Santorum says freedom, not jobs, is key

MOLINE, Ill., March 19 (UPI) -- U.S. Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Monday freedom, not the jobless rate, is the key issue in the 2012 election.
In a campaign speech the day before the Illinois primary election, in which he is chasing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania said his candidacy is "more foundational" than the ups-and-downs of the economy, CBS News reported.
"We need a candidate who's going to be a fighter for freedom. Who's going to get up and make that the central theme in this race because it is the central theme in this race," Santorum told about 200 supporters in Moline. "I don't care what the unemployment rate's going to be. Doesn't matter to me. My campaign doesn't hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates. It's something more foundational that's going on."
Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded in an e-mail to reporters that Santorum's remarks show him to be an "economic lightweight."
"Wow. Sen. Santorum may not care about the unemployment rate in this country or the nearly 24 million Americans struggling for work, but Mitt Romney does and is running to get people back to work," Saul said. "If anyone needed evidence that Rick Santorum is an economic lightweight, they needn't look any further than his various statements today."
CBS said Santorum later told reporters, "Of course I care about the unemployment rate."
"I want the unemployment rate to go down, but I'm saying, my candidacy doesn't hinge on whether the unemployment rate goes up and down," he said. "Our candidacy's about something that transcends that; it's about freedom, it's not about, you know, Gov. Romney's idea that he's going to fix the economy, which is something that, of course, we as Republicans don't believe that presidents fix the economy; we believe that we try to do things to create an atmosphere for the economy to fix itself."
Polls have shown Romney leading Santorum heading into the Illinois primary, with former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas trailing well behind. Fifty-four of Illinois' 69 delegates are at stake in the primary, with the remainder to be apportioned at the GOP's state convention. Santorum isn't registered in all of Illinois' congressional district so the most delegates he could win is 44.

BURNABY, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Viscount Systems (OTC Markets:VSYS), a leading edge high technology supplier of security systems and software today is pleased to announce that Viscounts Freedom has been selected to secure its first US Department of Homeland Security agency facility.
We are very pleased that the top echelon of US Government agencies are now recognizing the benefits of Freedom compared to traditional control panel architecture, noted Stephen Pineau, CEO of Viscount Systems. In addition to cost savings, Freedom eliminates the cyber security vulnerabilities of panels and our new unified Microsoft Active Directory platform provides a simplified and more secure architecture for administering the system. The Freedom platform is Cloud ready and Microsoft Azure compatible to allow a seamless migration. Finally, physical security at US Government facilities is being driven by the requirement to be compliant with the new FIPS 201 standard and there are estimates that tens of thousands of systems will be required to be upgraded in the coming years. With the budgetary issues facing government agencies, Freedom is incredibly well positioned as a fully compliant, cloud based and low cost alternative to become a major factor in the US Government physical security market.
This project involves the potential deployment of approximately 300 US government sites which expands our total potential deployments to close to 1500 US government facilities based on other pilot projects underway. We expect this number to increase rapidly through the coming months. The typical revenue per site should average approximately $10,000.

ESGR Announces Nominations for 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award
Posted: at 6:08 pm
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, received 3,236 nominations for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the Department of Defenses highest recognition for employers supporting members of the Guard and Reserve. Up to 15 recipients will be announced this summer and honored in Washington, D.C. on September 20 at the 17th annual Freedom Award Ceremony.
Guard and Reserve members, or family members acting on their behalf, nominated their civilian employers for the Freedom Award during the 12-week nomination season. Guard and Reserve members, who stand ready to serve whenever our Nation needs them, often put their civilian lives on hold when they answer the call to duty. Supportive employers provide a tremendous amount of stability and peace of mind to these Citizen Warriors and their families, enabling them to continue their dedicated service to our country.
"Guardsmen and Reservists continue to receive outstanding support from their employers," said ESGR National Chair James G. Rebholz. "America's employers have not wavered in their commitment to these Citizen Warriors."
Almost one-half of the U.S. military is comprised of the Guard and Reserve, and while most employers proudly support their military employees, Freedom Award recipients go above and beyond what is required by law. Last years recipients were nominated for superior acts of support including driving a deployed employees children to school, replacing a military employees broken family refrigerator while he was serving abroad, and working overtime to cover a service members shifts so he could take part in military training.
A list of nominations from all 50 states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia are available at http://www.FreedomAward.mil. Semifinalists for the 2012 Freedom Award will be announced later next month.
About ESGR and the Freedom Award:
The Freedom Award was instituted in 1996 under the auspices of ESGR to recognize exceptional support from the employer community. In the years since, 160 employers have been honored with the award. Established as a DoD agency 40 years ago, ESGR develops and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.

