LodgeNet Broadband Continues Momentum with DOCOMO FREEDOM Installations at New Castle Properties
Posted: February 22, 2012 at 5:28 am
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LodgeNet Interactive Corporation (NASDAQ: LNET - News), the leading provider of interactive media and connectivity services to hospitality and healthcare businesses and the consumers they serve, and New Castle Hotels & Resorts, an independent hotel owner, today announced that LodgeNet Broadband has installed the DOCOMO FREEDOM Internet solution at hotels in the New Castle portfolio.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20080115/AQTU120LOGO)
The FREEDOM installations offer guests of the Sheraton Tarrytown (NY) and the Racine (WI) Marriott a superior Internet experience on their laptop, smartphone or tablet device, with content optimized for each screen and the ability to support up to five Internet-connected devices per guest. The experience is further streamlined by the platform's resident device recognition capability, which allows the server to automatically recognize which device is being used.
Benefits to the installed hotels include the flexibility to offer tiered bandwidth pricing (free for basic connectivity or fee-based with higher fees for greater speeds), supported by a robust management toolset that allows bandwidth to be capped at specific speeds by user, group or location and protects the network from being dominated by a single user or user group.
"Facing an ever increasing demand for bandwidth, the growing number of multiple-device users and established guest expectations for free Internet access, we turned to LodgeNet and the FREEDOM Internet platform," said Gerry Chase, President and COO for New Castle Hotels & Resorts. "FREEDOM allows our hotels to offer a baseline level of complimentary Internet access as well as higher-speed pay options, the revenues from which will help us recover some of the circuit costs that have been driven higher by escalating bandwidth requirements. The ability to deliver a quality user experience across all of the most common devices is also a tremendous benefit from a guest satisfaction standpoint."
"The laptop is no longer the only user device that hotels need to accommodate," said Steve Pofahl, Senior Vice President/General Manager for LodgeNet Broadband. "With today's travelers commonly carrying more than one Internet connected device, it is crucial that a hotel's broadband service not only supports seamless switching between the guest's devices, but also allows the hotel to price the service at various levels depending on guests' needs. With the DOCOMO FREEDOM solution we are able to offer all of that and more."
LodgeNet is the exclusive U.S. hotel reseller of the DOCOMO FREEDOM solution, which received a 2011 HOT (Hospitality Operations Technology) Award as best-in-class Internet service from Casino Enterprise Management magazine.

Freedom principal promoted to new job
Posted: at 5:28 am
By KENNETH KNIGHT | The Tampa Tribune
Published: February 22, 2012 Updated: February 22, 2012 - 12:00 AM
NEW TAMPA --
After four years at the helm, popular Freedom High Principal Chris Farkas is being promoted to a new district post.
Farkas is being replaced by David Sheppard, a school administrator from rival Wharton High.
With little fanfare, other than the announcement of administrative appointments at the Hillsborough County School Board's meeting Feb. 14, the two school leaders are making leaps to new posts in the middle of the school year.
Both men started their new jobs Monday.
Farkas leaves the Tampa Palms high school to assume a newly-created position as area leadership director for Area 8 in southern Hillsborough County.
The new post was needed in the school district's fast-growing south county area, said George Gaffney, who supervises schools in northeast Tampa and Temple Terrace. The school district operated with seven area directors for several years.
In his new role, Farkas will oversee 25 public schools. Most will be elementary and middle schools, along with three to four high schools, said Gaffney, who was Farkas' supervisor before the principal's promotion.
"He is a great guy," Gaffney said. "It's a well-deserved move."
Farkas was out of the country last week and could not be reached for comment.
He began teaching in 1997 at a high school in Alabama. Farkas came to the Hillsborough County School District in 1999 as a teacher at Brandon Alternative Center. He later became coordinator for youth services.
In 2004, he became an assistant principal at Tampa Bay Technical High. Two years later, Farkas was promoted to principal.
Farkas succeeded Richard Bartels as principal at Freedom in 2008. He is well-known as an approachable principal by students.
