Ancient Aliens Season 3 Ep: 4 "Aliens and Temples of Gold"
"Aliens and Temples of Gold" - August 18, 2011 This episode contends that aliens came to Earth to mine gold. Examined are the legends of cities of gold such as El Dorado and Paititi; Lake Puray in Peru where UFO sightings may be linked to gold beneath the lake; the gold-creating device called the Philosopher #39;s Stone; the Hall of Records beneath the Great Sphinx of Giza, (suggested to be a repository of ancient knowledge); a Medieval church in the French village of Rennes-le-Chteau that may hold the secrets of alchemy; and Scotland #39;s Rosslyn Chapel where a helix-shaped pillar, (suggested to represent DNA), may be the hiding place of the Holy Grail.From:KingdomofTruthTVViews:0 0ratingsTime:43:58More inScience Technology

HTC Droid DNA vs Samsung Galaxy S III
We #39;ve poked and prodded it in unboxings and hands-ons, compared it to the LG Optimus G and Galaxy Note II, and we #39;ve given it the full review treatment. Since the Droid DNA #39;s unveiling in New York City last week, we #39;ve been all over every inch of the new 1080p Android superphone from HTC and Verizon. From benchmarks to speed tests to camera samples taken out on the cold streets of Boston, it #39;s all been done. So you can forgive Michael Fisher for being so tired he looks like a corpse in this latest video. So tired he now apparently refers to himself in the third person. But today, on the eve of the Droid DNA #39;s transfer to Pocketnow #39;s Pennsylvania offices to spend some time under the pixel-perfect eyeball of Brandon Miniman, there #39;s one more comparison to be done. A showdown between the new 5-inch HTC wonder and the established veteran of the Android space, between soft-touch paint and hyperglaze coating, between quad-core and dual-core. Today, the HTC Droid DNA faces our Verizon Wireless-branded Samsung Galaxy S III for 7+ minutes of hot head-to-head action. We #39;d tell you more, but this is no time for spoilers. Hit "play" up above and get your pencils, styli, or S Pens ready to jot down some benchmark results. It #39;s the final countdown. Hit it. DNA technology links Indiana prisoner to 1981 Byron Township cold-case rape

Posted: at 8:45 pm

BYRON TOWNSHIP, MI -- DNA technology has helped link a 54-year-old Indiana prisoner to a 1981 rape in Byron Township, police say.

Kent County prosecutors plan to pursue charges against Joseph Blackmer, who has been in prison since the early 1980s for a similar crime in Elkhart, Indiana.

Police identified Blackmer as the assailant in the 1981 rape after a Kent County sheriff's detective began reviewing several cold-case sexual assaults to determine if evidence was available to submit for lab DNA testing.

The detective decided the Byron Township case -- a rape at a home in the 7100 block of Houndstooth Street SW -- offered a good opportunity.

In that case, a 23-year-old woman was raped after she answered the door on Dec. 17, 1981 to a man who had knocked. The man, estimated to be 18 or 19, asked for directions.

Moments later, the man pushed his way inside and put a gun to the victim's head. He ordered her into a bedroom and sexually assaulted her.

Police gathered evidence from the crime, but ended up closing the case in March 1982 for lack of leads.

The recent decision to submit DNA from the rape to the state police crime lab ended up generating a match to Blackmer. State police obtained a DNA profile in the labl and submitted it to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

Blackmer was caught the same day as a June 2, 1982 sexual assault in Indiana and ended up pleading guilty.

Court records show his earliest possible release date is in June 2023.

DNA evidence questioned in 1979 Monaca slaying

Posted: at 8:45 pm

The same evidence that warmed up a decades-old cold case is now slowing it down.

A trial was scheduled to start Monday in the Beaver County Courthouse for Gregory Scott Hopkins, 66, the former Bridgewater councilman charged in the 1979 homicide of a Monaca woman after a DNA test, not available at the time of the death, was used to tie him to the scene.

