Lutcher claimed its 11th straight state title in dominant fashion by winning seven of the 11 weight classes in Division III to help open the Allstate Sugar Bowl\/LHSAA Powerlifting Championships on Friday. <\/p>\n
The girls didnt perform as well as we thought they could at the regional meet, Lutcher co-coach Kelly Magendie said. And to have them all come out perform this well today was amazing. We only missed less than 10 lifts for the entire meet.\" <\/p>\n
Ascension Catholic won its third consecutive girls title in Division V. The ACHS boys placed third. Slidells Pope John Paul II swept the titles in Division IV. <\/p>\n
It really couldnt have gone any better for the girls, ACHS coach Joe Ryan said. I think we were projected to score 67 points, and we scored 64. They came out and performed. And so did our boys. It is the first time the ACHS boys team placed in the top three since 1992. <\/p>\n
The two-day meet at Louisiana-Monroes Fant-Ewing Coliseum featured competition for the LHSAAs smaller schools competing in Divisions III, IV and V. The meet concludes Saturday with sessions for Divisions I and II. Girls compete at 9 a.m. with the boys competition set for 3 p.m. <\/p>\n
Shayanne Naquin (148 pounds) and Paige Bovina (165 pounds) swept the Outstanding Lifter honors for LHS. Lutcher had 59 points, while Port Allen was second with 28. <\/p>\n
Naquin finished 150 pounds ahead of the second-place competitor with a three-lift total of 920 pounds. Bovina had an 855-pound total. <\/p>\n
Lutchers other individual champions were Quamecca Stafford (105), Shay Naquin (132), Melanie Louque (198), Macy Lambert (220) and Jaydah Young (super heavyweight). <\/p>\n
The top individual honors and point totals were just as impressive for Ascension Catholic. The girls tallied 64 points to finish well ahead of Delhi with 37 points. <\/p>\n
Like Lutcher, the ACHS girls won seven weight classes and claimed the top two places in three weight classes. Delhi Charter won the Division V boys title with 44 points. Delhi was next with 31, just one point ahead of Ascension Catholic. <\/p>\n
ACHS Michalyn Daigle (123 pounds) and Elizabeth Latino (165 pounds) received the top girls lifter awards in Division V. Daigle had a 685-pound total. Latino total lift was 750 pounds. <\/p>\n
Hannah Settoon (105), Mallory Cavalier (114), Ceily Grisaffe (132), Camille Lemann (148) and Kenshell Davis (198) also were individual winners for ACHS. <\/p>\n
Nick Milano at 132 pounds and Robert Lemann at 198 were individual champions for the Ascension Catholic boys. Milano broke his own meet record with a bench press of 230 pounds. <\/p>\n
