Noted freedom fighter Narottam Behera passes away

Posted: November 7, 2013 at 5:43 am

Noted freedom fighter Narottam Behera passed away after a protracted illness.

The 94-year-old freedom fighter, who was ailing for a long time, breathed his last yesterday evening.

He is survived by a son and three daughters, family sources said.

Behera participated in the 1942 Quit India movement and worked with noted freedom fighters like Malati Chaudhury, Nabakrushna Chaudhury, Harekrushna Mahatab, Rama Devi and Saraswati Devi.

Behera also walked with Mahatma Gandhi in 1934 during the Padayatra of Father of the Nation in the Kendrapara district and its nearby areas.

In 2006, Behera had published his autobiography "Mo Jiban Kichhi Surti, Kichhi Anubhuti" (Memories and experiences of my life).

The autobiographical account had thrown light on some unknown facts about the freedom movement, land right movement and social reform works during the British Raj.

The noted freedom fighter vividly described Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Kendrapada in 1934.

"I was a 14-year-old child. But I walked ten kilometers in 1934 to witness Gandhiji at Kendrapada where he addressed a public meeting," Behera said in his autobiography.

A pall of gloom descended in Behera's native Dashipur village following his death.

Freedom High School Receives Classroom Makeover

Posted: at 5:43 am

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 06, 2013

The Collision Repair Education Foundation (CREF) honored Freedom High School of Freedom, Wisconsin last night at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas with a $10,000 classroom makeover grant furnished by a donation from CCC Information Services. The Freedom High School Automotive Repair Program is a nationally recognized program, educating and preparing students for a career in collision repair for more than 40 years. CCC Information Services is a leading provider of software and services to the automotive claims and collision repair industries and a longtime supporter of CREF.

The tools, technology and information needed to complete quality repairs have changed a lot since I was a student in this very program more than 10 years ago, said Jay Abitz, Instructor, Freedom High School Automotive Repair Program. CCC has been kind enough to donate estimating software to our program for many years, but the classroom makeover grant was something I never expected. It has allowed us to buy educational DVDs, equipment and most importantly a tablet device, which means we can work with the latest technology and keep our students on the front edge of innovation. We appreciate what CREF and CCC has done to support our program.

CCC is one of only five industry organizations that have donated over $1 million to the Collision Repair Education Foundation in the charitable organizations lifetime, said Brandon Eckenrode, Director of Development, CREF. We would like to thank CCC for helping to provide Freedom High School with the classroom tools and equipment needed to provide an updated technical education to their collision students.

CCC is proud to support collision repair education programs like the one Mr. Abitz and Freedom High School have established, said Joseph Allen, General Manager of CCCs Automotive Services Group. Its critical that schools keep pace with technology advances so that their students are best equipped to enter the industry. The Collision Repair Education Foundations Classroom Makeover program is a great way for CCC to help schools stay ahead of the information and technology they need to prepare the next generation of collision repair professionals.

To learn more about the great work taking place through the Freedom High School Automotive Repair Program, read an interview with instructor Jay Abitz: http://ccc.cccis.com/pages/news_detail/352.php?article_id=201. To learn more about CCC, please visit: http://www.ccc-one.com.

About Freedom High School Automotive Repair Program The Freedom High School Automotive (FHSA) program came to life in 1972 under the guidance of Bob Abitz, who built the program over an outstanding 35 year career. Over the years this program has grown into one of the most renowned and accredited programs in the state and even the nation. FHSA is probably best known for its success through the SkillsUSA (formerly VICA) collision repair contest with 22 state champions (state record) and multiple finishes inside the top 10 at nationals. One of the things that make the FHSA program special is the focus on collision repair. Since 1972 FHSA has taught collision repair techniques such as panel replacement, metal working, welding, plastic repair, cosmetic repair, and refinishing. Students also experience restoration and custom work emphasizing skills like metal and composite fabrication, rust repair, and custom painting and refinishing. It is the goal of the automotive program to expose students to a variety of hands on experiences to prepare them for a career in the automotive industry or personal vehicle maintenance and repair. Students use a variety of current industry standard repair techniques, tools, and materials to complete repairs on vehicles.

About Collision Repair Education Foundation The ultimate goal of the Collision Repair Education Foundation is to create a future in which every entry-level technician hired will have graduated with the necessary skills and understanding of new technology to be well-trained, productive, and efficient employees from day one on the job. We are committed to helping the industry recruit and educate students of the highest caliber, and to increasing graduation rates in training programs. We are committed to making sure that students in every market have access to the very best collision repair education. And, most of all, we are committed to the future of our industry as a highly-skilled, rewarding career choice that provides jobs that wont be outsourced, enhances the economic wellbeing of local communities, and saves lives. Freedom Angel watching over veterans

Posted: at 5:43 am

ROXBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A seven foot angel statue now stands near Roxbury Town Hall. It's a "freedom angel," keeping watch over veterans.

"I invented the Freedom Angel as a new national symbol," said Sterett-Gittings Kelsey, Freedom Angel Founder. "And the reason behind that is not because we need another new monument, we don't. But what we need is a way to reach the rest of America."

The creator hopes to reach Americans by one day making angel pins and other memorabilia. The proceeds will benefit veterans organizations.

If you're a hospital and you want to do research on PTSD or whatever, we can fund that," Kelsey said. "If Wounded Warriors say we need more help, we can do that."

The Freedom Angel Foundation is new, unveiling a 3,000 lb. statue Wednesday.

"She's beautiful, just gorgeous," said visitor Linda Chapman. "For people who have family that are in the service. It's just so so important that we have something that we can look up."

The angel will be in the town of Roxbury for six months, the plan after that is to take her touring across the country.

"She will be the most recognized symbol in the country and everybody will know what she stands for," said Kelsey.

The spirit of freedom for the men and women who fight to protect it.

Freedom exactly where it expected to be

Posted: at 5:43 am

FREEDOM A year ago when Freedom was marching through the playoffs it surprised many being a No. 8 seed and not having a track record of winning in the postseason.

This year, the Irish is seeded No. 2 and is just where everybody expected it to be Level 3.

No surprises this year but the Irish do want to at least match its accomplishment last season when it reached Level 4. To do that, Freedom, which has outscored its first two playoff opponents by a combined score of 63-8, has to win at No. 1 Roncalli in the GameTime Game of the Week.

"We're playing good right now, everything's clicking, we're peaking at the right time, senior defensive end/tight end Mason Sturm said. Our coach always says just a steady incline all season and we're peaking perfect.

Like last season, Freedom (8-3) is finding success in the playoffs with its running game. Last year, Nathan Peters did it on his own, leading the state with 2,249 rushing yards.

This season, Peters battled an ankle injury and has had help. Peters has 1,185 yards and 20 TDs, while Isaac Gonnering has added 511 yards and 11 TDs.

We have two backs, theyre battling between each other for carries, coach Clint Kriewaldt said. Each one wants more of the carries. Its fun to see these guys duke it out and fight for the carries. Theyve both been running pretty hard for us.

And they will need to Friday, as Freedom will be on the road for the second week in a row after winning last week at Campbellsport 30-8. Notwithstanding, Freedom almost embraces road games.

"If you look at all our losses the last two years, every one is on this field here, Kriewaldt said. I don't know what it is, but for whatever reason it seems we come together more on that bus ride there.

I think we get the kids away from, whether it be their girlfriends, just get them out of their house and get focused on football right away. So going on the road isn't a big deal. It should be a pretty fun atmosphere to play in Friday night."
