This is the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Human Genome Project (HGP) archive. Completed in 2003, the HGP was a 13-year project coordinated by the DOE and the National Institutes of Health to sequence the 3 billion basepairs that make up human DNA. <\/p>\n
This is the archive site of the DOE's Microbial Genome Program (MGP). The MGP was begun in 1994 as a spinoff from the HGP. The program sequenced the genomes of a number of nonpathogenic microbes useful in solving DOE's mission challenges in environmental-waste cleanup, energy production, carbon cycling, and biotechnology. <\/p>\n