Freedom Energy – SR-139 Process Patent Application Update
Posted: at 6:08 pm
FORT WAYNE, Ind., March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Freedom Energy Holdings, Inc. (Pinksheets: FDMF.PK - News) announced today that the company has retained Michael W. Goltry, of Parsons & Goltry, Patent and Trademark Attorneys at Law, Phoenix, Arizona, to provide the patent application for FDMF's proprietary asphalt shingle recycling technology SR-139.
Michael W. Goltry holds a chemistry degree from the College of Idaho and a law degree from Brigham Young University. After graduating law school, Michael moved to Washington, D.C, where he was a judicial law clerk for Chief Judge Frank Q. Nebeker of the United States Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims. Brian Kistler, Chief Executive Officer, Freedom Energy Holdings commented, "I am glad to announce that the wheels for the patent application are fully in motion. After conducting the initial investigation, Mr. Goltry agreed to move forward with the application. His firm has been fully retained and has prepared an initial draft of the patent application and we are reviewing the contents for accuracy. I fully expect to file the final application very shortly to gain the term patent pending when describing the SR-139."
"I continue to receive new inquiries weekly from other shingle recyclers both domestically and internationally. Once the process is fully operational and the finished product is being produced, the true value of SR-139 will be recognized. Our joint venture with CSSR has been suspended by mutual agreement. Evidently the task to engineer and build proved to be more daunting than originally thought. We are continuing to nurture and develop relationships within the asphalt shingle recycling industry, which is at its infancy. This is only a minor setback and will prove to be advantageous for Freedom and our shareholders. With our recently announced Investment Banking agreement with DME Securities, funding for the mechanical design will hopefully follow and we will be able to complete the engineering and design without outside assistance. Should there be any questions please feel free to contact me," Kistler concluded.

Notre Dame routs Liberty 74-43 in NCAA 1st round
Posted: at 6:08 pm
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) So anxious and eager was Notre Dame to get back in the NCAA tournament, the Irish pretty much decided the outcome of their opener in the first two minutes.
Top-seeded Notre Dame took off with the game's first 11 points Sunday and, playing loose on their home floor, routed Liberty 74-43.
''It was important for us to come out and understand that the game started at 0-0 and we did not want to underestimate them, so we wanted to get off to a good start,'' guard Skylar Diggins said.
''We hadn't played in a while and that fed into it a lot. Plus, it's the NCAA tournament and upsets happen on both sides (men and women) and you don't want to be that team. So, we wanted to make a statement right off the tip and control the tempo right away.''
Did they ever. After Liberty closed to within 16-8, Notre Dame reeled off 11 more points in a row and that led to a 44-19 halftime lead. Notre Dame was up by as many as 34 in the second half when coach Muffet McGraw was able to substitute freely and rest her regulars.
The Irish (31-3), the national runner-up last year, will face California (25-9) on Tuesday at the Purcell Pavilion, where Notre Dame is 16-1 this season. The Golden Bears beat Iowa 84-74 in the first game and they will most certainly provide a stronger test.
In the Irish's opening burst, Natalie Novosel and Brittany Mallory hit 3-pointers to open the scoring. Kayla McBride converted a three-point play and Devereaux Peters made a jumper for an 11-0 lead with 18:24 left in the half.
Playing in her first NCAA tournament game, McBride had 13 of her team-high 15 points in the first half to get the Irish moving.
''I came out with a sense of urgency to try and get into the flow of the game and try to get good shots,'' McBride said.
''I think she was so anxious to play in her first NCAA and she really came out well,'' McGraw said of McBride.

American Liberty Petroleum Sees Promise at Paradise Well
Posted: at 6:08 pm
American Liberty Petroleum on Tuesday provided background information on the Company's acquisition of the Paradise 2-12 well located in Gabbs Valley, Nye County, Nevada, and of American Liberty's subsequent well completion efforts.
The well is situated on the Cobble Cuesta structure, a 12 mile by 5 mile faulted anticline that appears to be positioned to receive oil migrated from deeper areas in the eastern part of Gabbs Valley.
"We are fortunate to have acquired the Paradise 2-12 well asset within such a promising region. The presence of oil that we have seen coming from the well has spurred us on to maximize on the potential value of both this asset and the sizeable anticline that lies beneath it."
The Paradise 2-12 well was initially drilled in the fall of 2010 before the Company had acquired any ownership of the asset. The well reached a total depth of 4,248 feet into the Tertiary Esmeralda Formation within the 26,000-acre Cobble Cuesta structure in the northwest part of Gabbs Valley. A report by Alfred H. Pekarek, Ph.D., Geologist, from January 2008 estimated the Cobble Cuesta structure represents reserves of 4+ billion barrels of oil based on reservoir and production data from producing Nevada oil fields.
The Paradise 2-12 well indicated live oil at several zones from mud logs. Of the two drill stem tests (DSTs) run during the drilling, DST No. 2 (3,695 feet to 3,786 feet) recovered oil and confirmed pressures and permeability. Based on these tests, the BLM determined the well was capable of commercial production, and consequently extended the lease to allow for further completion efforts.
American Liberty Petroleum, through a joint venture agreement ("the JV") with Cortez Exploration LLC and Desert Discoveries LLC, thereafter acquired all rights to the 3,840-acre Cortez lease (BLM Lease number NVN-59901) and the two wells located on it; the Company has a 60 percent Working Interest and a 48 percent Net Revenue Interest in the lease.
On August 1, 2011, Independence Drilling LLC, the designated operator for the JV, obtained all the necessary permits and commenced a completion program on the Paradise 2-12 well. The results of this work showed a fluid level test of 3,100 feet of oil and water in the well bore above the perforation zone of 3,700 feet - 3,782 feet. A completion rig was brought to the site and swabbing produced a total of 97 barrels (bbls) of fluid consisting of a paraffinic 19.5 API gravity oil and water. Based on this inflow data, American Liberty concluded the well warranted further completion and pumping operation activities in order to fully determine its potential to commercially produce oil.
"We are fortunate to have acquired the Paradise 2-12 well asset within such a promising region. The presence of oil that we have seen coming from the well has spurred us on to maximize on the potential value of both this asset and the sizeable anticline that lies beneath it," said American Liberty Petroleum's President Alvaro Vollmers.

