CHILLICOTHE A new business is offering a way to treat depression using a non-invasive technique using magnets.<\/p>\n
A ribbon cutting was held at77 E. Water S Thursday afternoon forInsight TMS and Mental Health Care.<\/p>\n
Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a way to help prevent and treat mental andemotional disorders.These magnets target and stimulate nerve cells in underactive parts of the brain which can have a positive impact onthe brain's neurotransmitter levels.<\/p>\n
The goal of this type of treatment is to help people who have treatment-resistant depression where the normally prescribed medicines do not help. It is advertised as a nonpainful solution with minimal side effects.<\/p>\n
Dr. Tracy Coats,Director of Insight TMS and Mental HealthCare, has wanted to bring this technology to the area sincelearning about it in school. She sees this treatment as a gamechanger for the area and a way for people to no longer have to travel to bigger cities to get the treatment they need.<\/p>\n
\"It was a goal of mine to bring this to Chillicothe,\" saidCoats. \"We've seen some really amazing outcomes in our patients.\"<\/p>\n
Insight prides itselfin the factthat its magnetic therapy is a complete outpatient procedure that requires no anesthesia or bloodwork. The treatment involves a total of 36 sessions each of which is only 20 minutes long.<\/p>\n
Mike Throne,Chillicothe-Ross Chamber of Commerce director, thanked all who cameto the opening as well as the business themselves for bringing more support tothe community.<\/p>\n
