Mexico have remained on location, with personnel remaining on board. However, the BSEE noted these rigs can move relatively quickly should the need arise.

Anadarko, which operates the Lucius and Heidelberg spar facilities, has evacuated nonessential personnel and said facilities remain operational.

"We are continuing to monitor the weather system as it moves through the Gulf and are prepared to shut in our operated facilities if necessary to ensure the safety of our personnel and to protect the environment," the company said in a statement.

Shell, which operates the Mars B/Olympus, Cardamom and Stones developments, said personnel will remain offshore. The company has, however, suspended all offshore flights from heliports located in central Louisiana and some well operations also have been suspended.

"Production is currently unaffected," Shell spokesman Curtis Smith said in a statement. He noted that all of the company's deepwater production hubs are designed to withstand hurricane-force conditions.

Operator BP, which produces from the Atlantis, Mad Dog, Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms, evacuated nonessential personnel earlier in the week and has also taken steps to secure its offshore production facilities.

"At this time, there have been no impacts to production," BP spokesperson Jason Ryan said in a statement. "BP's severe weather assessment team is in constant communication with our offshore teams."

BHP Billiton, which operates the offshore Shenzi and Neptune fields, said it does not expect regional storm conditions to warrant an evacuation of personnel based the company's operational response protocol for weather events.

"As far as the Invictus deepwater drillship, nonessential operations have been suspended, and nonessential personnel demobilized as a precautionary measure," the company said in a statement.

Hess, which operates the Stampede and Tubular Bells developments, is monitoring the storm closely with employees remaining in place for the moment.

"We stand ready to activate our response plans for severe weather conditions as needed," Hess spokeswoman Hillary Harmon said. "There has been no impact on production at this point."

Operations at Chevron's Jack/St. Malo development as well as the operator's other Gulf of Mexico production interests has not been affected by the approaching weather system.

"We will continue to closely monitor the system," Chevron spokeswoman Brenda Cosola said.

The most recent National Hurricane Center forecast calls for Cindy to approach the southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas coasts late Wednesday before moving inland into southeast Texas on Thursday.
