With the aim to promote foresight activities in Peru and encourage local future studies to prepare the South American country to face the challenges of the next decades, a group of Peruvian futurists led by Fernando Ortega, Chair of Millennium Projects Peruvian Node, will organize the International Future Day on March 1st at the main Auditorium of the College of Engineers in Lima. <\/p>\n
The principal event will be an open Seminar on the Future of Peru, Latin America and the World, which will have as keynote speakers Dr. Jos Luis Cordeiro, Chair of Millennium Projects Venezuelan Node, and Dr. Carlos Fonseca, former Chair of Colombian Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (Colciencias) and former Vice-minister of Environment in Colombia. Jos Luis Cordeiro will also present The Millennium Projects Global Futures Intelligence System and the Spanish version of the latest best-seller by Ray Kurzweil, How to Create a Mind, whose preface he has written. \"Serious thinking about the future needs to contemplate the real possibility of a technological singularity where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence,\" explained Dr. Cordeiro. <\/p>\n
Although this first celebration will be focused in Lima, the organizers want to enlarge the coverage of events all around Peru next year. \"The awareness about the future is waking up in Peru, mainly among the young people, who wish to build a better country with wide opportunities for everyone,\" according to Fernando Ortega, President of the Organizing Committee. <\/p>\n
The Millennium Project is a global participatory think tank connecting 50 Nodes around the world that identify important challenges in their regions, and initiate and conduct futures-related special research, workshops, symposiums, and advanced training. Its mission is to improve thinking about the future and make it available through a variety of media for feedback to accumulate wisdom about the future for better decisions today. It produces the annual \"State of the Future\" reports, the \"Futures Research Methodology\" series, the Global Futures Intelligence System (GFIS), and special studies. The forthcoming 2013-2014 State of the Future will be also launched on International Futures Day, March 1st, 2014. Its recent report \"Latin America 2030\" is also available on The Millennium Project website. <\/p>\n
Humanity+ (formerly the World Transhumanist Association) is an international organization which advocates the ethical use of emerging technologies to enhance human capacities. The World Transhumanist Association (WTA) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organization to work toward the recognition of transhumanism as a legitimate subject of scientific inquiry and public policy. Currently, Humanity+ has several thousand members around the world and many national and international chapters, including those of Peru and Venezuela in Latin America. <\/p>\n
