Chemistry Department's Crime DNA Unit head, Dr Seah Lay Hong, told the High Court that DNA testing on four cigarette butts collected from the Kuan Yin Temple parking lot matched Koong's DNA profile. <\/p>\n
During examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor T. Deepa Nair yesterday, Dr Seah said saliva samples from the smoker's mouth found on the cigarette was extracted for DNA testing. <\/p>\n
Koong, 45, is on trial for murdering Hussain, 75, as well as for attempted murder of his wife, Cheong Mei Kuen, 50, a managing consultant, at the Kuan Yin Temple parking lot at No. 4, Lorong Ceylon, Dang Wangi, here, between 1.30pm and 2pm, on July 29, last year. <\/p>\n
The 13th prosecution witness said Koong's DNA male profile was found from among four cigarette butt samples sent by the police to the Chemistry Department on Aug 1 last year. <\/p>\n
Acting Deputy Superintendent Zuraimi Zam Zam, attached with the Forensic Laboratory Division (D10) of the Kuala Lumpur Police headquarters, testified that he and seven officers found the cigarette butts at food stalls within the temple compound. <\/p>\n
Zuraimi said after they arrived at the temple parking lot about 3.15pm on July 29 last year, they gathered the cigarette butts from stalls about 10m from Hussain's body and 6m from the main temple building. <\/p>\n
He said after being wrapped and sealed, the cigarette butts were handed over to Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent R. Ananthan that same day. <\/p>\n
He said they also collected three bullets from under Hussain's body and seven bullet casings scattered near the body. The evidence was given to Ananthan the same day. <\/p>\n
He said the deceased's body was initially covered by black plastic before he pulled it off, revealing the corpse sprawled on the ground, drenched in blood. <\/p>\n
