Liberty's motivation to defeat Central Catholic on Friday night at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium was two-fold. First and foremost, the Hurricanes said they wanted to avenge last week's loss to city rival Bethlehem Catholic, and secondly, the players thought a win on the football field would make their homecoming weekend more enjoyable. <\/p>\n

In its most complete performance in three weeks, Liberty scored two touchdowns in a 70-second span in the third quarter to pull away for a workmanlike 35-14 win over Central Catholic. <\/p>\n
Coach John Truby's Hurricanes improved to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the Lehigh Valley Conference and kept alive their playoff aspirations. <\/p>\n
Junior Ryan Lawrence led the way on offense with 61 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while the Liberty defense limited the Vikings to seven points before the starters exited midway through the final period. <\/p>\n
Central Catholic dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference. <\/p>\n
\"The loss to Bethlehem Catholic left a bad taste in our mouths,\" Liberty senior Andrew Morgan said. \"And with homecoming, we really wanted to win to enjoy that. So yeah, this feels really good.\" <\/p>\n
\"We definitely needed this win,\" Truby said. \"It hasn't been easy the last couple weeks. I think this was very important to get our confidence back.\" <\/p>\n
Liberty led by seven points when it took possession at the Vikings' 48-yard-line early in the third quarter. The Hurricanes needed just six plays to cover the distance to the end zone, with Lawrence's 8-yard touchdown run his second TD of the evening capping the drive. <\/p>\n
