Obama meets Thein Sein in Myanmar Burma
US President Barack Obama says he is visiting Myanmar (Burma) to #39;extend the hand of friendship #39; to a nation moving from persecution to peace. Obama touched down on Monday morning, becoming the first US president to visit the Asian nation. Tens of thousands of people in the long-repressed country packed the streets to see his motorcade speed through the city. Many of them waved American flags and took photos with their smartphones. After meeting President Thein Sein, who has orchestrated much of his country #39;s transition to democracy, Obama said the reforms #39;in Myanmar #39; could unleash #39;the incredible potential of this beautiful country #39;. Obama #39;s language was significant. The United States has officially referred to the country as Burma, despite the ruling junta summarily changing the name years ago to Myanmar. But US officials - and now Obama - have been less rigid about using the old name. Obama will also meet democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi in the home where she spent years under house arrest, a gated compound with a lawn ringed by roses. Obama will close with a speech at the University of Yangon (Rangoon), praising the country #39;s progress toward democracy. #39;Instead of being repressed, the right of people to assemble together must now be fully respected, #39; the president will say, according to speech excerpts released by the White House. #39;Instead of being stifled, the veil of media censorship must continue to be lifted. Ivan the Terrible (Russian: #1048; #1074; #1072; #1085; #1043; #1088; #1086; #1079; #1085; #1099; #1081;, Ivan Grozniy) is a two-part historical epic film about Ivan IV of Russia made by Russian director Sergei Eisenstein. Part 1 was released in 1944 but Part 2 was not released until 1958 due to political censorship. The films were originally planned as part of a trilogy, but Eisenstein died before filming of the third part could be finished. During World War II, with the German army approaching Moscow, Eisenstein was one of many Moscow-based filmmakers who were evacuated to Almaty, in the Kazakh SSR. There, Eisenstein first considered the idea of making a film about Tsar Ivan IV, aka Ivan the Terrible, whom Joseph Stalin admired, seeing him as the same kind of brilliant, decisive, successful leader that Stalin aspired to be. The first film, Ivan The Terrible, Part I, was filmed between 1942 and 1944, and released at the end of that year.
