Liberty to reorganise, commits to WSBK

Liberty Racing reaffirms its commitment to the World Superbike Championship despite confirming it won't be part of the series' first visit to Russia.
Speculation regarding the future of the Czech-based team was raised when it wasn't included on Infront's provisional entry list for next week's Moscow event, the series' first-ever foray into Russia.
Liberty has now formally confirmed its absence for that event, but maintains it will be present for the final three events, starting with the Nurburgring on September 7-9, and also reaffirmed its commitment to competing in 2013.
In the meantime, Liberty Racing's press release suggests the team will undergo a restructure across the team, a move that it says also concerns riders Jakub Smrz, Maxime Berger and Brett McCormick, though it isn't clear whether such a statement relates to the final rounds or for the 2013 season.
The last part of the season is a prelude to a constructive reorganisation of its [Liberty Racing's] human, technical and logistical resources for the next racing season, a press release read.
Looking for the next round, the Liberty Team is overhauling its staff organization and sport planning for next year, when Liberty Racing will be at the start of the World Superbike Championship determined to improve its results.
That decision involves also the riders of the Czech team, Kuba Smr and Maxime Berger, who will arrive in Germany at the beginning of September ready and motivated, while the recovery Brett McCormick is ongoing.
The Liberty Racing Team continues in its commitment to motorsport not only animated by the desire to obtain significant performance results but also investing in an increasingly profitable and targeted way, thus building its future by analysing and improving its present with care and foresight.
Having made a solid debut in 2011, Liberty Racing has been embroiled in controversy at various points this season, most notably its retort against Infront over the handling of the cancelled Monza races and the acrimonious split with its lead rider Sylvain Guintoli last month.
Despite this, Liberty Racing has achieved several landmarks in 2012, with Guintoli scoring its first win at Assen, while the Frenchman and Smrz have notched up three pole positions between them.

Megadeth's Mustaine is right, we are outgunned

You may not know this, but the Second Amendment says you have a right to own an AR-15 assault rifle with a 100-round barrel.
And an RPG.
And a tank.
And a stealth bomber.
And a 50-megaton atomic bomb.
Oh, and most important of all, a wand from Ollivander's wand shop in Diagon Alley, preferably one that won't backfire when you cast the Cruciatus Curse.
Don't try to argue with me. I've read the Second Amendment, and it says that the right of the people to bear arms should not be infringed ever.
More importantly, I know what the Founders' intentions were: They knew that an armed populace would keep the government's inevitable slide into tyranny at bay. After all, nothing keeps the powers that be in check like the fear of an armed uprising. Well, except for the fact that some dude wants to marry some other dude and spend the rest of his life making eye babies with his hubby. That shit really freaks them the fuck out.
Unfortunately, any armed uprising today would be squashed in a matter of days. Why? We're outgunned. Which is why you, me, and everyone we know should be able to have access to the same firepower as Uncle Sam. After all, that's what James Madison and the gang intended. And that means atomic fucking bombs, lots of them, with conceal and carry permits for every man, woman, and child. That'll teach the federal to keep their goddamn hands off our Medicare.
Sadly, that's not the world we live in. Evidently, the liberal scum in Washington wants to take away the few peashooters we're allowed to have today. And they'll go to great lengths to make sure that even those pop guns are banned. And lately they've been particularly hard at work. Or so says Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.

Hate (and free) speech

mike koozman/sf newspaper co.
How far can you push free speech? Is it okay for Muni to run ads that are utterly, inexcusably offensive to Arabs and Muslims in the name of political expression?
I'm pretty much always on the side of the First Amendment. And we were furious when a Bay Guardian ad campaign accusing then-mayor WIllie Brown of political corruption suddenly vanished from the sides of the local buses. It's hard to seek government limitations on any political statement. But if the ads that appeared Aug. 7 on Muni aren't over the line, they're pretty close to it.
Here you have an organization described not only by the Southern Poverty Law Center but by the Anti-Defamation League as a hate group buying space on San Francisco buses for ads that effectively disparage a vast religious, ethnic and cultural community as "savages." The campaign is obviously designed to get publicity; not that many San Franciscans are going to be convinced to join the American Freedom Defense Initiative. Nobody's opinion on the Middle East will be swayed by this shit.
But this tiny cadre of loonies, led by Pamela Geller, who is really fucking scary, wants attention. In New York, the anti-Muslim group sued when the city tried to take down the same bus ads, and you know they'd love it if that happened here. Muni says it can't legally pull the ads, which is probably true -- although BART has a more restrictive policy.
It's not just idle rhetoric -- this stuff frightens people. "We're hearing from people that they're uncomfortable riding Muni," Zahra Biloo, executive director of the Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, told me.
Obviously, you can't run ads that enourage someone to engage in violence. Is dehumanizing people and calling them "savages" the same thing? Biloo thinks it's pretty close: "It's important for progressive cities to say, 'not in our city,'" she said.
A change.org petition condemning the ads has more than 2,000 signatures.
On the other hand, I don't want to give Geller the pleasure of suing San Francisco and making this into a Free Speech cause. Because that's exactly what she wants, and probably the reason she bought the ads in the first place. So how about this: The supervisors pass a resolution denouncing the ad and the message, and Muni agrees to give CAIR the same number of ads, free, in the same locations (gee, maybe even on the other side of the same buses) to present an alternative message.
At least it's a start.
