The Ashland High School robotics team placed 36th out of 67 teams in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Championships, held April 19-22 in Houston, Texas. <\/p>\n
Team 3024, also known as My Favorite Team, finished in 27th place in the robotics competition before it was required to replay a match it had previously won. The resulting tie dropped Team 3024 to 36th in Houston, where 15,000 students ages 6 to 18 converged for an event that was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Minute Maid Park and Discovery Green. <\/p>\n
My Favorite Team qualified for the FIRST Championships for the first time in program history by winning the Engineering Inspiration award at the Pacific Northwest District Championship for spreading STEM awareness within its local community. Also at districts, held April 6-8 in Cheney, Washington, AHS junior Claire Pryor was named a finalist for the Deans List award and the team won six of 11 matches. <\/p>\n
Besides the berth in the FIRST Championships, the Engineering Inspiration award also pocketed for Team 3024 the entire $5,000 entry fee, courtesy of NASA. <\/p>\n
