PROVIDENCE, R.I. Steven Costantino, Rhode Islands former Health & Human Services Secretary, has landed a new job as Commissioner of the Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA). <\/p>\n
In making the announcement on Monday, Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said: Were excited to welcome Steven to the team and to Vermont. <\/p>\n
I have known Steven since our days serving in our respective state legislatures and understand him to be a dynamic, hands-on leader, Shumlin said of Costantino, the one-time chairman of the House Finance Committee in Rhode Island. <\/p>\n
Steven Costantinos experience with Medicaid and healthcare reform will be critical as we move toward providing affordable healthcare coverage for all Vermonters, added Vermonts Agency of Human Services Secretary, Hal Cohen. <\/p>\n
In Rhode Island, new Gov. Gina Raimondo opted to appoint former Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts to replace Costantino as the head of the states Executive Office of Health & Human Services. <\/p>\n
The EOHHS is the umbrella agency that administers the states Medicaid program and oversees a network of health and human services agencies, including the Department of Children, Youth and Families, the Department of Human Services and its elderly and veterans affairs divisions, the Department of Health, and the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals. <\/p>\n
Shumlin noted that in his previous position, Costantino was involved in every phase of implementing Rhode Islands Medicaid expansion and health insurance marketplace, HealthSource RI. <\/p>\n
Vermonts current DVHA Commissioner Mark Larson announced in January that he would step down in March. <\/p>\n
In the statement issued by Shumlins office, Costantino is quoted as saying: Vermont is known nationally for its leadership, innovation and creative approach to Medicaid I look forward to drawing upon my successful experience in Rhode Island to help Vermont develop its healthcare reform efforts. <\/p>\n
