Anonymous wants humanity to go into outer space and 'explore other worlds'

Posted: March 19, 2015 at 2:44 am

Hacktivist collective Anonymous is mostly famous for launching attacks on the Church of Scientology, ISIS, world governments, child pornography websites and, er, Kanye West. But its latest mission is to unite humanity and get us working together to go into space and colonize new worlds. No, seriously.

I suspect someone at Anonymous may have enjoyed Christopher Nolans Interstellar a little too much.

A new video sets out the goal, and its impressively lofty. Heres the idea:

Greetings citizens of the world,

There's been a lot in the news lately; From threats of war, to future space endeavors. Two very different ends of the spectrum with vastly different consequences for humanity. While politicians bicker over power plays by opposing nations here on Earth, we continue to face many threats from beyond this world.

The unfortunate truth is that while our generation may survive the next 100 years... it's only a matter of time till humanity as a whole faces catastrophe on a global scale. We occupy one tiny world, around a single star out of billions, in a single galaxy out of trillions in the observable universe. That alone shows how fragile our species really is.

Thus we come to a realization, and an inevitability; Earth cannot remain our only home forever. Some of the voyagers we set forth to the farthest reaches of the galaxy will lose contact with us, and we'll never hear from them again in our life time. Nevertheless, our legacy will live on through them as they colonize new worlds across the stars...

While we can ensure the survival of humanity through migration & colonization, we can also help ensure the survival of Earth through unification. As we unite to explore other worlds, we'll in turn find ourselves securing our own. Earth will always be our homeworld, and as such it will always hold a special place in our hearts. While we don't know what the future might hold, we do know one thing for certain; it will be much brighter with humanity united.

If we continue on our current course, our mutual destruction is ensured; so some may ask why we continue to have wars and fight amongst ourselves? Humans are influenced by their cultures and many other factors growing up. From what their parents believed, to what school and religion teaches them. With that in mind, it's no wonder with over 270 religions, 196 countries, and with modern society being derived from thousands of different cultures... that people tend to bump heads on worldly views.

Could your email address keep job recruiters from reading your online resume?

New Rochelle, NY, March 18, 2015--Job recruiters may review hundreds of online resumes for a position, often screening them quickly and discarding those that are not appropriate. An applicant's email address can greatly impact first impressions and affect one's chances of getting hired according to a new study published in Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, a peer-reviewed journal from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers . The article is available free on the Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking website until April 18, 2015.

Marlies van Toorenburg, Janneke Oostrom, and Thomas Pollet, VU University, Amsterdam, designed a study to determine whether the use of an informal rather than a more formal email address by a job applicant when sending an online resume affects how hirable the person would seem to a professional recruiter. An informal email address includes slang, cute, or made-up names instead of the applicant's real name.

In the article "What a Difference Your Email Makes: Effects of Informal Email Addresses in Online Rsum Screening," the authors describe how the formal or informal nature of an applicant's email address impacts a recruiter's hirability perceptions. The researchers also compare the importance of the email address to spelling errors and the typeface used in the email in passing judgment on an online resume.

"We all have unconscious biases, and first impressions, as we know, are often difficult to change," says Editor-in-Chief Brenda K. Wiederhold, PhD, MBA, BCB, BCN, Interactive Media Institute, San Diego, California and Virtual Reality Medical Institute, Brussels, Belgium. "This study may assist recruiters in becoming more conscious of their biases, as well as aiding job applicants in understanding the importance of their electronic identities."

New Rochelle, NY, March 18, 2015-Who intentionally seeks to kill a policeman and why? In 2014 the rate of policemen purposely killed in the line of duty in the U.S. was nearly 1.5 times greater than in 2013. These incidents and what may have motivated the killers is the focus of an in-depth article in the peer-reviewed journal Violence and Gender, from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers. The article is available free on the Violence and Gender website until April 18, 2015.

In the article "Men Who Kill Policemen," Michael Stone, MD, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons (New York, NY) and Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (Goshen, NY), reviews details of the intentional killings of police in the line of duty in 2013-2014. All the killers were male, and most used a gun. Dr. Stone describes whether the perpetrators were killed or committed suicide during the incidents, or were actively involved in a crime at the time of the killing. He examines a variety of possible motivations for intentional killing of a policeman, including belonging to a "cop-hating" group, mental illness, or intoxication. He also discusses societal factors that may lead to higher or lower rates of policemen killing in different social or minority groups.