"The students really enjoyed Chris's interaction with them," Gaffney said. "He was very personable."
Gaffney said he expects students will welcome Sheppard with open arms.
Sheppard made the short drive down Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to Commerce Park Boulevard to assume his new duties at Freedom. Sheppard said he will miss Wharton students, teachers and staffers but it is time to take on new challenges.
Sheppard, 42, began his employment with the school district in 1993 as a science/biology/anatomy teacher at Leto High. The Lutz resident transferred to a teaching position at Wharton in 1999 to work closer to home. He and his wife, Donna, have two children, Allison, 12, and Austin, 6.
In 2004, Sheppard was promoted to Wharton's assistant principal of student affairs. He became the school's assistant principal of curriculum two years later. Sheppard said he is ready "to build on the solid foundation" established by Farkas and Bartels.
Last week, news of Sheppard's departure to rival Freedom had begun to trickle out. Sheppard said he had received widespread support from staff and little else.
"So far, it's been all good-natured ribbing," he said.
Sheppard considers a healthy, friendly rivalry between Wharton and Freedom, whether on the field or in the classroom, good for both schools.
"I think both schools can push each other to success," he said.

Liberty City, a second look
Posted: at 5:27 am
I had lunch the other day at Leela’s restaurant in Little Haiti and, boy, was it tasty. Crunchy-on the-outside, moist-on-the-inside fried grouper, fresh veggies and white rice. Simple and good. I’ll be back for more.
That’s precisely what the city of Miami’s Community Development Department hoped for when it invested $430,000 in Community Development Block Grant money from Washington to upgrade the facades of Leela’s and 14 other nearby businesses in Little Haiti. The goal was to improve the look of the neighborhood in order to attract more customers, including folks — frankly, white folks — who normally would never think of going to Little Haiti for anything, much less eating and shopping. These improvements may make some at least consider it. I’m among them.
“We hope that by improving these businesses with their appearances,” said Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, who represents the neighborhood, “it will begin to get more people to come into this particular corridor to shop, dine and explore.”
That’s a lofty goal that would have been inconceivable even a year or two ago. And it still remains to be seen if perceptions about Little Haiti will change just because its “downtown” — the stretch of NE Second Avenue between 54th and 62nd streets — has been nicely spruced up.
But I’ll be the first to say that downtown Little Haiti now has a fighting chance to attract new visitors, what with Caribbean colors brightening a few blocks of contiguous shops that shine with new paint, awnings, windows and doors. It doesn’t take an urban planner to see that because the refurbished businesses are mostly adjacent to each other there’s a nice synergy. It’s also reassuring that an impressive non-profit called NE2P (Northeast 2nd Avenue Partnership), which includes a cross-section of Little Haiti leaders, is behind the push for these and other improvements. “I believe the facade project is just a taste of what is to come in Little Haiti,” says NE2P staffer Joann Milord. The early evidence indicates she may be right.
But what does the evidence say about similar facade refurbishments in Liberty City? I’m less optimistic. In fact, I’m downright skeptical, as I said in my last column. Not since I wrote about the death of our dog Zoe have I received such an outpouring of reaction from readers. More than 90 percent were supportive, including several residents of Liberty City who see the Northwest 7th Avenue Rehabilitation Project as the latest in a string of political boondoggles. Certainly there were a few Liberty City residents who took umbrage at my “lipstick on a pig” analogy and the leader of the nonprofit that will oversee the Northwest 7th Ave. work, Leroy Jones of Neighbors and Neighbors Assn., which will be paid $62,482, blasted me for prejudging a project that hasn’t even begun. Fair enough.
But ire was nothing compared to Spence-Jones’, who, after spying me in the audience at a recent Miami City Commission meeting, remarked on the “many calls” she was getting from constituents who thought my column and comments were “racist.” She made it clear she agreed.
I asked her at the Little Haiti ribbon-cutting why they’d been able to rehab 15 storefronts there, but would do only four in Liberty City for the same amount of money. Her answer was that there might be more than four. Shouldn’t she know? It’s her district and she’s taking credit for the project.
