FOR the first time in its history, the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) will hold its 22nd annual conference in Asia from Oct 25-27. <\/p>\n
Meeting activities and sessions will be held at the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay on the Singapore River. This three-day conference is directed at those involved in the healthcare, education, administration and supervision of dancers, including physicians, physical therapists, allied health professionals, alternative healthcare practitioners, psychologists, arts administrators, artistic directors, choreographers, educators, scientists, movement specialists, and dancers. <\/p>\n
The event provides an interesting mixture of medical symposia on issues affecting dancers, dance and pedagogical research, movement sessions by somatic practitioners and dance instructors. <\/p>\n
There will also be a special programme on Oct 28 called A Day For Teachers (SIG Day). You may register to attend SIG Day even if you do not attend the conference. <\/p>\n
A Day For Teachers, Approaches To Wellness For Dancers, will explore the psychological and physical essentials of disciplines that dancers use to complement dance technique class. <\/p>\n
Numerous social and cultural events will also be available to participants, including a contemporary dance performance by Malaysian dancer\/choreographer Mavin Khoo, guided tours of the city and a gala party focusing on the Asian arts renaissance. <\/p>\n
These activities are jointly sponsored by IADMS in collaboration with Paradigm Wellness Pte Ltd. <\/p>\n
Khoos choreography entitled Akasha will take place on Oct 25 at 8pm. The piece explores the notion of aether as signified through the pluralism of its possibilities: air, spirit and energy. <\/p>\n
Performing under a circle of light, the five performers, including Khoo, are between worlds, and explore the concepts of mortality and immortality. <\/p>\n
The show will take place at Drama Theatre, School of the Arts, 1, Zubir Said Drive, Singapore. Tickets are priced at RM145 and RM195. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
