There is good news for cruisers who are looking to visit new tropical cruise ports. The Tribune 242 is reporting that Carnival Cruise Line has come to an agreement with the Bahamian authorities to build a cruise port on Grand Bahama Island. The new cruise port will take two years to construct and while the exact location has not yet been revealed, it will be on the north shore 2 and 1\/2 miles west of Stat Oil.The location has been selected because of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). <\/p>\n
This $200 million cruise port has been in the works for almost two years. Cruise Fever first reported on Carnival being interested in opening a new cruise port near Freeport back in August 2015. <\/p>\n
It is no secret that Freeport is one of the least desirable cruise ports in the Bahamas and Caribbean. Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie said that this new port will significantly benefit the island. <\/p>\n
Carnival Cruise Line currently does not have their own private cruise port. However, parent company Carnival Corporation has built several in the Caribbean including Grand Turk, Mahogany Bay, and Amber Cove. Many Carnival ships visit these ports including the award winning Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
