KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- As for Dr Leong Kin Fon, a paediatric dermatologist consultant, atopic eczema can be managed and those afflicted by the disorder could lead an active and comfortable life. <\/p>\n
This is particularly so for children who are most affected by the eczema symptoms. <\/p>\n
He noted that a person who is born with dry porous skin and hyperactive immune gene could get atopic eczema when triggered by environmental factors like weather, stress, food, harsh cleaning compounds, allergen, bacteria and dust mites. The relative contribution of each factor might vary from individual to individual. <\/p>\n
\"Some might get flare-ups by eating a certain type of food like eggs, nuts or seafood. Some might not be affected at all by food but will start scratching when the weather is too hot or too cold. <\/p>\n
\"Chemical detergent used to clean the toilet or fragrance based soaps can also trigger eczema in some people,\" explained Dr Leong. <\/p>\n
Symptoms can appear at any age but most common during infancy. However research shows that 70 per cent of those with eczema see significant improvement by the age of 15, while the other 30 per cent continue to live with the condition through adulthood. <\/p>\n
THE ONE MAGIC CREAM <\/p>\n
In search for cure, Dr Leong noted that there was no such thing as 'the' cream. It is also not as simple as identifying one particular food or allergen and avoiding it. Since the condition differs with individuals, so does the treatment. <\/p>\n
