Freedom Defeat Grizzlies to Even Divisional Series

Posted: at 2:15 pm

September 6, 2012 - Frontier League (FL) Gateway Grizzlies SAUGET, IL - Freedom starting pitcher Brad Allen shutout the Gateway Grizzlies over eight innings and Florence held on for a 4-1 win Thursday night at GCS Ballpark in game two of the Frontier League Divisional Series.

The win tied the series at one with game three scheduled for Saturday night in Florence, KY at the Home of the Freedom. Right-hander Chris Enourato will get the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 5:05 CT.

Allen (1-0) allowed only two hits while striking out a career-high nine batters. A Richie Jimenez Jr. double in the third and an infield single by John Shelby in the fifth inning were the only Grizzlies hits against Allen.

Grizzlies starter Alex Kaminsky (0-1) matched Allen pitch for pitch until allowing a Peter Fatse RBI double in the seventh inning for the game's first run.

Kaminsky surrendered only one run on two hits in six and a third innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Florence added two runs in the eighth on a Grizzlies error and a David Harris RBI single. The Freedom got one more run on two hits and a Pierre LePage hit by pitch RBI in the ninth to take a 4-0 lead.

Jon Myers hit a solo home run in the ninth inning off of Freedom closer Jorge Marban to give the Grizzlies their only run in the game.

Freedom High School football team looks to bounce back against Central Catholic

Posted: at 2:15 pm

Brian Uliana had arguably the best seat in the house for the Freedom High School football team's season opener last Friday at East Stroudsburg South.

The senior quarterback insists, however, the Patriots team he knows has yet to step on the field.

"Friday night taught us a lot of things," said Uliana of the Patriots' 16-14 loss to the Cavaliers. "One thing we learned is games aren't won just because you wear Freedom on your chest. That game was a big hit for us."

The Patriots have a chance to redeem themselves tonight when they host Central Catholic to open the Lehigh Valley Conference portion of their schedule. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.

"This team is hungry to get back on the field (tonight)," Uliana said. "People are going to have their opinions, but we know we're not the same team that took the field against East Stroudsburg (South). We have a lot to prove."

Freedom was in a similar situation a year ago entering Week 2. The difference being the Patriots were 1-0 heading into a meeting with Central Catholic, which was the defending PIAA Class AAA state champion at the time.

Uliana and the Pates stunned the Vikings 34-24, effectively putting the rest of the LVC on notice they were not a team to be taken lightly.

Tonight, the Patriots will be fighting to regain the respect they earned by going 8-3 in 2011 and battling to avoid going 0-2 and falling behind in the race for a possible District 2-4-11 sub-regional playoff berth.

"It's a lot like last year," Freedom coach Jason Roeder said. "We're in Week 2 and we have something to prove. And like last year, we're up against a real good Central Catholic team. It's a lot easier coming off of a win, but that's not the case right now."

Central Catholic may have lost to graduation the bulk of the playmakers that led it to back-to-back district titles, but the Vikings proved they're still dangerous with a 35-7 mercy rule win over Allen in their opener.

Gold, Copper Explorer Liberty Star Updates Scout Drilling Program at Big Chunk, Alaska

Posted: at 2:14 pm

TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. (Liberty Star or the Company)(LBSR: OTCQB) is pleased to announce that scout drilling on Target 1 (of 12), Hole #1 reached and exceeded its planned depth of 1650 feet (August 28th, NR 137). The drill hole bottomed at 1696 feet and was capped so that it could undergo further drilling next spring. 166 core boxes containing 5 core samples each (10 feet) were collected and samples from the split core are being prepared for shipment to the MEG sample prep lab near Reno, NV, and then on to the ALS Group certified assay facility in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Readings from an XRF analyzer and high definition photographs as well as other technical measurement data gatherers are being transmitted to the Companys Tucson headquarters where they will be analyzed.

Further drilling this season was ended due to oncoming winter conditions including very high winds (gusting to 131 MPH) and heavy rain combined with low to zero visibility occurring in both the Lake Iliamna region and Port Alsworth, making fixed wing aircraft or helicopter transportation impossible. Scout drilling will begin again on additional targets in May 2013.

Comments James A. Briscoe, Liberty Stars CEO and Chief Geologist: This initial drilling program fulfilled several of our goals: First, to establish a camp we can continue to work from for many years, second, to re-establish our prominence in the local community, third, to fulfill Alaska State Mining Claim assessment work requirements, and lastly, to start scout drilling that I believe will lead to the eventual discovery of a porphyry copper and gold mineral body.

James A. Briscoe James A. Briscoe, Professional Geologist, AZ CA CEO/Chief Geologist Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp.

About Liberty Stars Big Chunk Super Project:

Liberty Star, through its wholly owned Alaska subsidiary, Big Chunk Corp., holds exclusive mineral exploration rights to 612 state mining claims in two blocks covering approximately 177 square miles in southwestern Alaska. The Big Chunk claims were initially staked in 2003 along the Big Chunk caldera, which is believed to host Northern Dynasty Minerals/Anglo Americans Pebble Project. Liberty Star has recently conducted exploratory drilling on specific targets for porphyry copper, gold, molybdenum (moly), silver and zinc. SRK Consulting submitted a NI 43-101 compliant technical report on the Big Chunk Super Project in 2010: available on Liberty Stars web site http://www.libertystaruranium.com/.

Forward-Looking Statements

Statements in this news release that are not historical are forward-looking statements. Forward-looking statements in this news release include our drilling plans, that drilling will recommence in May 2013; that we can work from our camp for many years; that analysis will be completed and may lead to a copper and gold body discovery. Factors which may delay or prevent these forward-looking statements from being realized include: the failure of our exploration program to identify targets; we may not be able to raise sufficient funds to complete our intended exploration, keep our properties or carry on operations; we may be unable to continue exploration due to weather, logistical problems, labor or equipment problems or hazards even if funds are available. Despite encouraging data there may be no commercially exploitable mineralization on our properties. Kansas supports suit opposing concealed-carry permit restrictions

Posted: at 2:13 pm

Kansas has joined 13 other states in supporting the U.S. Constitutions Second Amendment by agreeing that people dont need to show why they want a permit to carry a concealed firearm.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt said Thursday he has added Kansas to a friend-of-the-court brief filed in the 4th U.S. Circuit of Appeals in Richmond, Va. The appellate court is reviewing a decision by a Maryland district court that struck down a Maryland requirement that a person must show a reason for needing a concealed permit before one is issued.

Citizens who qualify to have a concealed carry permit should not be required to clear the further hurdle of showing the government why they need to have a firearm, Schmidt said. The Second Amendment protects the individuals right to keep and bear arms and does not allow the government to demand to know the reason why.

Kansas is one of 39 states with a concealed-carry law on the books that doesnt require a person to give a reason for needing the license, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Maryland is among 10 states with a concealed-carry law that has further restrictions, such as requiring a reason for the permit. In Maryland, the law requires a person to have good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun.

The Maryland State Police unit that handles the permit requests has said that such a reason must reflect more than `personal anxiety and (show) a level of threat beyond that faced by the average citizen, according to court filings.

Illinois is the only state that bans a private citizen from carrying a concealed firearm. The District of Columbia also has the prohibition.

Kansas became one of the last states to adopt a concealed-carry law when it was passed by the Legislature in 2006; it took effect in 2007. As of Aug. 15, there were 45,953 concealed-carry permits issued in Kansas, including 9,869 in Sedgwick County.

The other 13 states signing on with the brief are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia and West Virginia.