But it will likely be postponed, due to a dispute over the use of a report completed by forensic pathologist Cyril H. Wecht.

Mr. Hopkins, who operated a construction and snow removal business headquartered in Beaver County, has been lodged without bond in the Beaver County Jail since January, when he was charged with homicide in the death of Catherine Janet Walsh, 23.

Walsh, who was divorced and living alone at the time, was found strangled in the bedroom of her first-floor duplex. She was discovered facedown in her bed, wearing a nightgown, with her arms tied behind her back by a white bathrobe rope.

The Beaver County district attorney office's case hinges on the DNA evidence found in seminal fluid left on the back of Walsh's nightgown, on the rope tied around her hands and the bed sheet that covered her body.

That DNA matches a sample taken from Mr. Hopkins, but his attorney, James Ross of Ambridge, has argued in court that Mr. Hopkins' DNA should be there, because he and Walsh were having an affair that ended the summer before her death Sept. 1, 1979.

Mr. Hopkins, through his attorney, has entered a plea of not guilty. He told police he was with friends preparing for a pig roast at the time of Walsh's death.

According to court documents, Dr. Wecht's report states that the fact that the DNA was found only on the bed sheet, the back of Walsh's nightgown and on the rope around her wrists makes it "extremely unlikely" that the DNA was left during earlier sexual encounters with Walsh.

Dr. Wecht also argues in his report that the location of the DNA places Mr. Hopkins on the bed on top of Walsh at or around the time of her death, and he gives his opinion that she died due to "strangulation during sexual activity."

Review: HTC Droid DNA is easily the best phone on Verizon Wireless

Posted: at 8:45 pm

My first smartphone was the HTC G1. About a year later I moved on to the HTC Nexus One. If you had asked me the day after I opened my Nexus One which phone to buy, I would have pointed to anything made by HTC. After the Nexus, I moved to Verizon Wireless and got an HTC Thunderbolt. It was at this point (around Spring 2011) that I realized something was terribly wrong, and I no longer recommended HTC products. I didnt like their software, I didnt like their hardware, and as their market share dwindles in the Android ecosystem it is clear that I was not the only one who thought so.

On paper the HTC Droid DNA looked like an impressive phone, but I remained unconvinced until I opened the box and looked for myself.

Some might say that HTC is a little late to the 5-inch phone game, which is funny when you think about the ruckus they caused with the clown-sized 4.3-inch Evo. What the Evo lacked had nothing to do with the ability to hold the phone, rather it was missing screen quality. The resolution was far too low to enjoy the larger screen which made everything about the phone look bad. The 5-inch Droid DNAs 19201080 screen delivers quite the opposite experience, but more on that later.

Considering the designs that have sported the Droid moniker in the past, youll have a hard time finding anything but curves on the DNA. The glass on the front of the phone tapers smoothly to the sides and top, while the whole back arches to meet your hand. Despite being a larger phone, the sides are thin enough to allow a firm grip and still be able to reach the entire screen with your thumb. In fact, the phone is exactly as wide as the Samsung Galaxy S3, though noticeably taller. If youve got small hands, this phone will require both of them.

A staple in an HTC handset is the textured backing. Sometimes it is a soft touch material, sometimes it is a rough rubbery feel, and sometimes it is a special oxidized coating. The end result is the same: the back of the phone has grip. The matte finish makes it easy to hold the phone, and all it asks for in return is any oils you may have on your fingers. Be prepared to spend time wiping down the back of the phone any time the finger smudges bother you.

The Droid DNA is not only comfortable to hold, but feels plenty durable. This feels like a well-built phone.

Much as they did back with the release of the Nexus One, HTC has filled the DNA with hardware you wont see in other phones for a little while. A 5-inch 1080p Gorilla Glass 2 coated screen sits on top of a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM. Basically, you would be hard-pressed to find a more powerful smartphone right now. Add in the separate 2.5W amp for audio, an inductive charger, a partially water resistant design, and a 2050mAh battery to power it all, youll have a pretty good idea of what is going on under the hood.

