Last Monday, after traveling about a million miles, the James Webb Telescope reached its new home.<\/p>\n
NASAs telescope is now parked in a space called L2 a region between the gravitational fields of the Earth and sun where it could spend the next 10 or more years surveilling outer space.<\/p>\n
The Webb telescope, which was launched Dec. 25, is being controlled from the Space Telescope Institute in Baltimore.<\/p>\n
On Feb. 3, from 12:30 1:30 p.m., experts at Johns Hopkins University will host a live virtual discussion on developments in space exploration, including the Webb telescope, space weather, the Parker Solar Probe, and upcoming space missions.<\/p>\n
The discussion moderated by Chuck Bennett, professor and director at Space@Hopkins will include Hopkins professors Adam Riess and Sabine Stanley, as well as Jason Kalirai, mission area executive for civil space at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.<\/p>\n
The event is part of the universitys Congressional Briefing Series, which allows policymakers, staff, and members of the public to gain insights from Johns Hopkins experts.<\/p>\n
