Preity Zinta returns with Saif Ali Khan

Posted: July 2, 2013 at 12:46 pm

Mumbai, July 2 -- The last few years haven't been particularly kind towards Preity Zinta's Bollywood career. Earlier this year, her latest release, Ishkq in Paris, sank without a trace. Before that, she only appeared in songs in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna (2009). Her last big roles were in 2008, in the Salman Khan-starrer dud, Heroes, and Deepa Mehta's Heaven on Earth.

Now, the news is that Preity might be making a comeback opposite Saif Ali Khan. In the past, they have worked together in in Kya Kehna! (2000), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Salaam Namaste (2005). This time, they are back in Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK's (who directed Go Goa Gone) next, a yet-untitled rom-com. The film is produced by Saif's Illuminati Films and also stars Ileana D'Cruz.

"Preity plays a part opposite Saif. Even though they haven't worked together for a long time, she shares a good equation with him. So when Raj-DK spoke to Saif about Preity, he was more than happy to have her on board. He is excited about working with her again after eight years," says an industry insider.

When contacted, Saif - who is in Los Angeles, USA, to shoot for the film - confirms the news, saying, "Yes, it's true that Preity has kindly agreed to do a special appearance for our film." Apparently, Preity has already left for the US to complete her portions in the film.

"Preity agreed to do Raj-DK's film purely on merit and, of course, her association with Saif," says the insider, adding, "She is also supposed to act in Bhaiyyaji Superhitt with Sunny Deol. That apart, she is no hurry to sign a lot of films."

The worlds first Firefox OS phone, the ZTE Open, will launch tomorrow, and be available for less than a hundred dollars. The announcement came in the form of a tweet from Spanish wireless carrier Telefonica, who will be the carrying the phone.

Firefox OS smartphones are said to be the first devices that are completely powered by web technologies. The web-based operating system means the ZTE Open will be able to deliver new features, unmatched by any other phone.

While discussing the launch of the Open, Mozillas Chief Operating Officer Jay Sullivan commented on their new platform saying, The launch of Firefox OS marks an incredibly exciting time for the Web. It powers the first smartphones built entirely on Web technologies and will stimulate an inspiring new wave of innovation for the Web. We are proud to deliver an experience for first time smartphone users that will delight them and really put the power of the Web in peoples hands.

Googles database system for TV white space was approved for operation by the FCCs Office of Engineering and Technology over the weekend, potentially bringing cost-effective broadband service to rural areas in the US.

In total, the FCC authorized the use of five different spectrum blocks for TV, from 54-60MHz, which include a number of channels between channel2 and 51.

Google concluded trials for its database system on April seventeenth, making them the third database system to be approved for the new spectrum. Eventually, using a process called dynamic spectrum sharing, Google plans to free up more of the spectrum to allow additional users to share and enjoy the airwaves.

Huntsville Stars Cancel Controversial Gun Certificate Raffle Promotion on ‘Second Amendment Night’

Posted: at 12:43 pm

It appears the Hunstville Stars organization gave into the pressure.

The Brewers minor league affiliate has canceled its Second Amendment Night promotion, according to AL.com. The team had planned to raffle off gift certificates for guns, but apparently that idea didnt sit well with Minor League Baseball.

Its in the best interest of baseball, general manager Buck Rogers told AL.com. He said the team was pressured into canceling the promo.

Were part of a larger organization and we have to uphold the game of baseball. It comes before everything we do, Rogers said. Some teams do crazy promotions and fund-raising and we do that too. Were still going to continue to have promotions and things to bring family entertainment to Huntsville.

The Second Amendment Night was slated to feature a raffle from Larrys Pistol and Pawn, a local gun shop. Winners of the raffle would have received gift certificates at the park for Larrys Pistol and Pawn, pending background checks.

Rogers maintained that the raffle was a great idea.

Huntsville Stars Cancel Gun Raffle at Second Amendment Night

Posted: at 12:43 pm

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) The Huntsville Stars have decided to cancel the raffle for a chance to win one of three guns at their upcoming Second Amendment Night promotion at the July 3rd game.