"This unique study by Dr. Michael Stone, an Associate Editor of Violence and Gender, could not be more timely and relevant," says Editor-in-Chief Mary Ellen O'Toole, PhD, Director, Forensic Science Program, George Mason University; Forensic Behavioral Consultant; and Senior FBI Profiler/Criminal Investigative Analyst (ret.).

"Dr. Stone looked at all the police officers intentionally killed in the line of duty in the United States between 2013 and 2014," Dr. O'Toole continues. "He found that all of the 66 cop-killers were males, and their choice of weapon was a firearm. Dr. Stone identifies factors that led up to and contributed to these murders, and based on his experience and expertise as a world-renowned psychiatrist he offers the opinion that only a minority of these men likely suffered from a mental illness at the time of these murders. In the study of violence it is quite rare that research is so quickly available on contemporary issues, and this study exemplifies Dr. Stone's and the Journal's commitment to bring headline topics to our readers in scholarly and insightful ways."

Study: Wealth and power key to men's genetic success

Posted: at 2:44 am

For decades, evolutionists have believed that when it comes to human reproduction, it's a case of survival of the fittest. However a new study into human genetics actually shows that wealth and power play an even stronger role.

AUT Professor Steve Pointing says in the last few thousand years, brawn's role in deciding which men pass down their genes is becoming less important.

"If a particular organism has favourable traits for environment, it will pass on more of its genes and have more offspring than if you have less favourable traits," he explained on Firstline this morning.

"But there's growing evidence now that in humans, the reverse is true we're actually dictating evolution because the wealth and power aspect of our society is actually driving evolution of our species."

The research, conducted by Arizona State University, looked at the Y chromosome of 500 men worldwide. They found that between 4000 and 8000 years ago, there was a bottleneck in genetic diversity for males.

At the same time, female genetic diversity was increasing rapidly implying at the time, only a few men were mating with many women.

"The smoking gun for that is the change from a nomadic, hunter-gatherer society to a more agrarian society, where we know wealth and power become concentrated in fewer individuals."

The findings are concerning for the future of the human race, because any loss in genetic diversity is "bad news".

"It means that as a species we become more susceptible to catastrophic diseases and events," says Prof Pointing.

Study of Britain produces first fine-scale genetic map of a nation

Posted: at 2:44 am

Britain may be famous for preserving its royal DNA, but a genetic analysis of the nation is providing new insights into the "story of the masses," according to scientists.

Researchers announced Wednesday that they had created the world's first fine-scale genetic map of any country, an achievement that allowed them to settle a few long-running debates about the history and bloodlines of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The group's most surprising finding was its failure to identify a single "Celtic" genetic group. In fact, the researchers said that the Celtic regions of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Cornwall were among the most genetically different.

Likewise, they found no clear genetic evidence of the Danish Viking occupation and control of a large part of England during the 9th century, suggesting a "relatively limited input of DNA."

The research, which was published Wednesday in the journal Nature, was conducted by an international team and led by scientists from the University of Oxford, University College London and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute in Australia.

ThePeople of the British Isles study was based on sophisticated statistical analysis of DNA samples from 2,030 rural British residents. Each of the whiteDNA donors had all four of their grandparents born within 48 miles of one another, essentially allowingresearchers to sample the DNA of the grandparents in specific regions.

The DNA samples were studied for differences at roughly half a million positions along the genome, and were then grouped by similarity. Researchers plotted each DNA donor on a map, positioning the donorsat the geographic midpoint of their grandparents' birthplaces.

"What was striking was the pattern of variation we saw and the way it aligned with geography," said coauthor Peter Donnelly, director of the Wellcome Trust Center for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford.

Subtle yet identifiable genetic patterns could be found separated by current-day county lines, Donnelly said. Such was the case with Cornwall and Devon, in England's southwest.

In order to provide context, researchers alsoanalyzed DNA samples from 6,209 volunteers from 10 other European nations. That data allowed researchers to determine the genetic contributions of people from other parts of Europe.