Last week I took a second, closer look at the four businesses along Northwest Seventh Avenue in Liberty City where $428,000 in CDBG money will be spent to refurbish facades. I came away even less convinced this project will achieve much. None is adjacent to another. They sit on a busy, gritty, crime-ridden street where as many stores seem to be closed as open. It’s an area where a lot of people, black and white, would not be comfortable or safe at night.
Let’s see what the finished product looks like, but this money — which has strict spending guidelines — could be better used for other programs in Liberty City, whose needs are legion. Putting $428,000 in taxpayers’ dollars fixing up the facades of four or even half a dozen businesses on Northwest Seventh Avenue will do nothing of lasting value for the people of Liberty City.

[BREAKING!] Whitney Houston's Death was a Barack Obama-Hollywood Illuminati Rub Out
Posted: at 5:27 am
?What do Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Barack Obama, a marijuana-toting pilot who wandered into the presidential airspace leaving Corona del Mar and the shooting of two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Long Beach have in common?
They are all connected to the Hollywood Illuminati Agenda, according to an imaginative blogger.
Creoleguy32 goes into much more detail on the Hollywood Illuminati Agenda-exposing hollywoodilluminatidotcom, but here are some key points:
?Brown was paid in drugs to get his then-wife Houston to sign an Illuminati Contract against her wishes. The "standard Illuminati Contract that all black musical artists sign" so they can "reach Super Star Status" ala Michael Jackson, Jay-Z and Kanye West (who has complained about the Hollywood Illuminati) forced Houston to become an actress by taking a role in The Bodyguard. She also signed a separate pact to promote Lucifer via black dysfunction, drug use and glorification of perverted sexual lifestyles.
But Houston eventually tried to break her contract by appearing in The Preacher's Wife and getting gospel songs onto her records. Which brings us to Obama:
How does the Illuminati kill you? Well they make sure that you have all of the drugs that you can have and they get you addicted to drugs (legal or illegal). Just yesterday, when Obama was flying into Orange County, Ca (where Whitney Houston was living)--a drug plane got busted by Air Force One because it was flying in Obama's air space. Who controls these drug planes? The CIA and Wall Street Illuminati Banking Families.
This drug plane had a shipment of drugs for the Hollywood Illuminati and while the media is saying that this plane only had marijuana on board, it actually had cocaine....LOTS OF COCAINE.
There was so much of cocaine on this plane that was grounded in Long Beach, Ca by Obama's "people" that two ICE Agents in Long Beach, Ca started shooting at each other, in the Federal Building for screwing up the shipment. The media will lie to you but I will tell you what really goes down with these people.
Where does this cocaine go? It goes to LA Sheriff Lee Baca, Beverly Hills PD, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Bros Studio.
It matters not that Houston died on Feb. 11, Obama was in Southern California the morning of Feb. 16 and the ICE shootings were that same evening . . . WTF? The plot had already thickened years earlier, when the Hollywood Illuminati got Brown clean and Houston busted in Hawaii and at airports. They threatened to jail her family members, including Dionne Warwick, who was to be gang raped by Brazilian prison guards if Houston did not comply.
The Hollywood Illuminati made sure Houston's drug dealer was with her in Beverly Hills before the Grammys. Creoleguy32 even claims to know who it is, though he won't dish. So, why kill her? Because her Illuminati Contract was to expire before she turned 50.
She was injected with a substance in her butt, she saw the shadow of a needle when she was on her hotel room bed and got paranoid because when she turned around, no one was there
She thought her mind was playing tricks on her. She broke out into a cold sweat, ran the water to the tub as she tried to go on the toilet, she grew weak and thought that she was coming down with a flu or virus because she was sweating so much and when she got into the tub, barely able to walk, she fainted and drowned. She died a hard death. It was painful.
She was murdered. Killed by the Illuminati.
Sure, this all makes nothing but sense. But I fear Creoleguy32 is ignoring other key evidence . . .