Billed as a chance to educate their fans about the Second Amendment, the Stars Second Amendment Night went viral as several sports blogs picked up the story.

Fan reaction to the development Monday evening at the game was mixed.

Decatur resident Jackie Handley said he brought his family out to the game Monday after finding out about the original promotion.

There is a place for guns and there is a place for good family fun entertainment, so we are happy they decided to not do that, Handley said.

But Mark Woods who is a member of the National Rifle Association said he was looking forward to the evening and the chance to win a new gun.

its disappointing but I cant say I am surprised given everything that has been going on lately they have a public relations situation to deal with, Woods told WHNT News 19.

In a press release, the Stars spokeswoman, Nicole Collins, said:

In the best interest of baseball, the Huntsville Stars will not include the gift certificates from Larrys Pistol & Pawn in thein-game raffle on Wednesday, July 3rd. We appreciate the support and understanding of Stars fans and inviteeverybody out for our 2nd Amendment Night/Independence Night celebration game with post-game fireworks show onWednesday night. Gates will open early at 5:00 pm, game time is scheduled for 6:43 pm.

Double-A Huntsville Stars cancel controversial gun raffle at ‘Second Amendment Night’

Posted: at 12:43 pm

The Huntsville Stars, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, had the most-talked-about promo in minor league baseball for a few days. They were going to raffle off guns as part of their "Second Amendment Night" on Wednesday.

Like anything in this country having to do with guns, public opinion on the promo was divided. Guns weren't actually to be given away at the ballpark, just gift certificates that winners could exchange for their prize after passing a background check. That was still enough, however, for many people to object.

On Monday, the Stars said there were canceling the gun raffle, news first reported by Nick Lough of WAAF-TV in Huntsville. Lough notes that The Stars consulted with the Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball before canceling the gun raffle.

Stars general manager Buck Rogers then told The Huntsville Times:

"It's in the best interest of baseball. We're part of a larger organization and we have to uphold the game of baseball. It comes before everything we do. Some teams do crazy promotions and fund-raising and we do that too. We're still going to continue to have promotions and things to bring family entertainment to Huntsville."

As you might imagine, the Stars backing down didn't go over with people who were in favor of the gun raffle:

When asked about caving to pressure, Rogers told Lough:

"If you bought a ticket for a Stars game thinking this was going to be part of a raffle, I'll buy your ticket back. I'll cheerfully refund your money if that's why you were coming out. But, it's Second Amendment night and we're still going to continue with plans for the educational portion."

The Stars will still be giving way copies of the Declaration of Independence and talking about the U.S. Constitution at the game. Last week when discussing the promo idea with The Times, Rogers invoked current events:

"One of the hot button issues right now is the Second Amendment that everybody's running from. We're not touching base on First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, abortion or any of that type of stuff. A lot of stuff makes people uncomfortable.

The Huntsville Stars canceled Wednesdays nights promotion after getting counsel from the Southern League and Minor League Baseball headquarters, a team spokesperson told Fox News.

Minor League Baseball advised us that it would be best if we didnt hold the promotion, Nicole Collins said. Were just trying to protect the game.

The promotion had been sponsored by Larrys Pistol and Pawn. The winners of the raffle would have received certificates they could later redeem for a gun provided they met the legal criteria.

Collins said local opinion on Second Amendment Night was divided.

We didnt expect this national attention, she said.

General Manager Buck Rogers told The Huntsville Times the original intent of the promotion was to celebrate American patriotism.

One of the hot button issues right now is the Second Amendment that everybodys running from, he told the newspaper last Tuesday. Were not touching base on First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, abortion or any of that type of stuff. A lot of stuff makes people uncomfortable.Maybe its time Americans basically said, Hey, whats going on? Whats wrong with this? Day in and day out, peoples rights are being taken away. The government is spying. Weve got phone companies selling our information the whole nine yards.
