Canon launches new Oceania Grants Program | Voxy.co.nz – Voxy

Posted: at 7:51 am

On World Environment Day and ahead of International Day of Cooperatives this Saturday, Canon Oceania is excited to announce that applications for their revised 2017 Canon Grants Program - Inspiring Tomorrow, are now open!

Inspiring Tomorrow, an extension of Canons Environmental Grants Program, is encouraging all educational, community and environmental groups who are passionate about making a difference to both societal and environmental issues in their communities to apply.

Canon New Zealand are offering three grants of $5,000 worth of Canon equipment, ranging from digital

compact and DSLR cameras, to binoculars, printers and multi-function devices.

Winners will be selected based on the environmental, educational and social merits of their submission, the positive impact their project will have on the community and the importance of Canon products in ensuring its success.

Kim Conner, CEO of Canon New Zealand says that we are thrilled to announce the launch of our new grants program - Inspiring Tomorrow, bringing to life our corporate philosophy of Kyosei, living and working together for the common good.

"This year we are excited to be able to broaden the Grants program and offer a helping hand in addressing the social issues within our community. Inspiring Tomorrow aims to recognise the organisations that are making a positive impact in our own backyard and help support the growth of their projects through our technology. We encourage anyone who is part of a social, educational or environmental project to apply," says Conner.

Last years winners, the Motutapu Restoration Trust, Otanewainuku Kiwi Trust and Hobsonville Primary School were awarded for the uniqueness of their projects and positive impact they are having on the environment and their community.

Liz Brooks, Manager at the Motutapu Restoration Trust, says that their volunteers have been using their new Canon products almost daily. Of the Canon product received, their Canon 10x30IS binoculars have been used for identifying both birds and weeds. The EOS 750D with EF-S 18-55mm lens has been vital in bird monitoring and recording release events; and the Canon LV-WX320 Projector has been a key resource for training volunteers, and other conservation groups in their seminar room.

"All in all, the Motutapu Restoration Trust could not have fitted out its seminar room, office and volunteers with such state of the art equipment without Canons help. This win has allowed us to do more, and be more effective, in our mission of saving Aucklands ancient island sanctuary," says Brooks.

This year the grants will be awarded under the following categories:

New Zealand:

- 1 x Environmental Grant - $5,000 - 1 x Education/School Grant - $5,000 - 1 x Community/Social Grant - $5,000

Applications close on Friday 4th August 2017 with the winners announced by Thursday 31st August 2017.

To apply for a grant, entrants should fill in the application form here and entrants can post an image that showcases their initiative with the hashtags #InspiringTomorrow, #CanonGrantsProgram and @canon.nz.

Home Associations & Organizations Travel agents in Hong-Kong gain insights to better sell Seychelles as a… – eTurboNews

Seychelles, being an island destination boasting powder-white beaches, lush tropical vegetation, and calm turquoise waters, attracts a host of vacationers every year.

Visitors come in search of the perfect beach wedding, exotic honeymoon, a great diving experience or simply to get in touch with nature.

The Seychelles Tourism Board Office in China organized a workshop for travel agents in Hong Kong to provide them with a better understanding of what the destination has to offer.

The talks held at the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong on 16th May, 2017, focused on the aspects of wedding, honeymoon, diving and eco-tourism.

Around 16 travel agents attended the workshop and most of them were from smaller niche companies that sell both air-tickets and packages.

The Director of the Seychelles Tourism Board Office in China, Mr. Jean-Luc Lai-lam said they all showed a positive interest in the destination and the different products on offer to visitors.

Working closer with smaller agencies, helps us to diversify our portfolio and reach out to specific groups within the market, said Lai-lam.

The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong was established in 1978 to protect the interests of travel agents. The council is tasked with regulating outbound and inbound travel agents, under the Travel Agents Ordinance enacted in 1985 that makes it mandatory for all outbound travel agents to be licensed.

Pirates of the Caribbean Gets Charmingly Recapped by Emojis – Gizmodo

As someone who doesnt really use emoji (and laments that upcoming animated film with every bone in my body), Ive got to admit Ive fallen in love with Disneys As Told By Emoji series. A couple of weeks ago, they took on Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, theyre here to remind us why Pirates of the Caribbean used to be so good... until Jack Sparrow became, well, Jack Sparrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of those movies that I can put on anytime and have an amazing time watching it. Sure, its got its lackluster moments, but it was a fun adventure film that didnt take itself too seriously. At least, not until the sequels. If youre curious what a four-minute recap of Pirates of the Caribbean looks like, with an adorable dog emoji snuck in there, I definitely recommend checking this one out.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Crosses $500 Million at Global Box Office – Variety

Posted: at 7:50 am

Strong international numbers, especially in China, have powered Disneys Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales past the $500 million at the global box office.

The fifth installment in the franchise opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office during what was the slowest Memorial Day Weekend in nearly two decades. In two weekends domestically, the movie has earned $114.6 million. That leaves the remaining $386.6 million to overseas earnings to reach its current worldwide sum, $501.2 million.

In China alone Pirates 5 has made $142.6 million. Russia is the movies second highest grossing overseas territory with $30.5 million. Korea is in third with $17.9 million, while the U.K. and France round out the top five with $16.7 million and $15.2 million respectively.

