Drug-Sniffing Dogs Could Warrant Home Searches
"You can already hear all the likely jokes at the Supreme Court, about the justices going to the dogs. But the issue being argued Wednesday is deadly serious: whether police can take a trained drug-detection dog up to a house to smell for drugs inside, and if the dog alerts, use that to justify a search of the home. In the case before the court, the four-legged cop was named Franky, and as a result of his nose, his human police partner charged Joelis Jardines with trafficking in more than 25 pounds of marijuana. In the fall of 2006, police in Florida got an anonymous crime-stoppers tip that there was illegal drug activity at the Jardines home. A month later, police officers took Franky to the house and walked him up to the front porch. When the dog alerted for drugs, the police got a warrant, found marijuana growing inside and arrested Jardines. The Florida Supreme Court ruled that the dog sniff was an illegal search and thus could not justify a warrant. As the presidential election nears in the U.S., the National Rifle Association is putting forth efforts against President Barack Obamas reelection, noting that he may endanger Americans ability for self-defense. NRA supporter Stephen Platzer responds to these recent actions.

In the article, Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of the NRAs Institute for Legislative Action, explains that the non-profit organization has taken a strong stance against Obama, due to so-called changes in his approach on gun control. Cox states, Some gun owners took Obama at his word four years ago, when he said he wouldn't take their guns away. So, after years of paying lip service to the Second Amendment, President Obama finally let it slipthat he supports the most draconian form of gun control a gun ban.

Following a similar sentiment, Stephen Platzer encourages all Americans to take a look at the politics and information behind each heavily-debated subject, not just those pertaining to gun ownership rights. In support of the recent actions of the National Rifle Association, Stephen Platzer concludes, The Second Amendment is considered a social issue, but it is at the very roots of our countrys history and foundation of a civilized free society. Laws are necessary as we are a nation of laws; if we start letting politicians make drastic changes to our personal freedoms then our country will drastically change. It is the responsibility of every citizen to be informed because we are the ones who essentially hold the power to direct which direction the country is headed. Voting is extremely important and I hope Americans understand their duty to protect the U.S. Constitution.
