Council rewrites freedom camping rules

Posted: March 16, 2012 at 7:39 pm

IAN ALLEN

A proposed draft by-law on freedom camping in Marlborough will reverse existing legislation that prohibits freedom camping in the district except for designated areas.

The new by-law would allow freedom camping across Marlborough, except for designated areas.

The Marlborough District Council would also have the power to issue $200 spot fines under the proposed legislation.

Members of the council assets and services committee voted at their regular meeting yesterday to recommend to the full council that the proposed draft by-law be put out for public consultation.

Council reserves and amenities manager Rosie Bartlett said the new by-law was the opposite of the existing law. There would still be restrictions in place where freedom camping was allowed, she said.

Prohibited areas include the townships of Blenheim, Picton, Havelock, Seddon and Renwick, Queen Charlotte Dr, Kenepuru and French Pass roads and council reserves.

The public consultation process might highlight other areas where freedom camping should be banned, Ms Bartlett said.

"We are really keen to hear from the public to learn about other problem areas that we don't know about."

Freedom camping had increased in Marlborough, Ms Bartlett said.

Rihanna Ilumminati Conspiracy: Is New Cross Tattoo A Symbol Of The Secret Society?

Posted: at 7:38 pm

Rihanna's new tattoo, a small slanted cross in the crook of her neck, may just be an ancient Illuminati symbol, claims MediaTakeOut.com. The slanted cross is actually a symbol of the Free Masons, who believed to overlap or possibly be controlled by the Illuminati a supposed secret society made up of some of the most powerful people in the world and bent on controlling global affairs through various governments and corporations with the end goal of establishing a new world order.

Could the new tattoo be connected to Rihanna and Chris Brown's secret relationship? According to ex-Illuminati member John Todd, "not only are they illuminati members, but also there are Illuminati marries." When asked to elaborate, Todd explained, "Fixed marriages. An Illuminati member is sworn to secrecy so what is the best way to keep what is going on a secret? [It] is to marry someone into the same thing [sic]."

With this somewhat nutty explanation in mind, Rihanna's defiant decision to reunite with the man who beat her face to a pulp just three years ago begins to make sense when you realize that it's not actually her decision. If their relationship is being dictated by Illuminati leaders then the two Hip Hop stars have no choice but to marry each other.

Still not convinced? In the music video for her hit single S&M the words "Princess of the Illuminati" flash on the screen two separate times. The song's lyrics are generally considered to be erotic and scandalous, but some have theorized that they may be hiding a second meaning referencing the conspiracy. Even if Rihanna isn't a part of the Illuminati, she seems to be enjoying the media buzz that comes with these wacky conspiracies.

Princess of the Illuminati screenshot from S&M music video.

Rihanna has denied conspiracy theories tying her to the Illuminate in the past, even calling an unexpected new conference to tell the press that the rumors were completely unfounded.

"It's ridiculous that this won't go away," Rihanna said in the statement. "The facts speak for themselves, and my talent speaks for itself. I'm not a party in any way to some all-powerful secret society somehow fixing the fate of the world behind closed doors for nefarious ends. That's just nonsense."

An anonymous source claiming close ties with the Illuminate told The Daily Quarterly that the Bajan singer is in fact a involved with the secret society.

"Her talent is not commensurate with her level of success," the source said.

Free Speech/Protesting Is Now A Felony Punishable By Jail – Video

Posted: at 7:36 pm

15-03-2012 03:03 The First Amendment to the Constitution prohibits the government from infringing upon the freedom of speech, the freedom of association and the freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Speech is language and other forms of expression; and association and petition connote physical presence in reasonable proximity to those of like mind and to government officials, so as to make your opinions known to them. The Declaration of Independence recognizes all three freedoms as stemming from our humanity. So, what happens if you can speak freely, but the government officials at whom your speech is aimed refuse to hear you? And what happens if your right to associate and to petition the government is confined to areas where those of like mind and the government are not present? This is coming to a street corner near you. Certain rights, like thought and privacy and travel, can be exercised on their own. You don't need the government to cooperate with you; you just need to be left alone. Other rights, like those intended to influence the political process, require that the government not resist your exercise of them. Remember the old one-liner from Philosophy 101: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, does it make any noise? Here's the contemporary version of that: If you can criticize the government, but it refuses to hear you, does your exercise of the freedom of speech have any value? When the framers of the Constitution wrote the First Amendment ...

Syria and Libya: Two paths to freedom

Posted: at 2:51 am

15 March 2012 Last updated at 20:27 ET By Rana Jawad BBC News, Tripoli

People in Libya and Syria both rose up to overthrow decades of tyrannical rule. A year on, why are they living two very different realities?

There was a time during the Libyan uprising when Libyans worriedly stared at the screens.

They watched events unfold in Syria after their own moves to rise against a man who brutally suppressed them for decades.

Although they understood the Syrian cries for freedom, they worried that the world's attention would swiftly shift to President Bashar al-Assad's lethal crackdown.

They worried that their battle and their needs would be forgotten and Syria would become a priority. How wrong they were.

Was it simply easier for outside observers to unite against Col Muammar Gaddafi, a man who appeared to the world as a dishevelled loon, as opposed to Mr Assad's suave looks and measured public tone?

It certainly made it easier for the UN Security Council to pass a resolution on Libya that paved the way for intervention.

However, there were bigger factors at play.

Though all the recent uprisings in the Arab world have the shared thread of freedom running through them, the joins between them are not all seamless.

ICCO Hails Philippine Press Freedom

Posted: at 2:51 am

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. - Press freedom in the Philippines was noted and hailed by International Organization for Development Cooperation (ICCO) Foundation regional manager Kees de Ruitger.

"Compared to such other Asian countries as Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar, the press in the Philippines enjoys plenty of freedom to report the news as it happens," observed Ruiter last weekend during a three-day conference here on Value Chain Development on Fair Economic Development: Conversations on Framework, hosted by partner NGO - Task Force Mapalad, among other non-government organizations and local government agency partners .

The Netherlands-based ICCO supports its local partner organizations in capability building and technical inputs for its beneficiaries including farmers, fishermen, indigenous peoples and other marginalized sectors in the rural areas with poverty-alleviating inputs.

ICCO has projects in 52 countries around the world, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Africa, Latin America, and the Philippines.

Although some of its partner organizations are cause oriented groups, ICCO does not support the mass actions they organize. Stressed Ruitger, "Our objective is to strengthen our partner organizations and civil society to become self reliant."

In the Philippines, ICCO has projects in Samar for sewage value change involving coastal folks. In Mindanao, particularly in Bukidnon, Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga Peninsula, Zamboanga del Sur, ICCO helps local farmers planting organic rice, coffee and cacao. In Negros Island, ICOO is involved in various land farming projects in La Castellana, Isabela, Canlaon, and Sagay City.

The ICCO regional manager remarked that "the Philippines is the easiest country to work with because here, there is a strong civil society and government and NGOs work together."
