Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving are providing stargazers with a rare opportunity to see the Moon and Mars make a close approach.<\/p>\n
(CNN) Thanksgiving Eve is providing stargazers a rare opportunity to see the moon and Mars make a close approach in the night sky.<\/p>\n
For most of us, you will see the moon in the East-Southeast sky.<\/p>\n
Then, situated about five degrees above and slightly to the moons left youll see Mars.<\/p>\n
While Mars is called the red planet, in the night sky it actually has more of a yellowish-orange tint.<\/p>\n
That color comes from the rusting iron-oxide that covers much of the martian surface.<\/p>\n
The rare alignment will repeat itself Thanksgiving night, but Mars orbit will take it gradually farther away from us after that.<\/p>\n
Youll have to wait until 2035 for Mars to be this close to earth again.<\/p>\n
