Psoriasis is a disease that concerns many people of the world.

Usually we can define Psoriasis as an hereditary illness; in fact it is possible to find different people suffering from this pathology within the same family. Very often in the same family you can find many people suffering from different pathologies as follows: adult diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematic, vitiligo and psoriasis, too. The reason stands in the Polygenic nature of these diseases. In other words, the trend to fall ill is written, not on a single gene, but on more genes.

The DNA (genetic code) reveals the predisposition of suffering from Psoriasis, even from the birth.

The characteristic Skin lesions will appear only when a person is in a stress condition. This means that there are too many toxins in the body.

A little example...

In a car we have an instrument cluster, full of lights. They can blink to indicate that something doesn't work. In the "human machine" these lightsare represented by different symptoms. The Psoriasis lesions are warning lights that come out to warn us that there are too many toxins in our body.

But where do they come from ?

Latin Americans inherited diabetes gene risk from Neanderthals

Posted: at 10:43 pm

Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Neanderthals may have passed down a gene variant to Latin Americans, putting them at a high risk of developing type-2 diabetes.

The largest genome-wide association study involving more than 8,000 Mexicans and other Latin Americans studied many genes in individuals and tried to find links to certain traits.

The high risk gene called SLC16A11 has been found in around half of those with recent Native American ancestry, including Latin Americans. The variant was also found in 20 percent of East Asians, but was rare in Europe and Africa.

"To date, genetic studies have largely used samples from people of European or Asian ancestry, which makes it possible to miss culprit genes that are altered at different frequencies in other populations," said co-author Jose Florez, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts.

According to Florez, by expanding the scope of research to look at Latin American samples they have found the strongest genetic risk factor discovered to date, which accounts for 20 percent of that population's increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes.

Earlier research has shown that Neanderthals interbred with modern humans nearly 60,000 to 70,000 years ago, and researchers believe this is how SLC16A11 was introduced.

Altering the levels of SLC16A11 protein can change the amount of a fat that has been involved in the risk of diabetes. The study, published in the journal Nature, suggests that the SLC16A11 could be involved in the transport of an unknown metabolite the affects the fat level in cells.

Jeff Dunham Bringing His Not-So-PC Humor To Hartford

Posted: at 10:43 pm

Ventriloquism supposedly went out with the Nehru jacket and pay phones. But apparently that's not so. Jeff Dunham is the most popular stand-up comic in North America, according to Pollstar. com

"I'm thrilled that people continue to come out and see me," Dunham said. "I don't take it for granted. I work hard to make sure they come back."

According to Forbes.com, Dunham is the third highest paid comedian in the country behind Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock. However, the New York comedy icons make their fortune primarily courtesy of television syndication.

Much of the filthy lucre in the Dallas native's bank accounts has been made courtesy of touring.

Dunham, 51, has single-handedly revived ventriloquism, which appeared to be a dying art a decade ago.

'America's Got Talent' alum Terry Fator, who signed a $100 million deal with the Mirage in Las Vegas, tips his cap to Dunham. It's difficult to imagine Fator, a singing ventriloquist, scoring such an outlandish contract if it weren't for Dunham.

"I have to give Jeff Dunham a lot of credit," Fator said. "He really helped pave the way and bring ventriloquism back. It's an art form. His success is amazing compared to what other comics accomplish."

What other humorist sells out arenas? Dunham packs the airplane hangars thanks to his collection of colorful dummies and a welcomed politically incorrect sense of humor.

"I can get away with things that other comics can't because of the puppets," Dunham said. "It's kind of like working with cartoon characters. With the puppets, I can push it. That's where the fun comes in for me. Some people might think I cross a line but that's apparently a small percentage of people. Most of the people who come out love it."

That's evident. Dunham clearly knows what he's doing. He's not afraid to offend. His fearlessness led to the invention of Achmed the Dead Terrorist, a skeleton puppet with a bad attitude.

Anchorman 2, a review by Stewart Perrin

BURGUNDY is back in the long-awaited sequel to the cult comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

Will Ferrell returns to play the role of the self obsessed, politically incorrect title character, along with the rest of his news team, ladies' man Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sports reporter Champ Kind (David Koechner) and of course the witless Brick Tamland (Steve Carell).

Promotion

The movie begins with Ron and his now wife Christina Corningstone as co-anchors of the daytime national news, but all turns awry when Christina is given a promotion.

Split from his wife and at a low ebb, again, Burgundy is approached to join the country's first 24-hour news channel, but his one proviso is that he reunites his news team.

Using his new position he redefines news broadcasting, Ron Burgundy style.

There are some laugh out loud moments in the film such as when Ron meets his new girlfriend's family, Brick thinking he has lost his legs, and a funny slow motion scene whilst driving a campervan.

There are some witty one liners that are hysterical, but also cringy if you know of the implications such as references to OJ Simpson and BP oil.

The film is fully loaded with cameo appearances by other Hollywood stars, but possibly too many as they drag a certain scene out longer than is funny.

These magic moments – fondly looking back to 2013

Posted: at 10:42 pm

A protest against censorship that attracted global attention. A song cycle staged in a park district swimming pool. A Rahm Emanuel snit that became fodder for TV's Jon Stewart. Those were just some of the indelible moments in the arts in 2013, which Tribune critics and reporters observed and chronicled. Among the highlights and lowlights:

Protesters of 'Persepolis'-gate

March 15, Lane Tech College Prep High School, Chicago

Massive school closings, epic teacher layoffs. Chicago Public Schools officials had plenty to answer for in 2013. So much that their decision in the spring to yank Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel/memoir "Persepolis" out of schools and libraries because of a complaint (about a single image of torture) became something of a cultural blip. But what a blip: The banning led students at Lane Tech to rally against censorship in the rain outside their school. Which led to the news spreading internationally, the irony of the banned selection particularly poignant. (The 13-year-old book tells the story of Satrapi's childhood in culturally repressive Iran.) Which gave 451 Degrees, an obscure student book club at Lane Tech that reads only banned books, a popularity it couldn't have achieved on its own. Six months later long after the outcry led to CPS telling its principals to reinstate "Persepolis" 451 Degrees, founded by 16-year-old senior Levi Todd, was given the Illinois Library Association's prestigious Intellectual Freedom Award. Christopher Borrelli

Taken aback by savage beasts

March 16, South by Southwest Music Conference, Austin, Texas

The sign of a great band: One that makes you take two steps back when it hits the first chord. It's like a force field pushing out from the stage, at once thrilling and threatening. That's what it felt like to see and hear the British quartet Savages for the first time. The fury kept escalating until singer Jehnny Beth, bassist Ayse Hassan, drummer Fay Milton and guitarist Gemma Thompson ripped into the venomous "Husbands" and stalked off. Greg Kot

The glow of movies, music and beauty

May 21, Cannes Film Festival, France

At the close of "The Great Beauty," a modern-day "La Dolce Vita" from Italian fabulist Paolo Sorrentino, the end credits roll as a single, sustained shot of Rome's Tiber River is shown from the perspective of an unseen boat, gliding along as the sun casts a pearly glow. At the film's Cannes Film Festival premiere back in May, hundreds of people stayed through to the end, to bathe in Sorrentino's farewell shot and to listen to every last note of music accompanying the images. The music: Vladimir Martynov's "The Beatitudes," recorded by the Kronos Quartet. Sitting with that Cannes crowd, full of Chicagoans, I was reminded of the easily forgotten truth: Movies are communal, democratic, made for and by humans. My wife and I ended up using that music in our wedding. ("The Great Beauty," one of the 2013's best, opens Jan. 3 at the Music Box Theatre.) Michael Phillips