The movies massive earnings have pushed Disney past $2 billion in international grosses for the year.

Johnny Depp returns to play Jack Sparrow, the role that earned him an Oscar nomination with the franchises first installment. Joachim Rnning and Espen Sandberg co-directed the movie that also stars Javier Bardem. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley both returned to the franchise after skipping out on the fourth installment.

This weekend at the domestic box office Pirates 5 landed in third with $21.6 million, behind newcomers Wonder Woman and Captain Underpants.

People are going to pay $880 for this ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Galaxy S8, sadly – BGR

Posted: at 7:50 am

No, its not the pink version that was leaked earlier this week. Its a Galaxy S8 version made for pirates.

The Galaxy S8 is a tremendous success for Samsung, selling even better than the previous model. But that doesnt mean that Samsung doesnt have more marketing tricks to sell even more units this year.

A Galaxy S8 Pirates of the Caribbean Special Edition is such a trick. This isnt the first time Samsung partnered with movie studios to launch special edition handsets, so its definitely not surprising to see Samsung target one of the blockbuster movies of the year for the handset. But unfortunately for you, you cant buy it just yet.

As GizmoChina explains, the special edition model is currently available on JD.com for the time being, priced at around $880.

Unlike regular models, the Pirates Edition ships in a special treasure chest box. The package also includes a protective case and a special holder. Furthermore, when you turn the phone on, youll see a Dead Men Tell No Tales theme on it. Unfortunately, the phone itself isnt adorned with any Pirates markings. On the other hand, given how easily the Galaxy S8s glass can break, youd be better off using the special case that comes with the handset.

Other than the Pirates-inspired visuals, there arent any changes. The phone packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which makes it a regular Galaxy S8. Its unclear whether the bigger Galaxy S8+ will also receive a similar treatment.

The United States will pause for a moment on August 21, head out its door, and look to the sky.

A total solar eclipse is set to become one of the summers most memorable moments, and many will ask, Where were you?

Well, Royal Caribbean has announced that it will offer a special set of events to coincide with the eclipse on a journey dubbed theTotal Eclipse Cruise.

Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, explained via press release, Were set to take vacationers on an unprecedented experience that is nearly a century in the making,

NASArecently explained that the upcoming Great American Eclipse will start in Oregon and make its way, like a beam of darkness, across the continental United States en route to South Carolina.

Bayley continues, A total solar eclipse hasnt crossed the entire U.S. since 1918, and with many of our ships sailing the Caribbean along the projected path, the stars aligned. Oasis of the Seas will have the vantage point of the century and an unforgettable celebration out at sea that adventurers wont want to miss.

Starting at $818 per person, you can enjoy anitinerarythat promises a galactically awesome cruise adventure.

Things kick off in Orlando at Port Canaveral, which means you and the family can enjoy places like the Kennedy Space Center beforehand.

Day 2 of your trip on the Caribbean is when the sun goes hiding for a few moments; you will have an amazing vantage aboard the Oasis of the Seas. Besides seeing a once-in-a-lifetime event, you also get to enjoy calls at Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Nassau, Bahamas.

The ship itself will resemble a modern eclipse party, with fare such as Cosmic Cosmos, Planetary Punch and Moon Pies adorning tables. Royal Caribbean also promises eclipse-themed parties, trivia, lectures, and activities for children and the adults.

The real draw here, obviously, is the eclipse.Space.comquotes Rick Fienberg, spokesperson for the American Astronomical Society (AAS): It brings people to tears; It makes people's jaw drop.

As for what you can expect to see, Space.com explains: During a total solar eclipse, the disk of the moon blocks out the last sliver of light from the sun, and the sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, becomes visible. The corona is far from an indistinct haze; skywatchers report seeing great jets and ribbons of light, twisting and curling out into the sky.

For those who are landlocked, theLos Angeles Timeshad somesuggestionson where to enjoy this rare treat.

Still, nothing likely beats watching the sun take a momentary exit on the open seas. Royal Caribbean is now taking orders on a unique opportunity you dont want to miss.

Heat waves predicted for Caribbean Islands – St. Lucia Times Online News (press release)

Posted: at 7:49 am

June 4th, 2017 11 comments

Heat waves will be a feature of the 2017 rainy season in Caribbean islands, especially those in the South.

Thats the word from Doctor Simon Mason of the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH).

Aheat waveis defined as a prolonged period of excessively hot weather, which may be accompanied by high humidity.

The projection is for as much as one third of the total days for the rainy season will be warmer than normal so the advice is for people to be ready for the heat, Mason was quoted by CMC as saying.

The CIMH official said that with the elderly being particular vulnerable, steps must be taken in advance to assist them to cope with the effects.

He pointed out that in the United States of America heatwaves kill more people than tornadoes while in 2003 heatwaves killed 30,000 in France.

The 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season began on Thursday, but the CIMH is predicting less rain and hotter days for islands of the South Caribbean.

Nevertheless, the organization is not projecting drought conditions for the region because the overall outlook is for above average rain for the entire rainy or hurricane season which officially ends on November 30.