HTCs camera is just as good as it has been for the last few models. The backlit sensor and ImageSense chip that HTC has been using for a little while now deliver great photos without a lot of work on behalf of the user. As always, you need to turn off the widescreen setting on the phone in order to actually take 8MP photos, but once you do the shots you get are really great. The Droid DNA is the first phone where HTC has made changes to the typical front-facing camera (FFC) as well. The 2.1MP FFC is set in the bezel to take in a wider frame, which makes for a much better video chat experience when it comes to how you hold the phone when chatting.

Ask Dr. H: Is DNA passed from a blood donor

Posted: at 8:45 pm

Whole blood contains not only red blood cells, but also other components like serum, white blood cells, platelets, and antibodies. It is the white blood cell component of whole blood that contains the nuclei and therein one's genetic material in the form of DNA.

However, even if one received a whole-blood transfusion rather than the red blood cells alone, the DNA profile of a donor would not be detected in the peripheral blood of a recipient.

In one study, a woman in a trauma situation was transfused with 14 units of blood (four of those units being whole blood) without showing any detectable level of foreign DNA. In another study, a man in a trauma situation received 13 units of blood (four of those units being whole blood) without showing any detectable level of the donor's DNA. That's a lot of blood they received, considering that the average woman has 8 to 10 pints/units of whole blood and the average man has 10 to 12 pints/units of blood.

Question:I've been taking Nexium for several years to treat Barrett's esophagus. I have heard that long-term use of acid-blocking drugs like Nexium can increase the risk of pneumonia. Why would it cause that? How much of a risk is it for me?

Answer:The timing of your question is superb, because a recent retrospective study conducted by researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Medicine poked huge holes in the conclusion of previous studies linking chronic use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium and Prilosec to a roughly 1 percent per-year increased risk of developing pneumonia.

The widely held belief has been that suppressing stomach acid can allow the growth of ingested bacteria to increase the risk of pneumonia. The belief is so strong that the FDA has issued warnings over it.

HTC Droid DNA review: A superphone with flaws

Posted: at 8:45 pm

HTC is marketing its new Droid DNA as the "most advanced smartphone yet" -- and on paper, the device certainly looks that way.

The Droid DNA, launching this Wednesday, November 21 on Verizon Wireless for $200 with a new two-year contract, has all the specs of a high-end superphone. The Android 4.1-based device has the looks, too, with a sleek and distinctive design and eye-catching 1080p display.

Appearances aren't everything, though, and while the Droid DNA has some impressive elements, it also has some troubling drawbacks.

I've spent the past several days using the Droid DNA in place of my own personal device to get a feel for how it fares in the real world. Here's a look at where the phone shines -- and where it falls short.

Body and display

HTC's Droid DNA falls into an interesting spot in the smartphone size spectrum: With a 5-in. display, the device is quite large for a normal phone, but significantly smaller than a plus-sized phone- tablet hybrid like Samsung's Galaxy Note II.

The Droid DNA measures 2.8 x 5.6 in. Compared to the Note II -- which, with its 5.5-in. screen, measures 3.2 x 5.9 in. -- the Droid DNA is practically a baby. But compared to a more typical phone like the Droid Razr Maxx HD, which measures 2.7 x 5.2 in., the DNA is decidedly big, especially when it comes to length.

The phone feels good in the hand, however, and is right on the upper limit of being comfortably pocketable. The device is pleasantly thin -- 0.38 in. officially, though thinner at the edges thanks to a tapered back design.

HTC Droid DNA

The Droid DNA's display is a gorgeous 1920 x 1080 Super LCD3 with 440 pixels per inch (ppi), making it the highest resolution screen on any smartphone today. The display looks fantastic, with crisp, sharp details and brilliant colors that delight the eye. Even in sunlight, the Gorilla Glass 2 screen remains perfectly viewable. When it comes to the smartphone display department, it's easy to give the Droid DNA top honors.
