TORONTO, Ont. DNA evidence from two decades ago from a sexual assault case involving a nine-year-old girl has led to an arrest being made. <\/p>\n
It is alleged that on Sunday February 3, 1991, a nine-year-old girl and her five-year-old sister were playing in the lobby of their apartment building in the Warden Avenue and Danforth Road area. <\/p>\n
It is believed that a man approached the two asking for help finding a place to eat when a short time later the man dropped the five-year-old child off at a store alone on Victoria Park Avenue. <\/p>\n
Then man proceeded to drive the nine-year-old child to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her before dropping her off at a restaurant on Danforth Road. <\/p>\n
The sexual assault was reported to police at the time and despite the investigative efforts, the was was unsolved. <\/p>\n
The forensic DNA evidence collected at the time of the incident led police investigators to identify the suspect as 45-year-old Shane Daniel Garry of Brampton. <\/p>\n
On Thursday, May 23, Garry was arrested in Brampton and charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of forcible confinement, sexual assault and sexual interference. <\/p>\n
Police say they believe there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers. <\/p>\n