Liberty/Clairton meets federal clean air standards for first time, officials say
Posted: at 6:08 pm
The Liberty and Clairton areas have met federal clean air standards, meaning air quality in Allegheny County is the best it has been since the industrial revolution began, officials said today.
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said the annual air quality standard for fine particulate matter in the Liberty/Clairton area has come into compliance more than three years ahead of the required attainment date of August 2015.
"This is great progress and a significant milestone for Allegheny County's air quality," said Fitzgerald. "We must remain vigilant and continue working to improve air quality throughout the county."
Air quality improved at every monitoring site in 2011, with fine particulate levels well below the annual standard of 15 micrograms per cubic meter Liberty (14.0), Avalon (13.1), North Braddock (12.3), Harrison (11.6), Lawrenceville (11.1), Clairton (10.7), South Fayette (10.6) and North Park (9.0).
"With the Liberty/Clairton area in compliance, every air monitoring station now meets the annual clean air standard for fine particulates, and air quality in Allegheny County is the best it has been since the industrial revolution began more than 100 years ago," said Air Quality Program Manager Jim Thompson.
The air quality improvements, especially in the Liberty/Clairton area, are because of recent pollution controls that have decreased emissions from the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works and from other sources upwind, particularly out-of-state power plants.

Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot: Will The Illuminati Sacrifice Him Over Alien Turtle Plans? [VIDEO]
Posted: at 6:08 pm
Michael Bay better hope his vision changes for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, where the mutant turtles are instead depicted as aliens, lest he be sacrificed by the Illuminati.
Bay's plans for the reboot have been widely panned on the Internet, including a voice actor from the TMNT cartoon series saying the director is "sodomizing" the franchise.
Robbie Rist wrote a letter to Bay, saying, "You probably don't know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing," according to TMZ.
The Illuminati have also taken to Twitter to warn Bay not to mess with the mutant component of the characters.
"Michael Bay is re-making Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If Michael Bay destroys this classic, he will surely be sacrificed for his mistakes," @TheIlluminati wrote.
The tweet has been retweeted more than 1,382 times.

Bay said over the weekendthat Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo and Michaelangelo "are from an alien race" in his version of the characters. Meanwhile, the four turtles are mutants in previous "Turtles" films and in comic books, where they became mutants when toxic sludge seeped into the sewers where they were living.
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe one day that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie," Bay said at the annual Nickelodeon Upfront festival in Lincoln Center, which you can watch in the video below. "These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

Gun shows caught in the crossfire
Posted: at 6:06 pm
Before the end of this year, Russell and Sallie Nordyke will set up shop for at least five gun shows at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds, providing a gathering spot for thousands of gun enthusiasts to buy and sell rifles, pistols and other weapons.
For the Glenn County couple, the South Bay is a small island amid a sea of hostility toward their TS Gun Shows. Bay Area counties from Alameda and Marin to San Mateo have enacted laws that forbid the sale or possession of guns on government property, effectively banning gun shows at some of the best spots to hold them.
The Nordykes believe those laws are unconstitutional -- and on Monday, a federal appeals court will once again take up their 12-year quest to strike down the regulations.
The case offers another crucial test of Second Amendment rights that could have repercussions for California's sweeping slate of state and local gun control laws.
Specifically, an 11-judge 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel is to hear arguments in the Nordykes' legal challenge to Alameda County's ordinance, which has outlawed gun shows at the fairgrounds in Pleasanton since 1999.
"It has impacted our lives tremendously," Sallie Nordyke said. "We used to be able to have gun shows in a lot of other places."
With gun rights groups such as the National Rifle Association on one side and gun control advocates such as the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence on the other, the Nordyke case
The most recent of those rulings, in a Chicago case two years ago, established that the Second Amendment applies to state and local gun control regulations. But it left unresolved the legal survival threshold for laws such as Alameda County's, and the 9th Circuit is expected to tackle that issue in the Nordyke case.
The outcome could determine the fate of gun show regulations in California and other states within the 9th Circuit and may also shape ongoing legal challenges to other gun controls. With the Nordyke case pending, the 9th Circuit has put on hold two cases challenging California's strict limits on carrying concealed weapons and licenses for carrying loaded firearms in public.
"This could be the next big gun case to go to the Supreme Court," said Adam Winkler, a UCLA law professor and author of "Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America." "It does pose a big question: whether the right to bear arms extends outside the home."
