Maryland sports betting broke its own monthly record in November, and its not out of the realm of possibility that it could have another record-setting month in December. <\/p>\n
Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported a total sports betting handle of $550,716,329, its largest single-month total since December 2022. <\/p>\n
Online sports betting accounted for nearly 97% of the states total handle. <\/p>\n
Maryland sports betting broke its previous monthly high that was set last year. The states previous record was $497.1 million in December 2022. As football continues to march towards the playoffs, its a good bet that well see another record setting month in December 2023. <\/p>\n
This comes just one month after the state reported its most profitable month ever, as Maryland Lottery and Gaming noted the state took in $5,812,245 in sports betting tax revenue in October. <\/p>\n
ESPN BET also made its debut in the state this month, launching in full on Nov. 14. The operator totaled $33.3 million in online sports betting handle as it split the month as ESPN BET and Barstool Sportsbook. December will be ESPN BETs first full month of operation in the state. <\/p>\n
Marylands sports wagering market launched with five retail locations in December 2021. The first seven mobile sportsbooks launched in November 2022. As of the end of November 2023, there were 13 retail locations and 12 mobile operators. Additional retail sportsbooks and online sportsbooks are expected to launch in the near future, according to Maryland Lottery and Gaming. <\/p>\n

The Green Turtle in Townson became the 13th sportsbook location to open in Maryland in late September. The sportsbook location opened on Friday, Sept. 29 after the sportsbook completed controlled demonstrations on Sept. 25 and Sept. 27. Customers participated in live sports betting as Maryland Lottery and Gaming representatives ensure the sportsbook complied with all required procedures and that its systems functioned properly. <\/p>\n
No new locations opened in October. <\/p>\n
